The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team headed south on Monday and picked up a 2-1 win over Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah.
Shambo Wienke scored in the 7th minute to put the Clippers up 1-0. After the score, Elkhart Lake’s defense tightened up and kept it close. In the second half, Elkhart gathered a corner kick ball that deflected to tie the score at 1-1.
“It was one of those corner kicks that bounces off 4 or 5 players and finds a crazy way into the goal. It’s very difficult for a keeper to track down,” Desotelle said postgame.
Elkhart Lake was creating some chances early in the second half, so the Clippers had to retake the momentum. The momentum did switch when Yarrow Goettelman scored on a direct kick from 30 yards out.
“Yarrow’s back post bomb was a game changer," Desotelle remarked. "The keeper had no chance to defend that ball.”
The Clippers dominated possession late in the game to seal the win. Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had 4 saves in the win.
Up next for the Clippers is a conference showdown at Peshtigo on Thursday.
