Gamblers add championship forward Ethan Drabicki in trade with Muskegon

The Green Bay Gamblers have bolstered their forward group with the addition of Ethan Drabicki, acquired from the Muskegon Lumberjacks in exchange for a pair of 2026 draft picks. Green Bay also receives Muskegon’s 2026 Phase I Round 10 pick as part of the deal.

Drabicki joins the Gamblers after spending last season with Muskegon, where he helped capture the Clark Cup Championship. During the 2024-25 season, Drabicki appeared in 24 games, scoring one goal and seven assists for eight total points.

Through eight games so far in the 2025-26 season, Drabicki has recorded one goal for the Lumberjacks before being traded to Green Bay.

Head coach Patrick McCadden praised the move, noting Drabicki’s work ethic and experience from last year’s championship run. “He brings a hard, skilled style to our lineup and comes highly recommended for his character,” McCadden said.

Drabicki adds depth and a winning background to a Gamblers team that has started the season strong and continues to look for consistency up front.

Packers prevent history in win over Steelers

Aaron Rodgers will have to wait if he wants to become the fifth quarterback in NFL history to beat all 32 teams after the Green Bay Packers came back to beat his Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night 35-25.

It looked for awhile that Rodgers join the list that includes Peyton Manning and Tom Brady after the Packers' offense disappeared following a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Tucker Kraft made it 7-3. The Steelers took a 16-7 lead into halftime before the Packers turned things around midway through the third quarter. That is when Love threw a swing pass over to Savion Williams for a score that made it 16-14. Following a Steelers' field goal, the Packers scored the next 21 points thanks to Josh Jacobs's rushing touchdown, a second Love-to-Kraft connection, and two field goals from Brandon McManus. Rodgers salvaged some points late, but it was not nearly enough to prevent the Packers from their fifth win of the season.

Love shined in front of his mentor, throwing for 360 yards and three touchdowns compared to Rodgers' 219 yards and two touchdowns. The Packers also showcased the defense it could be with a forced turnover and three sacks, including two from Rashan Gary.

The Packers are back in action on Sunday when they return to Lambeau Field to face the Carolina Panthers for a noon kick.

Gamblers respond on Saturday night against Chicago, split weekend series

The Green Bay Gamblers bounced back in a big way Saturday night, defeating the Chicago Steel 6-3 at the Resch Center. After falling 4-2 to the Steel the night before, Green Bay’s offense erupted behind strong performances from several key players.

The Gamblers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Simon Samuelsson and Carter Katz, while Griffin Wooten and Anthony Carcone each contributed on the scoresheet. Chicago trimmed the lead late in the period, but Green Bay stayed in control.

In the second period, Max Gulley, Owen Buesgens, and Wooten extended the Gamblers’ advantage, helping Green Bay take a commanding 5-2 lead. Jakob Hafele sealed the victory with an empty-net goal late in the third, while goaltender Charlie Slavick made 29 saves on 32 shots to secure the win.

The Gamblers outplayed Chicago in transition and capitalized on their chances — something that eluded them in Friday’s 4-2 loss despite outshooting the Steel 31-33.

Green Bay will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup when they return home to host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Thursday, October 31, at the Resch Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as the Gamblers aim to keep building rhythm heading into November.

Momentum shifted quickly in the second as Chicago answered back just 12 seconds in and later capitalized on a power play to even things up 2-2 heading into the final period.

The Steel kept the pressure on late, scoring the go-ahead goal with just over three minutes to play before sealing the win with an empty-netter in the closing seconds.

Despite the loss, Green Bay outshot Chicago 31-33 and showed flashes of control early but couldn’t convert in the second and third periods.

Green Bay Phoenix dominate in exhibition win over UW Platteville

The Green Bay women’s basketball team opened its season with a dominant 72 to 34 exhibition victory over UW Platteville on Saturday at the Kress Events Center.

While the result will not count toward either team’s record, it was a promising start for a Phoenix squad coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament where they fell in the first round to Alabama.

Green Bay showcased its depth and new talent early. The offseason brought several impactful additions including transfers Gracie Grzesk from UW Madison, Maddy Skorupski from Oakland, and Carley Duffney from South Dakota. All three earned the start and combined for 29 points.

UW Platteville’s Ella Mackiewicz led all scorers with 17 points, going 7 for 16 from the field and 1 for 5 from three. Grzesk paced Green Bay with 14 points on an efficient 6 for 10 shooting performance including 1 for 3 from deep. Megan Schultz came off the bench to add 10 points, hitting 4 of 8 shots.

While the Phoenix offense looked sharp, it was their defense that set the tone. Green Bay forced 27 turnovers and turned them into 32 points, including 18 in transition. Skorupski led the charge defensively with four steals of her own.

Overall, the exhibition served as a strong tune up for the Phoenix, who will face another Division III opponent, UW Stevens Point, in their first official game of the season on November 3 at the Kress Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
