Clippers soccer double up Bulldogs

Sturgeon Bay got a huge conference win on the road to close its conference play at 3-2-1. Peshtigo’s Audra Bauman scored in the 32nd minute to put the Bulldogs up 1-0, which was the score at halftime. In the second half, Sturgeon Bay’s Malaya Martinez's 20-yard smash in the 68th minute tied the game at 1-1. With the game on the line, both teams mounted attacks and pushed for a game-winning goal, but it would be Malaya Martinez’s goal in the final minute that would give Sturgeon Bay the victory, 2-1.

“The coaches have our Sectional Seeding meeting tomorrow, and a win for either team will make a big difference in our seed. I’m super proud we found a way to win this one. Our players showed a lot of determination on the pitch tonight. Peshtigo is a hard team to beat on their pitch. Malaya’s goal in the final minute was electrifying and reminds us all …. We have to play for 80 minutes … games can be won or lost in that final minute.”

With the win, Sturgeon Bay is 7-10-2.  Next up for the Clippers is Roncalli in Manitowoc next Tuesday.
