Gamblers make roster moves

The 2026-2027 Green Bay Gamblers are beginning to take shape.

Several players have been signing agreements with the team over the last few weeks to suit up for the Gamblers. The signings come amid the USHL announcing that they are expanding to the west coast with new teams joining the fray in the near future and the Gamblers promoting their home schedule release with the first Resch Center tilt set for Tuesday, October 6th against Cedar Rapids. You can see some of the roster acquisitions below:

Rockers let Woodchucks walk in third straight loss

The Green Bay Rockers walked nine and committed two errors in an 11-4 loss to the Wausau Woodchucks on Thursday for their third straight defeat.

The Woodchucks scored at least two runs in four innings, including a four run first inning. It was 9-1 Woodchucks when the Rockers staged their biggest rally with Payton Fort slugging a three-run homer to make it 9-4. The Woodchucks tallied two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game away.

Max Humphrey and David Ballenilla each had two hits in the loss while Dom Bello registered the other RBI in addition to Fort's three. Will Harrigan took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (6 ER) on three hits and four walks while striking out five across three innings of work.

The Rockers are back home on Friday to face the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

Eight-Run Second Inning is Enough for Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers did something with their 9-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field that they haven’t done since their 2024 run to the Midwest League’s Western Division title.  The win was their fifth consecutive victory, and they did it convincingly with early offense and the longest start in the professional career of Ethan Dorchies.

The Timber Rattlers (39-28 overall, 5-0 second half) sent twelve men to the plate in the second inning and scored eight runs to grab control of the game.  Juan Baez started the scoring with an RBI double, the first of four run scoring doubles in the frame.

Josiah Ragsdale, who extended his on-base streak to 29 games with a single in the first, drove in two more runs with a double.

Luis Peña, in his first game back in the Wisconsin lineup since June 9, blooped a double to right that was just fair to drive in two more runs for a 5-0 lead.  Peña went 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch, scored a run, and drove in two before Luiyin Alastre entered the game as a planned defensive replacement for him in the top of the eighth inning.

Back in the second inning, Eric Bitonti added an RBI single with two outs for variety and a 6-0 lead.  Tayden Hall capped the outburst with a two-run double to left and an 8-0 advantage.

The Rattlers added one more run on an RBI fielder’s choice by Daniel Dickinson in the fourth inning.

That was more than enough for Dorchies.  The right-hander set a new single-game high for his professional career – and for the Timber Rattlers this season – by tossing seven innings.  He walked one, struck out two, and allowed five hits.  The only run scored by the Kernels (31-38, 0-5) came in the sixth inning.  Eduardo Tait, who had two hits and a walk, singled to start the sixth.  He moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a flyout to center.  Jacob McCombs, who also had two hits for Cedar Rapids, had an RBI single to make the scored 9-1.

Dorchies went back out for the seventh inning and pitched around a one-out single with a force out at second and a grounder to third.

Quinton Low was the only Rattler reliever used on Thursday night as he struck out three over two scoreless innings to close out the win.

Every Rattler hitter reached base at least one time in the game.  Dickinson walked twice and scored twice in the second inning for the Rattlers.

Wisconsin will try to match a six-game winning streak they had from July 6 through July 13, 2024 when they take the field for game four of the series Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Wande Torres (4-5, 5.68) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Ivran Romero (2-3, 9.63) has been named as the starter for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Friday is game two of Udder Tuggers Weekend at the stadium.   Players and coaches will wear their 2026 Udder Tuggers jerseys on Friday.

Four players names to WFSCA All-State Softball Team

Four local players were named to the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) All-State teams this week.

In Division 2/3, Kewaunee's Breanna Riha was named to the All-State Second Team. She was named to All-District 2 First Team with teammate Vivian Bootz, Luxemburg-Casco's Alayna Deprez, and Southern Door's Alanah Kaye and Madyson Counard joining her as honorable mention members in the medium-sized school division.

In Division 4/5, Algoma's Natalie Ray (honorable mention) and Macie Zimmerman (second team) were both named All-State. The pair were also named All-District 2 First Team performers in the small school division.

Glory women fall late to Torrent

A stoppage time goal gave the Green Bay Glory an unhappy trip home on Wednesday as they fell to the Milwaukee Torrent 3-2.

The match was tied 1-1 at the break and 2-2 entering stoppage time before Ellie Rebman scored the game winner just as the lights were turning off at Hart Park.

The Glory women will head to Chicago for its final match of the season against Chicago Kics.

Rockers get rained out

The Green Bay Rockers will head west on Thursday after having its home matchup against the Wausau Woodchucks get rained out.

The game was pushed back more than hour before it was ultimately called due to the area getting approximately three inches of rain. The Rockers and Woodchucks will meet again Thursday night in Wausau, but they will make up Wednesday game on July 12th at 12:05 p.m.

Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball secures home-and-home with Duke

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball will not just get to play in one of the most historic arenas in all of college basketball, it will get a return date from their hosts.

The Phoenix announced on Wednesday it reached an agreement to play Duke in a home-and-home series that will begin this season with a trip to Cameron Indoor Arena Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The Blue Devils will make the return trip to Green Bay during the 2027-2028 season.

No dates were mentioned as a part of the announcement.

Four Homers & a Strong Start from Knoth Push Wisconsin Past the Kernels

Josh Knoth pitched five solid innings and was backed up with a late offensive explosion that included four home runs as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 12-6.  Marco Dinges went 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI to lead Rattlers to the Wednesday afternoon win at Neuroscience Group Field.

Wisconsin (38-28 overall, 4-0 second half) scored three runs on five hits in the first inning.  Josiah Ragsdale started the rally with a lead-off single and an errant pickoff throw allowed him to take second.    Dinges reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners.  Braylon Payne drove in the first run when he grounded into a force play at second to allow Ragsdale to score.

The rally continued with consecutive singles by Eric Bitonti and Daniel Dickinson to load the bases.  Daniel Guilarte cashed in two runs with a two-out single on an 0-2 pitch for a 3-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids (31-37, 0-4) scored in the fourth inning.  Brandon Winokur doubled with one out.  Caden Kendle followed with a single to center to drive in Winokur.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Josh Knoth got the final two outs of the frame on a pair of grounders to shortstop to maintain a 3-1 lead.

That run in the fourth was the only one Knoth allowed on Wednesday afternoon.  The right-hander finished his day with a perfect fifth inning.  Knoth worked five innings in a game for the first time this season.  He walked none and struck out two to put himself in line for his first Midwest League win.

Wisconsin’s offense got going again in the fifth inning.  Dickinson, who was on base four times on Wednesday, walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Luis Castillo for a 4-1 lead.

The Kernels didn’t make it easy.  They had runners at the corners with no outs with Yerlin Rodriguez on the mound in the top of the sixth inning.  Winokur hit a high chopper off the plate in front of the mound.  Rodriguez fielded the ball and elected to come to the plate.  The throw was high, the run scored, and the Kernels still had two runners on with no outs after cutting their deficit to two runs.

Rodriguez got the first out on a strikeout but a single by Yasser Mercedes loaded the bases.  Danny De Andrade’s sacrifice fly drove in a run and moved Winokur to third base.

Cedar Rapids tried to steal a run to tie the game.  Mercedes broke for second and drew a throw.  Dickinson, playing second base, cut in front of the bag, and threw back to the plate in plenty of time to get Winokur, who had tried to steal home

Dinges and Bitonti provided the power for the Rattlers to pull away from Cedar Rapids in the bottom of the sixth.  Dinges cracked a home run on the first pitch of the inning over the wall in center.  Braylon Payn singled before Bitonti cleared the batter’s eye beyond the wall in center for a two-run homer and a 7-3 lead.

Henry Kusiak homered in the top of the seventh for the Kernels against Jason Woodward.

The Rattlers answered again in the bottom of the seventh. Ragsdale doubled to bring Dinges back to the plate.  Dinges cleared the scoreboard beyond the wall in left for his second homer of the day and a 9-4 lead.

Ragsdale went 3-for-5 with a walk, two doubles, and two runs scored as he moved his on-base streak to 28 games.  He has scored 31 runs during the streak.

Winokur hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to cut into Wisconsin’s lead again.

Juan Baez put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Tanner Perry pitched a scoreless ninth to close out Wisconsin’s fourth straight win to open the second half of the season.

Wednesday marked the fifth time the Rattlers have hit four homers in a game this season, but it was the first time they have completed that feat at home.

The seventeen hits collected by Wisconsin are the most they have had in a home game in 2026.  Their season high is nineteen from a game at Peoria on May 10.

Knoth did earn the win, his first since he was a member of the Carolina Mudcats in 2024.  Knoth had missed the 2025 season with an injury and didn’t join Wisconsin until May 21 of this season.

The series continues Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Ethan Dorchies (1-5, 6.48) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cesar Lares (0-1, 6.97) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Board Approves Changes to Winter Sports Season Regulations

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved limited use of the shot clock in basketball for the 2026-27 season and acted on other recommendations from the Winter Coaches Advisory Committees affecting season regulations and membership policies at its June meeting today.

Starting next season, schools will be permitted to use a 35-second shot clock for nonconference varsity boys and girls basketball games if there is mutual agreement between the teams, as permitted by NFHS rule adaptations. The Board also discussed full implementation of the shot clock in 2028-29, which would require approval by the membership at the Annual Meeting next April.

The Board approved basketball Tournament Procedures in the Season Regulations to adjust the enrollment cutlines for divisional placement in the five divisions, beginning with the 2027-28 season. In addition, the higher-seeded team will wear white jerseys and be designated the home team in all State Tournament games beginning next season.

Other changes to the Tournament Procedures eliminated two regulations. The first removes language limiting a player to only two halves when a one-half junior varsity game is followed by a two-half varsity game. The second removes a provision preventing teams participating in the State Tournament from moving down to a smaller-school division the following year, even if their enrollment would have placed them in that division.

The Board approved four recommendations affecting the wrestling Tournament Procedures in the Season Regulations. Dates for the girls regionals and sectionals will be moved up one week to Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, respectively, in 2027.

The Board also adopted the details for the Girls Wrestling Team Tournament, beginning in 2026-27. Sixty-four teams will compete in the Tournament Series, with the top two scoring teams from each individual regional tournament advancing to the sectional team tournament. Teams will be seeded at sectionals by applying the Team Tournament seeding formula to their individual regional lineup. Teams advancing from the team sectional will compete in the State Team Tournament, which will coincide with the Boys Team Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, at the La Crosse Center.

In addition, sectional pairings for the Girls Wrestling Individual Tournament will be determined using an annual regional rotation that pairs regional champions against regional runners-up in all weight classes. This prevents student-athletes from the same two regionals from meeting in every sectional semifinal.

The third wrestling recommendation approved by the Board standardizes the seeding process for both the boys and girls individual and team Tournament Series. The new language also clarifies how previous season State Tournament results are applied when seeding the individual tournament. The fourth recommendation clarifies how the current season's State Individual Tournament results are applied when seeding the boys and girls team tournaments and how the wild cards for the boys State Team Tournament are determined using the State Tournament management program.

Two hockey Tournament Procedures changes were approved by the Board. The first alters the overtime process. If a game remains tied following an eight-minute, five-on-five sudden-victory overtime period, the ice will be resurfaced, followed by a 17-minute, five-on-five sudden-victory overtime. If a winner is still not determined, the ice will be resurfaced again and a five-minute, four-on-four sudden-victory period will be played, with goalies switching ends. The second change implements a four-official system for all sectional and State Tournament games.

The Board approved a new timeline for the conference realignment process. Beginning with the 2027-28 conference realignment cycle, non-football realignment will be conducted every four years. The football-only conference realignment cycle will remain on its current two-year schedule. In addition, the Board approved three fast-track conference realignment requests, effective in 2026-27. Rhinelander will transition from independent status in girls golf to the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Portage will move from independent status to the Badger Conference in girls golf, girls swimming and diving, and boys tennis. Racine St. Catherine's will join the Southeast Conference in girls golf after competing as an independent.

Other agenda items approved by the Board included a resolution to continue spending until the 2026-27 budget is approved, winter season sports financial statements, the 2026 Annual Meeting minutes, the 2026-27 calendar dates, and the general fund financial statements and payments for May.

Other discussion and report topics included the recently completed spring sports tournaments; continued work by the Calendar & Contact Ad Hoc Committee; the June Jam and Summer Slam events; activities of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team; ongoing efforts to recruit and retain licensed officials; discussions by the Classification Committee; potential changes to the conference realignment process; an update on the progress of the WIAA Foundation; and a reminder about the New Athletic Directors' Workshop on July 20.

Luke Francois and Todd Fergot, representing the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, presented a proposal to the Board supporting the expansion of the State Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments. The Board also received liaison reports from Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Kyle LeMieux of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association.

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a private, voluntary, unincorporated, nonprofit organization. Its membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 514 senior high schools and 36 junior high/middle-level schools.

Rockers' skid continues in La Crosse

A RBI groundout by Mana Lau Kong proved to be the difference as the Green Bay Rockers fell to the La Crosse Loggers 5-4 in a second straight defeat.

Trailing 2-0 early, the Rockers rallied for one run in the second inning and three more in the third before the Loggers tied the game in their half of the frame. The Rockers could not generate much else after that in the rain-shortened game as they were held hitless the rest of the game.

Six different players tallied hits for the Rockers with Andrew Raymond driving in two runs while Max Humphrey and Josh Martin drove in the others. Alex Heintz took the loss, allowing five runs (5 ER) on three hits and four walks while striking out five across four innings of work.

The Rockers are back at home on Wednesday to start a home-and-home against the Wausau Woodchucks. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m., weather permitting.

Rattlers Run Winning Streak to Three with 5-0 Shutout

Three Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-0 on Tuesday night a Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers scored all of their runs in the fourth inning as they stayed unbeaten to open the second half of the Midwest League season.

Wisconsin (37-28 overall, 3-0 second half) grabbed the lead in the fourth inning.  Daniel Guilarte and Juan Baez had back-to-back RBI singles with one out.  Later in the inning, Marco Dinges stepped up with the bases loaded and two outs.  He grounded a single to center to score two runs.  A wild throw to third wound up in the Kernels dugout to allow another run to score and Dinges to take third with a 5-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Braylon Owens.  The Kernels (31-36, 0-3) barely threatened to score against the Wisconsin starting pitcher as they had one at bat with a runner in scoring position with Owens on the mound..  Owens worked five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked one, hit a batter, and struck out eight before turning the game over to the bullpen.

The bullpen was almost flawless.  Garrett Hodges was the first Rattler reliver into the game.  He retired the side in order in the sixth.  In the seventh, a lead-off walk was quickly erased on a double play with the third out to follow a few moments later.

Peyton Niksch took over as he retired the Kernels in order in the top of the eighth inning.  A one-out double by Eduardo Tait on a flyball lost in the twilight put Wisconsin’s fifth shutout of the season in jeopardy before Niksch set down the final two batters of the game.

Josiah Ragsdale drew a walk and scored a run in the decisive fifth inning for Wisconsin.  His on-base streak moved to 27 games.  Ragsdale has scored 29 runs during the streak.

Owens has struck out 76 opposing batters this season.  He is second in the Midwest League in that category, trailing only Beloit’s Liomar Martinez, who has 79 on the season.

Wisconsin is nine games over .500 for the first time this season after Thursday’s win.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Josh Knoth (0-0, 2.70) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cedar Rapids has named Riley Quick (0-1, 4.55) as their starter.  Game time is 12:10pm.

Rockers cut down by Loggers

The Green Bay Rockers' pitching staff was throttled for the second time in three games on Monday as the team fell to the LaCrosse Loggers 12-2 on Monday.

The game was tied at 0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning when the Loggers tallied the only three runs they would need. They scored runs in the game's final five innings, including crooked numbers in four of them. It was 6-0 when the Rockers finally scored a run in the seventh on a Parker Martin double only to have the Loggers score three runs. It was the same story in the eighth inning with the Loggers plating three runs after Mike Dee singled in John Handy.

Martin paced the Rockers with three of the team's 10 hits while Coleman Lewis recorded two of his own. Alex LePage saw his record dip to 0-3 as he gave up three runs (3 ER) on two hits and two walks while striking out six in his four innings of work.

Kolberg Wins Battle of Undefeateds 7-6 in 10 Innings on 105.1 The GOAT

A well-attended Father's Day afternoon played host to one of the most anticipated first-half games on the schedule. The 5-0 Kolberg Braves traveled north to take on the 5-0 Sister Bay Bays on 105.1 The GOAT.

The first two innings between the Bays and Braves were a pitcher's duel, with Sam Forkert throwing two scoreless innings, retiring all 6 batters in order, and Tyler Neinas only allowing one run, on an RBI Sacrifice Fly from Sawyer Johnson.  It was the third, however, where Kolberg was able to do their damage, as a leadoff double from Devin Schinktgen and a walk from Trevor Hawkey would result in Schinktgen stealing home after Hawkey took second base with a throw. An Austen Rohe RBI single would make the game 2-1 after 3 innings.

Tyler Neinas would exit the game completely in the bottom of the third inning, with Trevor Reinhardt coming on in relief, surprisingly multiple innings earlier than expected. Reinhardt would find his groove early, however, as he would retire the first six batters he would see in order, and would scatter 10 strikeouts over the seven innings he would pitch.

Kolberg would do more damage in the fifth and seventh innings, as back to back singles from Hawkey and Reinhardt would result in a 2 RBI double to the right-center field fence from Rohe, making the game 4-1. Rohe would end the game as the hit leader for both sides, ending the day with 4 hits and 3 RBIs. Rohe's third hit of the day, partnered with a Jack Peterson single, would both count as runs for Kolberg, as Austen Dart recorded a sacrifice fly and Nick Lecaptain recorded an RBi single.

It was 6-1 Kolberg, and first place looked good as theirs. After a run in the eighth for Sister Bay, cutting the lead to 4, Austen Rohe would enter in the bottom of the ninth looking to end the game. After getting the first two batters out, Carl Burgess and Alex Laughlin would have back-to-back walks, and Rohe's day would be over, re-enter Trevor Reinhardt. Reinhardt would face Stew Larsen, who recorded an RBI single, making the game 6-3. Then Spencer Krause, who entered the day batting .600 but was 0-4 with 4 K's before the at-bat, roped a double into the gap to cut the lead to 6-5. Tom Sawyer would single home another run, and Sister Bay would force the game to the 10th inning after scoring 4 unanswered runs with two outs in the inning.

In the top of the tenth, Sam Forkert would show some signs of slowing down. Nick Lecaptain started the Braves off with a walk, be bunted over to second, and then another RBI single from Devin Schinktgen would bring him home and bring the score to 7-6. Reinhardt would record strikeout 9 and 10 in the bottom of the tenth, and Kolberg would remain unbeaten after one of the all-time classics in the DCBL.

Sam Forkert was the losing pitcher, pitching 10 innings and striking out 8 Braves. Trevor Reinhardt would get the win, eclipsing double-digit strikeouts with 10.

Kolberg and Sister Bay will both face teams at the bottom of the standings next week, as Kolberg will travel to Institute, and Sister Bay will play host to Baileys Harbor.

Other scores include West Jacksonport blowing out Egg Harbor 13-2 while Washington Island edged Maplewood 3-1.

Islanders edge Mets on the road

It took until the sixth inning for either team to scratch across a run in Washington Island's 3-1 win over Maplewood on Sunday.

The Islanders struck first when Ben Johnson and Luke Geiger hit back-to-back doubles to give themselves a 2-0 lead. They added insurance in the seventh inning when Ryan Jorgenson singled in Matt Foss to make it 3-0. The Mets finally scored in the ninth inning when Jaden Diller singled to make 3-1 with the tying run on first base. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger recovered, coaxing a pop out to end the game.

For the Islanders, Johnson and Geiger each had two hits and one RBI while four others tallied at least one hit. Jorgenson earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on five hits across six innings while striking out one.

For the Mets, Diller went 3-5 with an RBI while Kody Kissinger tallied two hits. Jeremiah Jahnke took the loss, allowing three runs (3 ER) on six hits while striking out five across five innings.

Rockers explode to salvage series in Rapids

After losing 4-2 on Saturday, the Green Bay Rockers pounded out 15 hits on a 17-6 win on Sunday against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The Rockers jumped on the Rafters early,  scoring seven times in the first inning and five more times in the third inning. Things got chaotic late with the Rafters outscoring the Rockers 6-5 in the final three innings, but it was not enough to erase the 12-0 deficit entering the final frames.

Aidan Kuni pounded out four hits and two RBI while David Ballenilla went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Rockers. Caden Crask-Weeks did not need much run support to earn the win, pitching four scoreless innings of two-hit ball while striking out six.

The Rockers will continue west for a pair of road games against the LaCrosse Loggers on Monday and Tuesday before welcoming Wausau on Wednesday for the first part of a home-and-home series.

Rattlers and River Bandits Rained Out

This is a habit that the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers would love to break.  Sunday’s Midwest League game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park has been rained out.  This marks Wisconsin’s third consecutive Sunday road game that has been rained out.

Sunday’s game will be made up when the River Bandits visit Neuroscience Group Field from July 17 through July 19.  Those are the only remaining dates left on the schedule on which the two teams will play each other this season.  The date of the doubleheader will be announced later.

The streak of Sunday road rainouts started on May 24 at Dow Diamond for a game against the Great Lakes Loons and continued on June 7 at Veterans Memorial Stadium when a game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels was started before rain halted play in the bottom of the second inning.  This was the tenth rainout of the season for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin is off on Monday before returning to action at Neuroscience Group Field on Tuesday night against the Kernels.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Sister Bay welcomes Kolberg on 105.1 The GOAT

Two of the league's best teams will take the field in Sister Bay on Sunday when the Bays welcome Kolberg.

Strong  third inning lead the Bays to a win. Sister Bay was able to remain undefeated with a 5 run third inning after making the trip to the island. The final from Washington Island was the Bays 7 and the Islanders 2.

Kolberg started strong against Egg Harbor. The Braves got out to an 11-0 led by the 5th inning and it wasn’t until the top of the 6th before The Indians were able to put a run on the board. Final from Kolberg 12-2.

Gary Barta will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 1:15 p.m. followed by the first pitch at 1:30 p.m. Other Sunday games include West Jacksonport traveling to Egg Harbor and Maplewood welcoming Washington Island.

Glory women wrap up home slate Sunday

The Green Bay Glory wrap up their home slate on Sunday with a match against Milwaukee City AFC at 3 p.m. on the campus of UW-Green Bay.

The Glory are looking for their first win since a 6-0 rout of Milwaukee City AFC on May 19th. In the weeks since, the Glory have gone 0-4-2, including a 4-0 loss to Chicago House AC last week.

Glory's Sosa burns Inferno

Green Bay Glory's Keven Sosa found the scorebook three times in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Inferno.

Sosa scored a goal to open the scoring and set up Dennis Nyame on both ends of his brace to cap off his impressive day on the pitch. Joshua Johansen buried a penalty kick to account for the other goal while David Dougherty had a big day in net to preserve the victory.

The Glory men will be in action on again on Saturday with a match against AFC Roscoe on the road at noon.

The Glory women saw their home campaign end unexpectedly when Milwaukee City canceled. They will wrap up their 2026 season on Saturday with a road match against Chicago Kics.

Wisconsin Blitzes Bandits

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored in every inning from the fourth through the ninth to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 14-1 Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  The Rattlers got big offensive nights from several players and a very solid start from Jayden Dubanewicz, who was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst to move his record to 2-0 in two starts as a Rattler.

The Timber Rattlers (36-28 overall, 2-0 second half) broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the fourth off Bandits starter Blake Wolters.  Tayden Hall stepped to the plate with two on an no outs.  His hard grounder deflected off the glove of Derlin Figueroa at first.  The ball caromed into right center to allow the first run to score.  Luis Castillo followed with an RBI double that sent Hall around to third.

Andrick Nava was next and Wolters got a slow grounder up the line at first.  Wolters tried to get Hall at the plate, but the throw was late.  Luiyin Alastre tacked on the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Wisconsin added to their lead in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs against Wolters.  Reliever Nick Conte took over on the mound to try to put out the fire.  He would walk Juan Baez to force in a run and commit a balk to let another run score before getting the final out.

In the sixth, Eric Bitonti ripped a two-run double to right for an 8-0 lead.

Quad Cities (30-35, 0-2) struggled to get anything going against Dubanewicz.  Nolan Sailors singled and stole second to start the bottom of the first.  Dubanewicz retired the next eight Bandits in a row.  Sailors broke up that streak with a two-out triple in the third.  Dubanewicz got the final out on a grounder to short.  He also pitched around a one-out double in the fourth and a pair of singles in the fifth to keep the Bandits off the scoreboard.

A lead-off single by Ramon Ramirez in the sixth inning ended the night for the Wisconsin starter, who struck out six, walked none, and scattered six hits.  Ramirez scored after Dubanewicz left the game when reliever Quinton Low walked two batters and allowed a sacrifice fly to Tyriq Kemp.

Wisconsin’s offense stepped on the gas in the later innings.  Josiah Ragsdale singled home a run in the seventh.  Marco Dinges, in his return to the lineup for the first time since an ejection last Saturday against Great Lakes, obliterated a 3-2 pitch from Cory Ronan for a two-run home run and an 11-1 lead.

Daniel Dickinson led off the top of the eighth with a home run to left, the first professional home run for Dickinson.  Hall tripled after a fly to shallow center ended in a collision and the ball dropping free.  Castillo drove in Hall with a bloop single to right that dropped just out of the right of Torres in right field.

Ragsdale, who had already extended his on-base streak to 26 games, cracked a homer in the ninth inning off position player Angel Acosta.  Ragsdale went 2-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored on Saturday.  He has scored 28 runs during his 26-game on-base streak.

Michael Fowler, who returned from Wisconsin’s Injured List earlier in the week, pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts to close out the game.

Dinges and Dickinson both had three hits and reached base five times on Saturday.  Hall joined that duo with three hits as Wisconsin totaled sixteen hits in the game.  The Timber Rattlers were 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position on Saturday.

Dubanewicz, Low, and Fowler held the River Bandits to 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and recorded twelve strikeouts.

Wisconsin has won two in a row to reach eight games over the .500 mark, which is third time they have been eight games above .500 this season.

The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.  Braylon Owens (2-0, 4.19) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Tanner Jones (2-3, 5.85) is the announced starter for the River Bandits.  Game time is 1:00pm.

Rockers dethroned by Kingfish

Three hits and a two run rally was all the Green Bay Rockers could muster Friday night in a 8-2 to the Kenosha Kingfish.

Two of those three hits came in the fourth inning with the Rockers trailing five nothing. Coleman Lewis homered to also drive in Aidan Kuni, but a two-out single by David Ballenilla went wasted to keep it a 5-2 score.

Lewis led the way with two hits and two RBI while Ballenilla had the other knock. Max Wagar took the loss, allowing five runs (5 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out two.

The Rockers' scene shifts to Wisconsin Rapids where they play two against the Rafters this weekend at 6:35 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

A's walk past Cubs under the lights

Baileys Harbor drew 16 walks en route to a 12-2 win over Institute Friday night.

Isaac Baudhuin, Caleb Plazak, Patrick Haase, and Justin Hartel registered two or more walks on the evening, assisting the A's to score four times in the first inning and five times in the sixth inning. Bryce Plzak was a rare exception, not drawing a walk but was able to drive in two runs on two hits. Danny Lodl, Baudhuin, Gavin Blink, and Dom Blish also collected hits in the A's win.

The Cubs had their success in the second inning, scoring their two runs on a bases loaded walk drawn by Chase Haberli and a swipe of home plate from Nick Peterson. Josh Pflieger, Logan Schuh, and Will Hartman posted the lone hits of the game for the Cubs.

Chris Lodl earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (2 ER) on two hits with strikeouts and eight walks. Chase Haberli matched Lodl in the walks department with eight, allowing six runs (3 ER) on three hits while striking out five.

Bitonti Blasts Bandits with Five-Hit, Four-RBI

Eric Bitonti bounced back from a rough night at the plate on Thursday night to lead the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 12-2 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday at Modern Woodmen Park.  Bitonti, who was 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in a loss to the Bandits on Thursday, went 5-for-5 with a homer, four RBI, and four runs scored for Wisconsin on Friday.

Luis Castillo gave Wisconsin (35-28 overall, 1-0 second half) the early lead with a two-out, two-run double in the first inning to score Braylon Payne and Bitonti who had both singled with one out in the inning.  The Rattlers have scored in the first inning in all four games of this series

Quad Cities (30-34, 0-1) responded in the bottom of the first with two runs on one hit.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Jason Woodward walked three straight batters with one out.  Derlin Figueroa got the first run home with a single.  Tyriq Kemp tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left.

Woodruff escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the second inning with a strikeout and a lineout to keep the game tied.

Wisconsin took advantage of some mistakes by the River Bandits to take the lead in the top of the third.  Kendry Chourio, the Bandits pitcher and top prospect in the Kansas City Royals system, hit Payne with a pitch and committed a balk.  Then, Bitonti lined a single to right.  Right fielder Erick Torres missed the ball and tripped as he tried to turn and go after the ball.  Payne scored easily and Bitonti raced around the bases to score sliding in headfirst well ahead of the throw home for a 4-2 lead.

Luiyin Alastre was a one-man, two-out rally in the top of the fourth.  Chourio struck out the first two batters of the inning.  Alastre doubled, moved to third on a balk, and scored on a wild pitch.

Bitonti struck again in the fifth inning.  Josiah Ragsdale extended his on-base streak to 25 games with a lead-off double.  Bitonti blasted an opposite field home run for a 7-2 lead.  The homer was the tenth of the season for Bitonti.

Chourio, who was making his Midwest League debut on Friday night, left the game with two outs in the top of the fifth after he recorded his tenth strikeout.

Wande Torres took over for Woodward in the bottom of the third inning and kept the River Bandits in check for 5-2/3 innings.  Torres scattered five hits, walked none, and struck out eight without allowing a run to maintain the lead.  He would eventually pick up the win, his fourth of the season.

Ragsdale and Bitonti weren’t done.  Ragsdale tripled to start the top of the seventh to record his eighteenth multi-hit game of the season.  Bitonti’s fourth hit was a bloop single to right to drive in Ragsdale.

In the ninth, the Rattlers added four runs.  Ragsdale’s RBI grounder scored David Garcia from third.  Payne walked and Bitonti collected his fifth hit with a single through the right side of the infield.  Tayden Hall was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Payne scored on a balk, the fourth of the night called on Quad Cities pitchers.  Castillo made it a three-RBI night for him with a single to score Bitonti.  Hall scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch.

Ragsdale has scored 25 runs during his 25-game on-base streak.

Friday was Bitonti’s second five-hit game of the season.  He also went 5-for-5 at Peoria on May 10.  He is the first Rattler to have two five-hit games in a single season since Marshall Hubbard who had five hits in a game at Lansing on May 17, 2005 and again at Beloit on June 19, 2005, exactly 21 years ago tonight.

Saturday’s game at Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled to start at 5:30pm.  Jayden Dubanewicz (1-0, 5.40) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Blake Wolters (0-5, 12.49) is set to start for the River Bandits.

Gottlieb extended as Green Bay men's head coach

Days after he received his own extension from the university, Green Bay Athletic Director Josh Moon extended one of his hires, men's basketball coach Doug Gottlieb.

The athletic department announced the extension of Gottlieb on Friday, giving the head coach the keys to the program until the 2030-2031 season. It marches in step with Moon's five-year extension. After rough first season, Gottlieb turned the program around in his second season, advancing to Indianapolis for the Horizon League Tournament with 19 wins.

"Doug is building a program that this entire region can be proud of year in and year out," said Moon. "He is recruiting the right kind of guys that put in the work to excel in the classroom and on the court, while positively impacting this community. We are excited to watch the continued growth of this program under Doug's leadership."

"I am supremely appreciative of Chancellor Mike Alexander and Josh Moon in awarding me this contract extension," added Gottlieb. "Green Bay is just an incredible place to live, work, and grow, and the next five years our goal is to return the Phoenix to our rightful spot at or near the top of the Horizon League every single year. To our Phans, I remain grateful to your support, to our donors, you are truly helping us build something special, and to our student athletes, they know who will be their coach during their time in Green Bay."

The department noted in their announcement that Gottlieb's Phoenix excelled on and off the court, becoming the only program with two players on the All-Academic squad and a program-record 3.40 cumulative GPA.

The A's were shut out 11-0 against Maplewood last week. They were outhit 8-4 and victimized by five errors that led to two unearned runs. Caleb Plzak, Chris Lodl, Aaron Brey, and Isaac Baudhuin tallied hits for the A's in the loss.

Rockers hook Kingfish late

The Green Bay Rockers outlasted the Kenosha Kingfish on Thursday with an 11-10 victory at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon.

The lead went back and forth through out the night with the Kingfish scoring two or more runs in the first, sixth, and eighth innings while the Rockers countered with multiple tallies in the forth and seventh inning. After the Kingfish tied the game at 10 with a four-run eighth inning, the Rockers scratched across the eventual game-winner in the bottom half of the frame on a home run by Andrew Raymond.

Aidan Kuni, Ben Fishel, Coleman Lewis, Max Humphrey, Raymond, and Eli Selga all had two hits in the contest, combining to drive in nine of the 11 runs. Kuni, Fishel,Lewis, Raymond, and Mike Dee all homered in the win with Raymond completing the deed twice.

Kaden Straily earned the win as the fourth of five relievers used in the game, allowing one run (1 ER) on one hit with one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched.

The two teams are back at it Friday at 6:35 p.m.

Wisconsin's First Half Ends with a Loss at Quad Cities

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had an unlucky night at the ballpark against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park in the final game of the first half.  Quad Cities broke a 3-3 tie with five runs – four unearned – in the fourth inning and cruised to a 9-3 victory.

Wisconsin leadoff hitter Josiah Ragsdale reached base and scored in the first inning for the third consecutive night.  He walked and scored on Tuesday, homered on the third pitch of Wednesday’s game, and drove the second pitch on Thursday for a single.  Braylon Payne knocked in Ragsdale with a one-out double to left-center for the 1-0 lead.

The River Bandits (30-33) got a fortunate bounce to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.  Ramon Ramirez hit a line drive deep to right with two outs and a runner at first.  Ragsdale raced back and made a leaping attempt for a catch that would have been the final out.  The ball glanced off his glove and the top of the wall to go over for a two-run home run.

Back-to-back doubles by Tyriq Kemp and Connor Rasmussen in the bottom of the second gave Quad Cities a 3-1 lead.

Payne brought the game back to even for Wisconsin (34-28) in the top of the third.  Andrick Nava doubled and Ragsdale walked.  Payne ripped a triple to the corner in right with one out to knock in both runners to make the score 3-3.

The Bandits took advantage of another Wisconsin miscue in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead and then some.  Rasmussen doubled with one out.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Ethan Dorchies struck out Trevor Werner for what should have been the second out.  However, Nava couldn’t grab strike three and the ball went to the backstop.  Werner made it to first and Rasmussen took third.

Asbel Gonzalez dropped a bunt for a safety squeeze to score Rasmussen and beat the throw to first for a single.

Dorchies got what should have been a tailor-made double play ball to end the inning of the bat of Nolan Sailors.  The Bandits foiled that chance by starting the runners and the only out was to first base.

Dorchies thought he struck out Blake Mitchell on an 0-2 pitch, but the call was a ball.  Then, the two battled to the seventh pitch of the at bat before Mitchell muscled a bloop single into center to score two more runs and end Dorchies night.

A final blow was struck in the inning as Ramirez greeted reliever Tanner Perry with a long home run to left for his second two-run shot of the night and an 8-3 lead.

Perry walked Rasmussen on four pitches with two outs in the sixth inning and Trevor Werner cashed in that chance with a double to center to send Rasmussen home with a ninth run of the River Bandits.

There was some good news for the Rattlers.  Daniel Corniel returned from injury to pitch in Midwest League game for the first time since April 9, 2025.  Corniel worked three scoreless innings of relief, including working out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the bottom of the eighth by getting Ramirez to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Rattler offense was mostly silent after Payne’s two-run triple in the third.  Quad Cities pitching retired fifteen Rattlers in a row until Ragsdale doubled with one out in the eighth inning against reliever Max Martin, who got the final two outs of the inning.  LP Langevin struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth to close out the game and the first half.

David Shields, the starting – and winning – pitcher for Quad Cities, had ten strikeouts and one walk over five innings.  Shields, Martin, and Langevin combined for fifteen strikeouts in the game.

Ragsdale had his team-leading seventeenth multi-hit game of the season as he was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for Wisconsin to extend his on-base streak to 23 games.  Payne went 2-for-4 with three RBI on Thursday night.  He is 8-for-16 with ten RBI in just four games as the number three hitter in the Wisconsin lineup.

The series continues on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park with the first game of the second half of the season.  Wisconsin has Jason Woodward (1-2, 5,33) as their scheduled starting pitcher.  Quad Cities will go with Kendry Chourio, who will make his Midwest League debut, as their starter.  Game time is 6:30pm CDT.

Small Ball Bandits Beat Wisconsin

The Quad Cities River Bandits kept hanging around the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Wisconsin had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but could not shake the Bandits before falling 3-2 in the contest.

Josiah Ragsdale wasted no time in extending his on-base streak to 23 games and giving the Timber Rattlers (34-27) the lead.  Ragsdale launched the third pitch of the game over the wall in right for a lead-off homer against Bandits starting pitcher Emmanuel Reyes.

Quad Cities (29-33) tied the game with a two-out run in the bottom of the second.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Josh Knoth walked Ramon Ramirez to start the inning and struck out the next two hitters.  Ramirez stole second with two outs and scored on a single by Tyriq Kemp to tie the score.

Wisconsin staged a two-out rally in the fifth to take the lead back.  Daniel Dickinson doubled with two outs.  Braylon Payne hit a slow grounder wide of first.  Dickinson, who was running on the pitch, scored as Payne beat the throw to first for an infield, RBI single.

The River Bandits struck back in the bottom of the fifth.  Knoth struck out the lead-off hitter for his seventh strikeout of the game.  Kemp ended Knoth’s night with a double.  The pitch was the 70th of the game for Knoth as he is still building himself back up from missing the 2025 season.

Chandler Welch entered the game from the bullpen for Wisconsin and allowed a double to Connor Rasmussen that drove in Kemp with the tying run.

In the sixth, the Bandits took their first lead of the series, and they used small ball with their big bats to do it.  Ramon Ramirez doubled to start the inning.  Luke Pelzer, the Midwest League’s leader in hitting, dropped a bunt up the third base line and beat it out for a single to put runners at the corners.  Derlin Figueroa, who had fifteen homers coming into the game, dropped another bunt, a safety squeeze to score Ramirez with the go-ahead run.  That was Figueroa’s first sacrifice bunt of the season.

That sacrifice bunt was the thirtieth of the season for the River Bandits.  The other fifteen teams in the Midwest League have combined for 46 sacrifice bunts through Wednesday’s action.

The Timber Rattlers best chance to do damage came in the top of the eighth.  Dickinson reached on an error by Kemp with one out.  Payne followed with a single to put runners on the corners against Jordan Woods, the Bandits second pitcher of the night.  Woods retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a hard grounder to first to end the threat.

Yimi Presinal pitched a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to close out the Rattlers and earn his third save of the season.

Knoth struck out seven over 4-1/3 innings.  He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk for a no decision.

Reyes earned the win by allowing two runs, scattering seven hits, and striking out five while walking one.

Payne went 3-for-4 with a stolen base for Wisconsin.

Game three of the series is also the final game of the first half and it is set for Modern Woodmen Park.  Wisconsin has named Ethan Dorchies (1-4, 6.41) as their starting pitcher.  David Shields (4-4, 3.91) is set to start for the Bandits.  Game time is 6:30pm CDT.

Rockers rained out in second game of doubleheader

The Green Bay Rockers had to settle for just six innings of baseball on Wednesday as they were rained out for game two of its doubleheader against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The game was delayed twice before it was ultimately called. This game will be made up as a part of a doubleheader on Friday, June 26th against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters with first pitch at 4:05pm.

The Rockers took game one 1-0 in an offensively-challenged game. The Rockers recorded three of those hits, but it was a walk by Coleman Lewis that set up Eli Selga's game-winning RBI. Aidan Kuni led the Rockers with two hits. Holden Harris earned the win in relief, striking out three and allowing one hit over two innings.

The Rockers will have better weather to deal with on Thursday and Friday when they welcome the Kenosha Kingfish.

AD Moon extended at Green Bay

Citing success across its athletic programs, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced on Wednesday that it was extending the contract of Atheltic Director Josh Moon.

In addition to its success on the court, Moon is credited for its increases in special events revenue, ticket sales, basketball attendance and sponsorships for Green Bay Athletics, 200% jump in annual Phoenix Fund support, and the transformation of the Shorewood Golf Course into Shorewood Park, which has become a well-used cross country course for the high school and college ranks.

"Josh Moon continues to grow Phoenix Athletics," shared Chancellor Michael Alexander. "His belief in our region, UW-Green Bay, and what can be possible here is inspiring. I am excited to see what Josh will accomplish in the next five years along with our student-athletes and coaches.  We have the right person with the right relentless energy to lead us during these complicated times."

"I'm incredibly grateful to Chancellor Mike for his continued belief and support, and this is a reflection of the great work our amazing coaches, staff and student-athletes are doing each and every day as we continue to RISE," said Moon. "My family and I love this University and this community. It's home, and we feel blessed to be able to continue to build belief and support throughout Green Bay, the Valley and beyond for the Phoenix. There is no better time than now to be a part of this great University, and we invite everyone to Rise with us!"

Phoenix men to host Badgers for October exhibition

For the first time since 2022, Green Bay and Wisconsin will meet on the basketball court.

Phoenix head coach Doug Gottlieb mentioned the matchup during the Inside Wisconsin Sports radio show Wednesday. The exhibition game is scheduled for Oct. 15.

No additional details were announced, including whether the agreement includes a return game, similar to Green Bay's exhibition arrangement with Bradley last year.

Gottlieb also teased a possible exhibition contest against Marquette during his appearance.

The news comes as Green Bay recently extended Athletic Director Josh Moon's contract through 2031.

Rockers slip past Rafters in first game of twinbill

Rain and a fourth-inning fielder's choice helped the Green Bay Rockers earn a 1-0 victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Offense was hard to come by as the teams combined for just four hits. The Rockers recorded three of those hits, but it was a walk by Coleman Lewis that set up Selga's game-winning RBI.

Aidan Kuni led the Rockers with two hits.

Holden Harris earned the win in relief, striking out three and allowing one hit over two innings.

If weather permits, Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m.

Rockers can't complete sweep of Dock Spiders

The Green Bay Rockers could not go 4-4 against their 1-41 rivals on Tuesday, falling to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 8-3 on Tuesday.

After sweeping the Green Bay games 9-3 and 6-0 and taking the first game in Fond du Lac 11-9, the Rockers had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth before the wheels fell completely off. Rockers pitching gave up eight runs on six hits, including extra base knocks from the Dock Spiders' Joey Arend and Miles Vandenheuvel to flip the results in their favor.

Caden Roth was the guilty party in the loss, allowing six of the eight runs (6 ER) on four hits and two walks while retiring just one batter. Eli Selga led the Rockers with a 2-4 evening that saw him drive in a run.

The Rockers are back at home on Wednesday with a twinbill against Wisconsin Rapids with games at 12:05 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.

Wisconsin Wins with Contributions from Woodruff and Payne

Brandon Woodruff made a rehabilitation start and Braylon Payne knocked in three runs for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in an 11-6 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park on Tuesday night.  Wisconsin’s win, their twentieth road win of the season, allowed them to match their season-high of eight games over .500.

Payne singled to knock in Josiah Ragsdale from second base with one out in the top of the first inning to give Wisconsin (34-26) a 1-0 lead.

Ramon Ramirez hit a lead-off homer for the River Bandits (28-33) in the bottom of the second against Woodruff.

The Rattlers broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning.  Luiyin Alastre and Juan Baez started the inning with singles.  David Garcia reached on an infield single with a wild throw to first allowing Alastre to score the go-ahead run.

Quad Cities brought their infield in on the grass to try to cut down Baez at the plate.  Ragsdale hit a slow grounder to short, but Baez got a great jump and beat the play at home.  Daniel Dickinson followed with an RBI single.  Payne drew a walk to load the bases.  Then, Eric Bitonti hit a deep drive to right for a sacrifice fly that let all three runners advance.  Later in the inning, Dickinson scored on a wild pitch for a 6-1 lead.

That lead moved to 7-1 in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Garcia.

Luke Pelzer singled in the bottom of the fifth against Woodruff.  He stole second and third.  Pelzer scored when Tyriq Kemp reached on a fielder’s choice on a potential double play ball.  Connor Rasmussen, in his Midwest League debut, doubled to left to get Kemp to third.  Angel Acosta’s sacrifice fly scored Kemp to cut Wisconsin’s lead to four runs.

Wisconsin’s offense got those two runs back in the top of the sixth.  Alastre, who reached base five times on Tuesday, singled to knock in Bitonti.  Castillo scored on a wild pitch for a 9-3 lead.

Woodruff went back out for the sixth and gave up a lead-off single to Asbel Gonzalez before striking out Blake Mitchell, the #1 prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization.  Woodruff left the game after his sixth strikeout of the game.  He threw 82 pitches (55 strikes), walked one, and allowed three runs on five hits over 5-1/3 innings.

José Nova took over for Woodruff and didn’t have to worry about the runner for long.  Garcia threw out Gonzalez on a stolen base attempt for the second out of the sixth.

However, a single by Ramirez, an RBI triple by Pelzer, and a wild pitch on ball four to Derlin Figueroa allowed the Bandits to score two runs and have a runner at first trailing 9-5.  Garcia would help out again as he picked off Figueroa at first to end the inning.  Quad Cities ran into four outs on the bases in the game.

Payne put the game away in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run home run to right for an 11-5 advantage.  Payne has hit thirteen homers in just 39 games this season.

Braylon Owens, the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers on Tuesday before Woodruff was sent to Quad Cities on his rehab assignment, pitched the final three innings.  He pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.  In the ninth, Pelzer had his third hit of the game, a lead-off single.  Pelzer was at second with two outs when Rasmussen singled to score Pelzer.  Owens got Acosta on a flyball to left to end the game and earn his second save of the season.

Alastre, Baez, and Garcia, the seven through nine hitters in the Wisconsin lineup, were on base eleven times with four hits and seven walks.  Ragsdale was 0-for-4 but walked and was hit by a pitch to extend his current on-base streak to twenty-two games.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Josh Knoth (0-0, 2.19) is the announced starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Emmanuel Reyes (4-2, 3,71) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:30pm CDT.

Mets Bats Explode Onto Scene, Dominate A's on 105.1 The GOAT

A chilly afternoon in Baileys Harbor was home to the Maplewood Mets breakout game, as their offense put up 16 runs, 5 of them in the first inning en route to a 16-0 win in 8 innings on 105.1 The GOAT.

A pair of back-to-back doubles from Jaden Diller and Adam Gutschow quickly had Maplewood out to a 2-0 lead in the first few pitches from Baileys Harbor starter Aaron Brey. Brey, who was fresh off a dominant season for Gibraltar/Washington Island. A few more key hits would see Brey be chased after the first inning, giving up 5 runs. In the bottom half of the inning, it would be Tory Jandrin shutting down the A's in order.

On the second pitch of the second inning, after Danny Lodl relieved Brey, Jaden Diller would record his second of eight RBIs on the day, with a solo home run over the center field wall. The A's would try to threaten with runners on second and third, but Jandrin and company would keep it scoreless.

Runs would continue to come across for Maplewood, who was searching for its first win all season, and had scored just two runs in its past three weeks. The bottom half of the innings would continue to be clean, with Tory Jandrin throwing 4 shutout innings with a huge 11-0 lead in hand.

Substitutes would continue to pile in for both sides from the fifth inning on, with the A's throwing a total of five pitchers in eight innings. Jaden Diller, however, would not be one of the Mets subbed out for the day, as he would finish the day a clean 5 for 5 at the plate, reaching base all 6 times. Diller would record another home run in the eighth and final inning, this last one to the same spot as the second inning. The only difference? A 3 RBI home run to bring the scoring to a close at 16-0.

Maplewood moves to 1-4 overall with a date with Washington Island next week. Baileys Harbor will fall to 1-4 as well, and they will play in the first Friday game of the season against Institute. 105.1 The GOAT will be in Sister Bay for the matchup of undefeated teams as Kolberg travels to Sister Bay.

A pair of three-run innings helped the A's earn the 9-6  road win over Egg Harbor on Sunday. Ethan Kratcha and the Lodl brothers each had two hits with Danny and Chris each driving in a pair. Kratcha earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out a pair.

Rockers sweep doubleheader vs. Chinooks

The Green Bay Rockers broke a three-game slide with a doubleheader sweep of the Lakeshore Chinooks on Friday, 3-1 and 7-6.

In the first game, David Ballenilla provided important insurance with a leadoff homer. Aidan Kuni and Payton Fort each had two hits games to lead the Rockers. Max Wagar earned the win with four innings of one hit, one run ball.

In game two, the Rockers were trailing 6-0 before they narrowed the deficit to one eith a five-run fifth inning. They walked off the Chinooks in the seventh with Coleman Lewis' two-run bomb providing the difference. RJ Furcal, Jr. and Max Humphrey each had two hits while Zacary Tenn's 1-2-3 seventh with three strikeouts was enough to qualify for the Winter.

The Rockers play the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders the next four games, including the next two at home.

Blizzard reclaim top spot in the IFL with a Shark hunt Friday night

The Green Bay Blizzard needed a response. After dropping a gut punch of a game to Quad City the week before on a last second score, Green Bay came home for Backyard Night and delivered. The Blizzard took down the Jacksonville Sharks 54-45 Friday night, improving to 10-2 and reclaiming the top seed in the Eastern Conference above Jacksonville who drops to 9-2.

Liam Thompson was absolutely cooking. The Blizzard quarterback finished with three touchdown passes and two rushing scores while connecting with Trevon Alexander all night long. Thompson now leads the entire IFL in passing touchdowns with 41 and sits fourth among all players in rushing categories as a QB.

Alexander hauled in six catches for 77 yards and two scores, Kairee Robinson did his thing out of the backfield with a touchdown on the ground and another through the air, and Green Bay put up 33 points in the second quarter alone. Andrew Mevis was electric at times, inconsistent at others, but somehow drilled the left post on a kickoff that Green Bay recovered and turned into points.

Defensively, Najei Snyder led the team with nine tackles and Marcus Hillman came up with the play of the game, intercepting a Sharks pass in the fourth quarter just as Jacksonville was threatening to make it a one score game. Every time the Sharks got close, Green Bay had an answer.

The Blizzard head into a bye week at 10-2 with the best record in the IFL. They return June 27th for Military Night against the Fishers Freight at 4pm, streamable on Yahoo Sports.

Great Lakes Gains Split with 5-3 Victory over Wisconsin

The Great Lakes Loons beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3 in the nightcap of Friday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Loons, playing as the home team in game two of the twinbill, broke a 2-2 tie with three, two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  The result of game two put Wisconsin’s playoff chances on life support while the Loons regained the upper hand in their playoff race.

Great Lakes was the home team in game two because this game was the make-up of a rainout at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan on Sunday, May 24.  Wisconsin had won game one over the Loons by a score of 5-3 to temporarily knock the Loons out of first place in the East Division.  When game two started, the teams traded early two-out runs.

Daniel Dickinson drove in Josh Adamczewski with a two-out single to right in the top of the first inning for the Rattlers (31-25) to take the lead.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Wande Torres retired the first five batters he faced before a two-out hit batsman extended the inning.  Cameron Decker hit a high fly to right and the ball carried out of the park for a two-run homer and a 2-1 lead for the Loons (34-25).

Luiyin Alastre and Andrew Fischer got the Rattlers back to even in the top of the fifth with another two-out rally.  Alastre drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a two-out wild pitch by Nicolas Cruz.  Fischer drove a single to right to score Alastre with the tying run.

The Loons knocked Torres out of the game in the bottom of the fifth as the left-handed pitcher walked two and hit one to load the bases with one out.  Ayendy Bravo was called in from the Wisconsin bullpen in an attempt to keep the game tied.

Bravo and Jose Meza battled for seven pitches before the Rattler reliever got a swinging strike three for the second out.  Then, Victor Rodrigues punched the next pitch through the infield to right to score two runs.  Two pitches later, Samuel Munoz lined a single to center to knock on two more runs for a 5-2 lead.

Adamczewski and Eric Bitonti singled to open the top of the sixth before Cruz got a 4-6-3 double play for two outs.  Justin Chambers entered the game for Great Lakes and walked Luis Castillo on four pitches to keep the inning alive.  Juan Baez singled to right and Adamczewski scored.  Chambers got the last out on a force play at second.

Great Lakes turned to Matt Lanzendorfer for the top of the seventh.  He walked Fischer and Dinges with one out to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate.  Lanzendorfer denied the Rattlers a comeback by striking out the next two batters to close out his second save of the season.

The split in the doubleheader dropped the Timber Rattlers playoff chances down to almost nothing.  The South Bend Cubs, who entered Friday’s Midwest League action with a 4-1/2 game lead over Wisconsin, lost to Peoria at home.   The Wisconsin loss in game two means they are four games behind the Cubs with five games remaining in the half for both teams.  South Bend’s magic number to clinch the lone first half playoff spot in the West Division is two with five games remaining for both teams.  Lake County and Great Lakes both lost on Friday night to allow Great Lakes to move back into first in the East by one-half game over Lake County and one game over Dayton.

Fischer, who had a go-ahead, two-run home run in game one of the twinbill, singled and walked in game two.  His on-base streak has reached 29 consecutive games (35-for-101 with fourteen homers and 32 walks for a 1.330 OPS).

The series continues on Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Jayden Dubanewicz, the #24 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers system, is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers and will be making his Midwest League debut.  The Loons have named Brooks Auger (0-1, 12.00) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Fischer Does It Again!

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fans were treated to a little history after sitting through a couple of rainy days at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers beat the Great Lakes Loons 5-3 in game one of a doubleheader.  The win was the third in a row for the Rattlers.  The history belonged to Andrew Fischer.

Great Lakes (33-25) loaded the bases against Wisconsin starting pitcher Ethan Dorchies with two outs in the first on two walks and a hit batsman.  Dorchies struck out Anson Aroz, his third K of the inning, to end the threat.

Braylon Payne gave the Timber Rattlers (31-24) the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out single to left to score Fischer.

The Loons had a runner at third with one out in the top of the second when catcher Andrick Nava picked that runner off for the second out and Dorchies picked up his fourth strikeout of the game for the final out.

Dorchies could not escape a bases-loaded, one out jam in the top of the fourth.  Samuel Munoz drove in two runs with a single to give the Loons a 2-1 lead.  Jose Izzara had a sacrifice fly to a 3-1 advantage.

Wisconsin tied the game with power from an unexpected source.  Daniel Guilarte, who had just been activated from the Wisconsin injured list on June 9, was playing in his first Midwest League game since April 24.  He stepped to the plate with a runner at second and two outs in the bottom of the fourth and lifted a flyball to right that carried out for a game-tying, two-run home run.  That homer was the first for Guilarte since June 1, 2025.

A consistent power source delivered for the Timber Rattlers in the bottom of the fifth.  Andrew Fischer put the Rattlers up 5-3 with a two-run homer, his twentieth home run of the season.  Fischer is the eighth Timber Rattler hitter to reach at least twenty homers in a season.  None have reached twenty as fast as Fischer, who reached that milestone in just 52 games this season.

Tanner Perry took over in relief for Dorchies to start the fifth inning.  Perry retired the first six batters he faced but walked two of the first three Loons to hit in the seventh.  A force out for the second out and popup for the final out of the game closed out Perry’s first Midwest League win.

Blizzard return home to face Sharks

The Green Bay Blizzard to bounce back from a rare loss last weekend with a home date against the Jacksonville Sharks on Friday.

The Blizzard had their six-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night in Moline, falling to the Quad City Steamwheelers 43-37 in one of the wilder games of the IFL season. Liam Thompson threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns, but finished 9-of-23 and was replaced by Cole Stenstrom at different points throughout the game. Trevon Alexander was the standout on offense with five catches for 53 yards and two receiving touchdowns, adding a rushing score as well. Draysean Hudson hauled in four catches for 63 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth on a stunning contested catch.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Torrent torment Glory

The Green Bay Glory got a goal from Ryley Winrich, but could not stop the Milwaukee Torrent in a 4-1 loss at UW-Green Bay's Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The Torrent held a 1-0 lead at the break, but outscored the Glory 3-1 in the second half to earn the win.

The Glory women try to get back into the win column on Sunday when they travel to face Chicago House. It is part of a doubleheader with the men's squad.

Game Two of Wednesday's Wisconsin/Great Lakes Doubleheader Rained Out

Game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Great Lakes Loons at Neuroscience Group Field has been rained out.  The game will be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Thursday evening.

The Timber Rattlers won game one of the twinbill 5-0 on Wednesday.  However, severe weather hit the area shortly after the first pitch of game two was scheduled to start.  There was a delay before the rain hit the ballpark and the tarp was placed on the field.  The decision was made to call off game two as rain continued to fall.

There will be two seven-inning games scheduled for Thursday night.  The gates to the stadium will open at 4:30pm with game one starting at 5:10pm.  There will be approximately thirty to forty minutes between games of the doubleheader.

Ethan Dorchies (1-4, 6.38) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers in game one with Tanner Perry (0-0, 9.00) set to start the nightcap.

Fischer's Decisive Blast Sinks Loons

Andrew Fischer keeps hitting home runs.  The Milwaukee Brewers first round pick in the 2025 draft cranked his nineteenth homer of the season on Wednesday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader against the Great Lakes Loons.  This one, a three-run shot to left, broke a scoreless tie and was the catalyst for a 5-0 victory over the first place team in the East Division.

Pitching dominated the game early.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Josh Knoth, still working his way back to being able to go deeper into games, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out five over 3-2/3 innings.  Great Lakes starter Aidan Foeller retired the first eight Rattlers he faced and only allowed one hit with four strikeouts over three innings before he also left on a pitch count.

Garrett Hodges took over for Knoth with two on and two out in the top of the fourth inning to get the final out of the inning.  Hodges stranded two runners in the fifth and two more in the sixth to keep the game scoreless.

Wisconsin (31-24) broke through in the bottom of the sixth.  Josiah Ragsdale and Marco Dinges started the inning with singles against reliever Dilan Figueredo, who had entered the contest to start the sixth.  The wind, which had been blowing in from center for much of the game had shifted and was blowing out strongly to left by the start of the sixth.

Fischer lifted the pitch from Figueredo to left and the ball carried out of the ballpark for a three-run home run.

Later in the inning, Luis Castillo, who had been robbed of a home run to right by the wind howling in from that direction in the fifth inning, cashed in Eric Bitonti with an RBI single to right.  Juan Baez capped the inning with a double off the wall in left to drive in Daniel Dickinson.

Yerlin Rodriguez closed out the game, and Wisconsin’s fourth shutout of the season with a scoreless top of the seventh.

Great Lakes (33-24) stranded nine runners and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.  Game one of the doubleheader was only the second time the Loons have been shutout this season.

The Timber Rattlers single-season home run record is 22 – shared by Khris Davis, Victor Roache, and Clint Coulter.  Only three other players in franchise history have hit 20 or more homers in a season: Juan Silvestre (21 in 1999), Brock Kjeldgaard (20 in 2009), and Isan Diaz (20 in 2016).

Rattlers Best Loons in Wild Marathon

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought back from several late deficits to defeat the Great Lakes Loons 10-9 in eleven innings Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Clutch performers for the Rattlers were Blayberg Diaz, who delivered big game-tying hits in the eighth and tenth innings and reliever Chandler Welch, who gutted out four tough innings to earn the win.

Jose Meza gave the Loons (33-23) a 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Wisconsin (30-24) rallied in the second.  Marco Dinges doubled on the first pitch of the inning.  Josh Adamczewski followed with an RBI double to cut the Rattlers deficit in half.  Great Lakes starter Zach Root struck out the next three Rattlers to strand Adamczewski in scoring position.

From there, the Loons would pull away by adding runs to their lead and the Rattlers would do just enough to stay within striking distance until the very last pitch.

Great Lakes scored in the fifth when Diaz made a throw to second on a stolen base attempt.  The throw got away to allow the runner from third to score.  The Loons added two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Jose Hernandez and Victor Rodrigues.

Adamczewski knocked in another run for the Rattlers with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth.

Meza struck again for Great Lakes in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Daniel Dickinson was at second and Braylon Payne was at first with two outs.  Luis Peña struck out but the ball got away from Rodrigues.  The throw to first was high to allow Peña to reach.  Dickinson never stopped running and he scored all the way from second on the play.

Welch entered in the top of the eighth and put up a zero to hold the score at 6-3 in favor of the Loons.  That gave the Rattlers offense a jump.

Alex Makarewicz, the third Great Lakes pitcher of the night, walked the first three Wisconsin batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth.

Eric Bitonti drove in the first run of the inning when grounded into a force out at second against Davis Chastain, who entered the game for Makarewicz.  Chastain got the second out when a popout to center wasn’t deep enough to score the run from third.

Luis Castillo and Diaz came through for Wisconsin with consecutive RBI singles with two out to even the score.

Welch had two on with two out in the top of the ninth inning, but Eduardo Guerrero drove in a go-ahead run on a single up the middle for a 6-5 lead before the final out could be recorded.

Wisconsin rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Andrew Fischer and Marco Dinges walked with one out.  Adamczewski reached on an infield single with a wild throw to first allowing Fischer to score the tying run. On the play, pinch runner Juan Baez took third and Adamczewski got second base.  The Loons walked Bitonti intentionally to load the bases and Chastain struck out the next two batters to send the game to the tenth with the score tied 7-7.

The Loons grabbed a 9-7 lead almost immediately in the tenth.  Samuel Munoz had a lead-off single to knock in placed runner Anson Aroz.  Eduardo Quintero singled with two on and one out to make it 9-7.  Welch struck out the final two batters to turn it back over to the Rattlers offense.

Diaz had a lead-off RBI single to drive in the placed runner in the bottom of the tenth against Joseilyn Gonzalez.  Payne nearly won the game with a deep fly to left that hit high off the wall in left.  Diaz made third and Payne was at second after the double.  Luiyin Alastre, batting for Peña after replacing him defensively for the top of the eighth, hit a grounder to second and Payne got trapped between second and third.  He managed to stay in the rundown long enough for Alastre to wind up at second base.  An intentional walk to Fischer reloaded the bases and Baez, hitting in Dinges’s spot in the order, tied the game 9-9 with a sacrifice fly.

Welch retired the Loons in order in the top of the eleventh.  He pitched four innings, allowed three runs – two earned – and struck out six to set the stage for his sixth win of the season.

Bitonti was the placed at second base to start the inning.  Dickinson drew a walk. Castillo looked like he had hit a double play ball, but the throw to first was low and Hernandez was unable to make the scoop.  Gonzalez got the second out with a strikeout and was 2-2 on Payne with an eighth pitch of the at bat due.  Gonzalez threw the next pitch high and to the backstop.  Bitonti raced home for the walkoff winner.

Great Lakes pitchers struck out seventeen and walked fifteen in the game.

Fischer’s ten-game hitting streak came to an end.  However, his hitting streak is now at 26 games after he walked four times and scored two runs in Tuesday’s marathon.

Adamczewski had three hits for his team-leading fifteenth multi-hit game of the season as a Rattler.

Tuesday night was the third walkoff win of the season for the Rattlers.  It was also the second time they have scored a walkoff winner on a wild pitch.

Unfortunately for Wisconsin, their elimination number in the first half West Division playoff race dropped to four with South Bend beating Peoria 6-2.

The Rattlers and Loons were rained out in Great Lakes on May 24 and will make up the game here on Wednesday with a pair of seven-inning games starting at 12:10pm.  Game one features a pitching matchup of Josh Knoth (0-0, 3.12) for the Timber Rattlers versus Aidan Foeller (1-0, 3.21) for the Loons.  The second game will start approximately 30-45 minutes after the final out of game one.  A quirk for game two, since this is a game that was originally scheduled for Dow Diamond, is that the Loons will be the home team in the nightcap.

Rockers edged in road loss to Chinooks

The Green Bay Rockers lost their third game in a row on Monday, falling to the Lakeshore Chinooks 9-8.

The Rockers had built a 5-0 lead through their half of the fifth inning before things went off the rails. The Chinooks scored five runs in the fifth inning to tie the game and took the lead with four more in the sixth inning. The Rockers whittled away at the advantage with two runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth, but could never get over the hump to extend their skid.

The Rockers outhit the Chinooks 10-7 with Max Humphrey posting three hits and one RBI and Eric Fernandez adding two with four RBI. Henry Irwin took the loss, allowing three runs (2 ER) on one hit in one inning of work.

The two teams are back at it Tuesday night.

Sister Bay Offense Explodes for 9 Runs, Remains Undefeated on 105.1 The GOAT

The Sister Bay Bays maintained their undefeated streak with a 9-6 victory over the West Jacksonport Ports on Sunday Afternoon on 105.1 The GOAT.

After escaping a first-inning threat thanks to a 3-5 double play, the Bays took an early lead following a walk by Tom Sawyer and an RBI groundout from Matt Hecht. The game remained a pitcher's duel between Sister Bay’s Sam Forkert and West Jacksonport’s Peyton Kuehn through the first four innings. However, the Bays capitalized on a series of walks to reclaim the lead for good.

While the Ports showed offensive life, including a home run by Kuehn, Matt Hecht secured the win for Sister Bay with a decisive grand slam. Sam Forkert earned the win after pitching seven innings, moving the Bays to 4-0 on the season. The Ports fall to 1-3.

Looking ahead, the Bays will travel to face the 4-0 Washington Island Islanders, while the Ports will host Institute. 105.1 The GOAT will head to Baileys Harbor as the A's play host to the Mets with pregame at 1:15 PM and first pitch at 1:30 PM.

Other Week 5 Scores:
Baileys Harbor 9, Egg Harbor 6
Washington Island 15, Institute 4
Kolberg 3 Maplewood 0

A's top Indians on the road

A pair of three-run innings helped Baileys Harbor earn the 9-6  road win over Egg Harbor on Sunday.

The game was tied through three innings before the A's and Indians erupted for all 15 of their runs over the next four innings. The A's were aided by doubles by Chris Lodl, Bryce Plzak, and Ethan Kratcha as they outhit the Indians 11-10. The two teams committed a combined six errors in the game, leading to Indians allowing four unearned runs.

For the A's, Kratcha and the Lodl brothers each had two hits with Danny and Chris each driving in a pair. Kratcha earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out a pair.

For the Indians, Drew Price, Rylan Ruenger, and Cole Krause each had two hits with Ruenger and Krause each driving in two runs apiece. Drake Olsen took the loss for the Indians, allowing three runs (2 ER) on five hits across four innings.

Islanders clobber Cubs

The Washington Island Islanders scored early and often in their 15-4 win over Institute on Sunday.

The score was 10-0 before the Cubs scratched across a run in the fourth. The teams traded two run rallies before the Islanders responded to a single Cubs run in the seventh inning with three runs in the eighth to end the game early.

The Islanders banged out 16 hits in the win with Alex Johnson, Ben Geiger, Ben Johnson, and Ray McDonald all hitting doubles. Caleb Cornell, Ben Johnson, McDonald Ben Geiger, Matt Foss, and Alex Johnson all had at least two hits with the Johnson combining to drive in five runs. Ryan Jorgenson took the win from the mound, allowing three runs (0 ER) on six hits across five innings.

For the Cubs, Arthur Hocevar led the way with two hits while Caleb Hoffman and Quinn Schram each driving in a run. Sam Zirbel took the loss, allowing eight runs (8 ER) on nine hits across three innings of work.

Braves blank Mets

Trevor Reinhardt and Tyler Neinas clamped down on Maplewood batters Sunday afternoon to help Kolberg earn the 3-0 win.

The pair each struck out five batters with Neinas doing so across five innings of one hit ball while Reinhardt allowed two hits across four innings.

The duo of Tory and Will Jandrin were not bad either, allowing three runs (3 ER) on seven hits while striking out four. An RBI single by Neinas in the second inning and a solo homer by Reinhardt paired with a run-scoring hit from Austen Dart proved to be too mch for the Mets to overcome.

For the Braves, Sam Koss led the team with two hits while five others had at least one hit. Neinas was credited with the win on the mound.

For the Mets, Jaden Diller had two of the team's three hits while Tory Jandrin took the loss on the mound.

Glory split Bavarians double

The Green Bay Glory split their doubleheader of soccer matches with Milwaukee's Bavarians United on Sunday with the women earning a 2-2 draw while the men fell 2-1.

In the women's game, the Glory were down 1-0 at the break before outscoring the Bavarians 2-1 in the second half courtesy of goals from Emily McCarthy and Lanie Weikert.

In the men's game, Thomas Geocaris registered the lone goal for the Glory.

Rockers swept in Madison

After losing 4-3 on Saturday, a second day at the Duck Blind was not any kinder to the Green Bay Rockers as they lost a second straight game to the Madison Mallards 8-6.

The Rockers had a 6-0 lead built up thanks to a first inning, two-run home run by Max Humphrey and four more runs in the fourth inning before the Mallards tied the game in the sixth inning with six runs. In the ninth inning, Preston Yaucher walked off the Rockers with a two-run homer.

Humphrey, John Handy, and Payton Fort each had two hits, combining for three of the team's five RBI. Ricky Howell took the loss for the Rockers, giving up the game-winning homer in the ninth inning.

The Rockers' road trip continues Monday and Tuesday with games at the Lakeshore Chinooks before hosting the same team on Thursday and Friday.

Sunday Rainout in Cedar Rapids

Sunday’s series finale between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium was halted in the bottom of the second inning due to heavy rain.  The game could not be restarted on Sunday.  Since this was the final meeting of the first half between the teams, the game will not resume or be rescheduled.

The rain washed away homers by Jay Thomason for the Kernels and Marco Dinges for Wisconsin.

This marks the third canceled game of the season for Wisconsin and the third game in the last four attempts to play on Sunday to have been rained out.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday night to host the Great Lakes Loons in the first game of a seven-game series at Neuroscience Group Field.  First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 6:40pm.

Cedar Rapids Foils Wisconsin's Power Display

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hit four home runs Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored six runs with two outs Saturday Night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The Kernels did just enough to defeat the Rattlers 7-6 and put a serious dent into Wisconsin’s hopes for a first half playoff bid.

Braylon Payne launched the Rattlers (29-24) into the lead with a home run to start the game.  Payne’s eleventh home run of the season was his second lead-off homer of the season.

The Kernels (28-28) went in front in their half of the first inning as they loaded the bases with one out against Wisconsin starting pitcher Jason Woodward.  Jay Thomason tied the game with a sacrifice fly for the second out of the inning.  Quinn McDaniel knocked in the go-ahead run with a single to right.

Andrew Fischer evened the score with a lead-off homer in the fourth.  Fischer has eighteen homers, a 25-game on-base streak, and a ten-game hitting streak after that game-tying blast.  He has homered three times in the five games of this series at Cedar Rapids.

Wande Torres took over for Woodward in the bottom of the fourth and retired the first two batters.  The third out was elusive.  He hit Kernels number nine hitter Harry Genth and gave up an infield single to Marek Houston.  Eduardo Tait put Cedar Rapids back in front with a single to right to score Genth.  Brandon Winokur followed with a three-run home run for a 6-2 lead.

Wisconsin tightened the score in the sixth inning.  Marco Dinges and Fischer singled to start the frame.  Eric Bitonti blasted a home run to left-center with one out to pull the Rattlers to within a run.

Winokur was hit by a pitch to open the seventh.  Torres unsuccessfully tried to pick Winokur off first base three times.  When Winokur was back safe a third time, he was granted second on a balk.  Torres got the next two batters with Winokur still at second base.  McDaniel added the key insurance run with a single to right for a 7-5 lead.

Xavier Kolhosser, the third Kernels pitcher of the night, entered in the top of the seventh and retired the first seven batters he faced.  Luis Castillo snapped that streak with a one-out, solo home run to the scoreboard in the top of the ninth to bring Wisconsin to within a run.  Kolhosser closed out the inning and the game by retiring the next two hitters for the Kernels second straight win.

Saturday was the fourth time this season Wisconsin has hit four homers in a game.  The Rattlers won the first three games of this series with the Kernels claiming wins on Friday and Saturday.

West Division leading South Bend won 13-2 at Quad Cities on Saturday.  That result coupled with the Rattlers loss to the Kernels has dropped Wisconsin to five games back of the Cubs (34-19).  Wisconsin has eleven games left in the first half.  South Bend has ten games remaining on their first half schedule.

The series finale is Sunday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Travis Smith (6-1, 8.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Kernels will go with Garrett Horn (0-0, 1.50) as their starter.  Game time is 1:05pm.

Blizzard fall to common opponent for second time this season snapping win streak

The Green Bay Blizzard had their six-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night in Moline, falling to the Quad City Steamwheelers 43-37 in one of the wilder games of the IFL season.

This one had everything. Lead changes, turnovers, a fumble reversal on a goal line play, trick plays, and a final hail mary. Yet all of it just wasn't enough as Green Bay fell to Quad City on the road for the second time this season.

Draysean Hudson hauled in four catches for 63 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth on a stunning contested catch, followed by a double reverse pass from Hudson back to Thompson for the two-point conversion to put Green Bay up 37-34.

However, Quad City answered. Jazeric Peterson punched one in with 19 seconds left and David Stevens hit the deuce to seal it 43-37.

Jarrod Ware was the difference maker for Quad City, rushing for 54 yards and two touchdowns while Daquan Neal was efficient all night going 12-of-16 through the air.

Franky West Jr. and Brian Horn each led the defense with 10 tackles apiece.

Green Bay falls to 9-2, with both losses coming on the road at Quad City. The Blizzard drop to the two seed as Jacksonville defeated San Antonio earlier in the night. Green Bay gets Jacksonville at home next Friday for Backyard Night at Freeze Field. Kickoff is 7pm.

Glory women get rematch against Bavarians

The Green Bay Glory women go back to work at Sunday when they welcome the Bavarians to Aldo Santaga Stadium on the UWGB campus for a 2 p.m. kick.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Blizzard looks for revenge Saturday vs. Steamwheelers

Only one team has had the better end of the Green Bay Blizzard this season, and they just so happen to be lining up against them on Saturday in Moline, Ill.

The Blizzard will cross state lines to play the Quad City Steamwheelers for a third time this season. In the Blizzard's last game, they outscored the San Antonio Gunslingers 23-0 in the fourth quarter to sprint to a 62-28 win for their sixth straight victory. Liam Thompson threw for three touchdowns and rush for another one while teammate Kairee Robinson nearly rushed for 90 yards while finding the endzone four times himself in the rout.

The Blizzard beat the Steamwheelers 65-40 on May 8th, but a 51-36 road loss remains the team's lone blemish on the season.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Rockers outlast Dock Spiders in extras

The Green Bay Rockers needed three extra innings to beat Fond du Lac on Thursday night, winning 5-4 in 12 innings.

The Rockers led 2-0 after five innings before the Dock Spiders tallied runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. The two teams traded single tallies in the 10th and 11th innings before RJ Furcal Jr drove in John Handy on a sacrifice fly to win the game.

Max Humphrey and Eli Selga each had two hits while Furcal, Selga, Mike Dee, Dom Bello, and Zach Novakowski registered RBI.

Ricky Howell earned the win as the last man out of the bullpen, allowing one run (0 ER) on no hits while striking out two over the final two innings.

Timber Rattlers Pop Kernels for Fourth Straight Win

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Cedar Rapids Kernels battled all night long and right down to the wire on Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The Timber Rattlers had just enough to escape a bases loaded jam in the ninth and close out an 8-5 victory over the Kernels.

The Timber Rattlers (29-22) scored four times in the first inning.  The first three hitters walked against Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Michael Ross.  Josh Adamczewski, who had five RBI in Wednesday’s 10-4 win for Wisconsin, gave the Rattlers the lead on Thursday with a two-run single to center.

Adamczewski stole second with Daniel Dickinson at the plate and the move paid dividends almost immediately for the Rattlers.  Dickinson sent a drive to left-center, the deepest part of Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Yasser Mercedes made a fine running catch near the wall about 405 feet from home plate.  Andrew Fischer, the runner at third, tagged and scored easily.  Adamczewski tagged from second and never stopped running until he crossed home plate for a two-run sacrifice fly and a 4-0 lead.

The Kernels (26-28) also got on the scoreboard in the first.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Josh Knoth walked Brandon Winokur and gave up a two-run home run to Eduardo Tait to bring Cedar Rapids to within two runs two batters into the bottom of the first.  Knoth retired the next three batters in order to end the inning.

Adamczewski struck again in the top of the third with a two-run home run to center and a 6-2 lead.  Adamczewski has nine homers on the season and nine RBI in his last two games.

Fischer, who had already extended his on-base streak to 23 games with two walks earlier in the game, lined a single to right to drive in Luis Peña in the fifth.  Fischer moved his current hitting streak to eight games with that RBI single to make the score 7-2.

Tait hit a lead-off homer in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Jack Seppings.  Khadim Diaw followed with a double.  He moved to third on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Quinn McDaniel.

Brandon Winokur got the Kernels to within 7-5 on a two-out, RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh.  Seppings got Diaw to end the inning on a high popup as rain started to fall.

The seventh inning could have been much worse for the Rattlers.  Danny DeAndrade started the inning with a double to left-center that landed just out of the reach of Adamczewski, who made a diving attempt at a catch after a long run to his left.  The next batter sent a flyball to left.  Adamczewski had a long run to his right and this time he was able to make the diving catch for the first out.

The rain slackened but the tension tightened in the eighth with several close calls leaving both teams fuming at fate.  The drama was ratcheted up even more for the ninth inning.

Eston Stull, the fourth pitcher of the night for the Kernels, walked the first three Rattlers of the ninth.  Braylon Payne took a called third strike and was ejected from the game.  Peña, in his return to the lineup after leaving Tuesday’s game with illness and sitting out Wednesday, delivered an insurance run for the Rattlers with a sacrifice fly.  Another walk to Fischer loaded the bases and brought Adamczewski to the plate.

The Rattlers cleanup batter didn’t have a chance to add to their advantage.  Stull threw the ball to the backstop on a 1-1 pitch.  Luiyin Alastre, the runner at third tried to score.  The ball took a weird carom back to Tait.  The Kernels catcher caught the ball, turned, and lunged at Alastre.  The call was out and the Rattlers missed on a chance to make it a four-run lead.

Seppings gave up a lead-off single in the ninth.  Then, he induced a 5-4-3 double play to get the Rattlers close to victory.  But a hit batsman and a walk on a 3-2 pitch ended the night for Seppings, who tossed 73 pitches in 3-2/3 innings.

Chandler Welch entered the game to face Winokur, the potential tying run.  Welch walked Winokur on four pitches to load the bases and bring Tait to the plate with the winning run.

Tait hit a line drive to center on a 1-0 pitch.  Alastre was playing very deep but was able to race in and over to make the catch for the final out of the game.

Wisconsin has won four straight games, their second four-game winning streak of the season and first since April 21-24.

Game four of the series is set for Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Ethan Dorchies (1-4, 7.30) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Riley Quick (0-1, 4.41) has been named as the starter for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Packers to host Family Night under Friday night lights

The Green Bay Packers announced a key part of their summer programming on Thursday, placing its popular Family Night scrimmage on August 7th.

The format of this year's Family Night will once again be a full practice, in order for the team to accomplish its preparation goals for the regular season with the rest of the training camp schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.

Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m., with the team taking the field for warmups at 7 p.m. and practice beginning at 7:30. Tickets go on sale on June 15th.

Adamczewski Drives in Five for Wisconsin

Josh Adamczewski had a big day at the plate for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a 10-4 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.  Adamczewski finished a triple shy of the cycle, drove in five runs, stole a base, scored two runs, and even threw out a runner at the plate to contribute to the win.

Adamczewski’s day started in the top of the first with a two-out, two-run double to give the Rattlers (28-22) a 2-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids (26-27) got a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Jay Thomason. The Kernels loaded the bases with one out against Wisconsin starting pitcher Braylon Owens before the hurler escaped with a pair of popouts to end the threat and maintain the lead.

Consecutive two-out doubles by Josiah Ragsdale and Marco Dinges plated a run for the Rattlers in the top of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.

Adamczewski got to show off his arm as he saved a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Quinn McDaniel reached on a one-out triple.  Thomason hit a flyball to medium left and McDaniel challenged Adamczewski by trying to score.  The throw was on target and in plenty of time.  Blayberg Diaz dropped the tag on McDaniel for the inning-ending double play for Adamczewski’s sixth outfield assist of the season.

The Rattlers added to their lead in the top of the fifth with Adamczewski leading the way.  He singled with one out, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Tayden Hall.

Five runs in the sixth inning pushed Wisconsin’s lead to 9-1.  Braylon Payne, playing in his first game since May 21, singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs.  Adamczewski followed with a three-run home run, his eighth homer of the year.

Owens found his footing after the bottom of the second.  He would pitch five innings, allow one run, and put himself in line for his second win of the season.

The Kernels wouldn’t go quietly.  In their half of the sixth, Yasser Mercedes hit a three-run home run with one out against Tanner Perry, who replaced Owens to start the inning.

Perry recovered and struck out the next two batters to end the rally.  He would pitch a perfect seventh and – thanks to a double play – work around three hits for a scoreless eighth.

Daniel Dickinson got the Wisconsin offense to double digits in runs with a two-out, RBI double in the top of the eighth.

José Nova, who had been reinstated from Wisconsin’s development list earlier in the day, closed out the game with a scoreless, hitless ninth inning.  Nova walked three and struck out three in the frame.

Ragsdale went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored to extend his current hitting streak to a season-high seven games (11-for-29).   Ragsdale also racked up his team-leading fourteenth multi-hit game of the season with his Wednesday afternoon performance.

Payne celebrated his return to the lineup with two walks and two runs scored to go along with that two-run single.

The Timber Rattlers have won three in a row and are now 18-7 in road games this season.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Josh Knoth (0-0, 1.80) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Michael Ross (4-2, 5.27) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Wisconsin Wins a Wild One in Cedar Rapids

The first game of the season between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Cedar Rapids Kernels featured big comebacks by both teams, wild swings of emotion, and crazy moments.  The Timber Rattlers earned the 14-11 victory Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Field with a huge two-out rally in the top of the seventh, an important two-run homer in the eighth for insurance, and lockdown pitching from the bullpen over the final four innings.

Wisconsin (27-22) jumped out to an early lead.  Luis Peña reached with one out on an infield single.  Andrew Fischer followed with a home run to left for the 2-0 advantage.

Fischer has hit sixteen homers in 45 games this season.  He is tied with Thomas Dillard for the most homers in a single season by a Rattler since the franchise moved up to the High-A classification for the 2021 season.  Dillard hit his sixteen homers in 78 games during the inaugural season at High-A in 2021.

Josiah Ragsdale doubled the Wisconsin lead with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the second.

The bottom of second was trouble for the Timber Rattlers.  Peña became ill at his shortstop position with a runner at second and no outs and left the game.

The Kernels (26-26) would score a run on a double steal with Yasser Mercedes stealing home after a throw to second on a steal attempt by Quinn McDaniel.  Rattlers starting pitcher J.D. Thompson walked Jay Thomason with one out, got a strikeout for the second out, and went to 3-2 to Marek Houston before leaving the game with an injury.

Garrett Hodges entered the game from the Wisconsin bullpen and threw ball four to Houston before striking out Eduardo Tait for the final out to leave the bases loaded.

Daniel Dickinson made it 6-1 in favor of the Timber Rattlers with another two-out, two-run double in the top of the third.

Cedar Rapids narrowed the gap with an RBI single by Khadim Diaw in the third.

The fourth was a tightrope walk for Hodges as the first five Kernels reached on two walks and a single, an error by Dickinson, and a single by Brandon Winokur scoring two runs.  Hodges left the bases loaded with a popout to shallow right and back-to-back strikeouts.

The Rattlers added three runs in the top of the fifth for what appeared to be a very comfortable lead of 9-4.  A throwing error on a potential inning-ending double play let Marco Dinges score from second.  Luis Castillo followed with a towering home run to right, his sixth home run of the season.

Travis Smith took over in the bottom of the fifth and worked a scoreless inning.  The sixth was very different.  The first seven Kernels reached base against him and all seven scored to grab an 11-9 advantage.

The inning started with consecutive walks.  Diaw doubled in one run.  An error by Luiyin Alastre, Peña’s replacement at short, allowed the second run to score.  McDaniel singled to load the bases.  Another error on Alastre let in one more run.  Then, Thomason pounced on a first pitch from Smith and launched a grand slam to put the Kernels in front for the first time in the game.

Wisconsin responded in their next turn at bat.  Castillo was at first with two outs when Ragsdale, who was on base five times in the game, drew a walk to bring Alastre to the plate.  Alastre got immediate redemption with a double to left to score Castillo.  Fischer was next and he hit a line drive single to right to score both Ragsdale and Alastre for an 12-11 lead.

Tensions boiled over in the top of the eighth.  Josh Adamczewski was at the plate with Dinges at first base and was ruled to have gone around on a check swing by base umpire Dylan Reeves for strike three for the first out of the inning.  Adamczewski stood at the plate in disbelief for a moment and walked lowly back to the Wisconsin dugout.  Plate umpire Dakota Kilgore ejected Adamczewski and also manager Nick Stanley, who charged down from third to protect Adamczewski.

The dust settled eventually before Bitonti stirred up the Wisconsin dugout three pitches later by hitting a long two-run homer to left-center on an 0-2 pitch for a 14-11 lead.

Yerlin Rodriguez, who had taken over for Smith in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings yielded the mound to Ayendy Bravo for the eighth.  Bravo pitched a perfect inning, the first of the night by a pitcher on either team.  He went back out in the ninth and – despite two walks – nailed down his first Midwest League save.

Fischer (2-for-5) and Ragsdale (3-for-4) each collected their team-leading thirteenth multi-hit game of the season.  Bitonti stayed hot as he was 2-for-3 for his fourth multi-hit game during a five-game hitting streak during which he is 10-for-19 with eight runs scored.

Tuesday also marked the second game in a row for Fischer and Castillo to hit home runs for the Rattlers.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Braylon Owens (1-0, 4.24) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cedar Rapids has named Dasan Hill (1-4, 6.26) as their starter.  Game time is 12:05pm.

Braves double up Ports on 105.1 The GOAT

A fast start and dominant relief pitching powered Kolberg (3-0) past West Jacksonport (1-2) 10-5 on Sunday in Door County Baseball League week 4 action. The game was broadcast live on 105.1 The GOAT and the NEW Radio Sports Network.

Kolberg seized control early, capitalizing on patience at the plate in the first inning. Nick LeCaptian and Tyler Neinas each drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs, and Devin Schinktgen followed with a two-run single to give the Braves a 4-0 lead before West Jacksonport recorded an out.

The Ports answered immediately. Woody Schartner electrified the home crowd with a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the first, cutting the deficit in half while his son Frankie was on the mic.

Kolberg added to its lead in the second on Trevor Reinhardt’s solo home run to center, but West Jacksonport continued to battle back. Jake Lebotte’s sacrifice fly in the third helped the Ports pull even at 5-5, erasing the early deficit.

The game remained tied until the sixth, when Kolberg broke through. Neinas delivered a two-run triple to give the Braves the lead, and pinch hitter Sam Koss followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 8-5.

From there, Reinhardt took over on the mound. The Kolberg reliever shut down the Ports over six innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 12. Despite issuing six walks, Reinhardt kept West Jacksonport off the scoreboard to secure the victory.

Kolberg finished with 10 hits and 11 walks. Neinas led the Braves with four RBIs, while LeCaptian, Schinktgen and Jack Peterson each had two hits. Austin Rohe reached base four times via walk.

After tacking on a run in the sixth inning on a Brady Kita solo shot to make it 4-1, the Cubs tied the game in the seventh with three runs with Caleb Hoffman's single, an error, and Quinn Schram sacrifice fly driving in the runners. Kita broke the tie in the seventh  with a single before Drew Price drove an insurance run in the eighth on a double.

Rockers bit by Woodchucks late

The Green Bay Rockers still can't figure out a way to beat the Wausau Woodchucks this season, falling to their divisional rivals on Sunday 11-10.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Rockers pushed across four runs thanks in part to a Zach Novakowski double. The Woodchucks tied the game in the ninth inning before both teams went on a tear in extra innings. The two teams each scored three runs in the 10th inning, but a Dawson Harman double proved to be the difference for the Woodchucks as it pushed across the eventual winning run. The Rockers plated two runs in their half of the 11th inning thanks to a two-run double by Caden Mitchell, but Novakowski popped out to end the threat.

Novakowski led the Rockers with a 2-5 afternoon with two doubles and three RBI.

Ricky Howell took the loss for the Rockers, allowing six runs (4 ER) on five hits across 1.1 innings while striking out two.

Sunday Win at Home for Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had been 0-2 with two ugly losses in Sunday home games going into today’s contest against the Peoria Chiefs at Neuroscience Group Field.  This Sunday was much different with a 5-3 win over the Chiefs behind solid pitching from a trio of pitchers and homers from Luis Castillo and Andrew Fischer.

Cameron Nickens gave the Chiefs (24-27) a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with a two-run double.

Castillo brought Wisconsin (26-22) back to even with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second.

Peoria scored a run in the top of the fifth inning and were looking for a lot more before Rattlers starting pitcher Wande Torres shut them down.  Tre Richardson III started the inning with an infield single with two errors on the play allowing him to take third base.  Jesús Báez doubled to drive in Richardson for a 3-2 lead.  Torres walked the next batter before he got a 6-4-3 double play and a grounder to short to end the inning.

The Chiefs nearly added to their lead against reliever Quinton Low in the top of the sixth after a single and a walk with one out and a hit batsman with two outs loaded the bases.  Low struck out Jesús Báez, Low’s third strikeout of the inning, to end the rally and hold the deficit at a single run.

Wisconsin rallied in the bottom of the sixth.  Two walks and a single loaded the bases with no outs against Peoria reliever Ruben Menes.  Daniel Dickinson drew a four-pitch walk to force in the tying run.  Menes got a strikeout for the first out.  Then, Juan Baez beat out a potential inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to allow the go-ahead run to score from third.

Fischer gave the Rattlers an insurance run with a solo homer, his fifteenth home run of the season, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Chandler Welch closed out the game with three scoreless innings for his first professional save, but not without incident.  Welch retired the Chiefs in order in the seventh but gave up a single and a walk to the first two batters in the eighth.  Welch got a flyout to left and two strikeouts to finish that inning.

In the top of the ninth, Jesús Báez walked as the lead-off batter.  Báez tried to steal second with Jack Gurevitch at the plate but was thrown out by catcher Daniel Garcia for the first out of the ninth.  Welch got Gurevitch on a grounder to first only to see Jalin Flores single to extend the game and bring the tying run to the plate for the second time in the inning.  Josh Kross sent a sinking line drive to leftfield that Josh Adamczewski caught to end the game.

Wisconsin pitchers kept the Chiefs in the ballpark on Sunday to snap Peoria’s home run streak at sixteen games.  Torres, Low, and Welch also held the Chiefs to 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with game one of a six-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Iowa.  J.D. Thompson (0-1, 5.40) is the announced starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Game time is 6:35pm.
