Clippers soccer shut down United

A strong northeast wind made playing conditions challenging for both teams Tuesday night at Sevastopol High School. Balls in the air were unpredictable, and early in the game, both teams struggled to possess the ball and build their attack. Still, SBHS’s Malaya Martinez (assisted by Riley Anderson) found the back of the net in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Our defense won the ball in the middle of the field, and Riley made a dagger pass to Malaya, who made a few moves to break open for a shot.

A stubborn United team continued to battle, but in the 70th minute, a foul by the United team in the box resulted in a penalty kick. Again, Malaya Martinez found the back of the net, and SB had its second goal.

We worked very hard over the past week to prepare for this game. It was good to see our players succeed and possess the ball in the attacking third of the field. In addition, our defense limited the United attacks and did not allow a shot on goal the entire game. That unit plays well together with the team. With the win, SB is 1-0 in conference play and 1-4 overall. Next up for the Clippers is NEW Lutheran in Green Bay.
