Clippers girls begin Packerland play

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will take on the Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy Blazers at home for their Packerland conference opener Tuesday night.

Sturgeon Bay has had a solid start to their campaign so far this season, already picking up their first win of the season last time out against NEWCHAA. The Clippers have been led by the play of senior guard Autumn Rass, who is averaging 17.1 points per game in the first three outings. Three Clippers are over 10 points per game on average so far this season, so balanced scoring could be key for Sturgeon Bay against the Blazers.

The Blazers have also gotten off to a 1-2 start on their new season, with a win over Crivitz being the result of their last trip on the court. The Blazers have had a mix of scoring throughout their first three games, but are led in the scoring department on average by Ebony Sinclair with 11.7 points per game.

Tip is scheduled for 7:30 in Sturgeon Bay.

Clippers boys grind past Cougars

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers finished the M&O/Packerland Thanksgiving Challenge with a tough physical game against the Coleman Cougars. The Clippers got out to a great start, going on a run to go up 8 early on. The Cougars fought back to within 4 late in the first half but the Clippers were able to answer with a run of their own to be up by 11 at halftime. Coming out of the half the Cougars had a nice push to get within 5 before the Clippers settled back in and were able to keep the differential at 7 for the majority of the remainder of the second half. Finishing the game by hitting their free throws, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers won against the Coleman Cougars 55-47. Sturgeon Bay will be back in action Thursday, December 1st for an away game against Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran.

Sturgeon Bay boys can't catch Crivitz

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers boys' basketball team fell into a hole that only got deeper in their matchup against Crivitz on Friday.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 37-29 lead and nearly matched it in the second half as they beat the Clippers 73-53. Isaak Aune led the way for the Clippers with 13 points. Calvin Richard hit three three-pointers en route to an 11-point evening while Gannon Evers added 10 points.

The Wolverines matched the effort thanks to Jackson Flowers' 16 points and Cashton Mertens' 15 points.

The Clippers play again on Saturday when they battle Coleman.

Clippers take on Crivitz in Packerland/M&O Challenge

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will take part in the Packerland/M&O Challenge this weekend, as they will take on Crivitz.

Sturgeon Bay fell short in their opener to the Chilton Tigers by a score of 61-49. The Clippers allowed the Tigers to shoot 41.7% from the three point line, which was enough for Chilton to take home the win. Sturgeon Bay was led by Isaak Aune, who was able to lead the team throughout the loss, alongside of guard Garrett Ulberg.

The Crivitz Wolves will open their season up against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers, but are coming off of a very successful season last year. The Wolves were 18-7 overall last year, while being 15-1 in M&O conference play. Crivitz is bringing back 6’3” wing Sean Christiansen, who averaged 16.4 points per game last season. The Wolves will be a tough test for the Clippers Friday evening.

The Wolves and Clippers are set to tip at 5:00 P.M. in Crivitz.

Clippers girls capture first win vs. NEWCHAA

The Sturgeon Bay Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated NEWCHAA 62-55 on Tuesday night for their first win of the season. It was a fast-paced high scoring game that was close throughout. SBHS was again led in scoring by senior Autumn Rass with 22 points, sophomore Dasha Yeltysheva also scored 21, and Senior Mackenzie Burlo chipped in 7.

Jets fly past Clippers girls

The Varsity Sturgeon Bay Girls Basketball team lost to Roncalli 72-36 tonight. Early foul trouble and a rough shooting night, put the clippers in a tough hole to dig out of.  Sturgeon Bay was led in scoring by senior Autumn Rass with 15, senior Mackenzie Burlo with 8 and sophomore Dasha Yeltysheva with 6.

Owens debuts as coach in season opener against Chilton

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will open their season on the road, as they travel to Chilton to take on the Tigers Tuesday night.

The Clippers finished their season 6-18 last year and went 5-11 in conference play in the Packerland. Sturgeon Bay will have a new coach, as Rodney Owens will take over the position from the late Jim Benesh. Sturgeon Bay will return their leading scorer Isaak Aune, as Aune will look to shoot his way to leading the Clippers to some wins. Sturgeon Bay took a narrow loss to the Tigers of Chilton last season, losing 55-49.

Chilton was around the .500 mark last season, as they finished their season 13-12 overall, and 6-8 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. The Tigers season ended in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs, as they were beaten by Oostburg 65-50. Chilton does return their leading scorer from last season, as Max Mueller, who averaged 13.8 Points Per Game last season will return.

Tip is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.

Sturgeon Bay girls host an unfamiliar opponent Tuesday

After a loss to the Chilton Tigers Friday night, the Clippers Girls Basketball team will look to put a win in their column against Northeast Wisconsin Christian Home School.

Chilton was able to handle the Clippers in Sturgeon Bay’s opener, as the Clippers lost 57-38. Sturgeon Bay kept the score close the majority of the game, but the Tigers were able to go on a bit of a run at the end of the 2nd half to put the game away late. Chilton moved their record to 2-0 and looked to be a strong opponent and a good test for the Clippers in their opener.

Northeast Wisconsin Christian Home School is opening up their season with the Clippers on Tuesday night. The team is not in a conference, so will be playing teams during their non-conference scheduled games. They were 4-0 last season in their four recorded games, outscoring their opponents 195-62 in those results.

The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00 P.M.

Clippers girls head to Roncalli

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers girls' basketball team will head to Roncalli in hopes of securing the season's first win.

The Clippers kicked off their season with a Friday night home matchup vs Chilton. The game was back and forth for much of the contest, with Sturgeon Bay trailing 23-25 at halftime. Toward the end of the game, Chilton pulled away, and the Clippers lost 38-57. Sturgeon Bay was led in scoring by seniors Autumn Rass and Emma Reinhardt, with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Sophomore Cady Carlson also chipped in 6 points.

The Jets struggled in their opener, falling to Winnebago Lutheran 72-39. Alayna Schramm scored nine points and Lauren Stangel registered eight points in the Jets' loss.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Clippers host Chilton in Girls Basketball season opener

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will finally be able to get their Girls Basketball season underway, as they take on the Chilton Tigers.

Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door were the only two teams that had not gotten their seasons underway, but both teams will play their first games Friday night. The Clippers, coming off of a 2-22 season last year will look to change the tides and results from last season. That ultimately could start with new head coach Casey Harrington, who takes over the team as the head coach this season. Emma Reinhardt, Tori Alger, and Autumn Rass could be big time players for Sturgeon Bay with the departure of Sierra Arneman to graduation. A 1-0 start for the Clippers would swing some momentum their way.

Chilton already has a game under their belt this season, as they took down the Kohler Blue Bombers 72-60 Tuesday night. Going back to the 2021-2022 season, the Tigers were 14-12 and were eliminated in the second round by Kiel 58-41. Chilton leans on their strong 2025 class, as three of their top four scorers from last season were from that class, including Adahlyn Hoerl who averaged 12.3 points per game. These two teams matched up last season, and Chilton was able to win that one by a score of 71-43.

The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00.

New season means new opportunities for Clippers Boys Basketball

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers saw a challenging season come to a close last year with two back to back losses to the Kewaunee Storm. The Clippers will look to change that and turn it into a winning season in the 2022-2023 campaign.

Sturgeon Bay had a bit of a down season compared to their standards, with a 5-11 conference record, and an overall record of 6-18. Isaak Aune was the team's scoring leader last season, and will once again be the leader of the Clippers this season as a senior. Sturgeon Bay lost five seniors to graduation, and will be without Danny Lodl, who was a projected starter due to an ankle injury.

The Clippers will be looking for a big step from their forward play, including the play of Gannon Evers. Evers was the starting big man for the team last year, and as a junior will need to be one of the strengths of the team on both sides of the floor. Garrett Ulberg will also be a big name to watch if the Clippers start their season strong.

Sturgeon Bay opens their season on the road against the Chilton Tigers on November 22nd, and will begin Packerland play against Green Bay NEW Lutheran on the 1st of December.

DCU coach reflects on State Meet

DCU senior swimmer Christy Braun competed well at the WIAA Division I State Swim Meet on Saturday, November 12th, 2022. She qualified in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. She finished 17th overall in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.82. The time was a season-best for Christy. She finished 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.33. This was Christy’s third and final appearance at the WIAA State Swim Meet, and she left it all in the pool. Congrats, Christy, you will be missed next season!

Braun finishes season at state swim meet

The final athlete still standing from the fall season finished her run at the state swimming and diving meet this weekend.

Christy Braun of Sturgeon Bay High School and the Door County United swim team competed in two events at the Division 1 meet hosted at Waukesha South. Braun finished the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.82, which was good for 17th place overall and about a half-second faster than her seed time.

Braun also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she finished in 22nd place with a time of 1:08.33.

Clippers led by new head coach into Girls Basketball season

Clippers Girls Basketball was challenged at times last season, but has a lot to look forward to for this upcoming 2022-2023 season.

Sturgeon Bay returns some key contributors to the team last season, with Autumn Rass, Emma Reinhardt, and Tori Alger all being back on the team. Sturgeon Bay has also undergone a coaching change, as Casey Harrington has taken over the head coaching position, so the Clippers will undergo a little bit of change. Sturgeon Bay finished last year's season with a record of 2-22 overall, and 1-15 in the conference.

Also on the front of change, Sturgeon Bay lost one of their key contributors in Sierra Arneman to graduation this past year, so the Clippers will look to replace her minutes and impact on the court this season.

Sturgeon Bay opens up their new campaign this season at home, as they welcome in the Chilton Tigers on Friday November 18th. They begin Packerland conference play on November 29th against Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy.

DCU's Braun qualifies for state meet

The Door County United (DCU) Girls High school swim team put up a good fight over the weekend at the Division I sectionals meet held at Neenah High School. The team finished 5th overall out of 13 teams. DCU scored 231 total points beating the 6th place team, Oshkosh West, by 0.5 points. We had at least one swimmer podium in all but two events of the meet. These are listed below. Christy Braun (SBHS), Julia Michalski (SBHS), Cassie Rankin (SEV), and Regan Kasten (SBHS) were among the top scorers for the meet. Christy Braun (SBHS) qualified for Division I state in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:13.34 and the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.08. This was a successful end to a fantastic season for the team. They were undefeated in conference match-ups, won the conference title yet again, and finished in the top half of a Division I sectional. We are extremely proud of the way the girls competed and we cannot wait to see what next season has in store. Additionally, we are excited to see how Christy Braun will compete at the state meet on Saturday November 12th.
