Clippers fall to Storm, Lodl leaves game on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers' entry into a playoff spot will have to be delayed at least one week, as they fell to the Kewaunee Storm 55-14.

Sturgeon Bay was scored on early and often in this one, as Owen Carlson opened up the scoring 3 minutes and 31 seconds into the game, as he took a rushing touchdown into the endzone. The Clippers would then fumble the ball which led to another Storm touchdown to make it 14-0. Another fumble on the next drive by Kaden Lettie led to a scoop and score by Kewaunee to make it 21-0.

Another fumble, this time by Mason Sacotte with 3:56 left in the first quarter would make it a total of 3 turnovers just in the first quarter. The Clippers would get their first stand of the game on defense, but a pick six from Kewaunee would put the Storm up 28-0 at the end of the first.

The points would not stop for the Storm as Mitchell Thompson ran it into the endzone twice to make it a 42-0 game. Thompson would then throw a back shoulder fade to Caleb Schaller to make it 48-0.

The Clippers got on the board after that as Bryce Plzak beat his man deep down the field and was open for a touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Danny Lodl suffered a left ankle injury, and would not return to the game for the Clippers.

Carlson put the game away to make it a 55-14 final after another touchdown from the Clippers.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will next be in action next Saturday as they take on the Mishicot Indians.

Clippers look to clinch playoffs versus Storm on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers look to clinch a spot in the WIAA playoffs for the first time since a 2011 appearance, ending in a round 2 loss to eventual state champs, Wrightstown.

Sturgeon Bay (4-2 Overall, 3-1 Packerland), has got its offense clicking at the right time. Going into the home stretch of the season, the Clippers have scored 40 or more in their last three wins over Marinette, Peshtigo, and most recently Oconto. Danny Lodl will be in the running for All-Packerland Conference 1st team Quarterback with his play recently, and the trio of running backs have been doing their job. An underrated part of the Clippers success though, has been their ability to shut down offenses, and play a clean game on special teams. The Clippers will have their hands full with the Kewaunee Storm, but if there was any time to play them if you’re Sturgeon Bay, it is right now while the team is clicking.

Kewaunee (6-0 Overall, 4-0 Packerland), has been rolling since the beginning of the season, and it has not slowed down through the conference season so far. The Storm are outscoring their Packerland conference opponents by a total of 194-34. Owen Carlson has been a bright spot of the Storm so far this season, having an explosive last two games, with two big plays in the Special Teams. Kewaunee has clinched their spot in the WIAA playoffs already, alongside Southern Door. They will be looking to keep the Clippers out for at least one more week.

Listen to the broadcast of Sturgeon Bay vs Kewaunee on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2, and NewRadioSportsNetwork.com with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 with kickoff set for 7:00 from Memorial Field.

Kewaunee, Sturgeon Bay make up match

Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee will renew their pleasantries on Thursday night to highlight local soccer action.

The Clippers are looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Green Bay Preble last Friday night that dropped them to 6-7-2 on the year. Despite the rough mark, the Clippers remain a sparkling 4-1-0 in the Packerland, one point behind Gibraltar Sevastopol.

The Storm is looking for their first victory of the season while their play has improved. They scored a goal in five of their last six matches and were within a score in three of them.

Match time has been moved back to 7:30 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay volleyball welcomes Kewaunee

The Sturgeon Bay volleyball team looks for a Packerland Conference win on Tuesday when Kewaunee comes to the city.

The Clippers are 4-9 on the year and 2-2 in the Packerland. The team went 2-3 at the Valders Invitational over the weekend, picking up wins against Wausaukee and Menasha with 2-0 sweeps.

The Storm is still looking for their first match victory since their season opener against Hilbert. It has also been that long since they last won a set.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Benesh inducted into WBCA Hall of Fame

The late Jim Benesh got his due over the weekend as he was officially inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Over a dozen friends and family members celebrated Benesh's legacy at the event's ceremony held in Wisconsin Dells.

Benesh passed away in February after a battle with multiple myeloma. According to his obituary, Jim coached cross country, football, softball, and both girls and boys basketball. His longest position as head coach was with the boys' basketball program, which he began in 1995. The boys had plenty of big seasons and won several Packerland Conference Championships. Under Head Coach Benesh, Sturgeon Bay Boys Basketball won more than 400 games.

Door County United continues winning streak

The Door County United (DCU) girls high school swim team’s winning streak continued with their win at the Plymouth High School Invite on Saturday September 24th.

Eight teams competed in the invite and DCU won it all with a total of 518 points. The second place team, Oregon High School, scored 510 points. DCU held the lead from the 3rd event of the meet until the 8th event. Then Oregon held the lead through the 10th event of the afternoon. By the 11th event, DCU only had a 10 point lead over Oregon. The 12th and final event of the afternoon was the 400 yard freestyle relay. Oregon’s relays were seeded higher than both of the DCU relays. DCU’s B relay, consisting of Natalia Michalski (SBHS), Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), and Chloe Bissen (SBHS) was originally seeded 9th and placed 4th overall. They assisted the team with 30 additional points which sealed the win for DCU. Sanya Wienke (SBHS) scored 33 points in her individual events alone, both of which were best times of the season as well. Danica Neville (SDHS) scored 29 points in her individual events, including a 3rd place finish overall in the 100 yard backstroke. Shambo Wienke (SBHS) was a last minute replacement for an injured swimmer. In her first varsity invite appearance she had her best time in the 200 yard freestyle this season, where she broke the 3 minute mark. The DCU swim team fought for this win at Plymouth and their efforts were well rewarded.

The DCU swim team will compete in a dual meet at Clintonville High School on Tuesday September 27th.

Clippers Soccer falls to Preble in a heartbreaker on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers played host to division one Green Bay Preble Friday night and in the final seconds gave up a goal that would decide the game. Sturgeon Bay started the game slower than they would have liked but was able to pick up momentum in the first half along with a goal on a Penalty Kick in the 31st minute. Jules Reynalds was fouled in the box and Johnny Hubbard took the kick, making it and giving the Clippers the lead which they would hold until the 51st minute when Navarro for Preble would tie the game with a breakaway goal. Then with 26 seconds to go Navarro would notch his second of the game giving the Hornets the win 2-1 over the Clippers. The next game and broadcast will be on the 29th when Sturgeon Bay hosts Kewaunee. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm and the broadcast will begin at 7:15.

Sturgeon Bay sails past Oconto on The Clipper

A slow start to the game ended in 51-21 victory for Sturgeon Bay over Oconto Friday night

The two teams traded scores in the first quarter with the Blue Devils' Kyle Bowman tying the game on a 12-yard run after the Clippers' Danny Lodl opened the game with a five-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Plzak.

The game sunk into a lull until the final two minutes of the first half. A long punt by Hayden Tracy and a penalty put the Blue Devils' heels near their own endzone. David Zuelke caused the chaos that led to a safety to give the Clippers a 9-7 lead they would not give up. Following the safety kick, Zuelke scored from 12 yards out to extend the lead. The Blue Devils' Alex Fuller and the Clippers' Kordell Anderson would the end the half with dueling kickoff returns for touchdowns.

With a Fuller touchdown in between for the Blue Devils, Lodl would connect with Kaden Lettie for 24 yards and Plzak for 40 to keep the game at two scores. The Blue Devils' third quarter touchdown came with some controversy as a botched snap and fumble led to a scrum near the goal line. Fuller was able to somehow escape out of the pile and find an open receiver for an 80-yard passing play before punching it in.

The fourth quarter saw  the feel-good moment of the game when the Clippers' coaching staff called a run play on the goal line for lineman Dominic Tristani who scored a touchdown on his birthday.

Braylon La Roche capped off the scoring on the night with a two-yard touchdown run.

The Clippers return home next weekend for a date with Packerland Conference-leading Kewaunee.

Clippers soccer carries offensive explosion to U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team hopes it can continue its strong offensive output Friday night as it hosts Green Bay Preble.

Days after topping Green Bay East with a five-goal night and a clean sheet, the Clippers followed suit with a 9-0 win against Peshtigo on Thursday. The team started strong and had a 6-0 lead at the half. Six Clippers found the back of the net including Isaac Schulz (2), Gavin Fernandez (2), Ben Stephen (2), Jackson Starr (1), Espen Walker (1), and Landen Hintz (1).

Sturgeon Bay is back in action tonight at Clark Field with the host Green Bay Preble. The Hornets (5-4-2) are in the middle of their own offensive hot streak. They beat Sheboygan South 9-1 on Thursday after a 6-0 win over crosstown rival Green Bay Southwest on Tuesday. This game is a special broadcast on U-102.1 starting at 6:15 with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay travels to Oconto for conference match-up on The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers travel around the bay on Friday night for a Packerland football matchup against Oconto.

The Clippers (3-2) enter the contest on a two-game winning streak. Danny Lodl threw for 360 yards and five touchdowns in the Clippers' 40-14 victory over Marinette last Friday night. Lodl leads the Packerland Conference with 900 yards passing on the season with an 11/3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The Blue Devils have the same record as the Clippers, but just below them in the Packerland with a 1-2 conference record. They have been shut out in both of their losses this season, though it took them until the third overtime last week to lose to Mishicot 6-0. Quarterback Kyle Bowman does his work on his feet, rushing for 467 yards and four scores on the season.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 103.3/96.7 WBDK HD-2 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m. Keep an eye on our podcast page on Friday for our pregame interview with head coach Carl Waterstreet.

Clippers volleyball visits Blazers

The Sturgeon Bay volleyball hope to knock off conference-leading NEW Lutheran when they head to Green Bay on Thursday.

The Clippers enter the match with a 1-6 mark, including 1-2 in the Packerland. They toppled Oconto in four sets on last Thursday, including a dominating 25-12 score in the final frame.

The Blazers are 14-8 on the season with a perfect Packerland mark of 3-0. All eight of their losses have come in tournaments against likely Division 1 and Division 2 teams. They did wrap up the Pulaski Invite on a high note over the weekend with 2-0 win over Marinette.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Clippers soccer looks to carry momentum into Peshtigo

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers hope their match against Green Bay East was the kickstart they need for the rest of the 2022 campaign that continues Thursday at Peshtigo.

The Clippers erupted for five goals against the Red Devils after having goalies post clean sheets against them in five of their previous six matches. Most of their struggles as of late have been against quality Division 1 programs, going 0-3-1 against them during the month before the Green Bay East match. Against other opponents in other divisions, they are 2-1 in the month of September.

The Bulldogs are 2-5 on the season, with wins against Marinette and Kewaunee their lone bright spots. They have given up eight goals in their last two of their last three starts, including 8-1 to Three Lakes/Phelps on Tuesday.

Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.

DCU swimming heads to Wittenberg-Birnamwood

The Door County United swimming team hits the road again on Tuesday for a meet against Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

The Door County United (DCU) Girls Swim Team brought home yet another win against Plymouth High School on Thursday 9/15/22. The junior varsity team final score was 74-43 and the varsity team final score was 122-52. The team scored points in all varsity events of the evening. Top scorers for the varsity team included Christy Braun (SBHS) and Cassie Rankin (SEV) who both finished first place in their individual events for the evening. Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS) assisted the team nicely with top 5 finishes in all of her varsity events. Especially with her 3rd place finish in the 100 yard freestyle where she beat her opponent by .03 seconds. Brooke Strege (SDHS) was yet another swimmer who finished in the top 3 for all of her individual events, which helped the team score an additional 8 points. Overall the team’s hard work is paying off with success against teams of all sizes.

The first events start at 6 p.m.

Five Clippers Score to lead the team over Green Bay East on The Clipper

Last night at Clark Field, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers Soccer team looked strong from defense to offense against the Red Devils from Green Bay East. The scoring for the Clippers with Porter Gigstead in the 13th minute (assisted by Klotz). Two minutes later, Isaac Schulz would find the back of the net in the 15th minute with his head, and this time Gigstead had the assist. That's where the game would be at halftime 2-0. Kayden Klotz would add the Clippers' 3rd goal (assisted by Rangel) in the 55th minute. The Red Devils would have a chance in the 56th when Hubbard would pick up a Yellow card in the penalty box leading to a PK. Huerta would take the kick for Green Bay, knocking it off the crossbar, and the round was covered up by keeper Jack Larson. Sturgeon Bay would add two more goals in the game's closing minutes (Alas-69th & Walker 76th), making the final score 5-0. The Clippers travel to Peshtigo Thursday and then host Green Bay Preble on Friday. A broadcast schedule of the games is available on the events calendar.

Sturgeon Bay soccer battles Green Bay East on The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers look to keep the soccer season afloat on Monday when they battle the Red Devils of Green Bay East on Monday night.

It has not been smooth sailing for the Clippers in September, going 2-4-2 since September 1st. That includes a 1-0 conference loss to Gibraltar/Sevastopol and a 2-0 defeat to Bay Port last week.

The Red Devils are 6-3 on the season, including two straight wins over Manitowoc Lincoln (6-0) and Green Bay West (11-0) that saw them score 17 goals. Since losing two straight matches at the turn of the month, the Red Devils have gone 4-1-0.

Bryan Mazur will have the call on 103.3/96.7 WBDK HD-2 from Clark Field beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

Clippers run through Bulldogs on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers kept their winning ways going as they were able to take over the game once again in the second half, winning 40-14 over the Peshtigo Bulldogs.

The Clippers got the scoring started early, after stuffing the Bulldogs short of a first down on a 4th and 1, Danny Lodl found Kaden Lettie for a 47 Yard Touchdown pass to make it a quick 7-0 lead for Sturgeon Bay. The Clippers would answer themselves with another touchdown, this one being a 14 yard scamper from running back David Zuehlke to push the lead to 13-0.

Peshtigo was not going to go down without a fight however, as Kavin Kleikamp broke multiple would-be Clipper tackles on his way to a 52 yard touchdown run, as the Bulldogs were on the board 13-6. That one score lead would not last long as Danny Lodl connected on his second of 5 touchdowns on the night, this one to Patrick Haese for 55 Yards to make it 19-6.

A 2 Yard Touchdown by Trevor Marquardt would send the halftime score to 19-14 at the break.

That is when just like last week, the floodgates would open as 20 seconds into the second half, Danny Lodl would take just one play to get the Clippers back on the board with a 62 Yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 27-14.

Danny Lodl would throw two more touchdown passes on the night, to Patrick Haese for 6 yards and Caleb Plzak for 51 yards respectively. That would make the final score 40-14 Clippers.

The player of the game was Quarterback Danny Lodl as he racked up 5 touchdown passes on the night and led the Sturgeon Bay offense.

In other games around the Packerland, Southern Door took care of business 34-6 over Marinette, and Kewaunee took down Bonduel 40-19.

Clippers soccer regains form in loss to Bay Port

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer fell to top-ranked Bay Port in a close battle. Final score was 2-0, and the Clipper had a chance in the closing minute but missed a penalty kick. According to Coach Maas, the team played much better. The Clippers' next game is Monday at home against Green Bay East, and that game can be heard on 103.3 The Clipper.

Sturgeon Bay volleyball captures first conference win vs. Oconto

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers took a big step forward on Thursday, capturing their first Packerland victory 3-1 over Oconto.

The Clippers won the first set 25-21, only to see the Blue Devils storm back with a 25-16 win of their own. The door would be closed by the Clippers in the back half of the match, winning the sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-12.

Sturgeon Bay Clippers Soccer Stunned at home and on The Clipper against Gibraltar/Sevastopol

A beautiful night at Clark Field turned where the two teams on top of the Packerland conference battled, left the Gibraltar/Sevastopol Vikineers in first place after they beat the Clippers 1-0.

The first half ended with the Vikineers having the lead after a Lardinois goal in the 36th minute off a free kick from Voight. That was the only shot that Vikineers would get on frame all night, and it was the only one they needed to leave Clark Field with a victory and the sole lead in the Packerland.

The Clippers played strong and had over 12 shots on goal but could not find the back of the net. Sturgeon Bay's next game is Friday night when they battle Bay Port in Suamico.

Kurek, Forest lead Clippers XC at Valders

A pair of Sturgeon Bay juniors led the way for the Clippers at the Bob Burzynski Invite hosted by Valders on Thursday.

For the boys, Gavin Forest led the way with a time of 31:42 on the 5K course. His teammate, senior Elijah Pinkert, ran a season-best 32:05 to come right behind Forest in 73rd place. The Clippers did not score as a team due to a lack of participants.

Julia Kurek posted the fastest time for the Clippers girls team, finishing in 7th place with 189 points. Valders won the meet on their home course with 37 points. Kurek finished in 29th place overall with a time of 24:53.

Clippers travel to Peshtigo on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will be back on the field on Friday night as they travel to Peshtigo to take on the Bulldogs.

Sturgeon Bay (2-2 Overall, 1-1 Conference), has had some up and down performances on the year, but potentially none better than the most recent game against Marinette. After going down 20-12, the Clippers were able to score 29 points in the second half en route to a 49-27 win over the Marinette Marines. The offense was finally able to get rolling again and they will look to keep it rolling against the Bulldogs of Peshtigo.

Peshtigo (0-4, 0-2 Packerland), has been shutout their last two games and have managed to score just 16 points in 4 weeks. The offense will need to get into form against the Clippers, who have allowed over 20 points in their last three games. The opportunity for the Bulldogs to score could be there, but we will have to see if they take advantage of it.

Quinn Struck and Gary Barta will be on the call from Peshtigo on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show begins at 6:45 with kickoff set for 7.

Sturgeon Bay welcomes in Oconto for Packerland play

The Sturgeon Bay girls volleyball team will play host to the reigning Packerland Conference champions Oconto Blue Devils on Thursday.

Sturgeon Bay (0-6 Overall, 0-2 Packerland), has finally picked their first set win in a 5 set nailbiting loss against the Peshtigo Bulldogs, and potentially might have turned the corner on their season, and will be able to test that against Oconto. The Clippers have the talent to make a season turnaround, and also have the time to do it as well.

Oconto (3-16 Overall, 1-1 Packerland), has finally lost their first conference match going back to last season when they were undefeated. Oconto lost to Algoma in three sets, and will look to turn that around against the Clippers, who appear to be playing better volleyball as well.

The match will begin at 7:00 P.M. in Sturgeon Bay.

Clippers set to run at Valders

The Sturgeon Bay cross country team will travel to Valders High School to run the trails at their next cross country meet on Thursday.

For the boys team, it is Gavin Forest as the lone runner, setting his personal record at the most recent Shawano Invitational on September 10th. Forest would go on to run a 25:13.1 at that meet.

Sturgeon Bay’s girls team is led by Julia Kurek and Jade Tomberlin, two juniors who both have times under the 24 minute mark. The girls team will look to all improve their times in Valders on Thursday.

The meet is set to begin at 4:00 P.M.

Clippers play county rival on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers look to extend their point streak on Thursday when they host a familiar foe in Gibraltar/Sevastopol.

After losing two matches at The Prairie School Quad, the Clippers have gone 1-0-1, including a 3-1 conference win over NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy their last time out. Their non-conference match against Fox Valley Lutheran was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Vikineers join the Clippers as the only teams in the Packerland with a perfect 3-0 conference record. They beat Kewaunee 2-1 in their last match and are currently enjoying a two-game winning streak after dropping three straight to end the month of August.

Bryan Mazur and Reece Robillard will have the call on 103.3 The Clipper beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening kick at 6:30 p.m.

Clippers look to extend point streak against Fox Valley Lutheran

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team look to extend their point streak to three when they travel to the Appleton area on Monday to face Fox Valley Lutheran.

After getting a hard-fought tie against De Pere, the Clippers collected their first win since September 1st with a 3-1 victory over NEW Lutheran last Thursday at home.

The Foxes have lost two straight matches after winning their first four of the season. They lost to Pulaski 8-0 and Xavier 4-3 on consecutive days last weekend.

The opening touch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Clippers own 2nd half, win on 103.3 The Clipper

Sturgeon Bay vs Marinette was a tale of two halves for the Clippers, as they came out with a 49-27 win over the Marines.

The Clippers went down to a 7-0 hole once again this game, but was able to fight back to tie it back up at 7. After a couple of turnovers and scores, the Clippers found themselves down 21-12 with around a minute to play.

Patrick Haese was able to find the end zone for the Clippers, and then picked off Ethan Doubeck to set up a potential go-ahead touchdown to go into halftime. The Clippers got two chances, but were unable to connect after a holding penalty brought back the touchdown scored, and a ball thrown into the hands of Kaden Lettie and dropped made it 21-20 going into half.

That is when it turned for the Clippers, as Coach Carl Waterstreet said some magic words to the team at the half to make it all Sturgeon Bay in the second half. Sturgeon Bay scored 14 unanswered before a Marines kick return. That kick return was responded with a Patrick Haese kick return for a touchdown to put Sturgeon Bay ahead for good and ended the game with a 49-27 win over the Marinette Marines.

The player of the game was Patrick Haese, making a huge impact all over the field with a touchdown, interception and kickoff return for a TD.

Sturgeon Bay moves to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Packerland conference this season after beating Marinette.

Clippers soccer break the scoring drought, beat Blazers on The Clipper

After a scoreless first half of play, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team found the back of the net for the first time in over three games with a Gavin Fernandez goal in the 42nd minute of play (assisted by Issac Schulz).

The Clippers wouldn't take long to extend that lead, with another goal added by Fernandez less than nine minutes later, assisted by Alas. The Blazers would be awarded a penalty kick in the 56th minute of play, where Brady Paul for N.E.W. Lutheran took the shot and scored off the rebound, making the game 2-1. Ending the scoring for the night would be Sturgeon Bay's Isaac Schulz, who found side netting off of a corner kick in the 59th minute of play, and that's where the game would end, the Clippers beat the Blazers 3-1 at Clark Field. The defense played strong again for the Clippers, led by Hubbard, Hooker, Hintz, and Marsh. The next broadcast for Clippers soccer will be Friday, September 16th, when they travel to Bay Port.

Sturgeon Bay seeks to snap losing streak on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will look to shake off a 2 game losing streak when they welcome the Marinette Marines to Memorial Field.

Sturgeon Bay (1-2), have lost their last two games against Antigo and conference opponent Bonduel, but have shown the ability to stay in games within those two losses, still giving them confidence against Marinette. The Clippers and Marines are the two new teams to the Packerland conference, and the Clippers are led by a 3 man backfield of David Zuehlke, Mason Sacotte, and Caleb Plzak. Plzak has burst onto the scene the past two weeks, carrying the ball more often and getting longer down looks, whereas Zuehlke has been the workhorse for the team the whole season. The Clippers will look to get back to .500 overall and in the Packerland.

Marinette (1-2), has had a similar start to the season as Sturgeon Bay has, blowing out Green Bay East, but then struggling their next two games, losing 40-6 to Menominee (MI) and Kewaunee 56-8. The Marines have multiple players that contribute on offense, and showed against Green Bay East that they can score points, winning 41-0. Marinette will be looking for their first win in Packerland history this Friday against Sturgeon Bay.

Gary Barta and Quinn Struck will have the call from Memorial Field as Sturgeon Bay hosts Marinette on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2 and NewRadioSportsNetwork.com with pregame starting at 6:45 and kickoff set for 7:00 P.M.

Clippers girls golf heads to Winneconne

Sturgeon Bay Volleyball set to play Peshtigo Thursday

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers volleyball team will be matching up against the Peshtigo Bulldogs as they still look for their first won set of the year.

After a defeat to the Sevastopol Pioneers where the Clippers never cracked the 20 point mark, being held to 10 or less in two sets, Sturgeon Bay was swept by the Shawano Community Hawks. Sturgeon Bay has a chance to turn things around Thursday night against the Bulldogs, who have had a great start to their season.

The Bulldogs are 9-5 overall to begin their year, and have a win in the lone Packerland conference match played. A 3rd place conference finish for Peshtigo last season is something that they are hoping to build on and make a run for the title this year.

First serve is at 7:00 P.M. in Peshtigo.

One team will go home with their first conference loss of the year.

NEW Lutheran is 2-0 in conference this season, and are 4-1-1 overall to begin the year. The Blazers average 4.0 Goals per match so far, so the matchup between the Clippers and NEW will be one to watch for conference championship tiebreakers this early in the season.

Bonduel too much for Clippers on 103.3 The Clipper

Sturgeon Bay’s first Packerland conference game in a couple seasons did not go how they wanted it to, losing to the Bears of Bonduel 41-7.

From the start Sturgeon Bay seemed to be outmatched by the Bonduel running game, as they gave up chunk yards play after play until Quarterback Noah Weier kept the ball himself on a designed run for him and he was untouched to the endzone. The Bears would pile on once again with a run to Louis Hrabik to make it a 14-0 ball game at the end of the first quarter.

The touchdowns kept coming for Bonduel, as the third different player for the Bears scored a touchdown as Gaven Vance was able to score a touchdown, but was also able to make the play of the game for Bonduel as he made a ridiculous one handed grab with a defender on him. The Clippers went down by a score of 34-0 at the half.

Sturgeon Bay was able to gain some momentum throughout the course of the 3rd quarter, but were unable to make any points of it, as they committed 4 turnovers throughout the game. Coach Carl Waterstreet said after the game it felt like the Clippers were “playing against themselves out there.”

Late in the fourth quarter, the two teams were able two swap touchdowns as backup running back Ben Letter got into the endzone for the Bears, and David Zuehlke broke the scoreless game for the Clippers with a rushing touchdown with 1:00 remaining.

The player of the game was Mason Sacotte, with a fumble recovery on the defensive end, and David Zuehlke once again with a rushing touchdown.

The Clippers will look to enter the win column again as they will return home to host the Marinette Marines. Quinn Struck and Gary Barta will once again have the call on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2 and NewRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Sturgeon Bay looks to get back on track on 103.3 The Clipper

The first conference game in 4 seasons for the Clippers will be a trip to Bonduel where they will have a matchup with the Bears of Bonduel.

Sturgeon Bay (1-1), is fresh off of a close and hard fought loss to the Antigo Red Robins 21-14. The Clippers were unable to hold off the running attack of Antigo, as they were able to run for 203 yards on Sturgeon Bay, led by Alec Knapkavage with 111 yards of his own. The offense of the Clippers struggled to get anything going, with Kordell Anderson providing a spark on a kickoff return, but not much else done on the ground or through the air. The offense will look to get right back on track against the Bears.

Bonduel is also 1-1 on the season, after winning their Week one game over Cuba City 39-14, but ultimately falling to the Cougars of Coleman 22-15. After being conference champions in the shortened 2020 covid football season, the Bears took a dip in production last year, going 5-6 overall and 5-2 in the Packerland conference. The offense for the Bears ride on the backs of Quarterback Noah Weier and Running Back Louis Hrabik. The Bears will look to sink the Clippers, as the winning team puts themselves in a good spot for a conference title position, while the other looks to gain some ground after the first week.

Quinn Struck and Gary Barta will have the call from Bonduel on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2 and NewRadioSportsNetwork.com

Two conference contenders clash as Sturgeon Bay hosts Sevastopol

A matchup of two teams looking to dethrone Oconto as the Packerland champs will face off at Sturgeon Bay as the Clippers will face off against the Pioneers of Sevastopol.

The Clippers finished 4th in the Packerland Conference last season, but could be the one team that surprises some people this season. A 3-0 loss to Reedsville in their triangular saw Sturgeon Bay get off to a slow start, but could compete with the best in the Packerland.

Sevastopol saw themselves finish with a second place finish behind Oconto last season, and a 29-8 record overall. The Pioneers were regional champions, and will look to make an even further run this season. Off to a 5-4 start in tournaments this season, they have been challenged by competitive teams and have made the best of their matchups.

First serve is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
