Area schools cross country taking on State Championship

Area high schools are sending their cross-country teams and individual qualifiers to the State Championship this Saturday at the Ridge Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

 

The Kewaunee girls’ cross country team will compete, led by Hannah Miller, who claimed the individual championship with a time of 18:59.7. Following her was Noelie El Kout, who took 11th, running a 20:31.8. Also qualifying for Kewaunee are Natalie Miller, Kaylyn Martin, Alison Szydel, Alison Kuehl, and Karla Swagel.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' cross country team secured second place at the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet in Waupaca, with all seven Spartans qualifying for state. Zach Tassoul led the team, finishing 7th with a time of 17:08.2. Other key finishers include Derek Christoph (13th, 17:31.4), Tanner Snowberry (15th, 17:33.5), Ezra Treml (17th, 17:44.0), Jonathan Salentine (18th, 17:51.9), Marcis Doell (22nd, 18:06.4), and Evan Vandermause (24th, 18:09.2). Claire Duchateau is also representing the Spartans in the girls' race.

 

Additionally, Sevastopol’s Breiah Newton qualified for the state championship after taking 6th with a 20:05.8.

 

The boys and girls will both run a 5,000-meter course. The following is a listing of the scheduled start times for each race: 

Boys
Noon - Division 3
12:35 p.m. - Division 2
1:10 p.m. - Division 1

Girls
1:45 p.m. - Division 3
2:25 p.m. - Division 2
3:05 p.m. - Division 1
