Sturgeon Bay cross-country runs in Preble meet

Sturgeon Bay will head a little further west into Green Bay than many other local teams will on Thursday in time for their second cross country meet of the season.

 

The Clippers run against Bonduel, Manitowoc Lutheran, Omro, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan North, Green Bay Preble, NEWCHAA (Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletic Associaton), and Providence Academy (Green Bay) at Green Bay's Josten Park beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay soccer looks to stay perfect in conference on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team puts its early successful start on the line Thursday night when Algoma takes the pitch against them on Thursday night at Clark Field.

 

The Clippers have gone 1-0-2 since their opening night loss to Notre Dame, including a clean sheet against fellow Packerland rival Kewaunee. In their last game, Kayden Klotz scored on a header and Ben Stephens delivered on a penalty kick to preserve a 2-2 draw against Kiel on Monday.

 

The Wolves are yet to score a goal this season after being shut out by Gibraltar/Sevastopol 5-0 in the season opener and 2-0 by Luxemburg-Casco after a lengthy weather delay last week. 

 

Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the call from Sturgeon Bay beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening touch at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on U-102.1 and stream worldwide at u1021.com and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Clippers Soccer play tough to a draw against Kiel Monday night on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers Soccer team battled the Raiders Monday night at Clark Field in a back-and-forth battle that led to a 2-2 draw. The Raiders were first to score on a cross when Sawyer Moore found the back of the net in the 5th minute. Four minutes later Kayden Klotz was able to tie the game with a header of his own (1-1). Sawyer Moore would give the Raiders the lead in the 15th minute off a mishandled freekick (2-1). Then, Ben Stephens would take the PK after Carter Schulz (Big E) would take a direct kick from about 30 yards out and the Raiders committed a handball penalty in the box. The score was 2-2 at halftime and that's where it would remain for the rest of the game. The Clippers played down a man but still played strong after Starr picked up a second Yellow card in the 71st minute.  The Clippers will be at Home against Algoma on Thursday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. and coverage will be on U-102.1. 

Clippers golf heads to Seymour

The Sturgeon Bay golf team hits the links on Tuesday to face its Bay Conference opponents.

 

In their last time out, the Clippers squeezed in nine holes in Oconto on Friday as a part of a scramble event. The team of Layla Stai/Keira Wesley shot a 55, Hayden Montevideo/Lauren Meacham scored a 62, Merrill Kelsey/Sayde Jeanquart registered a team-best 48.

 

Bonduel, Green Bay/New Lutheran/Providence Academy, Oconto, Shawano Community, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Xavier will join the Clippers at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour at 10 a.m.

Clippers volleyball to battle three teams in Seymour

The Sturgeon Bay volleyball team visits Seymour on Tuesday for a quadrangular meet against the host school, Little Chute, and Pulaski. 

 

This is close to the first action the Clippers have had this season while Little Chute has split its eight matches, the Red Raiders have dropped six of their first seven matches, and the Thunder have lost two of their first three matches. 

 

The Clippers welcome back All-Packerland performers Nida Zukauskaite andChloe Maccaux to the fold for the 2023 season.

 

The first matches begin at 5 p.m. in Seymour.

Sturgeon Bay football comes up short in Antigo

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers had it in Antigo territory with a chance to win the game, but ultimately could not convert in its 20-15 loss last Friday.

 

Danny Lodl gave it his best effort, throwing the ball 47 times for two touchdowns and an interception while encompassing 276 yards. It ended up being a second quarter touchdown by the Red Robins that led to the Clippers' first loss of the season.

 

Sturgeon Bay will be at home against Bonduel this Friday night.

Sturgeon Bay soccer welcomes Kiel on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers hit the pitch again on Monday night to battle Kiel.

 

Last Friday's game between Sturgeon Bay and Bay Port looked more like a battle on the Seven Seas than a soccer match, but it ended in a 0-0 draw. Much of the match took place in the midfield area, but it was the Pirates that were able to generate more offensive chances on the night. Ozzy Langfield stood tall in this one, collecting six saves on the evening.

 

The Raiders are 2-0-0 on the season and are yet to give up a goal on the season. Their offense has been impressive as well, beating Gibraltar/Sevastopol 5-0 and Omro 8-0 in their two matches.

Clippers, Pirates battle weather to scoreless draw

Friday's game between Sturgeon Bay and Bay Port looked more like a battle on the Seven Seas than a soccer match, but it ended in a 0-0 draw.

 

The two teams agreed to move the match up 15 minutes to avoid the major storms that would hit the area later. While much of the match took place in the midfield area, the Pirates were able to generate more offensive chances on the night. Ozzy Langfield stood tall in this one, collecting six saves on the evening.

Clippers golfers scramble in Oconto

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers golf team squeezed in nine holes in Oconto on Friday as a part of a scramble event.

 

The team of Layla Stai/Keira Wesley shot a 55, Hayden Montevideo/Lauren Meacham scored a 62, Merrill Kelsey/Sayde Jeanquart registered a team-best 48.

 

The meet also featured Luxemburg-Casco, Bonduel, and Oconto.

Kurek picks up where she left off for Clippers cross country

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers opened their cross country season with their traditional trip up north to race in the Chief Kahquados Invitational in Fish Creek.

 

Julia Kurek opened her season on a strong, finishing the 5K course with a personal best of 21:10 Selle Luke paced the boys with a personal-best of 24:18.

Sturgeon Bay shuts down Kewaunee, battles Bay Port on The Pirate

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team will return to non-conference play after beating Kewaunee 3-0 in a Thursday night match.

 

It was the rebound match the Clippers needed after falling hard to state-power Notre Dame Academy 6-1 earlier in the week. No scoring summary was provided.

 

The Clippers now turn their attention to Bay Port, No scores were posted from the Pirates' scheduled matches against Appleton West and Green Bay East. The Pirates finished on top of the Fox River Classic Conference table last season but ended up losing to Arrowhead 1-0 in the regional final. 

 

Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the call on The Pirate (96.7 WBDK HD-2 and 103.3 FM) beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show, followed by the opening kick at 6:30 p.m.

Clippers fall to Tritons at home, face Kewaunee on Thursday

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team got off to a challenging start on Tuesday, falling to fellow state-power Notre Dame 6-1 at Clark Field. 

 

The Clippers will play two more times at home this week, including Thursday's match against conference foe Kewaunee. This will be the Storm's first game of the season as they look to snap a losing streak that stretches back to last year when they beat Washington Island. Outside of that match, the team has not won since their season opener at Green Bay West in 2021.

 

The first kick is set for 6:30 p.m. at Clark Field

 

The Clippers will also face Division 1 opponent Bay Port on Friday night at Clark Field. Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the call on The Pirate (96.7 HD-2 and 103.3 FM) beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pre-game show followed by the first kick at 6:30 p.m.

Clippers' Kelsey leads way on golf course

Sturgeon Bay's two girls' golfers welcomed the Bay Conference to Cherry Hills Golf Course on Tuesday.

 

Junior Merrill Kelsey led the way for the Clippers, shooting a team-best 68 on the course to finish in 30th place. Junior Sayde Jeanquart came in 34th place as she shot a 77. Shawano's Sophia Eggert won the meet as she shot a 42 on the nine-hole course while Xavier won as a team, shooting a 193 with three players in the top five overall. 

Clippers soccer open campaign against Notre Dame Academy

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team opens their 2023 campaign against a perennial state power on Tuesday night when Notre Dame Academy makes the trip from Green Bay.

 

The Clippers finished last year 14-10-2 as they battled their usual tough slate while still winning the Packerland Conference and their regional before falling to Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran 1-0 in the sectional final. They graduated all eight of their All-Packerland performers from a year ago. 

 

The Tritons finished last season 19-1-4, suffering their only loss of the season in the state title game against New Berlin Eisenhower 1-0. The team will have to replace a lot of their star players from last year as only one of its seven All-Fox River Classic Conference performers, midfielder Keegan Maxfield, returns to the roster.

 

Kickoff from Clark Field is set for 6:30 p.m.

Clippers golf hosts Bay Conference Tuesday

The Sturgeon Bay golf team will play their second match in as many days on Tuesday, but this time they will be in their own backyard.

 

The Clippers will welcome Bonduel, Green Bay/New Lutheran/Providence Academy, Oconto, Seymour, Shawano Community, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Xavier to Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay for a 10 a.m. tee time. 

 

The girls were in Bonduel on Monday, but no score was reported.

Clipper golf tees off at Bonduel Monday

The girls’ golf team from Sturgeon Bay High School will hit the links on Monday for a multiple-team competition at Bonduel. 

The Clippers will play against the host school Bonduel and seven other teams including NEW Lutheran, Oconto, Seymour, Shawano, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Xavier. 

Clippers ride big plays to opening night victory on U102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers open their season in a powerful way, coming away with a 52-22 victory over the Waupun Warriors in Sturgeon Bay.  The story of the first half was offense as the Clippers used three passing touchdowns by Danny Lodl. Two were caught by Bryce Plzak and one by Kordell Anderson. The Clippers added a rushing touchdown by Braylon LaRouch to jump to a 28-6 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Clipper offense would not see the field until nearly 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter as they found other ways to score. Kordell Anderson scored on a Punt Return, Kraven Lautenbach added a Pick Six, and Chase Hasenjager returned a fumble for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff to jump to a 46-14 lead.  Teams would swap scores the rest of the way. 

The Clippers will travel to Antigo Friday August 25th to take on the Red Robins in a non-conference matchup.  

 

 

Sturgeon Bay football opens with home cooking against Waupun on U 102.1

The long wait is over for Sturgeon Bay football players as they open their 2023 campaign at home against Waupun.

 

The Clippers were welcomed back to 11-player football last year with a 5-5 record. Their local rivals sent the Clippers packing last season as they adjusted to life without its star quarterback Danny Lodl, who was lost for the season in late September with a scary leg injury. They went 0-3 against Southern Door and Kewaunee, losing by a combined score of 161-20. The results did not indicate how potent their offense could be, cracking 40 points in four of their five wins.

 

The Warriors lost their final seven games after defeating the on-again, off-again 11-player team Menominee Indian in their season opener. Outside of that 54-point performance, the Warriors scored 24 points the rest of the way, including a streak of four games where they got shut out.

 

Jacob Nate and Reece Robillard will have the call on U 102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff from Memorial Field at 7 p.m. The game will also be streamed worldwide at u1021.com and NEWRadioSportstNetwork.com.

Sturgeon Bay golf hits the links in Shawano

The Sturgeon Bay golf team will hit the links for the second time this week when they had to Shawano on Thursday.

 

No results were shared from their meet in Oconto on Tuesday.

 

The Clippers are set to face some familiar opponents at Shawano Lake Golf Course in Bonduel, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Oconto, Seymour, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Xavier. Tee time is set for 10 a.m. weather permitting. 

Clippers golf looks to get season going Tuesday

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers girls' golf team hopes the weather holds off for them to get their match in Tuesday as they play their fellow conference opponents.

 

The Bay Conference meet featuring the Clippers, Bonduel, Green Bay/New Lutheran/Providence Academy, Seymour, Shawano Community, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Xavier is slated to take place at Vernon Hills Golf Course in Oconto. Tee time is set for 10 a.m. Sturgeon Bay did not log any scores in last week's scheduled meet.

 

In yesterday's golf action, Luxemburg-Casco saw its conference meet get postponed due to the rainstorm that came through the area. It has been rescheduled for September 5th.

Boys soccer hit the pitch Monday

Sturgeon Bay, Luxemburg-Casco, Washington Island, Algoma, Kewaunee, and Gibraltar/Sevastopol, Monday is the start of a possible trip to Milwaukee on Monday.

 

That's when they can begin official workouts ahead of their first matches on August 22nd in some cases. Sturgeon Bay will look to prove why they've been the class of the region for several years as the area's top performer last season. The Clippers finished at the top of the Packerland table last en route to a sectional final appearance. Gibraltar/Sevastopol dealt the Clippers their lone conference loss last season, but they joined Algoma, Kewaunee, and Luxemburg-Casco with records under .500 on the year. Washington Island played mostly JV squads, but they were able to pick up several wins on their tour of the area.

Girls golf opens fall sports season

For the first time since June, local high school teams will get their competitive juices flowing again for regular season action, this time with two local squads hitting the links.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans open their season in Oconto Falls on Thursday when they battle Bonduel, Marinette, NEW Lutheran, Oconto Falls, and Sturgeon Bay at River Island Golf Course. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.

 

The Clippers are also on the schedule to travel to Winneconne's Lakebreeze Golf Course to face the host school, Bonduel, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Oconto, Seymour, Shawano Community, West De Pere, and Xavier. Tee time is set for 12:30 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay basketball to host camp

New Sturgeon Bay head basketball coach Zach Goblisch is wasting no time getting acquainted with local youth on the hardwood. 

 

Late last month, Goblisch announced the 2023 Boys Basketball Fast Break Camp, which welcomes students from grades 3rd-8th to participate in the inaugural camp on August 19th and 20th. Players will have the opportunity to learn the essential dribbling, passing, and shooting fundamentals from the players and coaches of the Sturgeon Bay Boys Basketball Team.
