Clippers soccer kicks off week against Pulaski

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team will start their week with a non-conference matchup on Monday against Pulaski.

The Clippers extended their point streak to four with a 3-0 win over Milwaukee Reagan on Friday. Midfielder Malaya Martinez had a “hat trick” in scoring all 3 of Sturgeon Bay’s goals, and Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had her 4th clean sheet in the win while recording eight saves.

Clippers baseball topple Bulldogs early

Sturgeon Bay defeated Peshtigo 10-0 in 5 innings in a nonconference game Saturday to improve to 4-5 overall. The Clippers piled it on the Bulldogs in the fourth inning when they scored seven in the bottom of the fourth to set the stage for the early dismissal. Braylon LaRoche and Bryce Plzak each laced doubles in the inning, combining to drive in three of the seven runs in the frame.  Siggy Hansen went three innings for the win, striking out two and giving up no runs. Plzak had two hits and 3 RBI, and LaRoche also had two hits.

Clippers soccer pick up Cream City win

The long ride was worth the effort as the Clippers won 3-0 in Milwaukee Friday night. Midfielder Malaya Martinez had a “hat trick” in scoring all 3 of Sturgeon Bay’s goals and Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had her 4th clean sheet in the win while recording 8 saves. “We had a little more offense tonight and we also improved both our possession time and passing. This was our 4th consecutive shutout out so defensively we are solid as we begin more conference play in the next two weeks.”  Next up for the Clippers, Pulaski at home Monday night. “Pulaski is always challenging game for us. They are a bigger school and a physically tough team. We’ll have definitely need to play at a very high level to stay with them on Monday”.

Clippers baseball lose late to Blue Devils

The Sturgeon Bay baseball team saw a lead slip away late on Tuesday, falling to Oconto 3-2.

Falling behind 1-0 early, a Caleb Plzak single in the fifth inning and a Rylan Ruenger double in the sixth accounted for the lone runs for the Clippers. A RBI single by Garrett Goetsch accounted for the winning run for the Blue Devils. Ruenger pitched five innings, striking out four for the Clippers in a no-decision.

Clippers soccer earns draw against Zephyrs

For a second game in a row, Sturgeon Bay’s defense kept the scoresheet clean. Keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had 10 saves and has not yielded a goal in three straight games.

“Izzy’s play has been outstanding. We lost a starting defender in our last game, but still put a fine defensive game together. Sophomore Maria Neri and Junior Miya Nell joined center backs Yarrow Goetelmann and Riley Anderson to lead a fine defensive effort. Our holding midfielder, Shambo Wienke, has been an extremely reliable and hard-working factor in all of our games. While we are struggling to score, we have positioned ourselves well in our conference and section early in the season with our defense. As a team, we have played with determination, and we are improving with each game.” SBHS has yet to play a home game this season. Next up for the Clippers is Ronald Reagan HS in Milwaukee.

Clippers baseball stung by Hornets twice

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team came up empty in its twinbill against Green Bay Preble on Saturday, losing both ends of its doubleheader 3-1 and 9-1.

In game one, the Clippers scored their lone run when Steven Prescott's bunt single brought home Ethan Kratcha. The lead was short-lived as the Hornets scored in their half of the third inning to make it 1-1. It would stay that way until the sixth inning when the Hornets tallied two runs on an Ian DeBaker single and an error. Kratcha, Caleb Plzak, Prescott, and Siggy Hansen registered the only hits for the Clippers as Kratcha took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs (1 ER) and nine hits while striking out five.

The Clippers' offensive struggles were only matched by their defense as they committed five errors in the game. A four-run fourth inning all but took the Clippers out of the game. The Clippers' lone run came in the top of the seventh inning down 9-0 when Prescott popped out to the right fielder to bring in Kratcha. Plzak and Kratcha collected the lone hits for the Clippers. Bryce Plzak took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs (0 ER) and one hit across three innings while striking out two.

Clippers soccer, Blazers play to draw

Strong defenses and great goalkeeping kept the match between Sturgeon Bay and NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy scoreless at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon.

Sturgeon Bay’s defense held the Blazers to six shots on goal, and Clippers keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had six saves to record the shutout. Similarly, the Clippers was also unable to score.

“We have some work to do on the offensive side of our team right now, but we’ve kept our chances even in conference with the tie.”

Playing at the neutral site on another very windy night made controlling the ball difficult and frustrating for both teams.

“Later in the second half, Providence found a rhythm and created some quality chances, but our defense was able to keep shots to a minimum and defend against quality shots on goal.  Isabella did the rest.”

Next up for the Clippers is St. Mary Catholic in Menasha on Tuesday.

Clippers baseball extinguish Blazers

Ten runs in the first inning helped the Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball breathe easy the rest of the way in a 16-6 win over NEW Lutheran in six innings on Tuesday.

In addition to lacing three hits, the Clippers took advantage of four errors and six free passes to base paths. The Clippers' Ethan Kratcha and Patrick Haese were responsible for the next two runs scored to make it 12-0 after three innings. Six runs would come across the plate for the Blazers in the fourth thanks to a collection of walks and singles, but the Clippers would get two back in the bottom half thanks to Kratcha's second double and a Haese single. The Clippers would end the game early with two more runs in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice and an error.

Kratcha ended his evening 3-5 for three RBI, while Haese went 3-3 with two RBI, and Siggy Hansen made the most out of his one hit with three RBI. Kratcha also earned the win for the Clippers, striking out six while allowing nothing over three innings.

Clippers soccer shut down United

A strong northeast wind made playing conditions challenging for both teams Tuesday night at Sevastopol High School. Balls in the air were unpredictable, and early in the game, both teams struggled to possess the ball and build their attack. Still, SBHS’s Malaya Martinez (assisted by Riley Anderson) found the back of the net in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Our defense won the ball in the middle of the field, and Riley made a dagger pass to Malaya, who made a few moves to break open for a shot.

A stubborn United team continued to battle, but in the 70th minute, a foul by the United team in the box resulted in a penalty kick. Again, Malaya Martinez found the back of the net, and SB had its second goal.

We worked very hard over the past week to prepare for this game. It was good to see our players succeed and possess the ball in the attacking third of the field. In addition, our defense limited the United attacks and did not allow a shot on goal the entire game. That unit plays well together with the team. With the win, SB is 1-0 in conference play and 1-4 overall. Next up for the Clippers is NEW Lutheran in Green Bay.

Big inning sinks Clippers vs. Raiders

Six errors and a 10-run third inning ensured that Sturgeon Bay baseball's afternoon at Capital Credit Union Park was a short one, losing to Kiel 14-2 in five innings.

The Clippers were trailing 4-0 before the fatal third inning when 16 Raiders came up to bat. The Raiders drew five walks, and the Clippers committed four errors in the inning. The Clippers would draw blood in the fifth inning when Caleb Plzak reached on an error, allowing Bryce Plzak to score. Steven Prescott's flyout gave the Clippers their other run.

The loss spoiled a perfect day at the plate for Bryce Plzak, who went 3-3 with a run scored while four other Clippers registered hits. Sigg Hansen took the loss for the Clippers, allowing nine runs (3 ER) on six hits and three walks across 2 1/3 innings.

Sturgeon Bay posts five event wins at Denmark Cold Invite Track Meet

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers track teams took things outside for one of their first meets of the season on Friday.

The Clippers captured several events wins, including Braden Evers (shotput), Ella Tarkowski (100m hurdles), Cady Carlson (400m), and Delaney Skiba(1600m and 3200m). Several others finished in the top five overall.
