The night was a roller coaster of momentum swings, with neither team leading by more than one goal at any point in regulation.
Green Bay struck first at 13:08 of the opening period when Jakub Rozsíval buried his 12th of the season off a feed from Brayden Timm. Chicago answered quickly, tying the game just 1:25 later on a goal from Aidan Goukler.
Early in the second, Sam McKinney put the Gamblers back on top, but Chicago again responded with Calbeck and Öhman to grab their first lead of the night. Logan Wooten continued his strong play for Green Bay, netting his 13th of the season at 16:05 to even things at 3-3 heading into the final frame.
Chicago’s David Kazda scored just two minutes into the period, but Green Bay’s Michael Carcone tied it again. The Steel regained the lead only 21 seconds later, yet the Gamblers refused to go away. Defenseman Alex Buesgens stepped into a shot and ripped home the 5-5 equalizer forcing overtime.
After a scoreless OT, the game moved to a shootout where the Gamblers found the edge. Max Katz scored on Green Bay’s first attempt, and Logan Wooten sealed the win with the second. Goaltender Adam Slavick shut down two of Chicago’s three attempts to lock in the victory.
Slavick finished with 23 saves on 28 shots, improving to 11-5-2 on the season. The Gamblers outshot the Steel 31-28 and saw offense from all over the lineup, including goals from Rozsíval, McKinney, Wooten, Carcone, and Buesgens.
The Gamblers are 8-1-1-0 in their last 10 games including 8 straight in the win column. Green Bay faces Chicago again Dec. 10 and 12 in a home-and-home starting at the Resch.
