Gunnar Conboy's goal midway through the extra time completed the comeback for the Green Bay Gamblers as they beat the Dubuque Fighting Saints 3-2 on Monday.

Gavin Katz's game-tying goal midway through the first period looked to be the lone tally the Gamblers would get against Fighting Saints netminder Owen Crudale. Trailing 2-1 in the closing two minutes of the third period, Andrew O'Sullivan found the back of the net to push the game into overtime and set up Conboy's heroics.

Owen Buesgens tallied two assists and Katz added an assist in the Gamblers win. Joey Slavick picked up the win in goal as he stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

Gamblers open second half with road win, hold sole possession of first

The Green Bay Gamblers opened the second half of the season in strong fashion Saturday night, pulling away from the Dubuque Fighting Saints for a 6-3 road victory at ImOn Arena.

After trading special teams goals in the opening period, Dubuque briefly grabbed momentum early in the second. Green Bay answered quickly, scoring three goals in a span of under nine minutes to flip the game and take control. Owen Wooten continued his hot streak, scoring his 20th of the season, while goals from Conboy and Gulley helped the Gamblers turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead.

Green Bay shut the door in the third period, outscoring Dubuque 2-0 and limiting the Saints’ chances down the stretch. Tucker Slavick made 24 saves in net as the Gamblers finished strong and pulled away with an empty-net goal late.

With the win, Green Bay starts the second half of the season on a high note and holds sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference and the best record in the USHL.

Green Bay run all over by Derrick Henry and the Ravens

With Jordan Love sidelined by a concussion, Malik Willis made the start at quarterback for Green Bay, but it was Derrick Henry who stole the spotlight as the Ravens rolled past the Packers 41-24 Saturday night at Lambeau Field.

Henry was dominant from the opening drive, rushing for 216 yards on 36 carries and scoring four touchdowns, three of them in the first half. Green Bay struggled to slow the Ravens’ ground attack all night, forcing just one punt and losing the turnover battle.

The Packers showed fight coming out of halftime, trimming the deficit to three, but Baltimore answered immediately. Quarterback Tyler Huntley, filling in for the injured Lamar Jackson, led a steady drive to push the lead back to double digits, and Green Bay would not threaten again.

Willis turned in a strong performance despite the loss, throwing for 288 yards and a touchdown to Christian Watson while adding two rushing scores of his own. Still, the defense could not come up with the stops needed to keep pace.

The loss marks Green Bay’s third straight and clinches the NFC North for Chicago. The Packers now turn their attention to getting healthy as they prepare for a Week 18 matchup with Minnesota before heading into a first-round wild card game.

Packers back into the playoffs following Lions loss

The Green Bay Packers found a playoff spot under the Christmas tree this year and it was not because of Santa.

Six turnovers led to the Detroit Lions falling to the Minnesota Vikings 23-10. Former Packer Aaron Jones rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings win that gave the Packers their third straight playoff appearance.

The Packers still have opportunities to improve their seeding with matchups against the Ravens on Saturday and the Vikings next Sunday, plus a little help from their friends like the Lions, who are now eliminated from the playoffs.

Kickoff against the Ravens is set for Saturday at 7:20 p.m.

Second-half woes down Phoenix vs. Fighting Camels

Campbell shot nearly 72 percent from the field in the second half to sprint past the Green Bay men's basketball team on Tuesday afternoon 102-79.

The first half was a game of runs with the Fighting Camels scoring the first five points before the Phoenix rallied to take a 15-10 lead. The Fighting Camels had the last laugh in the period as they carried a 44-37 advantage in the locker room. Things went south in a hurry in the second half as the Fighting Camels hit eight three-pointers compared to just one for the Phoenix after the break as they stretched the lead to as much as 30 points. A late 7-0 run by the Phoenix made the score a little more respectable before the final buzzer sounded.

Former Phoenix and current Camels star Jeremiah Johnson led all scorers with 27 points. The Phoenix meanwhile were led by Preston Ruedinger (14 points), Marcus Hall (12 points), and C.J. O'Hara (10 points).

The Phoenix men are off until New Year's Day when they travel to Indiana to face Purdue Fort Wayne, who entered the holiday break with a recent upset win over Notre Dame.

The Fighting Camels enter the game 5-7, with three of those losses coming against P5 Schools and one against seventh-ranked Gonzaga. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.

UWGB girls shooting struggles lead to non-conference loss

In the final non-conference game of the regular season for UW-Green Bay they dropped a 7-point first quarter lead to Miami (OH) and were outscored in the remaining three quarters losing 66-50 on the road.

Green Bay (8-5) has only lost in non-conference affairs this season and today's matchup was driven by shooting struggles that started in the second quarter after a 18-11 lead through the first frame. Miami's defense held them to 6 points in the second quarter to even the game up at halftime.

The Phoenix finished shooting 32.6% from the field and 38.9% behind the arc. After the first quarter fire,  40% from the field and a staggering 4-7 from downtown, they slowed down mightly.

Jenna Guyer led the way for UWGB with 12 points in 29 minutes. Four Miami (OH) starters tallied double figures and only five notched a point, including 6 points off the bench from Clara Gonzalez Planella. Ilse de Vries finished with 20 to top all scorers.

Green Bay gets a 10-day break and will face Wright State on the road Dec. 30th at 6 p.m.

Packers let one slip away against the Bears

The Green Bay Packers saw a multiple-score lead slip away for the second time in as many weeks Sunday night, falling to the Chicago Bears 22-16 in overtime.

It was a field goal competition until backup quarterback Malik Willis found Romeo Doubs for a 33-yard touchdown to put the Packers up 13-6. The field goals continued until the final two Bears drives with Caleb Williams throws ending regulation and ending the game with touchdowns, including a 46-yard touchdown strike to DJ Moore.

The Packers will have a week to lick their wounds and hope for some luck ahead of their Saturday night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday night.

Gamblers facing Steel on Saturday and Monday

The Green Bay Gamblers are preparing for this Saturday and Monday as they will face the Chicago Steel. Saturday's game will see them on the road, while on Monday, they will be playing at home. The Gamblers are looking to keep their winning momentum going as they extended their win streak this past weekend to 11 games. From his performance this past weekend, Wooten earned USHL Forward of the Week. Goals also came from Gavin Katz, Ethan Drabicki, and Owen Buesgens. Leo Henriquez was awarded the win, saving 30/32 shots on goal.

Packers hitting the road to take on the Bears

The Green Bay Packers face a must-win situation this Saturday against their division rivals, the Chicago Bears, on the road for their last shot at a playoff berth.

The team is looking to bounce back from a 34-26 loss to the Broncos, where key offensive performances included Jordan Love's 305 all-purpose yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions, Josh Jacobs' 73 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, along with 19 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown, and Brandon McManus accounting for 14 points with a perfect kicking game. Defensively, Quay Walker led the team with 9 tackles, Edgerrin Cooper contributed 8 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Xavier McKinney added 7 tackles. However, a significant setback from the loss was a torn ACL sustained by Micah Parsons in the third quarter, which will sideline him for the rest of the season and requires a 6-10 month recovery.

The kick-off is at 7:20 PM.

Phoenix women's basketball on the road to face Redhawks

The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team is hitting the road this Saturday to face the Miami Ohio RedHawks at Millet Hall. The Phoenix are looking to bounce back from their recent loss to the #20-ranked Washington, 79-74. Leading the Phoenix in points was Jenna Guyer with 19, also having 8 rebounds and a steal. Maddy Skorupski chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Carley Duffney and Megahn Schultz each contributed 13 points. Leading the Phoenix in assists and steals was Kamy Peppler, having 7 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals.

Gottlieb steps away from radio show to focus on Phoenix

Green Bay's 67-64 victory over UC-Santa Barbara caused tears for more than one reason for head coach Doug Gottlieb.

The Phoenix head coach announced after the nail-biting win that he was stepping away from his longtime syndicated radio show to focus on his head coaching duties.

"I’ve been doing it for a long time, but these kids (deserve) a fully dedicated coach. I know I’m fully dedicated, but you only get one shot at this thing," Gottlieb said in his post-game presser after sharing a story about how a lawyer told him how he was listening the day he called in about the birth of his twin children over 20 years ago.

Gottlieb went on to say that while the live radio show will not be around, he will still produce his podcast in his time outside of his coaching duties in an effort to avoid future conflicts like flying behind his team's bus trip to Indianapolis and his Super Bowl radio row hits during the crunch of his team's Horizon League slate.

"I have got to have a life, I have got to be here for those kids, and I have really got to dig in, because we are building something cool here,” Gottlieb said.

The Phoenix have already won more games this year (six) in 13 games than they did all of last year in 32 games.

Phoenix men hold on against Gauchos

For the second time this year, the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team saw a double-digit lead disappear at the Kress Events Center, but this time held on to beat the UC-Santa Barbara  Gauchos 67-64.

The Phoenix got out to a fast start, scoring 15 of the game's first 19 points and held on to a 42-30 lead at the break thanks in part to hitting 10 three-pointers in the first half. In the second half, the Gauchos got it to within two points before a 9-2 Phoenix run stretch the proceedings out again. The Gauchos had a chance to tie the game late, but the Phoenix defense trusted themselves to get the job done without fouling and forced them to take a shot after the final buzzer sounded.

Marcus Hall led the Phoenix (6-7) with a season-high 25 points while Preston Ruedinger added eight points and Ramel Bethea, Keegan Van Kauwenberg, and Mac Wrecke each chipped in six points.

After the game, head coach Doug Gottlieb announced he was stepping away from his radio show to focus on his head coaching duties and his family.

The Phoenix will play its final non-conference game on December 23rd at Campbell.

Phoenix men's basketball hosting Gauchos

The UW-Green Bay men’s basketball team is hosting the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos this Wednesday at the Kress Event Center. The Gauchos' last outing saw them losing to Utah Valley 68-53. The Phoenix secured an 85-75 comeback victory against IU-Indianapolis, after trailing 36-33 at halftime. Leading the charge were Lebron Thomas, CJ O’Hara, and Preston Ruedinger, each contributing 20 points. Their all-around efforts were notable: Thomas added 5 rebounds and a steal, O’Hara tallied 5 rebounds and a block, and Ruedinger finished with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal.

This past week, the Gamblers played 3 games, and Wooten tallied 6 goals, including a hat-trick on Saturday against the Madison Capitols.

Packers' Micah Parsons out for the rest of the season with torn ACL

Micah Parsons of the Green Bay Packers suffered a non-contact knee injury in the week 15 game agaisnt the Denver Broncos. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media states that an MRI confirmed the fear in Packer fans across the world, that Parsons suffered a torn ACL. Parsons is to miss the rest of this season and face a 6-to 10-month recovery. The injury occurred in the 3rd quarter as Parsons was rushing for Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. Parsons landed on his left foot awkwardly, immediately going down, holding his knee. Parsons was acquired via trade from the Dallas Cowboys in August. Heading into Sunday's game, Parsons was one of the frontliners for Defensive Player of the Year, having 39 tackles, 26 QB hits, and 12.5 sacks. Parsons stated on X, “I may be sidelined, but I am not defeated. This injury is my greatest test—a moment God allowed to strengthen my testimony. I believe He walks with me through this storm and chose me for this fight because He knew my heart could carry it. I’m deeply grateful to the Packers organization and my teammates for their unwavering support, love, and belief in me during this season. I trust His timing, His plan, and His purpose. I will rise again.”

Packers lose much more than game against Broncos

The sky is falling for many fans after Sunday's game, and not just because they lost to the Denver Broncos 34-26.

The Packers took an early 6-0 lead against the Broncos thanks to two Brandon McManus field goals, but the inability to turn those drives into touchdowns became apparent when Bo Nix found Michael Bandy to make it 7-6. The two teams traded touchdowns before McManus' third field goal gave the Packers a 16-14 halftime lead.

Josh Jacobs opened the second half with a 40-yard touchdown run to make it 23-14, but the smiling stopped after that. Nix threw two more touchdown passes and Troy Franklin found the endzone as well while all the Packers could muster was a field goal. During the second half, Love threw two critical interceptions while the Packers lost pass rusher Micah Parsons (knee), wide receiver Christian Watson (chest/shoulder), safety Evan Williams (knee) and right tackle Zach Tom (knee). The fear is Parsons is lost for the season after reportedly tearing his ACL while the others could be lost for at least this Saturday's tilt against the now NFC North-leading Chicago Bears.

Love ended his day with 276 yards, a touchdown, and two picks while Jacobs racked up 73 yards on 12 carries to go along with his score. Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, and Matthew Golden all had at least three catches and over 50 yards receiving in the loss.

Saturday's game at Soldier Field against the Bears will kickoff at 7:20 p.m.

UWGB girls nearly upset #20 Washington

Coach Karius' program has gotten off to a strong start in her first season, and the Phoenix almost took off the 20th-ranked program in the nation, but a slow fourth quarter allowed the Huskers to claw their way back to a 79-74 victory.

It was a 65-56 lead heading into the last frame when Washington had their biggest quarter, while holding the explosive Phoenix offense, outscoring UWGB 23-9.

Only their fourth loss of the season, Green Bay still put up a strong fight to one of the nation's best teams as four finished in double figures. Jenna Guyer totaled 19 points and added eight rebounds. Maddy Skorupski had 14 points with eight boards, and Meghan Schultz and Carley Duffney contributed 13 points a piece. Sayvia Sellers led Washington, and all scorers, with 30 points.

The Phoenix continue to play with immense trust in their teammates and it has propelled them to a 8-4 start, 3-0 in Horizon League play. A week will pass before their next opponent, Miami (OH), another non-conference road matchup. Tipoff is set for noon Dec. 20.

Gamblers surge past Capitols and takeover first in front of packed Resch Center

The Green Bay Gamblers fed off the energy of a crowd of 4,286 at the Resch Center Saturday night, rolling to a convincing 6-2 win over the Madison Capitols. They've positioned themselves now in first place in the Eastern Conference while totaling the most points in the league with 41.

Green Bay struck first in the opening period with goals from Wooten and Katz, including a power-play tally, and never looked back. The Gamblers took full control in the second period as Wooten added two more goals to complete a hat trick and build a 4-0 advantage.

Madison found the net twice early in the third, but any momentum was short-lived. Green Bay answered quickly and capped the night with an empty-net goal from Drabicki to put the game away. Henriquez turned in a strong performance between the pipes with 30 saves, while the Gamblers’ defense limited Madison to 0-for-4 on the power play.

With a loud home crowd behind them, Green Bay yet another weekend series on the season allowing them to slide into first place.

Gamblers win tight one in Chicago, climb to second in Eastern Conference

The Green Bay Gamblers continued their strong stretch Friday night, edging the Chicago Steel 3–2 on the road to move into second place in the Eastern Conference.

Green Bay struck first midway through the opening period when Drabicki finished a setup from McKinney and Martin. Chicago answered with two goals just 15 seconds apart late in the first, but the Gamblers responded again before the break as Katz buried a power-play goal to knot it at two.

The difference came early in the second period. Wooten netted his 16th of the season just over four minutes in, and that would stand as the game-winner. From there, it became a grind-it-out effort.

Neither team found gold in the third as Green Bay leaned on strong defensive play and timely saves from Henriquez, who stopped 22 of 24 shots to seal it. The Gamblers also held Chicago scoreless on two power-play chances.

With the win, the Gamblers continue to build momentum and now sit second in the Eastern Conference standings, playing again Saturday night at the Resch Center against Madison.

Phoenix men take down Jags

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team used an 18-5 run to start the second half to secure their first Horizon League win of the season, beating IU-Indianapolis 85-75 in The Jungle.

The game looked like it was getting away from the Phoenix before a 9-0 run helped them reel in the Jaguars. The two teams traded blows the rest of the first half with the Jaguars taking a 36-33 lead into the locker room. The 18-5 run gave the Phoenix the lead, but the Jaguars would not go down without a growl, cutting the deficit to one before they salted the game away at the free throw line, knocking down 12 in the final minutes to secure the win.

LeBron Thomas, C.J. O'Hara, and Preston Ruedinger each scored 20 points in the Phoenix win while the Jaguars were led by Micah Davis and D'Augustino, who each scored 17 points apiece.

Henriquez last represented Slovakia at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this summer, appearing in two games with a 93.1 save percentage.

Former Gamblers forward Will Zellers, now at the University of North Dakota, will represent Team USA. Zellers has 10 goals and five assists in 16 games for the Fighting Hawks and was named NCHC Rookie of the Month in November after scoring seven goals in seven games. Phoenix women thrash Jags

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team ended its game against Indiana University-Indianapolis on a 20-7 run to defeat the Jaguars 74-47 for their third Horizon League win of the season.

A pair of 7-0 runs in the first and fourth quarters helped the Phoenix win the game comfortbly. The Phoenix also shot an efficient 50 percent from the arc, knocking down eight three-pointers on 16 attempts to thrust them ahead of their hosts. Their defense was equally strong, holding the Jaguars to less than 30 percent shooting from the field, including 18.5 percent from deep. They also forced 16 turnovers in the contest, turning those into 24 points.

The Phoenix boasted four players in double figures including Meghan Schultz (13 points), Ellie Buzzelle (12 points), Gracie Grzesk (11 points) and Kamy Peppler (11 points).

The Phoenix will head west for one of its final non-conference games of the season when they battle #20 Washington on Saturday at noon.

Goals in that matchup came from David Rozsival, Oliver McKinney, Zach Wooten, Geno Carcone, and Owen Buesgens. Regulation ended tied 5–5, with a scoreless overtime sending the game to a shootout. Gavin Katz scored on the Gamblers’ first attempt, the Steel answered, and a Zach Wooten tally sealed the win. Goalie Joey Slavick earned the victory, stopping 23 of 28 shots.

“I am excited to again host the Green Bay Charity Softball Game,” Love said in a statement. “We had such a great time last year interacting with fans and raising money to support the community. Packers fans are the best, and I am so thankful for their support. I am looking forward to another great evening under the lights with my teammates.”

O'Sullivan and Slavick named to USHL Player of the Week awards

Two Green Bay Gamblers players have earned USHL Player of the Week honors for their performances this past week. Andrew O’Sullivan was named the USHL Defensive Player of the Week after recording a four-point performance over the weekend. He leads all USHL defensemen in points (21) and power-play points (13). O’Sullivan is also the team’s assist leader with 18 and is tied for third in total points for the Gamblers.

Joey Slavick was named the USHL Goalie of the Week. Slavick recorded his first shutout as a Gambler in a 5–0 win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday. He has started in five of the Gamblers’ last six games, winning all of them.

Packers hang on to beat Bears

It was a rough evening for Keisean Nixon, but his interception ended the game on a high note for the Green Bay Packers as they beat the Chicago Bears 28-21 Sunday evening.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jordan Love connected with Christian Watson and Bo Belton for long touchdown passes to give the Packers a 14-3 lead at halftime. The Bears made important adjustments in the locker room, scoring on their first three drives of the second half as Caleb Williams found Olamide Zaccheaus and Colston Loveland for touchdowns to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. The Packers followed up a second long touchdown pass to Christian Watson with a short touchdown run by Josh Jacobs, who kept the drive alive earlier by turning a 3rd-and-1 opportunity into a 21-yard gain. The Bears had a chance to tie the game late, but Nixon—who caused the Packers to be assessed more than 30 penalty yards due to his actions earlier in the game—hauled in an underthrown Williams pass to secure the victory.

Love ended the game with 234 yards and three passing touchdowns, overcoming an early interception. Jacobs rushed for 86 yards and a score, while Jayden Reed recorded four catches for 31 yards in his first game action since September.

The Packers will be on the road for the next two games with a Sunday matchup against the Denver Broncos before renewing pleasantries with the Bears the following Saturday.

Phoenix split against league foes Sunday

As they did last Thursday, the Green Bay basketball teams split their Horizon League games on Sunday with the women beating Youngstown State 56-47 and the men falling hard to Wright State 86-58.

In the friendly confines of the Kress Events Center, the Phoenix women responded to a 15-11 deficit after the first quarter by outscoring 15-8 in the second half to take a slim lead into the locker room. The two teams traded blows in the second half, but Green Bay native Gracie Grzesk scored seven of her 11 points in the final stanza to hold off the Penguins. It served as the perfect complement to Megan Schultz, who scored a game-high 22 points to pace the Phoenix with Jenna Guyer (11 points) and Maddy Skorupski (10 points) also reaching double figures in the game. The Phoenix did their work in the paint, outrebounding the Penguins 38-36 and scoring 36 of their 56 points in the paint.

In Dayton, it was a 33-13 run for the Raiders that thwarted Phoenix comeback dreams in the second half. The Phoenix had battled back from a 20-10 first half deficit and 49-34 shortcoming to make the game close before the gap widened late.  C.J. O'Hara led the Phoenix with 19 points while Justin Allen added 12 points in the loss.

Both teams will play at Indiana University-Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. with the women playing their Wednesday and the men following up on Thursday.

Gamblers outlast Steel in shootout thriller at the Resch

The Green Bay Gamblers wrapped up their weekend by taking down the Chicago Steel 6-5 in a shootout at the Resch Center. Green Bay continues their surge up the Eastern Conference standings.

The night was a roller coaster of momentum swings, with neither team leading by more than one goal at any point in regulation.

Green Bay struck first at 13:08 of the opening period when Jakub Rozsíval buried his 12th of the season off a feed from Brayden Timm. Chicago answered quickly, tying the game just 1:25 later on a goal from Aidan Goukler.

Early in the second, Sam McKinney put the Gamblers back on top, but Chicago again responded with Calbeck and Öhman to grab their first lead of the night. Logan Wooten continued his strong play for Green Bay, netting his 13th of the season at 16:05 to even things at 3-3 heading into the final frame.

Chicago’s David Kazda scored just two minutes into the period, but Green Bay’s Michael Carcone tied it again. The Steel regained the lead only 21 seconds later, yet the Gamblers refused to go away. Defenseman Alex Buesgens stepped into a shot and ripped home the 5-5 equalizer forcing overtime.

After a scoreless OT, the game moved to a shootout where the Gamblers found the edge. Max Katz scored on Green Bay’s first attempt, and Logan Wooten sealed the win with the second. Goaltender Adam Slavick shut down two of Chicago’s three attempts to lock in the victory.

Slavick finished with 23 saves on 28 shots, improving to 11-5-2 on the season. The Gamblers outshot the Steel 31-28 and saw offense from all over the lineup, including goals from Rozsíval, McKinney, Wooten, Carcone, and Buesgens.

The Gamblers are 8-1-1-0 in their last 10 games including 8 straight in the win column. Green Bay faces Chicago again Dec. 10 and 12 in a home-and-home starting at the Resch.

Phoenix men's basketball traveling to face Raiders

The UW-Green Bay men’s basketball team is hitting the road this Sunday to face the Wright State Raiders. The Phoenix aim to rebound from a recent 80-78 loss to Robert Morris, sealed by Nikolas Chitikoudis with a lead-giving layup in the final seconds. Leading the Phoenix in scoring was Justin Allen with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and a block. Preston Ruedinger added 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal. CJ O’Hara had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals, while Marcus Hall also scored 14 points, adding a rebound and a block.

Gamblers stay hot with comeback win over Dubuque

The Green Bay Gamblers kept their surge up the Eastern Conference standings rolling Friday night, rallying for a 2-1 road win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints at ImOn Arena.

Dubuque struck first less than two minutes in, but that would be the only puck to beat Green Bay goaltender Adam Slavick, who turned away 31 of 32 shots in another strong outing.

After a scoreless second period, the Gamblers flipped the script in the third. Harry Timm buried his first of the season at 11:23 to even things up, and Jakub Rozsíval delivered the game-winner just five minutes later off a setup from Max Katz, who tallied two assists on the night.

Green Bay finished with 29 shots while killing off all three Dubuque power plays.

With the victory, the Gamblers sit third in the Eastern Conference with 33 points, trailing only Muskegon and Youngstown, and continue one of the hottest streaks in the USHL.

Different fates reached for Green Bay basketball teams

Green Bay's basketball teams saw double-digit leads slip late in the second halves of their game with the women holding on and the men losing in frustrating fashion.

In the Phoenix women's 70-60 win over Northern Kentucky, a 20-point lead was slashed to single-digits before they were able to hold off the Norse from the free-throw line. The difference came from behind the arc where the Phoenix shot 56 percent while the Norse shot 23 percent. Four Phoenix players reached double-figures in the win including 13 points from Meghan Schultz and Jenna Guyer, Gracie Grzesk adding 12 points, and Kallie Peppler chipping in 10 points. The Phoenix women return home for an 11:30 a.m. game against Youngstown State on Sunday.

The Phoenix men were outscored 13-2 in the final 3:30 to see a win over the defending Horlzon League champions turn into an 80-78 loss to Robert Morris. The late-game run canceled out the Phoenix's own 13-2 run to start the second half that allowed them to take an 11-point lead late. The Phoenix men also had four players in double figures, led by Justin Allen (20 points), Preston Ruedinger (17 points), and Marcus Hall (14 points). They will try to bounce back on Sunday at 4 p.m. on the road when they face Wright State.

Gamblers playing back-to-back games over weekend

The Green Bay Gamblers are gearing up for a two-game weekend. On Friday, the team will travel to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints. They return home on Saturday to host the Chicago Steel.

The Gamblers carry momentum from a recent 5–2 win over the Sioux City Musketeers. Goals in that game came from David Rozsival, Landon Hafele, Adam Timm, William Samuelsson, and Zach Wooten. Goaltender Leo Henriquez stopped all six shots he faced before being sidelined after a brawl broke out in the second period. Joey Slavick finished the game, saving 13 of the 15 shots he faced.

Snyder recorded 60 total tackles (5 for loss), 1 sack, 1 interception, and 26 pass deflections. He also contributed on special teams, returning 26 kicks for 800 yards and scoring a touchdown off a blocked punt.

Receiver Draysean Hudson, a 6’0”, 175-pound veteran, is entering his third season in the IFL. He spent his first two seasons with the Sioux Falls Storm, where he showcased his versatility by logging 178 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on 24 carries, along with 866 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 66 receptions.

Blizzard, Phoenix collaborate for university's "first football game"

Years after introducing a t-shirt in its bookstore boasting an undefeated record in football since its founding, UW-Green Bay will finally put that mark to the test thanks to a unique collaboration with the Green Bay Blizzard.

The Green Bay Athletics Department and the Green Bay Blizzard announced earlier this week that the indoor football team will take on the moniker "Frozen Phoenix" for its game against the Iowa Barnstormers on April 18th. At the behest of Vince Lombardi, UW-Green Bay did not add football to its athletics portfolio when it became a university in 1965, making this the closest the school has ever been to the gridiron outside of its higher education partner status with the Green Bay Packers.

"To be able to bring the Blizzard together with UWGB, we are really excited to do that," said Green Bay Blizzard Owner Larry Treankler. "We've been very blessed to be a part of this family."

"UWGB invites you to 'Freeze With Us' for the Phoenix's first-ever football game on April 18th," said Green Bay Phoenix Director of Athletics Josh Moon. "The Blizzard have been the standard bearer of our community of amazing family fun and entertainment, and we want to emulate a lot of the things they've done to get 5,000 fans in the stands consistently. We are so thankful for their partnership."

In other Blizzard news, the organization has signed the following players to its squad over the past week:

The UW-Green Bay women's basketball team is on the road this Thursday to face the Northern Kentucky Norse. The Phoenix are aiming to rebound after a 76-59 loss to Richmond at the Cancun Challenge. Maddy Skorupski contributed 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, while Kamy Peppler added 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

The tip-off is at 5:00 PM.

Phoenix men's basketball hosting Colonials

The UW-Green Bay men’s basketball team is at home this Thursday to face the Robert Morris Colonials. The Phoenix look to continue building momentum as they ride a three-game winning streak, most recently beating Haskell 95-55. Leading the way was Preston Ruedinger, who set a new career high with 30 points. He also recorded 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Ramel Bethea led the team in rebounds with 8, adding 15 points, 2 steals, and a block. C.J. O’Hara also contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

The tip-off is at 6:00 PM.

Packers sign DL Riley

The Green Bay Packers added some defensive line depth on Wednesday with the signing of Jordon Riley to the active roster.

After being drafted by the New York Giants in 2023, he played in 21 games with five starts for the Giants in 2023-24, recording 12 tackles (seven solo), three tackles for a loss and a QB hit. He has spent the entire 2025 season on the Giants' practice squad.

The Packers also signed WR Will Sheppard to the practice squad after cutting him shortly after he suited up for the team for the game against the Detroit Lions.

Havrisik returns to Packers

The Green Bay Packers have brought back K Lucas Havrisik to its practice squad after cutting early last week.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction on Friday, welcoming back the University of Arizona product who made all four field goal attempts and 7-of-9 extra points earlier this season. One of those field goals set the all-time team record for the longest converted by a Packers kicker.

The Packers return to work at Lambeau Field on Monday as they prepare for their showdown against the first-place Chicago Bears. Sunday's kickoff from Lambeau Field is slated for 3:25 p.m.
