Clippers take on Pioneers in Packerland Conference play

The Sturgeon Bay girls basketball team will travel to Sevastopol to play the Pioneers in conference action on Friday December 31st. 

 

The Pioneers come into this game winners in 7 of their first 8 matchups, and are currently on a 4 game win streak and are hoping to make it 5 straight with a win over the Clippers. Naomi Rikkola is leading the Pioneers in scoring with 15 points per game, and Bailey Rikkola is averaging 13 points per game. Both are also the top two rebounders on the team.

 

As for the Clippers, they come in seeking their first win on the season after losing their first 5 matchups.

Clippers lose to Irish for third straight loss

The Sturgeon Bay boys basketball team concluded tournament play in the Freedom Classic losing to the tournament host Freedom Irish 67-44 on Wednesday December 29th. 

 

The Clippers trailed by 13 at the halftime break and were never able to overcome that deficit against the Freedom Irish. Garrett Ulberg led the Clippers with 14 points, while Danny Lodl and Preston Newton each added 8 a piece for Sturgeon Bay. 

 

Freedom got a big lift from Landon VanCalster who posted 25 points, while Blake Kortz added 13 and Ashton Peterson scored 11. 

 

The Clippers next game will be on Tuesday January 4th as they host Packerland Conference rival Southern Door.

Clippers look to take down Tigers

The Sturgeon Bay girls basketball team is traveling to Chilton to face the Tigers on Wednesday December 30th. 

 

Sturgeon Bay is hoping to avoid their sixth straight loss to open up the season after losing to Kewaunee in their last game 88-27. 

 

As for the Tigers, they have two players averaging double digit points per contest. Olivia Hoerl is averaging 25 points per game, and Adahlyn Hoerl is averaging 13 points per game.

Wrobel, Roman pick up wins at OTW Wrestling Classic

Zak Wrobel and Ben Roman each picked up wins athad the most impressive day of the three wrestlers competing at the Lourdes Academy On the Water Wrestling Classic in Oshkosh.

 

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol is in 62nd place with 12 points and just three wrestlers competing. All three wrestlers were able to advance at least one additional wrestleback round.

Clippers take on Irish at Freedom Classic

The Sturgeon Bay boys basketball team will be taking on the Freedom Irish on Wednesday December 29th as part of the Freedom Classic. 

 

The Clippers lost their first game of the tournament on Wednesday to Reedsville and are looking to go 1-1 at the event. Isaak Aune and Preston Newton are both averaging double figures for the Clippers and are looking to lead the charge against the Irish on Wednesday. 

 

As for the Irish, they come in on a 3 game win streak beating Little Chute, New London, and Rhinelander in that stretch of games. The Irish are led by Landon VanCalster who is averaging 17 points per game, and Blake Kortz who is averaging 14 points per game.

Clippers looking to avoid back to back losses at Freedom Classic

The Sturgeon Bay boys basketball team will be traveling to Freedom High School to face off with Reedsville in the Freedom Classic on Tuesday December 28th. 

 

Sturgeon Bay is coming off a hard fought battle with Peshtigo in Packerland Conference play, and are looking to avoid losing back to back games. Sturgeon Bay has two players averaging double figures, Isaak Aune is averaging 17 points per game, and Preston Newton is averaging 14 points per game. Newton also leads the team in rebounds per game. 

 

Reedsville enters this matchup a perfect 6-0, making this the second straight undefeated team the Clippers will face. The Panthers are led by Brennan Dvorachek and Zach Dvorachek who are both averaging 16 points per game. Brennan Dvorachek is also averaging 13 rebounds per game which is a team best.

Clippers fall to Bulldogs in Packerland matchup

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers boys basketball team looked to end the Peshtigo Bulldogs 5 game win streak and perfect season on Thursday night in a Packerland Conference showdown at Sturgeon Bay High School. 

 

The Clippers fell just short in knocking off Peshtigo losing by a score of 59-52. The Clippers were led by Spencer Hubbard who had 15 points. Isaak Aune chipped in 12 points, and Preston Newton also added 10 points in the loss. 

 

Peshtigo used a balanced offensive attack to secure the win with four players reaching double figures. Kaine Fort led the team with 14 points, Muaz Salem scored 13 points, Landon Lemke netted 11 points, and Christian Boyle posted 10 points. 

 

Sturgeon Bay will next be in action shortly after Christmas as they are competing in the Freedom Classic Holiday tournament at Freedom High School on December 28th and 29th.

Peshtigo travels to Sturgeon Bay to take on Clippers

Sturgeon Bay will host Peshtigo in a boys basketball game that was originally scheduled for December 10th, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. 

 

Sturgeon Bay comes in hoping to find their second Packerland Conference win after beating Sevastopol their last time out by a score of 79-43. Isaak Aune and Preston Newton led the way for the Clippers in that matchup, netting 15 points a piece. Spencer Hubbard also added 13 points in the win. 

 

Peshtigo enters the matchup at a perfect 5-0, with their latest win coming against Crivitz on Tuesday December 21st. The Bulldogs were propelled to the victory courtesy of a balanced scoring attack in which each player that logged minutes scored in the game. Muaz Salem led the Bulldogs in scoring and was the only player in double figures, posting 15 points while shooting a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc.

Sturgeon Bay girls battles Kewaunee at home

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers girls' basketball team will take their crack at Kewaunee Tuesday night in a home Packerland contest.

 

The Clippers lost their matchup to county rival Southern Door last Friday 62-40 while the Storm fell short in its comeback bid against Oconto the same night, losing 61-56.

Clippineers wrestlers take 13th

The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team battled tough against some really good programs at the Willard Schmidt Invitational hosted by Green Bay Preble on Saturday.

 

The Clippineers took 13th place overall with 81.5 points. Ben Roman was the highest place winner on the team, winning his final match by injury default at 285 pounds to come in 7th.

Lady Clippers, Eagles battle Friday night

Both Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door hope to grab their first Packerland victory of the season on Friday night in girls' basketball action.

 

The visiting Eagles lost 58-28 to Sevastopol their last time out on December 9th. Ashlyn Delfosse led the way in the loss with eight points. The host Clippers lost to conference leader Oconto 83-385 on December 3rd.

Clippers boys fire back at Pioneers in victory

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers boys' basketball team did their damage from long range on Thursday as they routed Sevastopol 79-43.

 

The Clippers hit 12 shots from behind the arc, including three apiece from Spencer Hubbard and Isaak Aune. Along with Preston Newton, the trio nearly outscored the Pioneers by themselves with 43 points as Aune and Hubbard each scored 15 points.

 

Jack DeYoung led the Pioneers with 21 points in the loss. 

Lady Clippers host Sevastopol

Two Door County rivals in girls' basketball will meet Tuesday night when Sevastopol meets Sturgeon Bay.

 

The Clippers are still looking for their first win of the season after losing to Oconto 83-38 last week. Three players are averaging five points for the Clippers. The Pioneers are coming off a 58-28 victory of Southern Door last week.

Clippers girls look to slow down Bulldogs

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers girls' basketball team hopes it can solve Sydney Lund and the Bulldogs when they travel to Peshtigo on Thursday.

 

Sydney Lund is averaging 24.2 points and 8.2 rebounds this season as the Bulldogs got off to a 4-1 start this season. The blueprint to stop Lund may be held by Bonduel, which held Lund to 12 points in their 75-60 win over the Bulldogs earlier this week. The Clippers were beaten by Oconto 84-38 earlier this week.

Clipper boys bedeviled by Oconto

Sturgeon Bay Clipper Boys lost to Oconto Blue Devils 79-58 on the road Tuesday night in Packerland Conference basketball.   Sturgeon Bay was led by Isaac Aune's 23 points and Chris Lodl's 11 points. Oconto had four players in double digits, led by Kadin Baxter's  24 points.  Oconto remains undefeated at 4-0 in the Packerland.  

Clippers boys pay Blue Devils a visit

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers head west for its second conference matchup of the season when they play at Oconto. 

 

The comeback bid came up just short for the Clippers on Saturday as they lost to Bonduel 51-44. Preston Newton and Isaak Aune are both averaging more than 15 points a game. The Blue Devils survived a furious comeback by Crivitz on Saturday, escaping with a 62-61 victory. That win preserved a perfect 3-0 start.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers dropped their game Saturday to the Bonduel Bears 51-44.  The Clippers trailed 32-20, and could only muster six field goals in the second half.  Isaak Aune and Preston Newton led the Clippers with 17 points each while Spencer Hubbard added 8 more, but it was not enough for Sturgeon Bay to overcome the Bears in Bonduel. 

 

The Clippers (0-2) will now travel to Oconto on Tuesday to take on the Blue Devils in a Packerland Conference game.

Sturgeon Bay boys travel to Bonduel

The Sturgeon Bay boys' basketball team will take a brief trip into non-conference play on Saturday when they visit Bonduel.

 

Preston Newton got 17 points and Isaak Aune added another 13 but it was not enough as NEW Lutheran earned the 67-57 win over the Clippers in their last game on Thursday. The Bears lost 62-56 to Racine Lutheran in a Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament in its only action of the season so far.

Lady Clippers stay at home vs. Oconto

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers host the Oconto Blue Devils in girls' basketball action Friday night.

 

The Lady Clippers lost its first conference home game earlier this week to NEW Lutheran 52-42. Three different Clippers players are averaging at least 5 points per game. The Blue Devils, led by perennial All-Packerland performers Lianna Baxter and Hannah Moe, more than doubled up Southern Door this week 68-31.

Sturgeon Bay boys battle NEW Lutheran at home

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers boys' basketball team welcomes NEW Lutheran to town Thursday as they open Packerland play.

 

The Blazers already have one game under their belt, beating Two Rivers 77-50 in their opener. Thursday marks the first game of the season for the Clippers after going 9-9 overall and 8-8 in the Packerland. The Clippers graduated all of its All-Packerland performers from last year.
