Clippers soccer facing Hawks in sectional final on U-102.1

The final night of Coach Todd Maas' coaching career at Clark Field was a memorable one as his Sturgeon Bay Clippers outlasted Kiel 3-1 in overtime Thursday night to clinch a sectional final berth.
The Clippers found themselves down 1-0 at the break and trailed until Zone Wienke was able to find the back of the net in the 67th minute. With some chances late for the Raiders, the Clippers were able to force the game in overtime.
Wienke and Finn Stevenson came through for the Clippers in the extra frames, each scoring goals to clinch the victory. It was Maas' 300th as the team's coach with an opportunity to add potentially three more to that total before he steps aside at the end of the season.
The Clippers will be back on the road for their sectional final as they face Xavier in Kiel at 1 p.m. Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 12:45 p.m. with the pregame show.
A nearly unblemished conference mark is thanks to great players and as far as the Packerland Conference is concerned, two of the best wear the red and blue of Sturgeon Bay.
Will Estes was named the player of the year while Jaylen Reynolds was named the defensive player of the year. Overall, the Clippers had eight players named All-Conference, including six on the First Team. The Clippers will look to advance in the sectional round when they welcome Kiel to Clark Field for a 7 p.m. match. NEW Radio Sports Network will carry the game live on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. with pregame show followed by the first touch with Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin on the call from Clark Field at 7 p.m.

On Friday, the Sturgeon Bay Cross Country team competed in the State Sectionals in Waupaca. It was a beautiful night for a run on a challenging course, and our runners worked hard, with a number receiving personal records. Delaney Skiba ran her hardest and placed 5th as an individual runner and earned a spot at state. We’re incredibly proud of Delaney and the team for their hard work this season! Go Clippers!!
The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team only needed 60 minutes to earn their trip to Saturday's regional final, beating Bowler/Gresham 10-0 at Clark Field on Thursday.
The Clippers led 8-0 at the break and didn't wait long to send the Wildcats home on short notice. The match included the fastest goal in Clipper History (nine seconds) by Finn Stevenson. Stevenson also earned the fastest hat trick in team history (seven minutes). Jaxson Bleck will be by Stevenson in the record books, garnering the program's second fastest hat trick (14 minutes) in the win. Aiden Benzinger added a brace with two goalscorers in the mix as well.
The win started the farewell tour for head coach Todd Maas, who is stepping away from the program at the end of the season.
The Bulldogs will be next on the hit list for the Clippers after they beat Providence 1-0 on the road on Thursday. In their last match, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
The Notre Dame Academy/Sturgeon Bay Co-op boys volleyball team will hit the road this Friday for their playoff opener against Kaukauna. Kaukauna's last game saw a 3-0 loss to Kimberly, while the Tritons fell 3-2 to Appleton West in their previous outing. Sturgeon Bay senior Ryan Felhofer contributed 27 digs, 18 assists, and 4 aces.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team is set to host Gresham/Bowler this Thursday in a WIAA Regional playoff game. The Clippers are entering this match with momentum, riding a seven-game winning streak. Their recent performance includes a 2-0 victory over Algoma. The Wildcats are also coming off a victory, having recently defeated Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran.

The Door County United Girls High School Swim Team made a big comeback from last week with their first place win at the Shawano Sprints All Conference meet.
The team collectively scored 262 points, with New London coming in second at 253 points. The team had at least one top five finish in each event for the evening.
Top finishes for the evening included first place in the 200 Medley Relay consisting of Quinn Sperber (SDHS), Hazel Monfils (SDHS), Chloe Bissen (SBHS), and Kailyn Neville (SDHS). Bissen and Monfils also both finished 2nd in their individual events, with Chloe in the 100 yard Individual Medley and Hazel in the 50 yard Breaststroke.
Senior Bre Anderson (SEV) also had some strong finishes in both the 100 yard Individual Medley, where she dropped nearly ten seconds, and the 50 yard Freestyle to earn 6 points for the team. Her
The conference meet is Thursday, October 30th at Clintonville High School. There are currently many teams in contention for the conference title and it will be a battle until the end for all teams.
It was senior night for Sturgeon Bay on Friday as the Clippers honored their four seniors (Andres Rodriguez, Mason Tristani, Dominic Blish and Makale Lucas) in their final home game of the season. Despiste strong effort the Bonduel Bears controlled the game on both sides of the ball, winning 62-0.
Sturgeon Bay showed early energy after recovering a muffed punt near midfield on their opening drive, but Bonduel’s defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs. The Bears’ offense found its rhythm soon after, scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter behind running back Carter Moesch, who recorded all four.
Moesch opened the scoring with a two-yard run before adding a 53-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Quinn Wesenberg and two more rushing scores to put Bonduel ahead 28-0 after one.
The Bears’ defense continued to swarm, capitalizing on turnovers and creating opportunities for their offense. Malachi Gray added a short rushing touchdown and Cory Wussow caught a 44-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 42-0 at halftime.
The Clippers put together one of their best drives late in the second quarter, advancing deep into Bonduel territory on a connection between Trygg Stuth and Alex Boden, but time expired before they could reach the end zone.
In the second half, Bonduel rotated in younger players but maintained momentum. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Niles threw a touchdown pass to Aiden Hillsberg on his first drive and added another to Brayson Peebles later in the third quarter. Tomas VanderZanden capped off the scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown run to make it 62-0.
The Clippers close the season out winless Friday night, but finish on a high-note celebrating their four impactful seniors.
It was a physical battle for the last regular season home game for Sturgeon Bay soccer team against the Algoma Wolves on Thursday evening with the Clippers securing the 2-0 win.
The Clippers opened the scoring Daniel Wienke tallying his goal in the 7th minute off a cross from Finn Stevenson. Fifty-five minutes later in the 62nd minute, it was Aiden Bensinger finding the back of the net with the assist going to Joni Ismaili.
The Clippers will start their playoff run next Thursday against the winner of the Gresham/Bowler v. Green Bay NEW Lutheran match on U-102.1 with coverage starting at 6:45pm. The Wolves open at home against Wrightstown.
The Sturgeon Bay Clippers finished their conference schedule in thrilling fashion Thursday night Oct 16th outlasting Peshtigo in a five-set battle on their home court (22–25, 25–20, 25–20, 25–19, 15–12).
After dropping the first 2 sets, the Clippers settled in behind strong passing and balanced offensive play to take control the rest of the match. Sturgeon Bay’s resilience and energy showed as they closed out the final sets to secure the victory and end conference play on a high note.
Offensively, Izzy Schoeneman added 16 kills on a .300 hitting efficiency, contributing 9 digs and steady serve-receive work. Audrey Harrington led the attack with 13 kills, 11 digs, and a +14 plus/minus performance, swinging aggressively throughout the night. Miya Nell chipped in 7 kills and 10 earned points, while Regan Kasten was efficient at the net with 5 kills with many scrappy plays at the net. Yarrow Goettelman added 3 kills and several key defensive plays long with Cora Frangipane helping the Clippers maintain momentum.
Makenna Coyhis directed the offense with precision, tallying 47 assists and 5 digs while keeping Peshtigo’s blockers off balance. The Clippers’ back-row defense was anchored by Schoeneman, Harrington, and Carmody, combining for over 30 digs in the match.
Head Coach Mary Harrington praised her team’s grit after the match, saying it was a great way to close out conference play. "The girls kept fighting, trusted each other, and finished strong," Harrington said. "You could feel the confidence building with every set.”
With the win, Sturgeon Bay carries solid momentum into postseason play. The Clippers now head to Kewaunee on Tuesday night to open regional play, a rematch opportunity and a second chance to challenge the Storm.
The Sturgeon Bay football team is preparing for their homecoming match against Bonduel this Friday.
The Bears are coming into this game off a 48-13 victory over Oconto.
The Clippers are coming off a 54-0 loss to Southern Door. Despite the loss, many Clippers still showed out, including Trygg Stuth, who led the team in yards with 93, and Alex Boden also had 55 yards. On the defensive side, Drew Propsom had 7 tackles, all of which were solo; Jhamir Robertson had 5 tackles and a forced fumble.

The Clippers are on a nine-game unbeaten streak, going 8-0-1 in that stretch. That includes wins last week over NEW Lutheran (8-0), Providence Academy (4-1), and Seymour (3-0). In the past month, Sturgeon Bay has outscored its opponents 37-4.
The Wolves have played approximately .500 soccer since a 3-0 win over Denmark, going 2-3-2 during that stretch. That includes a 2-2 draw at home against Providence Academy on Monday.

Audrey Harrington led the attack with 12 kills and a .360 hitting efficiency, keeping Sevastopol’s defense on its heels.
Yarrow Goettelman and Regan Kasten each contributed 9 kills, combining for a .500 hitting percentage and multiple momentum-swinging plays at the net.
Miya Nell was efficient from the middle, adding 3 kills and key touches on blocking all night.
Setter Makenna Coyhis distributed the offense with precision, finishing with 34 assists and a 47% team kill rate.
Defensive Highlights

One of the top overall seed in the upcoming WIAA Soccer Tournament belongs to Sturgeon Bay.
The Clippers, Columbus Catholic, Ripon, and Oostburg earned the top-seed in their respective sectionals when they brackets were announced over the weekend. The announcement comes after the Clippers earned a 3-0 victory over Seymour on Friday and a 4-1 win against Providence Academy the previous day.
The Clippers will battle the winner of NEW Lutheran and Gresham/Bowler on October 23rd.
The Sturgeon Bay Clippers went 2-2 on Saturday at the Mayville Tournament, earning wins over Lodi and Berlin before falling to Mayville and Oconto.
The Clippers opened the day with a three-set win over Lodi, taking the first set 25-17, dropping the second 23-25, and closing it out 15-10. They followed with another three-set victory against Berlin, winning 25-21, 21-25 and 15-8.
Sturgeon Bay battled hard against the host Cardinals but came up short in a 1-2 loss (17-25, 25-22, 11-15) before falling to Oconto 0-2 (19-25, 23-25).
Individual Highlights
Audrey Harrington delivered a dominant performance with 43 kills, hitting efficiently throughout the day while adding 32 digs and strong serve-receive play.
Izzy Schoeneman followed with 27 kills and 26 digs, providing consistent offense from both pins.
Regan Kasten contributed 15 kills and an 80 percent serving efficiency, while also steadying the defense with 15 digs.
Setter Makenna Coyhis tallied over 65 assists, running a balanced, up-tempo attack that kept opponents on their heels.
Yarrow Goettelman, Reen Walker, Sofia Carmody, and Cora Frangipane each made key contributions in defense, serving, blocking and energy plays that helped fuel the Clippers.
“The best part was hearing other coaches comment on how much fun our girls were having while still playing such steady defense,” said Coach Mary Harrington. “That’s the kind of culture we’ve been building all season.”
The Clippers have continued to show growth as the season winds down and now prepare for two tough Packerland matchups while holding steady in third place.
Sturgeon Bay, now 10-25 overall and 4-2 in conference play, wraps up the regular season next week with a road match at Sevastopol (fifth) on Tuesday, October 14, before hosting Peshtigo (second) on Thursday, October 16 at 7 p.m.

Daniel and Zone Wienke put the Clippers ahead in the first half with goals before Finn Stevenson added an insurance tally in the second half.
With 12 shots on goal and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks, Head Coach Todd Maas was happy with the opportunities his squad was able to generate and credited the Thunder's goalkeeper with making several strong saves. "I thought the boys played a pretty solid game," Maas said after the game. "Now we rest up this weekend, and hit it hard first thing next week and get ready for the final push."

The Clippers came out strong in the opening set, but Southern Door battled back to take the next two, putting Sturgeon Bay on the brink. Fueled by the home crowd and the emotion of Senior Night, the Clippers rallied with a gritty 25–23 win in the fourth and dominated the decisive fifth set 15–6.
Offensively, Audrey Harrington paced the Clippers with a match-high 13 kills and added two aces. Regan Kasten was efficient at the net, tallying seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage while adding four blocks. Yarrow Goettelman contributed six kills and three aces, swinging aggressively from the pins. Miya Nell chipped in 5 kills, keeping the offense balanced.

The duel will take place at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA. In their most recent dual meet, Door County United swam against Shawano/Bonduel co-op and secured a 103-49 victory. DCU took first place in all but one event of the evening. Several swimmers delivered outstanding individual performances. Shaeffer Rass took first place in the 100 backstroke and a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Rachel Rock secured third place in the 50 freestyle. Kailyn Neville took first in the 200 medley and the 100 backstroke. Chloe Bissen finished first in the 100-meter butterfly and in the 200-meter freestyle.

In the girls race, Delaney Skiba continued to turn in Top 10 performances, this time coming in 7th place overall with a time of 20:41. The Haus brothers paced the Clippers boys with Atticus (20:15) having the edge over Deacon (20:59) to come in 15th and 20th respectively.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers earned a key conference victory on Thursday night, defeating Algoma 3–1 (25–16, 25–12, 23–25, 25–16) on the road at Algoma High School.
The Clippers came out strong, controlling the pace early with aggressive serving and balanced offensive play. After taking the first two sets decisively, Algoma battled back in the third, edging out a 25–23 win to extend the match. Sturgeon Bay responded with composure, dominating the fourth set behind steady defense and efficient hitting to close out the match.
Offensively, freshman Izzy Schoeneman powered the offense with a team-high 17 kills, attacking with confidence at the net and keeping Algoma’s defense under pressure. Audrey Harrington followed closely with 16 kills. Miya Nell was highly efficient, finishing with nine kills, while Regan Kasten chipped in 7 kills. Yarrow Goettelman added six kills to round out a balanced attack.
From the service line, the Clippers racked up 12 aces, led by Harrington with 5. Schoeneman not only starred offensively but also anchored the defense with 18 digs. The Sturgeon Bay football team is getting ready for a rare Thursday night game in Mishicot.
In the Clippers' last game, they lost to Kewaunee 55-0. The game marked the third time the Clippers were shut out on the season and the fourth time the defense gave up 50+ points.
Mishicot is also coming off a loss, losing 34-14 to Bonduel. The Indians' offense runs through quarterback Benjamin Backus, who has over 600 yards passing and 600 yards rushing, registering 18 total touchdowns on the season.
The kick-off is at 7:00 pm.
The Sturgeon Bay soccer team is traveling to face Kewaunee this Thursday for a Packerland Conference match.
In the Clippers' last match, they beat United 3-0 at home. In the 20th minute, it was a cross from Ismaili to Stephenson who found the net off a header to start the scoring for the Clippers. After that, the Clippers were in control for the majority of the game. In the 40th minute, right before halftime, Jaxzen Bleck used his head for the second goal of the match off a cross from Champeny. In the 64th minute, Aiden Benzinger was able to put Sturgeon Bay up 3-0, and that's where the contest would end.
Meanwhile, the Storms’ last game saw a 6-3 loss to Denmark.

The Sturgeon Bay girls golf team teed up for the final time on Wednesday competing at the WIAA Regional hosted at Northbrook Golf Course in Luxemburg.
The Clippers finished in 8th place with a score of 504 (+212), which fell outside the team qualifying window. No golfers qualified for next week's WIAA Sectional in Seymour, but they still ended their season on a high note. Keira Wesley led the Clippers with a 29th-place finish and a score of +50 123. Teammate Hayden Montevideo was on a stroke behind her in 31st place. Other Clippers golfers included Maria Neri (34th, 127), Maggie Huempfner (35th, 130), and Talia Schmidt (38th, 134).
