Seymour got a goal in both halves to defeat Sturgeon Bay 2-0 on Thursday night.

“Seymour is a quality team and a D3 school," Desotelle said post-match.  "They outshot us 15 to 1, but our defense played one heck of a game, and our keeper, Izabella Jimenez Seyfer, had 18 saves, and some were pretty spectacular. This game was a good warm-up for next week's tournament match-up against New Holstein.”

Next up for the Clippers is Pius High School from Milwaukee on Friday night.

The Sturgeon Bay baseball team defeated Mishicot to finish the regular season 12-8 (6-2 in Packerland) with a 5-1 victory.

Five Sturgeon Bay pitchers combined to throw a three-hit effort, with Braylon LaRoche finishing it on the mound. Patrick Haese had two hits, and Prescott had two RBI for the Clippers.

The Clippers open Division 2 playoffs with a rematch at Marinette at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers golf team will have one golfer at the upcoming WIAA Golf Sectional.

Congratulations to Tre Wienke on advancing to the sectional round after shooting an 18-hole score of 81, which was tied for sixth place overall. The team took 10th in the regional with a score of 380.

"As a team we came up a little short but it doesn’t take away from the fantastic season we had," head coach Eric Tauschek said post-round. "It was fun seeing the seniors play their last round of high school golf! You will be missed Owen and Luke!"

Wienke will compete again next Tuesday at Crystal Springs Golf Course with a chance to go to state.

Clippers soccer edges Jets

Sturgeon Bay made it three wins in a row with a 1-0 win at Roncalli on Tuesday night. Yarrow Goettelman scored on a direct kick in the second half to put the Clippers up  1-0, which turned out to be the final score.

In goal, Isabella Jimenez-Seyfer had six saves for the Clippers. The Clippers continue to ramp up for the postseason this Thursday when they welcome Seymour.

Clippers baseball outlast Pioneers

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team avoided a catastrophe late to beat local rival Sevastopol on the road Friday evening 12-10.

The Clippers got out to a fast start, scoring the game's first eight runs in the opening three runs. Braylon LaRoche, Caleb Plzak, and Bryce Plzak all doubled in runs during the stretch. The Pioneers chipped away from there with a run in the third and three more in the fourth. Logan Schuh delivered the biggest blow in the rally with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The Clippers added on four important insurance runs because the Pioneers had one last big rally in them. The Pioneers had already cut the lead in half before Schuh narrowed the lead to two with a two-out home run. The Pioneers had the bases loaded again before Jack Haen was induced into a game-ending line out.

Siggy Hansen, Rylan Ruenger,  and LaRoche all had two hits in the game, but accounted for just one of the RBI. That work was done by the top of the lineup where the Plzak brothers and Ethan Kratcha accounted for just two combined hits but seven RBI. The loss spoiled a banner night for Schuh, who went 3-4 with six RBI. Bo Tanck and Hatcher Reetz each had two hits in the loss for the Pioneers. Brce Plzak ( 3.1 IP, 7H, 4R, 4ER 2 SO) earned the win while Tanck (1 IP, 2H, 4R, 3ER 1 SO) took the loss.

Clippers soccer double up Bulldogs

Sturgeon Bay got a huge conference win on the road to close its conference play at 3-2-1. Peshtigo’s Audra Bauman scored in the 32nd minute to put the Bulldogs up 1-0, which was the score at halftime. In the second half, Sturgeon Bay’s Malaya Martinez's 20-yard smash in the 68th minute tied the game at 1-1. With the game on the line, both teams mounted attacks and pushed for a game-winning goal, but it would be Malaya Martinez’s goal in the final minute that would give Sturgeon Bay the victory, 2-1.

“The coaches have our Sectional Seeding meeting tomorrow, and a win for either team will make a big difference in our seed. I’m super proud we found a way to win this one. Our players showed a lot of determination on the pitch tonight. Peshtigo is a hard team to beat on their pitch. Malaya’s goal in the final minute was electrifying and reminds us all …. We have to play for 80 minutes … games can be won or lost in that final minute.”

With the win, Sturgeon Bay is 7-10-2.  Next up for the Clippers is Roncalli in Manitowoc next Tuesday.

Clippers soccer top Resorters

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team headed south on Monday and picked up a 2-1 win over Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah.

Shambo Wienke scored in the 7th minute to put the Clippers up 1-0. After the score, Elkhart Lake’s defense tightened up and kept it close. In the second half, Elkhart gathered a corner kick ball that deflected to tie the score at 1-1.

“It was one of those corner kicks that bounces off 4 or 5 players and finds a crazy way into the goal. It’s very difficult for a keeper to track down,” Desotelle said postgame.

Elkhart Lake was creating some chances early in the second half, so the Clippers had to retake the momentum. The momentum did switch when Yarrow Goettelman scored on a direct kick from 30 yards out.

“Yarrow’s back post bomb was a game changer," Desotelle remarked. "The keeper had no chance to defend that ball.”

The Clippers dominated possession late in the game to seal the win. Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had 4 saves in the win.

Up next for the Clippers is a conference showdown at Peshtigo on Thursday.

Clippers take one of three in Kiel

Sturgeon Bay played up divisions during Saturday's tournament at Kiel, losing to D1 Manitowoc Lutheran (0-5) and D2 Kaukauna (0-3), before beating D3 Shawano (4-2) in a shootout to take sixth place.

“The Kiel Tournament is a well organized event and offers competition we don’t typically see and its always very challenging. Our defense played well again in this tournament and it is an excellent tuneup for our post season. We travel to Elkhart Lake on Monday and we are playing well right now. It should be a good match up down there.”  Keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer stopped 3 PK shots to seal the win against Shawano.

Clippers soccer burned by Blazers

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team could not find the back of the net Thursday night in a 2-0 loss to NEW Lutheran.

“We lost on a PK and a direct kick in the second half so despite loosing, our defense had a pretty solid game,” Desotelle said postgame.

Both teams had four shots on goal, but a couple of whistles made the difference.

“We had a couple of decent opportunities to score in the first half, but it was NEW’s night.  They made the most of their chances to score," Desotelle added.

In goal, Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had eight saves.

Next up for the Clippers is a tournament at Kiel on Saturday.

Scoring two each for the Clippers were Miya Nell and Malaya Martinez. The other goals were scored by Hayden Luders and Mady Schultz.  Valders' lone goal came late in the first half.

“Our defense is a little banged up right now and we are developing some younger players who are improving with each game.  Tonight our offense was able to possess the ball and build some quality attacks.  This was a solid team victory," Desotelle said postmatch.“

In goal, Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had the 4 saves.

Next up for the Clippers is NEW Lutheran on Thursday.

Clippers catch 'Cats on softball diamond

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team scored four runs in the fifth and seventh innings to beat Green Bay West 9-8 at Colburn Park in Green Bay on Monday.

The Clippers were down 2-0 when Annika Schoeneman scored the team's first run in the third inning. The Wildcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and once more in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead. Bristol Will's triple sparked the first four-run rally, clearing the bases to make it 6-4 before she came around to score. The Wildcats showed no quit either, answering the Clippers' rally with two more of their own to make it 8-5. The Clippers' second rally saw the team bat around, leading off with an Auna Anderson home run and concluding with Schoeneman driving in the go-ahead run.

Clippers Host Eagles for Rematch on U102.1

The Clippers host the Eagles on Monday night in Sturgeon Bay on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

This is the second matchup between these team in less than two weeks.  The matchup in Brussels on May 2nd saw scoring early and late as after the first inning the Eagles held a 1-2 lead.  That score would hold until the 6th when the Clippers sent 9 batters to the plate to take a 5-2 lead.  The Clippers would add another run in the 7th and claim the 7-2 victory.

The Eagles are coming off a 4-3 loss on Saturday to Luxemburg-Caso in which their comeback fell short, having both the tying and go-ahead run on in the top of the final inning. That loss extended their losing streak to 7 games.

Sturgeon Bay is coming off a Saturday double header in Chilton, in which they rallied from behind in game two to earn the split.

Jacob Nate will have you covered with the Pregame show at 4:50, followed by the first pitch at 5:00 pm.

Clippers baseball splits in Chilton

The Sturgeon Bay baseball team bounced back from a 9-4 loss to Howards Grove with a 8-6 win over Chilton on Saturday.

In game one, the Clippers and Tigers traded one run for two, leaving Sturgeon Bay trailing 4-2. The Tigers would pile on in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. The Clippers chipped away in the sixth inning thanks to bases-loaded walks drawn by Jack Higginbotham and Braylon LaRoche. Bryce Plzak, Steven Prescott, and Siggy Hansen tallied the only hits the game for the Clippers, though it was Higginbotham that led the team in RBI with two.

In game two, Chilton jumped out to a 6-2 lead only to watch the Clippers score one run in fifth and five more in the sixth to lose the game. During the Clippers' sixth inning rally, the team took advantage of three Tigers errors and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Bryce Plzak dealt the biggest blow, following two of the Tigers' errors with a two-run single. Plzak went 3-4 with three RBI in the game. Ryan Ruenger also had a three-hit game while matching Prescott with two RBI. Ruenger earned the win in relief after Plzak pitched the first 5 2/3 innings.

Clippers softball swamped by Bulldogs

A 12-run second inning made for a short night for the Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team as they lost 15-0 in three innings Friday.

Auna Anderson's double in the second inning and Sophia Sternard's single in the third were the lone offensive highlights for the Clippers. The Bulldogs clubbed two doubles and two triples off of Annika Schoeneman and Bristol Will. The latter took the loss, allowing 13 runs (6 ER) on 10 hits.

Clippers baseball bully Bulldogs

The Sturgeon Bay baseball team carried its winning ways to Peshtigo, where it beat the Bulldogs 13-8 in Packerland play, improving to 8-6 (5-1 in Packerland).

Leading 1-0, the Clippers put five up on the Bulldogs in the third, collecting four base hits with a two-run single by Bryce Plzak, the inning's most significant blow. The Clippers saw their 6-0 lead vanish as they took an 8-6 lead into the sixth inning. That's when the Clippers scored another five runs, piecing together a rally capped off by Braylon LaRoche scoring on a passed ball.

Siggy Hansen won on the mound, going 5 1/3, giving up six earned runs. Patrick Haese hit a home run in the fifth inning while Plzak, Hansen, Steven Prescott, and Rylan Ruenger registered two RBI apiece.

Kratcha Ks Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

Sturgeon Bay's Ethan Kratcha struck out 12 and did not need much more than that in a 7-0 win over Gibraltar/Washington Island on Tuesday evening.

A matchup between two of the top pitchers in the Packerland Conference. The Clippers were able to touch up the Vikings' Aaron Brey in the second inning as they batted around. Ryan Ruenger's single, Patrick Haese's double, and Caleb Plzak's bases-loaded walk helped the Clippers build a 3-0 lead. The Clippers added two more runs in the fourth thanks to back-to-back hits from the Plzaks.

The fourth inning marked the Vikings' biggest threat as Owen Dannhausen and Cam Munao registered back-to-back singles. Kratcha, however, was able to bear down and retire Jaxin Lindgren via a strikeout and force Luke Rericha into a groundout to leave Dannhausen and Munao stranded at second and third. The Clippers capped off their scoring in the sixth inning thanks to a RBI single from Caleb Plzak and an error charged to Dannhausen.

Kratcha allowed three hits and one walk across seven innings to go along with his 12 strikeouts. Caleb Plzak went 3-3 with three RBI while Haese went 2-3 with one RBI. Dannhausen led the Vikings with two hits. Brey took the loss on the mound for the Vikings, allowing five runs (5 ER) on seven hits across 3 2/3 innings. Bennett Issacson-Krueger finished the game off for Brey, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits. Both pitchers struck out four Clippers in the loss.

The Clippers return to action Friday to play at Peshtigo before a pair of games Saturday against Howards Grove and Peshtigo. The Vikings look to rebound from their first loss of the season with a home game against Kewaunee on Friday and two games in Crivitz on Saturday. All three of those games will be carried live on 105.1 The GOAT.

Clippers baseball sunk by Marines, host Vikings Tuesday on 105.1 The GOAT

Quick memories will be needed for the Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball as they prepare to host Gibraltar/Washington Island after losing to Marinette on Monday 10-3.

An RBI single from Ethan Kratcha gave the Clippers an early 1-0 lead, but the Clippers gave up three runs in the third and seven more in the fifth to doom them to their fate. Wyatt Strauss proved to be a thorn in the Clippers' side as he went 2-4 with four RBI including a home run that drove in three. The Clippers scored twice in the sixth inning thanks to a Bryce Plzak single and a bases-loaded walk. Siggy Hansen, the Plzaks, and Kratcha were the only Clippers to register hits in the loss.

The Clippers welcome a Vikings squad that is 11-0 on the season. In Friday's win over Peshtigo, Brady Kita, Aaron Brey, and Owen Dannhausen had two hits apiece in the game, with Kita and Brey boasting multi-RBI games. Not lost on Brey was the impact of the defense behind him while on the mound, pointing Bennett Isaacson-Krueger's defense at short and a couple of highlight reel grabs from Cam Munao.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Clippers soccer clobber Wildcats

Clippers soccer weather rain, Bulldogs

Tied 0-0 at halftime, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team scored three in the final half of the game to win 3-0 and stay undefeated in the race for a conference title.

“Our defense has been very solid all season. Izzy (10 saves) has not yielded a goal in conference play, and Goetelmann and Anderson (CB) have been very durable all season," head coach Robert Desoltelle said after the game. "Shutting down Peshtigo’s Audra Bauman is no easy task.  She was the MVP last season for the Packerland Conference, and she is a handful. The rain and wet field made the keeper's job very difficult. So a clean sheet was no easy task against a quality team like Peshtigo.”

A very tight game turned on a blast from midfielder Miya Nell, who scored her first goal of the season.

“It was a tough ball for the Peshtigo keeper to handle due to the slick field.”  10 minutes later, Malaya Martinez made it 2-0 with a dagger past two defenders just inside the 18. “Malaya is so sneaky around the 18-yard line. She can score with either foot and is a nightmare for defenders “.

The Clippers' last score came from Hayden Luders.

“ Yarrow Goetelmann served an awesome direct kick deep into the goal box, and Hayden made an awesome one-touch strike to seal the deal”.

With the win, Sturgeon Bay is 2-0-1 in the conference race.

“ This was a total team victory. The game was up for grabs at halftime, and our players showed some toughness and determination to get this win. While we have some bad habits to correct, this win most definitely is a step in the right direction.  Our coaches Jenna Augustson, Shane Olson, and Shelly Stenzel have done the hard work needed to prepare our players. Good work all around to prepare for this match“.

Next up for the Clippers are the Green Bay West Wildcats at Sturgeon Bay's Clark Field on Monday.

Clippers soccer get back to work against Peshtigo

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team returns to work at home when they welcome Peshtigo to a Packerland Conference match.

The Clippers saw its streak of positive results come to an end on Monday, losing to Pulaski 5-0 on the road. Estella Vieaux registered a brace while Anya Hasser, Elizabeth Dornfeld, and Alina Harnowski also scored goals for the Raiders. In goal, Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had 15 saves. “It was an extremely windy and long game for our players," Clippers soccer coach Robert Desotelle said post-match. "Pulaski was quick and physical and we struggled to win and possess the ball.  Playing quality competition isn’t always easy, but we learn a great deal about the speed of play and physicality in these types of matches. Better days are ahead.”

The Bulldogs enter the match 3-2-0, including a 2-1 win over Kingsford (MI) on Tuesday.

Thursday's match against the Bulldogs begins at 6 p.m. at Clark Field.
