Ports hold off Cubs' rally on opening day

The West Jacksonport Ports resisted a rally from the Institute Cubs to win their opening-day matchup 9-6.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the fourth inning before the Ports scored seven times thanks in part to drawing four walks and three doubles from Jack deYoung, Alec Schartner, and Drew Tanck. Woody Schartner went 2-4 on the day.

The Cubs went on a tear late to score three runs in the ninth inning to make it a 9-6 game, but they could not get any closer. Jaeger Brusky went 3-4 and Will Hartman finished 2-2 at the plate.

Tanck picked up the win on the mound for the Ports, while Hartman was tagged with the loss.
