Sturgeon Bay, WI — The Door County YMCA Striver Gymnastics Team competed in their season opener this past weekend in Kimberly, Wisconsin at the Heart of the Valley YMCA Turkey Invitational.  The three-peat State Champion Striver Silver Team included 12 new gymnasts making their competitive debut.  Silver Team gymnasts include returning gymnasts Adela Cordua-Stenzel, Maisie Kelnhofer, Piper Delarwelle and Lulu Grenfell along with new gymnasts Maddox Cleveland, Brie Lapolla, Cambria Deeter, Maya Rank, Lila Lasecki, Laurel Lasecki, Lyra Scrimgeour, Ashton Pichette, Charlotte Hubing, Kali Tamble, Jennifer Bagneski and Leela Lama.  In the 9 and under age group Brie Lapolla placed 1st on vault, Laurel Lasecki placed 7th on floor and May Rank placed 2nd on vault, 2nd on beam and 5th all around.  In the 10 and 11 year old age group, Piper Delarwelle placed 2nd on vault, 1st on bars, 3rd on floor and 3rd all around; Lulu Grenfell tied with Piper Delarwelle for 2nd on vault, placed 5th on bars, 2nd on floor and 2nd all around;  Lyra Scrimgeour placed 4th on bars and 5th all around; Maisie Kelnhofer placed 5th on vault, beam, bars and floor and placed 4th all around; Kali Tamble placed 3rd on vault, Ashton Pichette tied with Maisie Kelnhofer for 5th on vault and Charlotte Hubing placed 3rd on beam, 2nd on bars and 1st on vault, floor and all around.  In the 12 and up age group, Leela Lama placed 1st on vault, 3rd on floor and 4th all around.  The Silver Striver Team placed 1st out of 6 teams in the competition.

Strivers Gold Gymnastics Team consists of returning gymnasts Keira Clark, Evelynn Kelsey, Ellie Kelsey and Greta Virgin along with former Silver Team gymnasts Genevieve Gigstead, Jessa Varney, Jackson Varney, Peyton Watermolen, Cosette Orrick, Annabel Smullen, Milana Reifsnyder and Emma Higginbotham.  In the 12 years old and under age group, Peyton Watermolen placed 1st on vault, 3rd on beam and bars and 7th all around; Jackson Varney placed 2nd on vault, 5th on beam and 4th on floor; Genevieve Gigstead placed 5th on beam and 10th on floor; Annabel Smullen placed 9th on bars, 4th on floor and 8th all around; Elli Kelsey placed 6th on vault and bars and 4th all around; Miland Reifsnyder placed 2nd on beam, 7th on floor and 6th all around and Jessa Varney placed 2nd on vault, 9th on beam, 3rd on floor and 1st on bars and all around.  In the 13 and up age group, Cosette Orrick placed 2nd on bars, Evelynn Kelsey placed 1st on vault and floor and 2nd all around and Greta Virgin placed 5th on vault, 3rd on beam, 2nd on floor and 1st all around.  The Strivers Gold Team placed 1st out of 6 teams in the competition.  Level 8 gymnasts Estelle Duerst and Amira Anschutz did not compete at the Turkey Invitational.  The team’s next meet will take place December 6-7 at the Downtown Green Bay YMCA.
