The Sturgeon Bay girls' volleyball team goes back to work on Tuesday with a triangular at Seymour.

 

The Clippers won two of their seven matches at last weekend's Beast of the Northeast Tournament in Appleton. It went winless in its Friday matches, falling to Freedom 2-1, West De Pere 2-0, and Kewaskum 2-0. They rebounded on Saturday, winning matches against Kaukauna 2-1 and Waupaca 2-0 while losing to West Salem 2-1 and Aquinas 2-0. The weekend places them at 5-6 for the season.

 

Audrey Harrington led the offense with 40 kills, followed by Izzy Schoeneman with 31 kills and Reen Walker with 26 kills. Prudence Goettleman added 10 kills, giving us several different offensive options throughout the weekend.

 

At the service line, Reen led the team with eight aces, while Izzy added five. Audrey, Prudence and Makenna Coyhis each contributed three aces.

 

Makenna Coyhis finished the tournament with 91 assists, doing a great job running our offense, while Prudence added another 13 assists.

 

"This is still a group that is learning how to play together, and tournaments like this are exactly what we need early in the season," head coach Mary Harrington said." "Playing so many matches in a short period of time forces the girls to adjust, compete when they’re tired and figure out how to respond when things aren’t going our way."

 

"There were definitely moments we would like back, but there were also a lot of really good moments throughout the weekend," Harrington added. "The girls competed, supported each other and continued to improve. We came away knowing more about ourselves as a team and with a much clearer idea of what we need to focus on moving forward."

 

The Clippers are set to play Seymour at 5 p.m. and Little Chute at 6 p.m. before battling Oconto on Thursday in their first Packerland Conference match of the season.

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team will keep the momentum going on Monday with a road match at Kewaunee.

 

The Clippers completed their Prairie School residency on Saturday with a 3-2 win against Kenosha Tremper. Kemal Wienke scored on a free kick to give the Clippers a 1-0 lead before they scored again on a great combination out wide that set up Finn Stevenson to put it in the back of the net.

 

 

A late goal in the first half and a slow start in the second half left the game tied before Stevenson played a ball in behind to Joni Ismaili to score the game-winner. Head coach Jesus Mejia Jr. praised his team for warding off wave after wave of attack from a tough Kenosha Tremper side to secure the road victory.

 

The Storm are coming off a 16-0 road loss to Providence last Thursday.

 

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Kewaunee.

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team brought their winning ways south for the weekend as they opened their Prairie School quad weekend with a 2-0 win over their hosts.

 

 Ashton Benzinger opened the scoring on what head coach Jesus Mejia Jr called an "unreal" free kick from 20 yards out to put the Clippers ahead in the first half. The Clippers doubled their lead in the second half Jaxzen Bleck buried a pass from Daniel Wienke for the second goal.

 

The Clippers are back in action at The Prairie School on Saturday.

 

 

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers have a tally in the win column for the first time under the leadership of Coach Matt Landers after beating the Clintonville Truckers 24-6 in the home opener, which was Parents' Night for Sturgeon Bay.  

 

In the second game of the season, the Clippers once again started with big plays.  Clintonville elected to receive, but after a short return that set the Truckers up near midfield, turned the ball over to Sturgeon Bay after the combination of Landon Evers and Alex Boden nearly beat the ball to the Trucker Quarterback Parker Soldner.  On the very first offensive play for the Clippers, Shaun Estrada took one cut and carried the ball 43 yards into the end zone, putting the Clippers up 6-0.

 

The next drive for the Truckers ended the same way as the first, with a high snap hitting the ground and setting the Clippers up with great field position.  The offensive drive was slightly different, though.  Trygg Stuth would lead the Clippers down the field and fight their way through a couple of 4th and long situations, including a fourth and goal from the 9-yard line in which Stuth found Estrada for the second Clipper touchdown of the game.  The Truckers would answer to cap the first quarter, sending the game into the second with the Clippers leading 12-6.

 

Thanks to a handful of turnovers for each team in what mistake-filled game, the sole score of the second quarter came on a rollout pass from Stuth to find Vince Laughlin in endzone putting the Clippers up 18-6 at the halftime break.

 

After a quiet 3rd quarter, the sole score of the second half came in another fourth and long situation.  On 4th and 21 from the Clintonville 39-yard line, Alex Boden would get behind the entire defense of the Truckers, capping off the scoring and bringing the Clippers back to an even 1-1 record, and the very first win of Head Coach Matt Landers' tenure.  

 

 

After missing a game due to a WIAA-enforced penalty from week 1, Rayshaune Johnson and the Clippers will be back in action next Friday, September 4th, as they travel to take on the Peshtigo Bulldogs.  You can tune in as Jacob Nate will be there taking you through the action beginning with the 6:45 pregame show and 7 PM kickoff on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

The Sturgeon Bay girls golf team could not get around a blockade of golfers from Seymour and Shawano at the Bay North Conference Mini-Meet #4 held on Thursday at Vernon Hills GC in Peshtigo.

 

The Clippers shot a 232, 29 strokes behind Shawano and more than 60 strokes behind Seymour, which won the meet with a score of 167. Seymour and Shawano made up eight of the top ten spots, which was rounded out by the Clippers' Kennedy Hoernke, who shot a score of 51.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team got their weekend off on the right foot on Thursday with a 2-1 win over local rival Gibraltar/Sevastopol.

 

The win marked the first of the Coach Mejia era as he replaces Todd Maas, who retired from the role following the team's state runner-up finish a year ago.

 

 

The Clippers will now turn their attention to a weekend that will feature the likes of 1-0 University School of Milwaukee and 1-1 Kenosha Tremper. The matches will take place at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Sturgeon Bay ran in their first cross country meet of the season on Thursday and it didn't disappoint. The boys and girls varsity teams placed 3rd tonight at the meet with three of the girls placing in the top 20. Delaney Skiba took 2nd place while Megan Selle finished in 10th and Scarlet Tomberlin coming in 20th place. Freshman Elliott Brown led the way for the boys, running a time of 20:27 to finish in 22nd.

 

"The team is off to a great start and we look forward to seeing what goals we can achieve this season," said head cross country coach Morgan Kiedrowski.

Football is back in Sturgeon Bay as the Clippers host their first home game of the 2026 season Thursday night, welcoming the Clintonville Truckers on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

 

The Clippers and Truckers enter the game with identical 0-1 records, with both teams hoping to forget opening week losses.  The Clippers season had started with a spark when Rayshaune Johnson took the game's opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, but that was all the wind Sturgeon Bay had in their sails as it was Brillion in the eventual 41-6 loss.

 

Clintonville is looking for their first score of the season as they were shut out in week 1, falling to Amherst 56-0.  Sturgeon Bay hopes to be able to take advantage of sophomore quarterback Parker Soldner who ran for just 37 yards as the Truckers leading rusher.

Door County's two soccer teams begin the Packerland Conference schedule against each other on Thursday when Sturgeon Bay welcomes Gibraltar/Sevastopol.

 

The Clippers are coming off a run to the state final that ended with double overtime 1-0 loss to Oostburg. The Clippers sent off retiring coach Todd Maas on the highest note it could, going 21-4-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the Packerland Conference.

 

The United finished behind the Clippers in the Packerland with an 8-3-1 mark, finishing with an overall record of 12-7-3. They saw their season come to end with a pair of overtime games, beating Roncalli 3-2 before losing to Kiel 2-0.

 

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Sturgeon Bay varsity volleyball team opened its 2026 season with a strong performance Tuesday at the JustAgame Season Opener in Wisconsin Dells, finishing 3–1 overall and taking second place in the Gold Division.

 

The Clippers started the day with a straight-set victory over Weyauwega-Fremont, 25–21, 25–20. Sturgeon Bay followed with another convincing performance in pool play, defeating Madison West, 25–17, 25–14, to finish pool competition undefeated and advance to the Gold Division playoffs.

 

In the Gold semifinal, Sturgeon Bay faced its first three-set battle of the season against Wonewoc-Center. The Clippers took the opening set 25–21 before Wonewoc-Center responded with a 25–18 win in the second. Sturgeon Bay came through when it mattered in the deciding set, earning a hard-fought 15–13 victory to advance to the Gold championship.

 

The Clippers met Marathon in the championship and again came out strong, winning the opening set 25–20. Marathon responded by taking the second set 25–17 before winning the deciding set 15–9. The loss was Sturgeon Bay’s only defeat of the day and gave the Clippers a second-place finish in the Gold Division.

 

Sturgeon Bay finished the tournament 3–1 overall and 7–3 in sets, with contributions coming from throughout the lineup.

 

Audrey Harrington led the offense with 22 kills. Reen Walker and Izzy Schoeneman each added approximately 14 kills, giving Sturgeon Bay multiple attacking options throughout the day. Setter Makenna Coyhis directed the offense with an estimated 51 assists.

 

The season-opening tournament provided an encouraging first test for a Sturgeon Bay roster featuring six returning players with previous varsity experience along with a strong group of freshmen. The Clippers showed their ability to win in different ways, sweeping both pool-play opponents before responding under pressure in a three-set Gold semifinal.

 

Sturgeon Bay leaves Wisconsin Dells with a 3–1 record, a Gold Division runner-up finish and a strong start to the 2026 season.

The Door County United swim team hits their home pool on Tuesday when they welcome five teams to the Door County YMCA.

 

DCU is coming off its first meet of the year on Saturday in Marinette. For the freshmen, Ashlyn Sixel (SDHS) finished sixth overall, while Brennan Rass (SEV) finished seventh. Sophomore Hazel Monfils (SDHS) had a spectacular meet, finishing first overall and taking first place in each individual event. Her fellow sophomore, Jillian Peterson (SDHS), finished ninth overall. For the juniors, Quinn Sperber (SDHS) finished third, while Mia Olson (SBHS) finished 11th. Finally, representing the seniors, Shaeffer Rass (SEV) finished second, Rachel Rock (SEV) finished 12th and Hannah Denil (SBHS) finished 14th.

 

Clintonville, Seymour, Marinette, New London, Shawano/Bonduel, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood will compete at the meet, which begins at 5 p.m.

 

The opponents on Tuesday will look eerily familiar as the Sturgeon Bay girls golf team play their second Bay Conference meet in as many days on Tuesday.

 

On Monday, Maggie Humpher shot a 56 to lead the Sturgeon Bay girls golf team to an overall score of 245 to take fourth place in Tuesday’s Bay Conference meet at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour. Hayden Montevideo also broke 60 strokes on the course, coming in tied for 14th place with a score of 59.

The Clippers shot a 261 Tuesday as they opened their Bay Conference schedule at Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay. Kennedy Hoernke shot a team-best 61 to take 12th in the meet. Madelyn Schulz (65), Maggie Huempfner (66), Hayden Montevideo (68) and Talia Schmidt (68) finished just a few shots behind their teammate.

 

Bonduel, Oconto, Shawano and Seymour will also compete in the meet, which tees off at 9 a.m.

The Door County United swim team opens its 2026 campaign on the road Saturday morning when they travel to Marinette.

 

DCU had some notable departures from last year's team, but Shaeffer Rass and Hazel Monfils from last year's state qualifying 400m relay team could be among the returners. Quinn Sperber also threatened for a spot at the state meet for a DCU squad that placed fifth out of 14 teams with 175 points in the WIAA sectional meet at Ashwaubenon.

 

Clintonville, New London, Seymour, Shawano/Bonduel, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood are also making the trip to Marinette for the meet that begins at 9 a.m.

Sturgeon Bay's season started with a boom but the Clippers were unable to keep pace with Brillion, losing 41-6 in the season opener, as heard on U102.1. 

 

Rayshaune Johnson took the game's opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, giving the Clippers an early 6-0 lead over the Lions.  Sturgeon Bay was unable to convert on the ensuing two point conversion attempt. From there though it was all Brillion. Weston Schmidt scored on the Lions first possession, and made the PAT kick.  Jaxon Lisowe scored on the Brillion's next time down, his first of 3 touchdowns in the game.  The play saw Rayshaune Johnson ejected from the game due to a high hit at the goal line, a controversial decision on a bang-bang play. Kyen Meyer scored on a quarterback keeper the next time the Lions had the ball, giving Brillion a 21-6 lead. The teams exchanged interceptions to end the first half.  

 

On the opening kickoff of the 2nd half, Jensen Kupsky returned the kick for a score, taking the return 85 yards to keep the gas pedal to the floor for Brillion.  Lisowe scored his 2nd and 3rd touchdowns of the evening to conclude the scoring.  Schmidt remained perfect on PAT kicks until the final attempt, missing the kick low.   The last half of the 4th quarter was played with running clock, but gave the Clippers plenty to build on.  

 

Sturgeon Bay will be back in action next Thursday, hosting Clintonville, which will be broadcasted on U-102.1 with Jacob Nate on the call.  

A new season kicks off on Thursday night for Sturgeon Bay, as the Clippers travel to Brillion, and it'll be heard on U102.1. 

 

2025 was tough for Sturgeon Bay, as the Clippers went 0-9 last fall. The team was young, with just 4 seniors on last year's squad.  Returning to the squad though, quarterback Trygg Stuth, their top two rushers in Shaun Estrada and Drew Propsom, and leading receiver Alex Estrada. Propsom also was the team's leading tackler. 

 

Brillion went 8-3 last year, including a 46-0 win over Sturgeon Bay in last year's opener.  Unlike the Clippers though, the Lions lost their statistical leader in each category, returning only 3 offensive starters and 2 on defense.  

 

Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson will have the call from Brillion, and it can be heard on U102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com, with the pregame show at 6:45, and kickoff at 7:00pm.

The Sturgeon Bay girls golf team will play their first round of golf on its home course on Tuesday when they welcome Bonduel, Oconto, Shawano, and Seymour to Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay.

 

The Clippers competed in a scramble invitational at Irish Greens in Oconto last Thursday. With 12 two-person scramble teams participating, the Clippers shined with a 2nd and a 3rd place finish.
