Gamblers complete sweep of Sioux City in penalty-filled 5–2 win

The Green Bay Gamblers capped off a heated weekend series with Sioux City by powering to a 5-2 victory Saturday night at the Resch Center, completing the two-game sweep behind another strong offensive showing and a steady goaltending tandem effort.

The game was dominated by scoring bursts and an avalanche of penalties but Green Bay again maintained control from start to finish.

David Rozsíval opened the scoring midway through the first, burying his 10th of the season off feeds from Lukas Hafele and Dylan Timm to give Green Bay a 1–0 lead after one.

The second period brought both scoring separation and chaos. Green Bay stretched the lead to 3-0 with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. First a power-play strike from Nate O’Sullivan, then a rebound finish from Victor Samuelsson. Sioux City finally got on the board with a late power-play tally, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into the third.

Green Bay wasted no time rebuilding its cushion as the third period opened. Just 20 seconds in, Hafele ripped home his seventh of the year to make it 4-1, and Joe Wooten added a power-play finish at 4:37 for a commanding 5-1 advantage. Sioux City scored once more at 7:09, but never threatened the outcome.

With the game spiraling into frequent scrums and multiple misconducts, the Gamblers leaned on disciplined finishing and strong goaltending. A.J. Henriquez stopped all six shots he faced before exiting due to penalties assessed in the second-period melee, while Tomas Slavick closed the door with 13 saves on 15 attempts to secure the win.

Green Bay outshot Sioux City 35-21, went 2-for-7 on the power play, and held the Musketeers to just 1-for-8 on their chances.

The victory improves the Gamblers to back-to-back wins on the weekend, outscoring Sioux City 10–2 across the two-game set as they continue to surge heading into December at home.

Phoenix men blow past Fighting Indians

Preston Ruedinger's career-high 30 points helped the Green Bay Phoenix score the 95-55 win over Haskell Indian Nations Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix used their size and their athletic ability to jump out to an early 9-0 lead and keep the Fighting Indians at a distance for much of the game. They outrebounded the Fighting Indians 48-22 and shot 23 percentage points better from the field (56 percent to 33 percent). Ruedinger played his part to help the Phoenix extend their 39-26 halftime advantage to more than 40 points at points of the second half, scoring 20 of his 30 points after the break.

Joining Ruedinger in double figures were Ramel Bethea's career-high 15 points and C.J. O'Hara's 13 points. Trey Gains (17 points), Ryan Hawkins (11 points), and Evan Puryear (10 points) led the Fighting Indians in scoring.

The Phoenix are back in action on Thursday when they open Horizon League play against the defending conference champions Robert Morris University on the road at 6 p.m.

Gamblers blank Sioux City behind explosive first period, Slavick's shutout

The Green Bay Gamblers dominated from start to finish Friday night at the Resch Center, rolling to a 5-0 shutout over the Sioux City Musketeers behind a four-goal first period and a stellar performance from goaltender Tomas Slavick.

Green Bay wasted no time taking control. Dylan Knutson opened the scoring just 3:11 into the game, and the Gamblers never looked back. Cam Conboy added his third of the season minutes later before Marco Carcone extended the lead to 3-0 on the power play at 10:02. Conboy struck again on another man advantage late in the frame, making it 4-0 after 20 minutes.

The physical tone of the game escalated quickly, with Sioux City piling up penalty minutes, including a double minor and multiple misconducts, but Green Bay stayed composed, striking twice on six power-play opportunities.

After a scoreless second period, the Gamblers pushed the lead to 5-0 early in the third when Carcone buried his second of the night off a setup from Conboy and Daniil Fedotov.

From there, it was all Slavick. The Green Bay netminder turned aside all 31 shots he faced, securing his first shutout of the season and improving to 8-5-2-0. The Gamblers matched Sioux City with 35 shots of their own, but their early surge proved to be the difference.

With the win, Green Bay extends its hot streak and continues climbing the standings heading into the back half of the weekend.

Slow start dooms Phoenix women

A 21-7 first-quarter deficit proved to be too much for the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team to overcome in a 76-59 loss to Richmind in Friday's Cancun Challenge action.

It was not until the fourth quarter that the Phoenix could trim the deficit, outscoring the Spiders 19-15 in the final stanza. The Spiders did their damage behind the arc, making 14 three-pointers compared to just five for the Phoenix. They also registered four more assists (15-11) and grabbed eight more rebounds (34-26). Jenna Guyer led the Phoenix with 16 points off the bench while Maddy Skorupski added 11 points in the loss. The Spiders, meanwhile, had four players reach double figures, including 25 points from Maggie Doogan.

The Phoenix will begin Horizon League play next Thursday when they play Northern Kentucky on the road before returning to the Kress Events Center to battle Youngstown State.

Phoenix women fall late to Wolfpack

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team kept the ACC power close but was unable to close the gap in a 79-67 loss to North Carolina State on Thursday in Cancun.

After being outscored 22-14 in the first quarter, the Phoenix whittled down the advantage over the following two quarters, eventually getting the game to within one point with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. The size and speed of the Wolfpack showed up again late as they outscored the Phoenix 21-10 from that point on to hand the Phoenix the loss in Canun Challenge.

Gracie Grzesk finished the game with a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers in the game, with Jenna Guyer adding 15 points off the bench, and Carley Duffney registering 10 points in the loss. Zoe Brooks was one of three Wolfpack players to reach double figures with 21 points.

The Phoenix women are back in action Friday night when they face Richmond at 8 p.m. The Spiders, which are receiving votes in the AP Poll, will face eighth-ranked TCU before facing the Phoenix.

Packers roast Lions in Thanksgiving clash

The Green Bay Packers head into a mini-bye week on a mini-winning streak after beating the Detroit Lions 31-24 on Thursday.

A first-quarter field goal by Brandon McManus proved to be the difference in the first half with the two teams trading touchdowns in the second quarter courtesy of Jordan Love's arm and scores on the ground and through the air for the Lions.

The winning score ended up being in the third quarter with the Packers forcing a turnover on downs before Love for Christian Watson for a 51-yard score to make it 24-14. After the Lions answered with their own touchdown, Dontayvion Wicks grabbed a one-yard pass from Love to put the Packers up by 10. Wicks would come through in the end as he snatched a critical fourth-down pass late in the game to allow the Packers to go into victory formation for the rest of the game.

Love's completion percentage was down, but he ended up throwing for 234 yards and four touchdowns while Josh Jacobs rushed for 83 yards in his return to the line-up. Micah Parsons was a pest against the Lions, registering 2.5 sacks and numerous pressures to go with his eight total tackles, which was tied for second on the team.

The Packers will get some extra time to rest and prepare before their NFC North Tour continues with a home game against the Chicago Bears on December 7th.

Rozsíval lifts Gamblers to third straight win with two-goal night

The Green Bay Gamblers extended their winning streak to three games Wednesday night, edging the Chicago Steel 2-1 at the Resch Center behind another standout performance from forward Matouš Rozsíval.

Chicago struck first on a power-play goal from Filip Kazda midway through the opening period, the only puck to beat Green Bay netminder Tomas Slavick, who remained poised the rest of the way with 22 saves on 23 shots.

The Gamblers responded early in the second when Rozsíval buried his eighth of the season off a setup from Simon Hafele, tying the game and shifting momentum toward Green Bay.

With the score still locked 1-1 in the third, it was Rozsíval again delivering the difference-maker. The 18-year-old punched in his ninth of the season at 6:46, finishing a play created by Hafele and Liam Gulley to give the Gamblers their first lead of the night.

Green Bay held strong through a penalty-heavy final frame, including matching majors after a fight midway through the period. Despite limited third-period shots, the Gamblers’ defensive structure tightened, and Slavick turned away everything Chicago threw at him.

Green Bay outshot the Steel 28-23, though Chicago held the lone power-play goal of the night. The Gamblers went 0-for-3 on the man advantage but found enough 5-on-5 offense to secure the win.

With the victory, the Gamblers improve to 7-5-2-0 and continue building momentum heading into the weekend.

His best season came in 2022 when he earned 2nd Team All-SouthEastern Conference honors after recording 60 catches for 776 yards and 9 touchdowns. In a corresponding move, kicker Lucas Havrasik has been released.

Phoenix men leave Paradise with winning streak

For the first time in the Doug Gottlieb era, the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team has won two game in a row after closing their Paradise Jam residency with an 80-75 win over Iona.

The two teams traded extended runs in the first half with the Phoenix taking a brief lead thanks to a 10-0 run only to see the Gaels take it right by 8-0 run of their own. Trailing 36-33 at the break that got extended out to 41-33 in the opening minutes of the second half, the Phoenix scored eight consecutive points to tie the game. After the team traded baskets, Justin Allen took over for the Phoenix with eight consecutive points en route to a game-high 28 points to give the team a lead they would not give up despite strong efforts by the Gaels to do so.

Three other Phoenix players cracked double-figures in the fourth-place game including  C.J. O'Hara adding 17 points, Mac Wrecke contributing 14 points off the bench, and Caden Wilkins tacking on 10 points. It was the second straight game the Phoenix had to survive without Marcus Hall. The Gaels boasted five players in double figures, including 14 points from Lamin Sabally.

The Phoenix men return home on Saturday to host Haskell Indian Nations at the Kress Center at 1 p.m.

Injury reports full for Packers/Lions game Thursday

The length of the injury reports for the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions read like that of an emergency room just days before the two teams meet at Ford Field for their Thanksgiving matchups.

The Packers have 16 players on the injury list with Karl Brooks (Ankle), Keisean Nixon (Neck), Lukas Van Ness (Foot), and Savion Williams (Foot) listed as non-participants. The Lions have their own issues with 15 players on the injury list, four of which are listed as non-participants. Neither team had true practices on Monday, so participation designations for that day are based on estimations.

You can read the full injury report here.

Phoenix men wrap up Paradise Jam against Iona

The Green Bay Phoenix will soak up the sun for one more day on Monday when they wrap up their weekend residency on the U.S. Virgin Islands with a final Paradise Jam matchup against Iona.

The Phoenix leaned on two major contributors, C.J. O’Hara and Justin Allen, to knock off Massachusetts 79–75 on Saturday at the Paradise Jam. Allen delivered a massive spark off the bench, scoring 27 points on 7-13 shooting and a perfect 12-12 at the stripe. O’Hara, steady all season, added 21 points on an efficient 7-11 from the field while logging heavy minutes once again.

The Gaels have also split their two Paradise Jam games, losing to Akron 95-76 before beating Oregon State 91-84 in overtime. Leading the way this season are Toby Harris and Lamin Sabally, who both reached double figures against the Beavers in their last game.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

Packers run past Vikings

The Green Bay Packers controlled the pace from the opening snap as they beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday 23-6 in front of its Lambeau Field faithful.

After the Vikings took their first possession down the field for a long field goal, the Packers answered with a long drive that was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by  Emmanuel Wilson. After the two teams traded field goals in the second quarter, the Packers took advantage of a muffed punt with a second Wilson touchdown before Brandon McManus capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter with two more field goals.

Jordan Love did not need to do much with an offensive game plan focused on the running game. He went 14/21 for 139 yards while Wilson ran the ball 28 times for 107 yards. The defense made it hard for rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy to get comfortable, sacking him five times and picking him off twice. Micah Parsons and Devonte Wyatt each had two sacks while Evan Williams and Isaiah McDuffie registered the interceptions.

The Packers will now quickly prepare for their Turkey Day matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Schultz paces Phoenix with double-double in gritty win over Kansas State

Redshirt sophomore Meghan Schultz continued to anchor Green Bay’s offense, posting a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the Phoenix past Kansas State 47-44 on Saturday.

The Wildcats leaned heavily on Nastja Claessens, the Belgium native who poured in 21 of K-State’s 44 points on 9-for-18 shooting before exiting with an injury in the final minute.

Green Bay built its advantage slowly in a defensive battle, taking a 23-16 lead into halftime behind timely shooting and disciplined execution.

Maddy Skorupski added a steady 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting and knocked down three of her four free throws. Kamy Peppler chipped in 8 points, including two key threes in the first quarter that sparked the Phoenix to a 12-8 lead after one and set the tone early.

Defense ultimately carried Green Bay across the finish line. The Phoenix held Kansas State to just 31.1% from the field and 8.7% from three, limiting second-chance opportunities and keeping pressure on the Wildcats throughout. While UWGB didn’t shoot much better themselves, they executed late and found enough offense to secure their fifth win of the season.

Next up, Green Bay heads to Cancun, Mexico, for the Cancun Challenge, where they’ll face a major test against No. 16 NC State on Thursday at 3 p.m. CST.

Phoenix powered by O'Hara and Allen in upset win over UMass

Playing without leading scorer Marcus Hall, the Green Bay Phoenix leaned on two major contributors, C.J. O’Hara and Justin Allen, to knock off Massachusetts 79–75 on Saturday at the Paradise Jam.

Green Bay, a team that has struggled to close out tight games this season, flipped the script behind efficient offense and vastly improved free-throw shooting. The Phoenix shot 80% from the line (28-35), a major step forward after multiple games where missed free throws were the difference.

Allen delivered a massive spark off the bench, scoring 27 points on 7-13 shooting and a perfect 12-12 at the stripe. O’Hara, steady all season, added 21 points on an efficient 7-11 from the field while logging heavy minutes once again.

Green Bay took control at 15-13 and never gave the lead back. A big 10-0 run pushed the advantage to double digits, and the Phoenix entered halftime up 33-25. UMass made several pushes in the second half, but UWGB’s composure, free-throw consistency, and low-turnover finish closed the door.

Green Bay shot 49% from the field and protected the ball far better than in previous outings, helping them secure their second win of the tournament.

The Phoenix now await their final opponent in the fourth-place game. They will face the winner of Iona vs. Oregon State on Monday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. CST.

Green Bay finishes sweep of Omaha with steady 4-1 win

The Green Bay Gamblers capped off their weekend in Omaha with another strong outing, defeating the Lancers 4-1 on Saturday night to secure back-to-back wins at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

Green Bay wasted no time setting the tone. Tomas Rozsíval opened the scoring just 1:26 into the first, and Austin Gulley added a power-play strike minutes later to make it 2-0. The Gamblers took that lead into the break and never looked back.

The second period mirrored Friday’s performance: structured, opportunistic, and backed by special teams. Rozsíval netted his second of the night on the power play at 12:30, and Conboy extended the lead to 4-0 late in the period. That cushion held up the rest of the way.

Omaha broke through once in the third, but Ryan Slavick stayed locked in, stopping 24 of 25 shots for his second straight win and improving to 6-5-2 on the year.

Green Bay outshot the Lancers 35-25 and went 2-for-7 on the power play while keeping Omaha scoreless on their five chances.

With the sweep, the Gamblers continue to build momentum as they climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Packers taking on Vikings

The Green Bay Packers are gearing up to face their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, this Sunday at Lambeau Field.

The Packers, currently sitting in second place in the NFC North with a 6-3-1 record, are looking to maintain the momentum from their recent 27-20 win against the New York Giants. The Vikings will be aiming to bounce back after a narrow 19-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. During the Packers' match-up with the Giants, quarterback Jordan Love sustained a left shoulder injury late in the first quarter, which sidelined him for the entire second quarter for evaluation. Love ultimately returned in the second half, and despite reporting some lingering soreness to Head Coach Matt LeFleur, his full participation in practice suggests he will be ready for Sunday's matchup. Love finished the game with 174 passing yards and two touchdowns. While Love was briefly out, Malik Willis stepped in for a single drive, completing both of his passes for 6 yards and a touchdown, and adding 16 rushing yards. On the ground, Emmanuel Wilson contributed 40 rushing yards and a touchdown. Through the air, Christian Watson led the receiving effort with 4 receptions for 40 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Keisean Nixon was a standout with 8 solo tackles. Isaiah McDuffie was also highly active, tallying 11 total tackles, 5 of which were solo. Evan Williams contributed with 8 tackles and an interception, while Micah Parsons racked up 6 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and forced a fumble.

The kick-off is at 12:00 PM.

Gamblers roll past Omaha behind Gulley's hat trick

The Green Bay Gamblers handled business on the road Friday night, riding a hat trick from forward Jack Gulley to a 6-2 win over the Omaha Lancers at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

Green Bay wasted no time setting the tone. Gulley scored just 53 seconds into the game, and the Gamblers built a 3-1 lead after one with goals from Jakub Rozsíval and Cole Katz. Omaha’s lone answer in the period came from Markonidis at 11:02.

The Gamblers kept pressing in the second. Gulley struck again early in the frame, and Owen O’Sullivan added another late to make it 5-1. Despite a parade of penalties, Green Bay took five minors and a fighting major in the middle period, Omaha couldn’t chip away.

The Lancers made it 5-2 on an Arneson tally just 3:38 into the third, but Gulley completed the hat trick a few minutes later off a feed from Hafele and O’Malley to put the game out of reach.

Green Bay outshot Omaha 37-26, while Mason Slavick turned away 24 shots to earn the win in net. Neither team converted on the power play, going a combined 0-for-9.

With the victory, the Gamblers continued their up-and-down start to the season, but Friday’s effort was one of their more complete showings: a fast start, scoring balance, and steady defense to close it out.

UWGB falls in another close game to open Paradise Jam

Paradise Jam

UW-Green Bay dropped another tight one to open Paradise Jam play, falling 73-67 to Yale despite a strong second-half push and another big night from Marcus Hall. The Phoenix trailed by nine at the break, saw the deficit stretch to 15, and still battled back to make it a one-possession game with 29 seconds left. But forced to foul late, UWGB couldn’t get the stops they needed as Yale closed it out at the line.

For the second straight game, free throws told the story. The Phoenix went 15-24 (62.5%), while Yale finished 14-19 (73.7%). It's just a small margin, but that became the difference in a game that came down to a handful of crucial possessions.

Hall once again led UWGB with 20 points, and the Phoenix had four players in double figures. C.J. O’Hara added 15, and LeBron Thomas and Preston Ruedinger each chipped in 10.

Yale countered with balanced scoring across the board as every Bulldog who checked in contributed at least four points. Nick Townsend paced the effort with 13.

UWGB continues to search for its second win of the season after a stretch of close calls against quality opponents. The competitiveness is there, but free-throw struggles have kept the Phoenix from finishing tight contests.

Green Bay is back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST against UMass.

Leading the scoring effort were Presenton Ruedinger and Marcus Hall, both with 15 points. Ruedinger also contributed 6 assists and was clutch in regulation, scoring 5 points in the final minutes to force overtime. Hall added 4 rebounds. CJ O’Hara chipped in 11 points and led the team with 8 rebounds. Justin Allen rounded out the key contributors with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and a team-high 2 steals.

Gamblers hitting the road for back-to-back against Lancers

The Green Bay Gamblers are scheduled for back-to-back road games this Friday and Saturday, facing the Omaha Lancers at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The goal-scorers included Geno Carcone, Elliot Gulley, Gunnar Conboy, Gavin Katz, and Zach Wooten, who netted two goals. The game-winning goal came from Gavin Katz in the shootout, after Joey Slavick stopped all three attempts by the Rough Riders. Slavick earned the win, recording 33 saves on 39 shots. Following his strong performance over the weekend, which included five goals, Zach Wooten was named USHL Forward of the Week.

Saturday’s game begins at 6:05 PM.

Blizzard roster updates

The Green Bay Blizzard continues to strengthen their roster as the 2026 IFL season approaches. The team has resigned wide receiver Tarrell Carey for his second season in the IFL. The 6'0", 200 lb receiver began his collegiate career at the University of Northern Iowa before transferring to UW-Oshkosh. Following college, Carey played a season with the Cedar Rapids Titans of the American Indoor Football (AIF). He earned his spot on the Blizzard roster last year after attending an open try-out, playing in three games as a wide receiver and on special teams. Green Bay has also added running back Sammy Malignaggi, who will be entering his rookie season in the IFL. Malignaggi played three seasons at James Madison University before finishing his collegiate career at Campbell University. Blizzard coaches were reportedly impressed by Malignaggi's athletic versatility and his quick ability to adapt to new offensive schemes.

Blakelee Bastien fell to Tristan North (West Allis Nathan Hale) in a decision to take fourth place. Phoenix women see lead evaporate, fall short against Badgers

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team saw their fortunes flip nearly twice in a 76-72 loss to Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Phoenix started out hot, outscoring the Badgers 25-15 in the opening frame. The Badgers responded with their own hot shooting and tough defense in the second quarter, outscoring their guests 21-12 to trim their deficit to one point at the break. Both teams would go on their runs in the third and fourth quarters with the Badgers leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter before the Phoenix narrowed but never closing the deficit on the road.

Meghan Schultz once again led the Phoenix with 22 points while Kamy Peppler added a season-high 15 points Carley Duffney chipped in with 11 points. The Badgers countered with Destiny Howell's 23 points. Breauna Ware and Kyrah Daniels scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The road does not get any easier for the Phoenix, though at least they will have the hosting duties on Saturday when they welcome Kansas State to the Kress Events Center for a 1 p.m. matinee before heading out of the country for the holidays with a Cancun Challenge matchup against North Carolina State.

Packers survive trip to Meadowlands with win

The Green Bay Packers were able to break a two-game skid ahead of a busy stretch of NFC North matchups with a 27-20 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

The game got off to another ominous tone with the Giants marching down the field with Jameis Winston behind center, ending the opening drive with a five-yard touchdown run from Devin Singletary. The Packers did respond with two touchdowns of their own thanks to Malik Willis coming in relief of an injured Jordan Love to throw a dart to Christian Watson to make 7-6 and Emmanuel Wilson doing the same for an injured Josh Jacobs on an 11-yard touchdown run. Thanks to both teams missing an extra point attempt thanks to windy conditions at MetLife Stadium, the Giants tied the game late on another Singletary run to make 13-13 at the break.

With a lack of faith for their field goal kickers, the teams traded touchdowns in the second half. Josh Whyle caught his first touchdown pass as a Packer to open the scoring before Jameis Winston responded with a quarterback sneak for a score to make it 20-19 midway through the fourth quarter.  On a day where the entire corps struggled with drops, it was the wide receivers for the Packers that came through in the end. A 33-yard acrobatic catch by Savion Williams set up a 17-yard strike to Watson from Love for the game-winning score. The Packers' secondary had their own case of the drops to deal with, but Evan Williams' interception with 36 seconds left essentially wrapped things up with a Micah Parsons sack being the last play of the game.

Love ended up throwing for 174 yards and two scores despite injuring his left shoulder with Watson and Romeo Doubs each recording four catches. Jacobs and Wilson combined for 80 of the team's 128 rushing yards.

Phoenix push Minnesota to the brink at The Barn as they fall in OT

Green Bay walked into Williams Arena, nicknamed "The Barn," as heavy underdogs but almost pulled a March Madness level upset, forcing overtime in a 72-65 loss to Minnesota that hinged on one glaring theme: missed free throws.

UWGB led 27-23 at halftime and controlled long stretches defensively after falling behind 8-2 early. Once the Phoenix switched up their defensive look, the game slowed to their pace, and Minnesota struggled to find rhythm from the field.

The chaos ramped up in the final minute of regulation and free throws kept UWGB in the game, but decided their fate in overtime. Minnesota went 20-for-39 while Green Bay was 15-for-24.

Minnesota’s Cade Tyson, who finished with a game-high 27, missed three free throws in the closing seconds, leaving the door cracked for UWGB. Preston Ruedinger scored eight of Green Bay’s final 12 in regulation. He delivered the moment of the night with a bucket high off the glass to tie the game at 61-61 with 1.9 seconds left.

Minnesota’s Chansey Willis Jr. launched a heave from beyond half court that was good, but the celebration was short-lived as it came after the clock hit zero.

The Phoenix nearly stole it after pushing to OT, but Jaylen Crocker-Johnson took over for the Gophers with a personal 5-0 run after the teams were tied at 63. UWGB wouldn't be able to recover. Crocker-Johnson finished with a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds), sealing the Gophers' escape.

Ruedinger led Green Bay late and knocked down two huge threes, finishing with 15 points alongside Marcus Hall, who also scored 15. The Phoenix shot 40.7 percent from the field compared to Minnesota’s 41.8, and turnovers hurt—UWGB had 14 to the Gophers’ eight.

Green Bay hasn’t beaten a major-conference team since Dec. 6, 2014 (Miami), a streak that now sits at 33 games. But Saturday night at "The Barn", the Phoenix made Minnesota earn everything, showing they’re much closer to breaking through than anyone expected.

Gamblers win wild 7 to 6 shootout over Cedar Rapids

Green Bay survived a chaotic, high scoring night at the Resch Center on Saturday, outlasting Cedar Rapids 7 to 6 in a shootout to earn an important home win in front of over four thousand fans. The Gamblers and RoughRiders combined for nine goals in the second and third periods alone before Evan Katz delivered the only goal of the shootout to seal the victory.

Cedar Rapids struck quickly when Musa scored just fifty four seconds into the game, but Green Bay settled in and tied it at 11:35 on a goal from Christian Carcone. The opening period ended level at 1 to 1 after late matching majors sent both sides into the intermission shorthanded on the bench.

The second period turned into an offensive eruption. Cedar Rapids regained the lead at 9:08, but the Gamblers responded with four straight goals in a span of just over four minutes. Tucker Gulley buried a power play chance to tie it, Jack Wooten scored his tenth of the season shorthanded, and Caden Conboy followed with his first of the year. Katz added another at 19:04 to stretch the lead to 5 to 2 before Cedar Rapids answered twenty seconds later to cut the margin to 5 to 3 entering the third.

The RoughRiders did not go away. Romeo scored at 1:52 of the third and Musa added another just one second later, stunning the crowd and tying the game at 5 to 5. Wooten collected his second of the night midway through the period to briefly restore the Green Bay lead, but Cedar Rapids answered again at 15:28 to bring the game to 6 to 6.

After a scoreless overtime, the shootout belonged to Green Bay. Katz scored on the opening attempt and goaltender Matthew Slavick stopped all three RoughRiders shooters to close out the win. Slavick finished with 33 saves on 39 shots in one of his busiest nights of the season.

Wooten led the Gamblers with two goals, while Gulley, Carcone, Conboy, and Katz all added one each. Green Bay finished 1 for 2 on the power play and held Cedar Rapids scoreless on their two opportunities.

It's another one in the win column for Green Bay in what has been an up and down first month. The Gamblers return to action next week as they continue their homestand and look to build momentum from Saturday’s high scoring victory.

Wooten hat trick not enough in loss to Cedar Rapids

The Green Bay Gamblers couldn’t overcome a surge of Cedar Rapids offense on Friday night, falling 5-3 at the Resch Center despite a hat trick from Jimmy Wooten.

Wooten was the story of the night for Green Bay, striking three times for his 7th, 8th, and 9th goals of the season. He opened the scoring on the power play just 3:42 into the first, then answered Cedar Rapids’ first equalizer less than three minutes later to put the Gamblers back in front 2-1.

Cedar Rapids had an answer of its own, taking control in the second period with three goals in a five minute stretch. Green Bay briefly stole back momentum when Wooten finished off his hat trick with a shorthanded goal at 11:47, but Cedar Rapids regained the lead just 46 seconds later and added another on the power play to go up 4-3.

The Gamblers never found their footing in the third. Cedar Rapids scored early to extend the lead to 5-3 and then the final 12 minutes turned into a parade to the penalty box. Multiple major penalties and misconducts on both sides slowed the game to a crawl, but Green Bay couldn’t generate a push and finished the period without a shot on goal.

Cedar Rapids outshot the Gamblers 30-21. Green Bay finished 1 for 5 on the power play and surrendered two goals on the penalty kill. Goaltender Adam Slavick made 25 saves.

Green Bay will look to regroup as the weekend continues, aiming to tighten things up defensively and build on Wooten’s performance.

Phoenix start season perfect behind another career night

The Green Bay women’s basketball team continued its perfect start to the season on Tuesday night, defeating North Dakota 67-43 at the Kress Center. Behind a dominant performance from Meghan Schultz and a suffocating defensive effort, the Phoenix stay unbeaten through three games for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

Schultz once again set the tone for the Phoenix, finishing with a career-high 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while adding six rebounds and two blocks. Carley Duffney, a transfer in her first season with Green Bay, provided a strong complement with 13 points and four assists, while Kamy Peppler added three steals to lead the defensive charge.

Despite a slow offensive start, the Phoenix found their rhythm in the second quarter outscoring the Fighting Hawks 21-15 taking a 35-30 lead into halftime. From there, Green Bay’s defense took control. UND shot just 29.2 percent from the field and 24 percent from three, struggling to find any consistency against the Phoenix pressure.

The Phoenix turned 26 North Dakota turnovers into 25 points, consistently capitalizing on transition opportunities. Green Bay also dominated inside, outscoring UND 32-16 in the paint, as the starters carried the load offensively, accounting for 61 of the team’s 67 points.

In the third quarter, the Phoenix extended their lead to double digits thanks to balanced scoring and a steady defensive presence. By the fourth, Green Bay closed the door completely outscoring UND 19-5 in the final frame and holding the Fighting Hawks without a field goal for nearly five minutes.

Green Bay shot 40 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, while converting 9-of-10 free throws. Though UND won the rebounding battle 41-34 behind 18 boards from Ava Miller, the Phoenix’s ability to force turnovers and dictate tempo made the difference.

The victory keeps Green Bay unbeaten ahead of a matchup with New Hampshire at 11 a.m. inside the Kress Center. They’ll then travel to Madison on Sunday to face Wisconsin at 2 p.m. as non-conference play continues.

WIAA and Resch Center Extend Tournament Facility Agreement

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and PMI Entertainment Group agreed to a contract extension that grants the WIAA availability of the Resch Center for hosting high school State championships in girls volleyball, boys volleyball and girls basketball through March of 2030 in an announcement made at a media conference today.

The Resch Center, opened in 2002, has been the host venue for the WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament since 2002 and the State Girls Basketball Tournament since 2013. In January of 2018, the Board of Control approved the move of the Boys Volleyball State Tournament to the Resch Center to coincide with the State Girls Volleyball Tournament in Green Bay beginning in 2019.

“It’s an exciting day as we not only kick-off a new contract, but also the start of the WIAA State Volleyball Tournament,”?Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said. “We truly feel the red carpet treatment when we come to Green Bay. It’s a great experience for everyone who attends, and the staff here at the Resch Center, Discover Green Bay and the surrounding businesses with the 'Rush to the Resch' all make these events special.”

Attendance has increased significantly at the State Girls Volleyball Tournament since the move to the Resch Center, setting a record for attendance with more than 25,500 spectators in 2024. The Girls State Basketball Tournament has averaged 36,500 spectators since moving to Green Bay.

“We want the schools and communities to have an experience that they will never forget and provide them with a once in a lifetime memory, and the Resch Center really does that,” said Brendan Bruss, President of PMI Entertainment Group.

The WIAA Tournaments have received community support to enhance attendance with the Rush to the Resch initiative. One school qualifying for the State Boys and Girls Volleyball Tournaments receives $1000 from the Green Bay Brown County Professional Football Stadium District by selling the most pre-sale tickets for the quarterfinals (girls’ Division 1 and boys) or semifinals (Divisions 2, 3, 4 and 5) in their respective divisions. In girls’ basketball, $2000 is awarded to the school in each of the five divisions with the most pre-sale tickets.

The State Girls Basketball Tournament infuses approximately $2.2 million to the Green Bay community, and the State Girls Volleyball Tournament has nearly a $1 million economic impact on the area.

“On behalf of Discover Green Bay, we are honored to host these events,” said Nick Meisner, Vice-President of Digital Marketing and Communications with Discover Green Bay. “It’s something our businesses and community really take pride in, and these events have a massive impact; so this extension is a really big deal for our community.”

Information about tickets and dinner will be released in the future. Tramon Williams began his NFL journey with the Packers in 2006. Initially signed to the practice squad as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech University, Williams defied expectations to carve out a remarkable career. He spent 10 seasons with the Packers during his 14-year career, contributing to the Packers' defense. During his tenure in Green Bay, Williams amassed 569 tackles (436 solo), 30 interceptions, 156 pass deflections, 6 forced fumbles, and 10 fumble recoveries. Williams was a key defensive player in Green Bay's Super Bowl XLV victory, playing a crucial role in their unexpected run to the wild-card game. That season, he led the NFL with a total of nine interceptions, including three in the playoffs, which tied the franchise record for a single postseason.. Joining Williams in this esteemed induction class is Earl Dotson, an offensive tackle whose entire 10-year NFL career was spent with the Green Bay Packers. Dotson was a third-round draft pick from Texas A&I (now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville). After two seasons, he solidified his position as a starter in his third year, going on to start 88 of the 120 games he played for the team. Dotson's consistent and reliable performance on the offensive line was a cornerstone of the Packers' success during his era. His time with the team saw them make 8 playoff appearances and compete in 2 Super Bowls. Notably, Dotson was a key component of the Packers' offensive line during the 1997 Super Bowl, where they secured a dominant 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots. Beyond his on-field achievements, Dotson also earned the Ed Block Courage Award. This award celebrated his courage, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment to the team, highlighting his impact both as a player and a leader.

Packers tight end Tucker Kraft out for season with torn ACL

The Green Bay Packers announced today that promising tight end Tucker Kraft will miss the remainder of the 2025 NFL season due to a torn ACL. The injury occurred during Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers at Lambeau Field. In the third quarter, Kraft went down awkwardly while blocking for running back Josh Jacobs. Following the game, Head Coach Matt LaFleur addressed the media, expressing concern about Kraft’s condition. When asked about the injury, LaFleur stated to reporters, “It doesn’t look good.” Before this season-ending injury, Kraft was having a phenomenal breakout year. Through the eight games he played, the second-year tight end led the team in receptions with 30, accumulating 469 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns. In Kraft’s absence, end Luke Musgrave is expected to step into a larger role within the Packers' offense. There has also been some speculation surrounding Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, who may make a last-minute trade before Tuesday's NFL deadline.

Phoenix basketball teams open regular season Monday

The Green Bay Phoenix men and women will hit the court for the first time this regular season on Monday after posting wins in their exhibition game tune-ups.

The Phoenix men are in Lawrence, Kan. to face national power and 19th-ranked Kansas at the Allen Fieldhouse. In their 75-48 win over St. Norbert College, the Phoenix men outscored their crosstown foes 33-17 in the first half thanks to 10 points from Marcus Hall. The Phoenix had four players score in double figures, including 13 points from Josh Hines and 10 points apiece from Marcus Hall, Maruan Cicic, and Dontrell Hewlett. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Packers flat in loss to Panthers

In a game eerily similar to its previous loss this season, the Green Bay Packers' offense committed untimely turnovers and its defense could not get off the field in a 16-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Packers opened the scoring in the second quarter with a Brandon McManus field goal after the two sides exchanged turnovers in the red zone. The Panthers answered the field goal with a Rico Dowdle touchdown run. The Packers could only muster a field goal as a retort, leaving the Lambeau Field turf clinging to a 7-6 deficit that could have been worse.

Following a missed field goal and a Jordan Love interception, Dowdle scored a touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 13-6. A penalty opened the door for the Packers to tie the game on a late rushing touchdown by Josh Jacobs, but the Panthers picked up enough first downs to get close enough for a field goal to walk off the field with the victory.

Love completed 27 passes for 273 yards and an interception while Jacobs led the team in rushing with 87 yards on 17 carries. Xavier McKinney led the Packers on a quiet day for the team's defense, registering the team's only sack and interception while piling up a game-high nine tackles.

The Packers will have an extra day to prepare for its next opponent, which is the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field.

Packers returning home to face Panthers

The Green Bay Packers are set to host the Carolina Panthers this Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Panthers are coming off a significant 40-9 loss to the Bills. The Packers are coming off a 35-25 victory against the Steelers. With a 5-1-1 record, the Packers currently lead the NFC North. Quarterback Jordan Love was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance against the Steelers, where he completed 29 of 37 passes for 360 yards and 3 touchdowns, achieving a 134.2 passer rating. In the receiving game, Tucker Kraft had an impressive 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running backs Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson split touches, with Jacobs gaining 45 yards and scoring a touchdown, and Wilson adding 87 yards. On defense, Xavier McKinney led the team with 7 tackles, followed by Keisean Nixon with 5, and Edgerrin Cooper with 4.
The kick-off is at 12:00 pm.

The Green Bay Gamblers made it a perfect weekend at the Resch Center, defeating the Dubuque Fighting Saints 3-2 on Saturday night for a second straight win.
