TinCaps Rally Past Wisconsin

On Friday night, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got a taste of what they have been giving the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the first three games of the series at Neuroscience Group Field.  Wisconsin had rallied past the TinCaps late in the games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to run their winning streak to four games.  The TinCaps tied the game with two runs in the ninth inning and scored the only run of the tenth for a 4-3 win in extra innings to tighten up Wisconsin’s lead in the West Division playoff raced.

The Timber Rattlers (31-18) scored first.  Dylan O’Rae was hit by a pitch to start the first inning.  He moved to second on an error, stole third, and scored on a single by Matt Wood.

O’Rae also scored in the third inning.  He started the inning with a single.  Gregory Barrios followed with a hit-and-run single to send O’Rae to third.  Jadher Areinamo got O’Rae home with a sacrifice fly to right for a 2-0 lead.

Logan Henderson, the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers, was excellent in his home debut.  The Brewers pitching prospect allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out seven over four innings on just 52 pitches as he continues to work his way back from an oblique injury sustained during spring training.

Wisconsin manager Victor Estevez announced after the game in his comments for the team’s Postgame Podcast that Henderson is Biloxi-bound after two starts with the Timber Rattlers.  He allowed one run over 6-2/3 innings with ten strikeouts in his two starts.

The TinCaps (22-27) got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning.  Jay Beshears doubled with one out against reliever Tyler Wehrle.  Anthony Vilar singled to left with two outs to score Beshears.

Wisconsin scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Jheremy Vargas drove in Terence Doston with a two-out double for a 3-1 lead.

Jake Polancic pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for the Rattlers and turned the lead over to Chase Costello.

Costello pitched a scoreless eighth and went back out for the ninth but got in trouble right away.  He walked the lead-off batter and Nerwilian Cedeño followed with a double to left to put the tying runs in scoring position.  Lucas Dunn drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center.

Griffin Doersching, the product of Greendale, Wisconsin, tied the game moments later with a double to left.

In the bottom of the ninth, Ram?n Rodríguez doubled with one out, but he was left stranded there when the inning ended to send the teams to their second extra-inning game of the series.

The TinCaps moved Kai Murphy, their placed runner to start the top of the tenth, to third on a grounder to the right side.  Beshears sent a fly ball to medium center.  Eduarqui Fernández set up behind the ball to make the catch.  Murphy tagged and raced for the plate to score as the throw from Fernández was a little too high and up the first base line.

In the bottom of the tenth, Fernández started the inning at second base with Manuel Castro taking over as Fort Wayne’s fifth pitcher of the night.  Pinch-hitter Luke Adams struck out with one away but a passed ball on strike three by Vilar allowed Adams to reach and Fernández to take third base with O’Rae coming to the plate.

An odd play stopped the Rattlers rally in its tracks.  Castro threw an 0-2 pitch to O’Rae off the inside corner and the ball glanced off the glove of Vilar to the backstop.  Fernández, hesitated for a moment before breaking for the plate and that cost him.  The ball caromed back to Vilar, who was able to toss to Castro covering the plate to tag Fernández for the second out.  The game ended when O’Rae grounded out to short.

The Rattlers lead in the West Division shrank to ½-game over the Cedar Rapids Kernels.  The Kernels rallied for a 7-4 win over the Lake County Captains in Cedar Rapids on Friday night.  There are seventeen games remaining in the first half.

Game five of the series is the first Saturday night home game of the season for the Timber Rattlers.  Yujanyer Herrera (1-1, 5.65) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Fort Wayne has named Dylan Lesko (1-2, 6.52) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Glory women rock the House

Two first-half goals were enough for the Green Bay Glory to hold off Chicago House 2-1 Friday night in Elmhurst, Ill.

Claire Bradford took advantage of a turnover and fired a shot from outside the box for the Glory's first goal. The Glory's Riley Winrich buried a pass that cross through the box eight minutes later to double the lead. Chicago House would score their only goal with about 10 minutes remaining the match.

It was the Glory's first win of the season and they will be back in action on Sunday when they battle Milwaukee Torrent.

Maplewood's Jahnke deals in win over Institute on 105.1 The GOAT

Maplewood's Jeremiah Jahnke kept Institute guessing through six shutout frames as the Mets shutout the Cubs 12-0 in eight innings.

Jahnke had a four-run lead before visiting the mound, thanks to the patience of Mets hitters, drawing three walks and a hit-by-pitch to go along with a Tory Jandrin single.

The Mets would tack on one more against Cubs starting pitcher Robbie Pollman when Mark Viller drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home. Josh Pflieger would keep the Cubs close over the next four innings but still allowed a run in the sixth thanks to a couple of errors and two more in the seventh. The eighth inning would prove fatal for the Cubs as the Mets sent nine batters to the plate, scoring four times in the inning, with Jayden Diller's triple and single by Jandrin and Villers being the biggest blows.

Jahnke did not need the run support as he allowed four hits across six innings while striking out 14. Will Jandrin pitched the final two innings in relief, not allowing a hit by pegged a few batters to allow some base runners late.

Jandrin had four hits while Diller and Kody Kissinger also had multi-hit games. Jaeger Brusky, Frankie Ash, Quin Schram, and Kyle Ploor registered hits for the Cubs.

Rockers break season-opening skid

The Green Bay Rockers snapped their season-long losing skid on Thursday, beating the Madison Mallards 5-3.

The pitching wasn't sharp as the teams combined to walk two dozen batters and allow 12 hits. The two teams traded two runs in the first inning with the Rockers doubling up the Mallards in the second inning with another two runs. An insurance run in the fifth inning proved to be important when the Mallards rallied in the ninth, scoring one run but stopped short of completing.

Luke Mueller went 2-4 with two RBI for the Rockers in the win, joined by three others who knocked in at least run. Connor Nolen earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing three walks and two hits but kept the Mallards scoreless while striking out four.

The Rockers head down to Fond du Lac for a date with the Dock Spiders Friday night for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.

The Mets have followed up a season-opening thrashing of Baileys Harbor with two one-run wins against Washington Island and West Jacksonport. Last week, Kordell Draves drove in two runs, and two players had multi-hit games against the Ports, which resulted in a 5-4 win.

Comeback Rattlers Rally Again to Beat Fort Wayne

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are getting used to the late comeback victory.  The Timber Rattlers had won the first two games of their series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps with walkoff hits.  Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field, Wisconsin erased a 3-1 deficit with a run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth inning to beat the TinCaps 6-3 and maintain their position in the race for their first playoff spot since 2016.

Eduarqui Fernández, who hit the game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday, started the Wisconsin rally in the bottom of the third on Thursday.  He doubled off the wall in left with one out and moved to third on a grounder to second off the bat of Jheremy Vargas.  Gregory Barrios, who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday, knocked in Fernández with an infield single for a 1-0 lead.

Nerwilian Cedeño announced his presence for the TinCaps with his glove and his bat during a sequence to end the Rattlers fourth and lead-off the Fort Wayne fifth.

Wisconsin had Dylan O’Rae at third with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Matt Wood hit a soft line drive to that looked like it would drop on the infield grass.  Cedeño, who was playing in on the edge of the infield dirt, made a diving catch to coming in to pick it off the dirt.  O’Rae was running on contact and was easily doubled off third for the third out.

Cedeño started the Fort Wayne fifth with a triple to the track in right-center.  Joshua Mears drove in Cedeño with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The TinCaps took the lead in the top of the sixth.  Nik McClaughry singled to start the inning.  Ethan Salas, the #1 prospect in the San Diego Padres system, drove in McClaughry with a double to right.  The hit was the first of the series for Salas.  He had been 0-for-11 to that point.

Homer Bush Jr followed Salas with another RBI double to put Fort Wayne up 3-1.

The Timber Rattlers cut into the Fort Wayne advantage in the bottom of the seventh.  Ram?n Rodríguez doubled off the wall in left with one out.  Fernández doubled him home with two outs.

Fort Wayne starter Miguel Cienfuegos pitched seven innings, scattered seven hits with no walks, and allowed two runs over seven innings as he turned that 3-2 lead over to his bullpen.

Wisconsin went right to work against reliever Ryan Ochs.  Barrios started the inning with a double.  Och got the first out but gave up a single to O’Rae and hit Adams to load the bases.  Matt Wood, who tied Tuesday’s game in with an RBI double in the eighth inning, walked to the plate against Ochs and blooped a single just out of the reach of McClaughry.  Barrios scored the tying run, and the bases were still loaded for Rodríguez.

The Rattlers designated hitter had delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the tenth on Wednesday afternoon.  He came through again on Thursday night when he ripped a double to the corner in left on a 3-2 pitch from Ochs.  Two runs scored and Wisconsin had a 5-3 lead.

Wood scored an insurance run later in the inning on a wild pitch from David Morgan.

K.C. Hunt took over on the mound for the Rattlers in the top of the seventh he allowed one hit over the final three innings and closed out the game with a perfect ninth, including a strikeout of Mears to end the game.  Hunt recorded four strikeouts in the game and earned his first Midwest League win.

In the first-half West Division playoff chase, Wisconsin’s comeback win kept them 1-1/2 games clear of the second place Cedar Rapids Kernels.  The Kernels staged a comeback win at home on Thursday night against the Lake County Captains with a run in the eighth to tie and a two-run homer from Rayne Doncon in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-2 win.  Both Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids have eighteen games remaining in the first half.

Wisconsin has won four straight games and they have won all four in their final at bat.  The Rattlers have won in eleven innings on Sunday in South Bend, on walkoffs in the bottom of the ninth and bottom of the tenth in the first two games of this series, and with an eighth inning comeback on Thursday.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Logan Henderson (0-1, 3.38) will make his home debut as the Timber Rattlers starting pitcher.  Henry Baez (0-2, 4.46) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the TinCaps.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Wisconsin Rallies for Another Walkoff Win to Extend Division Lead

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday afternoon against the Fort Wayne TinCaps and it appeared they would miss their opportunity to extend their West Division lead.  Then, Eduarqui Fernández shook off his recent struggles with a two-run homer to tie the game.  Ram?n Rodríguez won the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth to send the Rattlers to their second straight 4-3, walkoff win over the TinCaps and a 1-1/2 game lead in the division in the team’s quest for its first playoff spot since 2016.

Anthony Vilar gave Fort Wayne (21-26) the lead with an RBI double in the top of the second inning.

The TinCaps threatened to add to their lead in the fourth inning.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Tate Kuehner gave up two singles and issued a walk with one out.  He got out of the jam with an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to keep the deficit at one run.

Fort Wayne put the first two batters on in the top of the fifth inning and that spelled the end of the line for Kuehner.  Aaron Rund was called in from the bullpen to keep the game close.

Homer Bush Jr was the first batter to face Rund and he just beat out a weak grounder past the mound for an infield single to tie the game.  Jay Beshears followed with a weak, spinning grounder back to the mound that glanced off Rund’s glove.  The Rattlers pitcher had to go to first for the out and a run scored to make it 2-0.  Rund struck out the next two batters to keep the deficit at two runs.

Wisconsin (30-17) scored a run without a hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Dylan O’Rae was hit by a pitch and Luke Adams walked with one out.  That knocked Fort Wayne starting pitcher Jagger Haynes out of the game

O’Rae and Adams pulled a double steal to get into scoring position.  Then, Ram?n Rodríguez drove in O’Rae with a sacrifice fly.

The TinCaps added an insurance run in the top of the seventh against reliever Brian Fitzpatrick.  Bush, who was 3-for-5 on the afternoon, singled and Beshears walked.  Devin Ortiz lined a single to left and Bush scored for a 3-1 lead.

The Rattlers were still down 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Jesús Chirinos singled to left to start the frame.  He was replaced by pinch-runner Terance Doston, who didn’t have to wait long to jog around the bases.  Fernández, who had broken an 0-for-20 slide with a single in the second inning on Wednesday, crushed the first pitch of his at bat against Bradgley Rodriguez past the scoreboard beyond the wall in left-center for a game-tying homer.

In the top of the tenth, Chase Costello stranded two TinCaps runners as he struck out three to keep the game tied.  Fort Wayne left fifteen runners on base in the game as they went 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position.  Five Wisconsin pitchers combined for fifteen strikeouts in the game.

In the bottom of the tenth, Jadher Areinamo started the inning at second.  Adams moved him to third by beating out a one-out, infield single.  Rodríguez put the game away with a sharp single to right on an 0-1 pitch to score Areinamo.

The Timber Rattlers have won three straight games starting with a 9-8, eleven inning win at South Bend on Sunday and a 4-3, walkoff win on Tuesday against the TinCaps.

In the first-half West Division playoff race, the Timber Rattlers once again received help from the Lake County Captains.  Lake County beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 6-4 in Iowa on Wednesday afternoon.  The Rattlers now lead second place Cedar Rapids by 1-1/2 games.  Both Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids have nineteen games remaining in the first half.

Game three at Neuroscience Group Field is set for Thursday night.  Will Rudy (1-4, 6.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Miguel Cienfuegos (3-4, 4.15) is the starter for the TinCaps.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The Braves scored at least two runs in the first four innings, including a nine-spot in the second inning that all but guaranteed the outcome. The Cubs were also victimized by five errors.

The Braves outhit the Cubs 16-5 behind five players posting multi-hit games. Christian Counard and Jack Peterson each drove in four runs while Tyler Neinas and Joe Schneider tallied three RBI apiece. For the Cubs, Robbie Pollman posted two hits while Frankie Ash delivered the lone RBI.

Glory beat Berber City to Improve to 3-0

The Green Bay Glory men's team is off to a hot start in their inaugural season.  After the Sunday afternoon match that saw it's fair share of delays, the Glory improved to 3-0 and a +10 goal differential.

The Glory would jump out to an early lead when, in the 11', Ethan Dietrich sent a shot across the goal past a diving goalkeeper Jack Strogen, that deflected off the right post into the goal. No more goals were scored in the first half, but the game hit an eleven minute delay when a ball off the foot of William Smested, which came just after a whistle, caught the main referee in the head, leading to her needing medical attention. The kick earned Smeasted a yellow card when play resumed.

The Glory struck early again in the second half when at the 49' Ethan Dietrich sent a corner kick in to Ben Omirnik, which Omernik headed into the back of the net for a two-nothing lead. The game would then hit its second long delay when a lightning strike nearby sent the game into what amounted to a nearly 45-minute weather delay.

After the delay, Ethan Dietrich would continue his big day putting another goal in the back of the net in the 70'. Green Bay's scoring was not done yet as Tommy Geocaris would put a goal into net in extra time giving the Glory the 4-0 victory with Hakkon Utesch shutting out Berber City's offense.

The Glory's next game will come Wednesday night when the men play the first game of a doubleheader, taking on FDL FC.  Game two, the Glory women will open their season against North shore. Those games will take place at UWGB.

The Maplewood Mets stayed undefeated in the Door County League with a 5-4 cliffhanger road win over the West Jacksonport Ports on Sunday before a big crowd and a pending rainstorm.

Maplewood and West Jacksonport each scored one run in the first inning on lead-off doubles.  Cody Kissinger scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Gutschow for the Mets, and the Cubs responded with an RBI single by Woody Schartner scoring Alec Schartner.

The Maplewood took a 2-1 lead in the second when Nolan Wagner singled and eventually scored.

The Mets increased the lead to 4-1 in the third inning when Kordell Draves crushed a two-run home run off Ports pitcher Luke Steebs.

The score stayed that way until the fifth when the Ports' added one run and tallied two more in the sixth with the tying run scoring on a wild pitch.

Tory Jandrin came in to pitch in the seventh inning and scored the lead run in the eighth inning after singling and scoring on an error.

The Ports threatened in the ninth inning as Drew Tanck doubled with one out and advanced to third base on a deep fly ball by Woody Schartner who narrowly missed a walk-off two-run home run.  Carter Bieri then lined out to second base to end the game before the rains came.

Jandrin went three innings in relief of starter Jeremiah Jahnke and picked up the win while striking out three for the Mets who improved to 3-0 in the DCL.

Riley Cordier took the tough-luck loss for the Ports who fell to 1-2 in league play.

Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed 4-0 after six innings on Thursday night at Four Winds Field in their game against the South Bend Cubs.  The Rattlers rallied with within a run but left the tying run on second in the top of the ninth and missed a few other opportunities in the contest.

Both starting pitchers – Will Rudy for Wisconsin and Nick Dean for South Bend – were on their game as each team had one hit through the first three innings.

South Bend (16-26) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Pedro Ramirez tripled to start the inning.  Jefferson Rojas knocked in Ramirez with a single.  Later in the frame, Reivaj Garcia drove in Rojas with a single.

The Timber Rattlers (27-15) had one hit off Dean, who was making his South Bend debut, in five innings.  Dean walked none and struck out five while facing the minimum thanks to a caught stealing in the second inning

There was a key sequence of events in the sixth inning.  Wisconsin had runners at second and third with one out against reliever Angel Gonzalez after two walks and a passed ball.  However, the Rattlers could not score to cut into the Cubs lead as Gonzalez got a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat.

In the bottom of the sixth, South Bend had runners at second and third with no outs against reliever Brian Fitzpatrick after a single and an error on Luke Adams.  Jonathan Long drove in both runners with a one-out single and the Cubs went up 4-0.

Wisconsin had Tyler Santana, the third Cubs pitcher, on the ropes in the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with no outs on a single by Jadher Areinamo, a walk to Adams, and a single by Matt Wood.  Tayden Hall was next, and he sent a fly ball to center that was deep enough to score Areinamo.  However, Adams tried to tag on the play, too and he was thrown out at third on a strong throw from Brett Bateman.  Wisconsin didn’t score again in the seventh.

In the eighth, Terence Doston walked on four pitches against Santana.  Jheremy Vargas, who had walked in the sixth, swung at the first pitch from Santana and grounded into a 5-4-3 double play.

The Rattlers didn’t stop trying to comeback in the eighth.  Gregory Barrios and Dylan O’Rae both singled to keep the inning alive.  Then, Areinamo lined a double to the wall in left to score both runners to pull Wisconsin to within a run.

In the ninth, Wood had a lead-off single against Carlo Reyes.  A weak grounder up the first base line moved Wood into scoring position with the tying run.  However, Reyes got the final two batters of the game on a flyout and a strikeout to secure the Cubs second win of the three games played in the series.

The Timber Rattlers left five runners on base and were 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Thursday night.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels beat the Peoria Chiefs 8-5 on Thursday.  The Kernels win moved them to within a half-game of the first place Timber Rattlers in the first half West Division playoff race.  There are 24 games remaining in the first half.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Four Winds Field.  Logan Henderson has been named as the Wisconsin starting pitcher and is making his Midwest League debut.  The Cubs have announced Drew Gray (0-1, 3.38) as their starter.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Kuehner Ks Eight in Wisconsin Win

Tate Kuehner was given an early lead on Wednesday morning at Four Winds Field, and he wasn’t going to let it go.  The Wisconsin left-hander set new professional, single-game highs for strikeouts and innings pitched in Wisconsin’s 4-2 victory over the South Bend Cubs.

Wisconsin (27-14) took advantage of two South Bend errors to score twice in the first inning.  Jadher Areinamo was at second and Gregory Barrios at first with two outs and Matt Wood at the plate.  Areinamo stole third and scored when the throw sailed into left field.  Barrios, who took second on the play, would score moments later when shortstop Jefferson Rojas booted Wood’s grounder to short.

Areinamo was in the mix again in the second inning as the Rattlers doubled their lead.  Eduarqui Fernández started the inning with a triple and Dylan O’Rae walked with one out.  Then, Areinamo lined 1-1 pitch to center.  Brett Bateman made a diving attempt for a catch, but the ball glanced off his glove to the warning track.  Both runners scored on Areinamo’s double.

Kuehner took that 4-0 lead and ran with it.  He struck out six South Bend batters in a row as he struck out the side in order in both the third and fourth inning.  He gave up a lead-off single to Jonathan Long in the fifth inning, but a double play erased Long.  Kuehner recorded his eighth strikeout to conclude his five scoreless innings and turned a 4-0 lead over to the bullpen.

The only two hits Kuehner allowed were singles to Long.  The only walk he issued was to the first batter he faced in the game, and he was also erased on a double play.

South Bend (15-26) could not take advantage of two walks by reliever Yerlin Rodriguez in the sixth inning.  However, two more walks by Rodriguez to start the seventh inning were followed by a bloop hit from Long to load the bases.  Wisconsin got the first out of the inning when Dylan O’Rae made a diving stop of a grounder off the bat of Ethan Hearn for a put out at first base with a run scoring on the play.

Chase Costello was called in from the Wisconsin bullpen and got the second out on a strikeout before issuing a walk to reload the bases.  Costello escaped the jam on a routine grounder to O’Rae.

In the eighth, Costello got the first two outs before Jefferson Rojas singled to extend the inning.  Felix Stevens worked the count full and ripped a double to left to score Rojas.

Craig Yoho was the next man up for the Rattlers and he would walk Long, who was 3-for-3 on the afternoon.  Yoho walked Long on four pitches to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but he bounced back to strike out Hearn to end the inning with the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the ninth, there was no drama as Yoho retired the Cubs in order to collect his seventh save of the season.

Wisconsin stranded twelve runners and was 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.  The defense was flawless with their 27th errorless game of the season, including two key double plays.

The Rattlers are 14-4 in day games this season after their win on Wednesday.

Game three of the series at Four Winds Field is Thursday night.  Will Rudy (1-3, 6.43) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Nick Dean, who will be making his Midwest League debut, has been announced as the starting pitcher for the Cubs.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Sawyer on the mound came through with a complete game effort, scattering six hits and allowing 1 unearned run.  He was also the Indians' leading hitter with three hits and three runs batted in. Cole Frangipiane, Alex Burne, Nick Kita, and Cody Giesseman also drove in runs for the Indians. Max Bordeaux and Derek Neidzwicki each got two hits and Alex Schartner scored the only run for the Ports in the loss.

A's topple Cubs in Sunday showdown

Baileys Harbor registered 10 hits and capitalized on six Cubs errors in a 10-4 road victory in Institute.

The A's scored at least one run in every inning but in the fifth inning, including two runs in the third inning and three in the sixth inning. The Cubs had a shortlived lead after they scored twice in the first inning to head into the second frame up 2-1.

Brett Anschutz paced the A's as he went 1-5 with a double while driving in three runs. River Pawelski went 3-6 and drove in a pair of runs in the victory, with seven total A's players collecting at least one hit. For the Cubs, Robbie Pollman and Jaeger Brusky each had two hits, while Frankie Ash, Arthur Hocevar, and Joe Hoffman registered RBI in the loss.

Sister Bay outlasts Kolberg at home

The Sister Bay Bays made sure their late runs were enough in their 9-6 win over Kolberg on Sunday afternoon.

The Bays and the Braves traded runs early after a scoreless first inning, leaving the game 5-4 in favor of the Bays after four innings. The Bays would put up four runs in the seventh inning to state their case for the victory. The Braves would score twice in the ninth, but Matt Hecht was able to close the door for the Bays win.

The Bays played long ball against the Braves, with Griffin Cole, Tom Sawyer, and Spencer Krause leaving the yard against the Braves' Marcus Reinhardt. Casey Weddig drove in three runs for the Bays on a 2-3 day. The Braves' Trevor Reinhardt slugged his home run while Derek Schinktgen collected his own extra-base hit with a double.

Mets Survive Islander Pressure on 105.1 The GOAT

The Washington Island Islanders applied pressure all day against the Maplewood Mets, but the Mets came out on top in a 1-2 battle Sunday in Door County Baseball Action. Runs were hard to come by for both teams, as runners reached base in every half-inning from the top of the first through the fifth inning.

In the bottom half of the 5th inning, Mark Villers, who reached on a leadoff walk, came around and scored after a sacrifice by Kody Kissinger and an RBI single by Adam Gutschow, which plated the day's first run. Tory Jandrin, who took over the mound in the top of the 5th, turned the Islanders away in order in the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, Zach Marchant hit what would end up being the game-winning run with a home run to left field.

The Islanders would not go away quietly and would answer in the top of the 7th when leadoff hitter Troy Jorgenson reached on a single, eventually coming home on a throwing error by the Mets pitcher.  Entering the 9th inning, the Islanders still trailed 1-2 but would end up loading the bases.  Islander Ben Johnson would come to the plate with two outs and bases loaded, but Mets closer Jayden Diller would get him to pop out to Kordel Draves at first base to end the inning.

Final lines are The Mets move to 2-0 on 2 R, 5 H, 1 E, 8 LOB, while the Islanders fall to 0-2 on 1 R, 6 H, 0 E, 10 LOB.  Next week's featured game on 105.1 the Goat and New Radio Sports Network will be Maplewood @ West Jacksonport.

Wisconsin Closes Out Series With 5-3 Win over Beloit

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Beloit Sky Carp 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers jumped to a 5-0 lead and withstood a rally from the visitors thanks to two scoreless innings from the bullpen.

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall made a brief and effective rehabilitation start for the Timber Rattlers.  He worked a 1-2-3 top of the first inning with one strikeout and needed eleven pitches for his day.

Jesús Chirinos, who hit the three-run walkoff home run on Saturday, put Wisconsin up 2-0 with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the second inning on Sunday.

The Timber Rattlers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs on one hit.  Jheremy Vargas reached on a fielder’s choice by beating the throw to first on a potential double play ball.  Dylan O’Rae walked and Jadher Areinamo singled to load the bases.  Gregory Barrios sent a towering fly deep to the left field corner.  The ball was caught on the warning track with Vargas scoring and O’Rae moving to third.  The throw into the cutoff man got away for an error to allow Areinamo to take second base.

Luke Adams was at the plate with two outs when Alex Williams threw a pitch in the dirt that trickled away from catcher Cameron Barstad.  O’Rae broke for the plate and scored with Barstad’s throw getting by Williams and rolling back up the third baseline.  Areinamo, who was already at third saw the opening and raced for the plate to score for a 5-0 lead.

Beloit got to reliever Edwin Jimenez in the top of the sixth.  Josh Zamora cracked a three-run homer with one out to cut Wisconsin’s lead to two runs.  Jimenez retired the next two batters and pitched a scoreless seventh inning.  He allowed three runs over six innings of relief with two walks and six strikeouts to put himself in line for his sixth win of the season.

Wisconsin’s bullpen denied the Sky Carp a comeback on Sunday.  Chase Costello pitched a perfect eighth with one strikeout.  Craig Yoho worked around a two-out walk to pitch a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers offense only struck out four times in Sunday’s game.  They struck out just 30 times in the six-game series.

The Rattlers took five of six from the Sky Carp in the series and maintain a 1-1/2 game lead over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the West Division of the Midwest League.  The Kernels have won seven in a row and completed a six-game sweep of the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday with a 5-3 win.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action with a return to Four Winds Field in South Bend, Indiana for the start of a six-game series with the South Bend Cubs.  Mark Manfredi (1-0, 3.57) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  The Cubs have named Aaron Perry (0-1, 1.23) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 5:05pm CDT.

Green Bay Glory strike down Fox Valley SC

The Green Bay Glory won their second match in as many days on Sunday, beating the Fox Valley SC Strikers 2-0.

The Glory scored three goals in each half to earn the victory. Ozzy Ramirez (11th), Ethan Dietrich (27th), Tommy Geocaris (41st), Cooper Re (79th, 84th), and Trent Kazlauskas (86th) registered the goals for the Glory in the win.

Chirinos Blasts Rattlers Past Beloit

Jesús Chirinos saved the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers from a tough defeat at the hands of the Beloit Sky Carp on Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Beloit rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth.  Then, Chirinos played the hero by cracking a three-run, walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth to send the Rattlers to an 8-7 victory.

The Rattlers (25-13) had the lead from almost the very start of the game.  Luis Lara reached on an error to start the bottom of the first inning and Wisconsin made the Sky Carp pay for the miscue.  Beloit starter Ike Buxton hit Dylan O’Rae to put two runners on base.  Gregory Barrios followed with a single to left to score Lara.  The throw home was off line and that allowed both O’Rae and Barrios to move into scoring position.

Matt Wood scored O’Rae and moved Barrios to third with a ground out.  Luke Adams drove in Barrios with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Alexander Cornielle, the Wisconsin starter, tossed five scoreless innings.  He allowed two hits, hit two batter, and struck out four.  In his last three starts, Cornielle has pitched eighteen shutout innings with seventeen strikeouts.

Barrios added with the Rattlers advantage with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Beloit (18-19) started their comeback in the sixth inning against reliever KC Hunt as Jake DeLeo drove in a run with a two-out double.

Hunt pitched a perfect seventh but had issues finding the final out in the eighth.  The Sky Carp had runners on second and third with one out and Torin Montgomery grounded out to short to drive in one run.  DeLeo made it 5-3 with an RBI single.  Sam Praytor cut Wisconsin’s lead to a single run with a double to the gap in right-center.  Hunt got his fifth strikeout of the game to end the inning with the Rattlers still in the lead.

Yerlin Rodriguez, who was 5-for-5 in save opportunities coming into Saturday went out for the top of the ninth to face the top of the Beloit order.  He got the first out before giving up singles to Jake Thompson and Mark Coley II.  Josh Zamora, who had homered in the previous two games in the series, singled to right and it looked like the bases would be loaded with one out.  However, Eduarqui Fernández misplayed the ball to allow Thompson and Coley to score to give the Sky Carp a 6-5 lead.

Montgomery added an insurance run for Beloit with a two-out, infield single that trickled up the third base line to score Zamora from third.

The Timber Ratters had to come back in the bottom of the ninth against Josh Ekness, a right-hander with a high-90s fastball who had allowed just one run and struck out 24 in seventeen innings between the Florida State League and Midwest League this season.

Tayden Hall started the rally by drawing walk with one-out, only the fourth walk by Ekness this season.  Terence Doston kept the rally going when he dropped a single into center on a 1-2 pitch to set the stage for Chirinos.

Ekness got ahead of Chirinos with two quick strikes.  Then, he missed his location on his 0-2 pitch and Chirinos didn’t miss the opportunity.  Chirinos crushed the hanger out of the stadium for his second home run of the season to give Wisconsin an 8-7 victory.

The walkoff homer by Chirinos was the first by a Timber Rattler since Joey Wiemer hit a three-run walkoff home run to beat Beloit 7-5 on September 5, 2021.

The victory by the Rattlers clinched a series win over the Sky Carp with four wins in the first five games of the series with one game left between the teams this weekend.

Sunday afternoon is the series finale for the Rattlers and Beloit.  DL Hall is scheduled to make the start for the Timber Rattlers on a Major League rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers.  Alex Williams (1-2, 8.18) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 1:10pm.

Comeback Rattlers Beat Beloit 4-2

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought their way back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Beloit Sky Carp Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Yujanyer Herrera pitched four scoreless innings of relief to allow the Rattlers to hang around before managing to manufacture enough offense for the win.

Josh Zamora put Beloit (18-18) in front in the second inning with a home run for the second game in a row.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Brian Fitzpatrick walked the lead-off hitter in the inning.  Zamora, who hit a solo homer in the second inning on Thursday, cracked a two-run homer on Friday night to give the Sky Carp a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (24-13) staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the third to get on the scoreboard.  Dylan O’Rae walked and stole second.  Jadher Areinamo doubled to the corner in left to score O’Rae and bring the Rattlers to within a run.  However, the inning ended with two Rattlers on base.

The Rattlers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning but did not score after a 5-2-3 double play and a grounder to short.  Wisconsin also left two runners aboard in the fifth.

Fitzpatrick settled in after the home run by Zamora to work five innings.  He allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out three before giving way to Herrera.

Eduarqui Fernández doubled with one out in the bottom of the sixth and Jheremy Vargas, who hit into the double play in the fourth, drove Fernández home with a single to tie the score.

The game turned in the seventh inning.  In the top of the seventh, Beloit had runners at second and third with no outs against Herrera after a lead-off single by Jake DeLeo and a double by Osiris Johnson.  Herrera got the first out on a line out to Luis Lara in center that wasn’t deep enough for DeLeo to attempt to tag and score.  The second out Herrera striking out Jake Thompson.  Mark Coley II grounded out to Tayden Hall at first for the final out to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the seventh, O’Rae walked and stole second against Beloit reliever Xavier Meachem.  He was at third with two outs and Hall sent a weak grounder to first.  He was called safe on a close play at first with Meachem covering to take the throw.

Lara added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Herrera pitched around a one-out double by DeLeo in the ninth to close out the game.  He pitched four scoreless innings, scattered five hits, walked none, and struck out four to earn his first win of the season.

O’Rae was on base four times with two singles and two walks.  He also stole two bases and scored two runs for Wisconsin.

The Timber Rattlers took advantage of eight walks by Beloit pitching to win their third game of the four played in the series.

Game five of the series is Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Alexander Cornielle (3-1, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Ike Burton (0-4, 4.43) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 1:10pm.

Blizzard look to defend home turf vs. Fighters

The Indoor Football League's top defense will try to defend the Resch Center on Saturday when the Frisco Fighters come to town to face the Green Bay Blizzard.

The Blizzard leads the league in points allowed, total sacks, and third-down completion percentage, among other statistical categories. Last weekend, that was in full display when the Blizzard beat the Tulsa Oilers 42-22, allowing them to less than 200 yards of total offense. Max Meylor nearly outgained the Oilers himself, throwing for 161 and rushing for another 29 en route to a five-touchdown afternoon.

The Blizzard play the Oilers at 3:05 p.m. Saturday.

Green Bay basketball teams forming coaching staffs

With new head coaches comes new coaching staffs, and Green Bay's newest leaders are wasting no time filling out those position.

On the women's side, the program has officially announced Allie LeClaire, Sarah Bronk, and Kate Peterson Abiad as assistant coaches on the staff. Bronk coached Karius and LeClaire as a member of Matt Bollant's staff and has stuck with the program since then. Abiad was the head coach at Cleveland State before taking a position with the WIAA until her recent resignation.

On the men's side, Jon Rothstein reports that Doug Gottlieb has hired Kansas City's Aerick Sanders as an assistant coach. Sanders has also coached at Montana State, UNLV, and New Mexico State. If confirmed, he would join Jordan McCabe on the staff, who was kept on after former head coach Sundance Wicks hired him prior to his departure to Wyoming.

Wisconsin Win Streak Ends with Shutout Loss to Beloit

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were looking to make it five wins in a row with a victory over the Beloit Sky Carp on Thursday Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Cade Gibson and his teammates had other ideas.  Gibson pitched seven scoreless innings with support from three home run and the Sky Carp beat the Rattlers 6-0.

Beloit (18-17) scored first for the third straight game of the series.  Josh Zamora hit a solo home run with one out in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Will Rudy retired the first two Sky Carp batters on two pitches in the third inning and it looked like the Rattlers hitters would get another crack at Gibson.  However, Yiddi Cappe fouled off three two-strike pitches and beat out an infield single to keep the inning alive.  Jake Thompson was next, and he singled to right on a 3-2 pitch.  Then, Mark Coley II hit a long homer on a 2-0 pitch.  Cameron Barstad followed with another long home run and the Sky Carp were up 5-0.

Osiris Johnson made it a 6-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth and neither team threatened for the remainder of the game.

Gibson needed 83 pitches to match his single-game high as a pro for innings.  The lefty allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out three over his seven innings.  Josh Ekness and Dale Stanavich both worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to hand Wisconsin its first shutout loss of the season.

Wisconsin (23-13) used a quartet of relievers to cover the final five innings after Rudy left the game.  Jake Polancic tossed a perfect fifth inning with two strikeouts.  Aaron Rund worked two scoreless innings with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tyler Wehrle pitched the eighth inning with three strikeouts and an infield single.  Craig Yoho pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

Yoho has 31 strikeouts in sixteen innings pitched with the Rattlers this season.

The Sky Carp ended a six-game losing streak with their win on Thursday night.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Brian Fitzpatrick (2-1, 4.05) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Karson Milbrandt (1-2, 3.14) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Packers announce 2024 schedule

A noon preseason game, three divisional games for Gold package season ticket holders, and four straight primetime games are some of the highlights revealed during Wednesday's schedule announcement.

With the unbalanced schedule, the Packers will host just one preseason game, a noon contest on August 24th against the Cleveland Browns. They will play nine regular-season games, including four straight in primetime beginning on Thanksgiving night against the Miami Dolphins. The other scheduling quirk that irked many season ticket holders was the distribution of Green package versus Gold package games. The gold package, which is primarily Milwaukee-based season ticket holders, traditionally gets the second and fifth home games. Due to the unbalanced schedule, the group also received the ninth home game. This year, that means contests against NFC North rivals Minnesota Vikings (9/29), Detroit Lions (11/3), and Chicago Bears (1/4 or 1/5). You can find the full schedule below:

Green Bay job a dream come true for Gottlieb

Doug Gottlieb hopes to prove the naysayers wrong by the time the team hits the court this fall.

The Green Bay Athletics Department introduced Gottlieb as its 10th head men's basketball coach at a press conference on Wednesday. Chancellor Michael Alexander credited Athletic Director Josh Moon on his outside-the-box thinking on the hire, which almost occurred ahead of last season before Sundance Wicks won the job.

Gottlieb spoke for approximately 35-40 minutes after he was introduced, reflecting on his time playing college basketball at Notre Dame and Oklahoma and his experiences. He began his press conference by telling a story about how he told his mom that he got the job.

Critics of the hire have pointed to his national sports talk show, which he will keep doing as the coach of the Phoenix, as a possible distraction. Gottlieb defended the decision, saying he had rid himself of other commitments and was open to dropping the show if he could not handle doing both. With three scholarships remaining to fill and several players wondering if they should dip their toes in the portal, Gottlieb asked for trust.

Gottlieb was named the coach shortly after Wicks opted to move back home to take the head coaching position at Wyoming.

Areinamo Gets an A+ for Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Beloit Sky Carp 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Jadher Areinamo doubled in the tying run and scored a run in Wisconsin’s three-run fourth inning that put them ahead to stay.  Areinamo also contributed with some big defensive plays at third base to help the Rattlers to their fourth straight win.

Beloit (17-17) took the lead on a two-out, RBI single by Johnny Olmstead in the top of the fourth inning.  That was the only run allowed by Mark Manfredi, the Wisconsin starting pitcher who struck out six over four innings in the game.

Wisconsin (23-12) went in front with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and they needed one hit to do it.  Dylan O’Rae started the rally with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Luke Adams appeared to have grounded out to third for the second out, but Yiddi Cappe’s throw to first was wild and the Rattlers had runners on the corners when the dust settled after the play.  Areinamo cashed in O’Rae with a double to right to tie the game.

Then, Ram?n Rodríguez drew a walk to load the bases.  Eduarqui Fernández was next, and he hit a hard grounder to first.  Torin Montgomery fielded the ball cleanly but his throw to second base was wild.  Instead of an inning-ending double play, the ball wound up in left field.  Both Adams and Areinamo scored to put Wisconsin up 3-1.

The Wisconsin pitching and defense took over from that point.

Chase Costello entered the game for the top of the fifth and retired the Sky Carp in order.

Tate Kuehner relieved Costello to start the sixth inning and found himself in a sticky spot with runners at first and second with one out after a walk and a single.  Kuehner escaped the inning with the two-run lead intact with a strikeout and a stellar defensive play from Areinamo at third to take an RBI hit away from Olmstead.

The Sky Carp also had two on with two outs in the eighth inning with Olmstead at the plate.  Kuenher got out of the jam again.  This time Olmstead hit a line drive right to Adams at first base.

Kuehner closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning – with a strikeout and two grounders to Areinamo – to give the Rattlers their ninth consecutive win over Beloit dating back to last season.  He allowed three hits and walked two with three strikeouts over four scoreless innings for the win.

Game three of the series is Thursday evening at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Will Rudy (1-2, 5.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers.  Beloit has named Cade Gibson (1-1, 3.96) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Green Bay set to hire Gottlieb as new men's basketball coach

UPDATE: The hiring is confirmed. He will be introduced on Wednesday

Only two days after its old coach left for Wyoming pastures, Green Bay is set to hire a familiar name for its latest head men's basketball vacancy.

Several outlets report that Green Bay is set to hire FOX Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb as its new head men's basketball coach after flirting with the opportunity last year.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette's Scott Venci suggests that Gottlieb could keep his radio duties and be the program's leader. Gottlieb said last year it was a sticking point in his pursuit of the position, saying on his radio show that he feels it would be good promotion for the program. His only previous coaching experience was as a member of the staff for the U.S. team at the Maccabiah Games held in Israel in 2009 and 2017. He made his name collegiately as a high-scoring guard at Oklahoma State after leaving Notre Dame due to a credit card stealing scandal.

No other details, including the specifics with his contract, have been released.

Exodus begins from Phoenix men's program?

The domino effect has begun for the Green Bay men's basketball program after the departure of head coach Sundance Wicks.

Horizon League All-Freshman Team performer David Douglas Jr. announced on social media that he would be entering the transfer portal. He specifically cited Wicks' departure as his reason for entering. He did tell Scott Venci that he was not ruling out a return to the Phoenix.

Venci also talked to other members of the Phoenix that had decided to stay. Preston Ruedinger has not decided what he will do. Bennett Basich, who just wrapped up his high school career, has indicated he will stay.

In the wake of the change, athletic director Josh Moon said he is hard at work and hopes to have the decision made in the coming weeks.

Glory men exits Amateur Cup on late goal

A stoppage-time goal will force the Green Bay Glory men's soccer team to focus on the regular season after they lost to Vlora FC 1-0.

Joseph Giron delivered the heartache in the 94th minute to win the game and advance in the Amateur Cup.

After a friendly at UWGB on Wednesday, the Glory men host Rockford FC at the Banta Bowl on Saturday while Glory women still have to wait until May 31st for their first match against Chicago House.

Mets brush back A's late

The Baileys Harbor A's 4-2 lead quickly turned against them, as the Maplewood Mets scored at least three runs in the final three innings to take the game 17-6 in seven innings.

The two teams traded a pair of runs in the first inning before the A's would tally a run in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth inning, leading the game 4-2 heading into the fifth and down 5-4 after the fifth. The Mets would score six times in the sixth and four times in the seventh to end the game early.

Kordell Draves went 2-3 for the Mets, with four runs scored and three driven in. Zach Marchant drove in two runs on a 2-5 day, while five others registered at least one hit. Elvis Torres led the way for the A's with a 4-5 day and two RBI. A Gienter also drove in a pair in the A's loss.

Ports hold off Cubs' rally on opening day

The West Jacksonport Ports resisted a rally from the Institute Cubs to win their opening-day matchup 9-6.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the fourth inning before the Ports scored seven times thanks in part to drawing four walks and three doubles from Jack deYoung, Alec Schartner, and Drew Tanck. Woody Schartner went 2-4 on the day.

The Cubs went on a tear late to score three runs in the ninth inning to make it a 9-6 game, but they could not get any closer. Jaeger Brusky went 3-4 and Will Hartman finished 2-2 at the plate.

Tanck picked up the win on the mound for the Ports, while Hartman was tagged with the loss.

Bats explode late in Braves' win over Indians

A pitcher's duel through four innings flipped quickly in the fifth as the Kolberg Braves beat the Egg Harbor Indians on Sunday 20-10.

The Braves put up crooked numbers against the Indians in the final four innings played, including five in the seventh and eight in the eighth, forcing the game to conclude before the ninth inning.

Jack Peterson and Trevor Reinhardt both homered as they combined for six hits and seven RBI. Nine Braves players got at least two hits apiece as they outhit the Indians 21-12. Christian Counard had three RBI and three others had at least two. For the Indians, Cody Giesseman tried his best to keep the Indians in it as he drove in six runs while going 2-5 at the plate. Eric Dejardin homered and drove in two.

Sun sets on Wicks' era at Green Bay

Sundance Wicks is going home, leaving the Green Bay men's basketball team with a vacancy for the third time since 2020.

Wicks signed a five-year deal with Wyoming over the weekend to become their head basketball coach after one year with the Phoenix. The wheels were set in motion when the Cowboys' previous head coach, Jeff Lindner, left the program to become the top assistant coach at Texas Tech reportedly. Wicks became a candidate almost immediately because of his Gilette, Wy. roots and his previous stint with the Cowboys as an assistant coach. Scott Venci of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on Saturday that Wicks had asked Green Bay for permission to talk to the Cowboys, and Pete Thamel of ESPN reported the hire on Sunday.

Wicks had recently signed a contract extension to stay as the Phoenix head coach, which included a $705,000 buyout if he chose to leave. Athletic Director Josh Moon told Venci that the search is already underway and he hopes to have the position filled by next week.

Wisconsin Beats Bandits 6-3 to Win Series

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got six scoreless innings from Edwin Jimenez and two homers from Ramon Rodríguez to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.  The win allows the Timber Rattlers to come home from their six-game trip to Iowa in first place in the West Division of the Midwest League.

Quad Cities (19-14) had the first scoring opportunity in the game.  Dustin Dickerson reached on an error by shortstop Jadher Areinamo with one out in the bottom of the second.  The error was the first for Wisconsin since May 1 and snapped a streak of nine consecutive errorless games.  Justin Johnson followed with a single and a wild pitch by Jiminez to put runners at second and third.

Areinamo redeemed himself by making a tough pick with the infield on a grounder to him off the bat of Omar Hernandez.  Dickerson held at third, but Johnson committed too far to third base.  The out was eventually recorded as Dickerson was retired after a brief rundown between third and home.  Jimenez got the final out of the inning with a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.

Wisconsin (21-12) jumped to the lead with three runs in the top of the third.  Terence Doston beat out an infield single with one out.  Rodríguez followed with a long home run to left and the Rattlers were up 2-0.  The homer was the first of the season for Rodríguez.

Luis Lara and Dylan O’Rae followed with singles to put runners on the corners.  A passed ball allowed Lara to score for the 3-0 lead.

The Timber Rattlers added to their lead in the sixth inning with the longball.  Eduarqui Fernández homered to start the inning.  Rodríguez followed one out later with his second homer of the game for a 5-0 lead.  Rodríguez is the first Rattler to hit two homers in a game this season.

Jimenez worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth inning to close his ledger for the day.  The right-hander allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out seven over six scoreless innings.  He put himself in line to move his record to 5-0 as the bullpen needed to cover the final nine outs.

Aaron Rund pitched a scoreless seventh for the Rattlers.  Tyler Wehrle retired the first two batters he faced in the eighth before giving up a solo home run to Carson Roccaforte for the first run of the game for the River Bandits.

There were two outs in the top of the ninth and Jeremy Vargas extended the inning with a single.  The inning appeared to be over when Fernández send a routine grounder to short.  However, the ball went under the glove of Dickerson into left field.  Vargas, who was running on the pitch, never stopped running and scored a run to put the Rattlers up 6-1.

Yerlin Rodriguez was called in to finish the game in a non-save situation.  Things would turn tense after he walked two of the first three batters he faced and gave up a single to load the bases.

Rodriguez got the second out on a strikeout and was 2-2 to Jack Pineda, who hit a grand slam on Friday night against the Rattlers.  Pineda smacked a single to center to score two runs and bring Roccaforte to the plate as the potential tying run.

Roccaforte made things very interesting with a deep fly ball to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch.  Fortunately for Wisconsin, Lara raced over from center and made the catch on the warning track to end the game.

The Timber Rattlers took four of the six games from the River Bandits to win the series.  Wisconsin’s win on Sunday gives them the best record in the Midwest League after 33 games this season.  Sunday’s game also marked the halfway point of the first half of the season.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with a game against the Beloit Sky Carp at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Patricio Aquino (1-2, 6.53) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Sky Carp have announced Jacob Miller (1-2, 2.01) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Bays blast Islanders in opener on 105.1 The Goat

On a sun splashed Mother's Day afternoon, the Sister Bay Bays opened the 2024 Door County League at home with a resounding 17-3 win over the Washington Island Islanders in eight innings.

Powered by two three-run home runs, one by Spencer Krause and the other by Sam Forkert, the Bays made a big statement in game one.

The Bays picked up two runs in the second inning and another three runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead off Islander starter Ryan Jorgenson.

Sister Bay poured it on with Krause's blast in the fifth and Forkert's opposite field home run in the seventh inning.

Krause got the win going 4.1 innings and allowing three runs in the fifth before Matt Hecht closed out the game going the final 3.2 innings.

Hecht was 4/4 from the plate with a double and walk to lead the Bay's attack.  Tom Sawyer added two doubles as well.

Troy Jorgenson had a double for Washington Island as the Islanders could only manage a few hits off of Krause and Hecht all day.

Glory returns to UWGB for Amateur Cup showdown

The Green Bay Glory will play at a familiar ground on Sunday when its men's team hosts a third-round match in the Amateur Cup.

The Glory will play at Vlora FC on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Santaga Stadium on the campus of UW-Green Bay. The first game in Green Bay Glory men's soccer history went down as a win on Sunday, beating Bateaux FC 3-0 in the second round of the Amateur Cup at Regis High School in Eau Claire. Edgar Heredia Victoria scored the first goal in team history in the 13th minute, giving the Glory a 1-0 lead at the break. The Glory would add two more tallies in the second half, with Keven Sosa scoring in the 50th minute and Osvaldo Ramírez adding insurance in the 64th minute.

Cornielle Tosses A Gem for Wisconsin in Shutout Win

Alexander Cornielle’s last time on the mound for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers was May 4 at home against the Great Lakes Loons and he tossed six scoreless innings with six strikeouts.  Cornielle returned to the mound at Modern Woodmen Park against the Quad Cities River Bandits one week later and went seven scoreless frames with seven strikeouts to lead the Rattlers to a 2-0 victory.

Scoring was at a premium on Saturday night, and it would be the Rattlers (20-12) who struck first.  Dylan O’Rae tripled to center to start the Wisconsin fourth inning.  Gregory Barrios drove in O’Rae with a sacrifice fly to put the Rattlers in front on the scoreboard.

The River Bandits (19-13) had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning against Cornielle.  The right-hander got the second out on a routine fly to Luis Lara in centerfield.  The final out was a bit more difficult as Lara raced back to the warning track to make a leaping catch on a line drive off the bat of Justin Johnson.

Henry Williams, the River Bandits starter, was almost as good as Cornielle.  Williams allowed one run on two hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Wisconsin got an insurance run in the top of the seventh after Williams left the game. Jheremy Vargas doubled to start the inning against Cooper McKeehan.  Eduarqui Fernández followed with a double to left to send Vargas across the plate for a 2-0 lead.  That would turn out to be more than enough for the Rattlers.  However, the added cushion left a little wiggle room.

Cornielle got the first out of the seventh inning on his seventh strikeout.  However, an infield single by Jared Dickey brought the tying run to the plate.  Cornielle didn’t buckle.  He got Dustin Dickerson to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Craig Yoho was called into the game for the bottom of the eighth to protect the lead for the Rattlers.  He gave up a lead-off single to bring the tying run to the plate.  Yoho, who pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn the save in game one of the series on Tuesday, stayed calm and got the next batter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.  Yoho ended the inning with a strikeout to send the game to the ninth with the Rattlers still up 2-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, Yoho retired the side in order, including the last two via the strikeout to close out his fifth save of the season.

Cornielle is 2-0 in his last two starts as he has tossed thirteen scoreless innings with thirteen strikeouts.  In the game against the Bandits, he allowed two hits and walked three to earn his third win of the season.  No River Bandit base runner past second base in the game.

Additionally, the Timber Rattlers defense was flawless again.  Wisconsin has not committed an error in nine consecutive games.  The Rattlers have only been charged with two errors in the last fifteen games.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.  Edwin Jimenez (4-0, 5.74) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Quad Cities will send Shane Panzini (1-0, 4.34) to the mound as their starter.  Game time is 1:00pm.

Blizzard returns home against Oilers

The Green Bay Blizzard will try to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they welcome the Tulsa Oilers to the Resc Center.

The Blizzard saw their winning streak end on the road last weekend when the Sioux Falls Storm won 46-38. The Storm outscored the Blizzard 22-15 in the second half to take the game weeks after losing to the Blizzard at the Resch Center. Quarterback Max Meylor accumulated less than 200 yards, but scored four total touchdowns in the loss.

Kickoff is set at 3:05 p.m.

Bays and Islanders battle on 105.1 The Goat in rematch

In a rematch of last season’s playoff championship game, the defending champs Sister Bay Bays will play host to the Washington Island Islanders this Sunday from Sister Bay Village Park.

The Bays defeated the Islanders 5-2 in the championship game last year behind the pitching of Sam Forkert who gave up just two runs on five hits.  Sister Bay captured both the regular season and playoff traveling trophies.

Sister Bay will hopefully count on Forkert and Matt Hecht to carry the pitching load again this year to bring home back-to-back championships.  Ryan Jorgenson and Matt Foss pitched last year for the Islanders and will look again to shut down a potent Bay's attack.

Sunday’s game will start at 1:30 p.m. with the pregame show scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on 105.1 The Goat and streamed on the New Radio Sports Network.  Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will have the call from Sister Bay.

Bandits Get Another Big Blast to Beat Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattler were left with a feeling of déjà vu after Friday’s 7-3 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park.  For the second night in row, the River Bandits hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to propel them to a victory over the Rattlers.  Both teams have won two games in the series with two games remaining in the six-game set with both teams tied at the top of the West Division with identical records.

Quad Cities (19-12) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first inning as Rattlers starting pitcher Yujanyer Herrera gave up a lead-off single and two walks.  Herrera threw a wild pitch to let a run score and walked another batter with two outs to reload the bases before getting a strikeout to end the frame with minimal damage despite tossing 34 pitches.

The River Bandits added to their lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Carson Roccaforte.

The Timber Rattlers (19-12) scored in the top of the fourth.  Dylan O’Rae started the inning with a triple for Wisconsin’s first hit off Quad Cities starter Frankie Mozzicato.  Luke Adams drove in O’Rae with a sacrifice fly.

Wisconsin took the lead in the top of the fifth.  Mozzicato walked Jesús Chirinos on five pitches to start the inning.  Jheremy Vargas, who turned 21 today, launched a home run to the top of the berm beyond the fence in left to put the Rattlers up 3-2.

Herrera went back out for the bottom of the fifth inning and recorded his fifth strikeout as he reached 89 pitches to end his night.

Chase Costello entered the game from the Wisconsin bullpen.  He gave up a single before getting the second out of the inning.  However, a walk and an infield single loaded the bases for Jack Pineda.  Costello fell behind in the count with three straight balls.  He hit the target for a strike on the next pitch.  Then, Pineda cracked a long home run to right to surge the River Bandits into a 6-3 lead.

On Thursday, Jared Dickey hit a bases-loaded homer in the bottom of the fifth to give Quad Cities a 7-1 lead on the way to an 8-1 victory.

Wisconsin pitchers have allowed three grand slams this season.  They have also given up at least one homer in seven straight games.

The Timber Rattlers tried to rally in the eighth inning.  Luis Lara walked, and Gregory Barrios singled with one out against reliever Oscar Rayo.  Both runners were left stranded as Rayo go a flyout and a popup to end the threat.

Wisconsin went down quietly in the ninth and were held to three hits in the game for their second consecutive loss.  The Rattlers defense played their eighth consecutive errorless game.

The Timber Rattlers and River Bandits are set to play game five of their series on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Alexander Cornielle (2-1, 5.01) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The River Bandits have announced Henry Williams (1-0, 3.91) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:00pm.

Hope for 2024 college football game at Lambeau dashed

After being rumored earlier this year, the dream of a college football game at Lambeau Field will have to wait until 2026.

Earlier this year, Louie Vaccher from WildcatReport.com reported that Northwestern Athletic Director Derrick Gragg told alumni in New York City that the football team will play a home game at Lambeau Field during the 2024 season. Northwestern began demolishing Ryan Field earlier this month to pave the way for a new stadium to open in 2026. No team was announced as the "visiting team," but Vaccher suggested it could have been against Wisconsin, which Northwestern was scheduled to be the "home team" against in 2024. The outcry from displacing a home game in enemy territory, among other issues, led Northwestern officials to explore and eventually approve plans to build temporary stands on campus along its lakeshore. Five games, including the Wisconsin matchup, will be hosted at the facility that is only expected to hold approximately 15,000 fans.

Notre Dame and Wisconsin are still expected to play at Lambeau in 2026.

Big Blast Sends Bandits Past Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers followed a familiar pattern early in Thursday’s game against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park.  The Rattlers grabbed an early lead, got some good defense, and decent pitching.  However, Quad Cities broke that pattern with a big fifth inning that featured a grand slam from Jared Dickey and the River Bandits went on to an 8-1 win.

Luke Adams hit a lead-off home run in the second inning to put Wisconsin (19-11) ahead.  Adams lined a 2-0 pitch from Steven Zobac over the wall in left for his third home run of the season.  The Timber Rattlers have scored first in 21 of their thirty games played this season.

The Rattlers got a pair of one-out singles in the top of the third but couldn’t add to their lead.  Wisconsin’s offense had only one more hit after the third inning.

The River Bandits (18-12) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Trevor Werner started the frame with a double, just the second hit of the game for Quad Cities.  Brett Squires singled to right to drive in Werner with the tying run.  Dickey doubled to left with one out and Squires scored from first for a 2-1 lead.

Quad Cities took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth.  Carter Jensen and Werner singled with one out to chase Wisconsin starter Will Rudy.  Joe Hernandez took over and walked Squires to load the bases.  Kale Emshoff lined an 0-2 pitch from Hernandez to center for an RBI single.  Dickey capped the inning with a line drive homer to right for a grand slam and a 7-1 lead.  The slam gave Dickey five RBI on Thursday night.

Squires, who hit two home runs on Wednesday night, hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the seventh off Jake Polancic to account for the final run of the game.

Wisconsin pitchers have given up at least one homer in six straight games.

Rattlers outfielder Luis Lara was 1-for-3 in the game and extended his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.

The Timber Rattlers defense played a clean game defensively for their sixth consecutive errorless game.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Yujanyer Herrera (0-0, 0.00) is set to make his first start for the Timber Rattlers.  Frankie Mozzicato (1-1, 0.95) has been named the starter for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:30pm.

The National Football League is bucking its recent trend and holding off on releasing its 2024 schedule.

While the schedule is short on details, some things are known about the Packers' 2024 slate. The Packers will host Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Arizona, San Francisco, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and Miami while visiting Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, L.A. Rams, Seattle, Jacksonville, and Tennessee. Another "road game" will occur against Philadelphia in Brazil on September 6th.

Bats Rally and Defense Secures Wisconsin Victory

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead over the Quad Cities River Bandits Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  The Bandits got close, but another flawless performance by the Rattlers defenders put the 5-4 decision in the win column.

Wisconsin (19-10) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Gregory Barrios and Luke Adams had consecutive doubles with two outs to give the Rattlers a run.

Jadher Areinamo made a sweet defensive play to end the bottom of the first inning and started the top of the second by stretching a routine single into a double.  Tayden Hall moved Areinamo to third with a ground out.  Eduarqui Fernández drove in Areinamo with another ground out for a 2-0 lead.

Patricio Aquino, the Wisconsin starting pitcher, was cruising through 3-2/3 inning before struggling to find the final out of the fourth.  He hit Jared Dickey on a 1-2 pitch and walked Dustin Dickerson on a 3-2 pitch.  Aquino went to a full count on Jack Pineda before Pineda singled to right to get Dickey home to score the River Bandits first run.

Quad Cities (17-12) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning against reliever Mark Manfredi.  The Wisconsin left-hander walked the lead-off hitter, struck out the next two batters, and was 1-2 to Brett Squires.  However, Squires lined a home run to right and gave the Bandits a 3-2 advantage.

Ben Kudrna, the River Bandits starting pitcher, worked around a one-out single in the top of the sixth inning and turned the 3-2 lead over to his bullpen for the seventh.

Brandon Johnson took over for the Bandits.  The right-hander had made nine appearances with three walks and 25 strikeouts over twelve scoreless innings before Wednesday.  The Timber Rattlers were not fazed by this information.

Areinamo started the inning with a single.  Tayden Hall walked.  Then, Fernández snapped an 0-for-14 slide with a bloop single to left to load the bases.

Terence Doston was next, and he sent a fly ball to deep center.  All three runners tagged to move up a base with Areinamo scoring the tying run.  Luis Lara lined the next pitch down the line in left for a two-run double and a 5-3 Wisconsin lead.

Squires took Manfredi deep again in the eighth inning.  This time it was a lead-off homer to cut Wisconsin’s lead to a single run.  Aaron Rund took over for Manfredi after the home run and retired the next three batters to send the game to the ninth with the Rattlers up 5-4.

Yerlin Rodriguez was called in to close the game in the bottom of the ninth.  The hard-throwing righty got the first out, but gave up a bloop single to Omar Hernandez, the number nine batter in the Bandits lineup, to bring the winning run to the plate with the top of the order.  Then, the Timber Ratters defense took over the game to secure the victory.

Carson Roccaforte lined a 1-0 pitch to the gap in right-center that looked to be a game-tying extra-base hit.  Fernández raced back, reached up, and pulled in the ball with a back-handed catch for the second out.

Carter Jensen was the last chance for the River Bandits.  He sent a grounder up the middle.  Dylan O’Rae flagged down the ball on the outfield grass and fired to Barrios covering second to just get Hernandez with the force play for the final out.

The Timber Rattlers have played six consecutive errorless games.  The have only been charged with two errors in their last twelve games.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Will Rudy (1-1, 4.58) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Steven Zobac (1-1, 3.52) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:30pm.

Glory men earn first win

The first game in Green Bay Glory men's soccer history went down as a win on Sunday, beating Bateaux FC 3-0 in the second round of the Amateur Cup at Regis High School in Eau Claire.

Edgar Heredia Victoria scored the first goal in team history in the 13th minute, giving the Glory a 1-0 lead at the break. The Glory would add two more tallies in the second half, with Keven Sosa scoring in the 50th minute and Osvaldo Ramírez adding insurance in the 64th minute.

The home opener for the Glory men is May 18th, and both Glory squads take the pitch together for a Coed Kick-Off game on May 15th.

Great Lakes Gets Late Runs to Beat Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got out to a fast start, but the Great Lakes Loons caught Wisconsin in the middle innings and scored two late runs to edge the Rattlers 5-3 in the series finale at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams had lead-off doubles in the first inning.

Alex Freeland started the Loons half of the first with a double and he went to third on a wild pitch with one out.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Edwin Jimenez stranded Freeland at third when he struck out the final two batters of the inning.

Luis Lara doubled to start the Wisconsin first.  Dylan O’Rae sent a grounder to third with one out, but the throw to first was wild.  Lara scored and O’Rae went to second on the play.  Jadher Areinamo added to the lead with a two-out, RBI single to center.

The Timber Rattlers (17-10) have outscored opponents 33-14 in the first inning this season.

Jimenez retired twelve straight Loons after the double by Freeland.  Chris Newell snapped that streak and the shutout with a long home run to right to start the top of the fifth inning.   The home run was Newell’s sixth of the season.  It was also the eighth home run by the Loons in the series.

Ram?n Rodríguez just missed a home run to start the Wisconsin half of the fifth.  The Rattlers catcher cracked a double off the very top of the wall by the Great Lakes bullpen.  O’Rae cashed in the opportunity with a two-out hit to left for a 3-1 lead.

The Loons (18-9) got Jimenez in trouble right away in the top of the sixth inning.  Jake Vogel singled and Freeland followed with an RBI double.  Jimenez got the first out of the inning on a grounder to the right side of the infield that allowed Vogel to take second.  Then, Thayron Liranzo drew a walk to put runners on the corners.

Kyle Nevin hit a deep drive to center and Lara made a great running catch for the second out.  However, Vogel was able to tag and score from third to tie the game on the play.

The eighth inning was a roller coaster for both teams.

In the top of the eighth, Jake Vogel started the frame with a double but was thrown out trying to steal third base for the first out.  Wisconsin reliever Chase Costello walked the next two batters, including a close 3-2 pitch that was called a ball to Noah Miller.  Liranzo blooped the next pitch to left for an RBI single and the Loons had their first lead of the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, the first two Rattlers reached base.  Gregory Barrios started with a single and Dylan O’Rae followed with a walk to put the tying and lead runs on base against reliever Christian Suarez.

Suarez ran the count full to Luke Adams, who grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.  Suarez got Areinamo to end the inning and strand Barrios at third with the tying run.

The Loons added an insurance run on the top of the ninth against Stiven Cruz and it was Freeland…again.  The Loons lead-off hitter singled with two outs for the run to give Great Lakes a 5-3 lead.

Lucas Wepf set down the Rattlers in order in the ninth for his second save of the series.

Freeland was 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI for the Loons.  Great Lakes won four of the six games in the series to hand Wisconsin its first series loss of 2024.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with a series against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa.  Wisconsin and Quad Cities are both 17-9 and tied at the top of the Midwest League’s West Division entering the six-game set.

Tate Kuehner (0-1, 7.36) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin on Tuesday.  The River Bandits have not announced their starter.  Game time is 6:30pm.

Rudy & Herrera Turn In Stellar Pitching Performances in Rattlers Victory

The Great Lakes Loons scored fifteen runs on 26 hits in winning the first two games of their series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium this week.  Wisconsin pitchers Will Rudy and Yujanyer Herrera made sure the Loons offense never got up a head of steam on Thursday night in the Rattlers 4-1 victory.  Rudy and Herrera combined to strike out eleven with no walks and only allowed two hits to the powerful Great Lakes lineup.

Wisconsin (16-8) loaded the bases against Great Lakes starter Peter Heubeck with one out in the first inning on a walk, a single, and another walk.  Matt Wood got the first run of the game home on a fielder’s choice and the Rattlers had a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Luis Lara singled and stole second to start the frame.  Wood knocked in Lara with a two-out single for the 2-0 lead.

The Rattlers doubled their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Gregory Barrios walked, went to second on a pickoff attempt that got away, and took third on a passed ball.  Luke Adams would walk to put runners on the corners.  Then, the duo pulled a double steal with Adams drawing a throw to second and Barrios beating the return throw to the plate.  Eduarqui Fernández padded the lead moments later with a triple to right to score Adams for the 4-0 advantage.

Rudy retired the first sixteen batters he faced and only went to a three-ball count on an opposing batter twice.

Luis Rodriguez got the first hit for the Loons on a single up the middle with one out in the sixth.  Great Lakes (16-8) got on the board with a two-out, RBI triple by Alex Freeland.  Rudy retired Noah Miller for the final out of the sixth to turn the game over the bullpen after he made 67 pitches (50 strikes) over six excellent innings.  This game marked the third time in his pro career for Rudy to pitch six innings in a game.

Herrera, who had been called up from the Carolina Mudcats on Tuesday, entered the game from the Wisconsin bullpen to start the top of the seventh inning.  Herrera didn’t just close out the game.  He slammed the door on the Loons and their eight-game winning streak.  Herrera retired all nine Great Lakes hitters he faced and struck out five, including the side in order in the top of the ninth, to record a save in his Timber Rattlers debut.

Barrios, who singled in the first inning for Wisconsin, extended his hitting streak to seven games, the longest hitting streak by a Rattler this season.

The Timber Rattlers also stole seven bases in eight attempts during Thursday’s game.  They are 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts in the first three games of the series with the Loons.

Game four of the series is Friday night.  Brian Fitzpatrick (2-0, 2.77) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Loons have named Maddux Bruns (0-0, 5.40) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The first friendly was set for last night (05/01/24), but no details were shared. The team will announce individual game details in the coming days and weeks.

Rattlers Rally Falls Just Short in 9-8 Loss to Great Lakes

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers found themselves down 8-0 to the red-hot Great Lakes Loons on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  The Rattlers battled back to within a run twice, but ultimately fell 9-8 to Great Lakes.  Noah Miller led Great Lakes with two homers and three RBI in support of five scoreless innings from Jared Karros, who had to watch as his bullpen almost gave the game to Wisconsin.

The Loons (16-7) started fast.  Wisconsin starter Patricio Aquino walked lead-off hitter Alex Freeland to begin the game.  Miller followed with a two-run home run to right on a 1-2 pitch and Great Lakes was up two batters into the game on Miller’s second homer of the series.

Aquino hit Jake Vogel with one out in the top of the second and Freeland made him pay for it by lining an RBI double to right-center to give the Loons a 3-0.  Chris Newell made it 4-0 in favor of the visitors in the top of the third with a lead-off home run to center.  An error on a pickoff throw to third with two outs in the fourth allowed Vogel to score from third.

Great Lakes had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the fifth against reliever Tyler Wehrle.  He got Nelson Quiroz to send a weak grounder up the first base line.  Wehrle tried to get the out at the plate and threw wildly.  Two runs scored and the Rattlers were down 7-0.

Karros, the Great Lakes starting pitcher, didn’t let a Wisconsin batter past second base in his five shutout innings.  The right-hander allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out two in his five scoreless innings.

Miller hit a lead-off homer in the top of the sixth inning and Wisconsin was staring at an 8-0 hole.  Miller is 6-for-10 with three homers and six RBI in the first two games of the series at Wisconsin.

The Timber Rattlers (15-8) began climbing out of that hole with two runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Madison Jeffrey.
