Sturgeon Bay will be off until Saturday when they take on Wrightstown in a road contest. Kewaunee will just have Wednesday to regroup, as they visit Roncali on Thursday.

Soccer: Clippers, Storm looking to gain momentum

Sturgeon Bay will be looking to stack consecutive wins in girls soccer on Tuesday when they face a Kewaunee team who they are neck and neck with in the standings. Sturgeon Bay, coming off a win against Sevastopol-Gibraltar, is in fifth place in the Packerland-Eastern Conference. Kewaunee is one spot below the Clippers, and is coming off a Thursday loss against Sheboygan Falls. First touch for Tuesday’s game between Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee is at 4:30 PM.

Sturgeon Bay top local team in golf meet

Sturgeon Bay was just a hair better than county rival Southern Door in Packerland Conference action at The Orchards Golf Course in Egg Harbor Monday.

Led by Kyle Bilski's 47, the Clippers edged the Eagles 203-206. The Eagles had the better golfer between the schools with Jacob Norton shooting a 45. Both teams were far behind Peshtigo's 160and Oconto's 185 on the par 36 course.

Gibraltar: Teddy Roth 47, Peyton Thomas 55.

Sevastopol: Henry Bley 69.

Southern Door: Jacob Norton 45, Luke Olson 52, Jacob Pierre 53, Nic Pierre 56.

Sturgeon Bay: Kyle Bilski 47, Isaak Aune 51, Spencer Hubbard 52, Elijah Bailey 53.

Clippers alum scores in Voyageurs opener

On an otherwise down night for the Green Bay Voyageurs, one player gave Sturgeon Bay soccer fans a reason to celebrate.

With the Voyageurs down 5-0 to the Des Moines Menace in the final minutes of the game, former Clippers player Jaden Stevenson scored a goal in the 88th minute to make sure they did not get shutout. It was a familiar scene for Stevenson, who played his college ball at Drake University in Des Moines. In his first season with the Bulldogs and his third overall in collegiate soccer, Stevenson scored one goal in a 4-0 win over Evansville. He played in six total games this spring.

Clippers separate in sixth inning

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers needed just the first and sixth inning to cruise by Manitowoc Lutheran on Saturday. The Clippers won 10-1, having scored four runs in the first inning and the other six in the sixth inning. The Clippers will head across county lines to play Kewaunee on Tuesday.

Baseball: Shorthanded Clippers can't overcome late surge

With three starters out of Friday’s game, Sturgeon Bay lost the fourth starter in the 1st inning when Andrew Carbajal was hit by a pitch and would exit the game. The Clippers looked ready to overcome injuries, taking a 3-1 lead in the top of the 5th inning, scoring two runs on 4 hits. The decisive bottom of the 5th saw Peshtigo score 6 runs on a hit batter, walk, and 5 singles. Sturgeon Bay outhit Peshtigo 8-7 and were led by Hunter Moore, who went 3-3, and Anthony Jennerjohn who was 2-4 at the plate. Jennerjohn took the mound loss with relief from Chris Lodl in the 6th inning.

The Clippers dropped to 7-6 on the season and will host Manitowoc Lutheran in a Saturday non-conference game starting at 11:00 AM.

Lady Clippers topple Vikineers on the pitch

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers girls' soccer team was able to double up their neighbors to the north, defeating Gibraltar/Sevastopol 4-2.

Scoring for Sturgeon Bay were Senior Miranda Olson, Junior Josephine Rangel and Freshmen Alexis Olson and Libby Scheer. Goalkeeper Drew Star had 4 saves in goal for the Clippers.  Scoring for Sevastopol were Senior Sam Herrel and Freshman Colleen Carlisle.

Softball: Clippers bats struggle against Peshtigo

Sturgeon Bay was unable to generate offense in Thursday’s 15-0 loss to Peshtigo. The Clippers would fall to 1-5 on the season with the loss. For Peshtigo, they remain undefeated at 7-0. The Clippers will have a chance to get back on track Saturday with a non conference game, hosting Manitowoc Lutheran. First pitch is at 11 AM.

Sturgeon Bay track teams hold strong in Oconto

Both track teams of Sturgeon Bay finished in the middle of Tuesday's Oconto quad meet.

The Clippers boys scored 68 points for a second place finish behind Kewaunee. Event winners included Storm Adams in the long jump and 4x200M relay.

The Clippers girls meanwhile took third behind Sevastopol and Kewaunee, scoring 81 points. Event winners included Julia Kurek in the 3200M, Lauren Alger in the 100M Hurdles, and Cate Anderson in the 300M hurdles.

Clippers soccer advances on 96.7 WBDK

A tradition since 2009 continued Thursday night as the Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team closed out another regional title with a 3-0 victory over Gibraltar/Sevastopol.

Both teams had not played since they battled each other on April 26th, so the two sides took the first 10 minutes to shake off the rust. The Clippers would strike first as Robert Alas chipped the ball over the Vikineers keeper to make it 1-0 in the 17th minute. Alas would strike again when he took a cross through the box and tapped in the one-timer in the 31st minute.

It would remain that way until the 74th minute. The Vikineers made a few nice surges in the second half, pressuring goalkeeper Jonathan Wind to make a few acrobatic saves. A handball by Trey Maas set up a penalty kick for the Vikineers, only to have Connor Thompson strike it just wide to keep the score at 2-0. The Vikineers would return the favor with a handball in the box, but Benjamin Luders would drive it home for the final tally of the game.

The game had its fair share of yellow cards with two going against Gibraltar/Sevastopol and one against a coach for Sturgeon Bay. Alas drew a red card in the final seconds of the match for a hard play against the Vikineers' Antonio Curiel. He will not be allowed to play in Saturday's match against Notre Dame, which beat Ashwaubenon 5-0 in their regional final matchup in Green Bay.

NEW Radio Sports Network will cover Saturday's sectional semifinal matchup between Sturgeon Bay and Notre Dame at 2 p.m. If the Clippers win, the sectional final against Winnebago Lutheran and North Fond du Lac Co-op will also be broadcast. Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the call on 96.7 WBDK and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Baseball: Clippers looking to remain hot against Wolves

With just one loss on their record so far this season, the 3-1 Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team will host Algoma on Thursday. Algoma is still looking for their first win, starting winless in their first seven games. The teams do not have any common opponents in the season’s early going. Thursday’s game with the Wolves and Clippers will start at 4:30 PM.
