Fast start by Storm dooms Kiel on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm boys basketball team remained undefeated, powered by a fast start, to take down Kiel 75-41 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Storm came out of the gate fast, jumping out to a 10-2 run that prompted a Kiel Raiders timeout.  The Raiders hit a three but Kewaunee began another run, this time a 13-0 advantage before Kiel got back in the scoring column. Kiel wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. Despite trailing by as much as 19, the Raiders clawed their way back into the game, and after a foul on Kiel’s Logan Brunner in the waning seconds on an attempted three pointer gave the Raiders three free throws and Kewaunee’s lead shrunk to 40-31 at halftime.

Kiel came out of the halftime break red hot and got off to a 10-3 advantage in the second, trimming the Storm lead to just 2 points at 43-41. Kewaunee coach Matt Bosdeck called a timeout and was able to rally the troops and relied on leading scorer Diesel Bosdeck to help create some separation.  Kewaunee was able to build their advantage back to double figures. The Raiders fought back with a last gasp in the final minutes but it was not enough as the Storm held on for the 75-61 win.

Kewaunee got a plethora of scoring in the win, as 4 players finished the game in double figures. Mason Kovacs led the way with 18 points, aided by Avery Jerabek’s 16 points, 15 from Connor Kilgore, and 11 from Diesel Bosdeck.  For Kiel, Logan Brunner scored 16 to lead the Raiders and he was joined in double figures by Trevin Heller.

Kewaunee will be back in action after a day off on Friday, when it hosts NEW Lutheran on Saturday afternoon. That game is slated for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
