Round 1 of three against the Muskegon Lumberjacks went to the Green Bay Gamblers Friday night as they won 5-3 thanks to a hat trick.

Entering the second period down 1-0, the Gamblers scored three straight to take the lead thanks to two goals from Zach Wooten and one from Vasily Zelenov. Wooten registered the hat trick on an empty netter to end the game. Gavin Moffatt stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced on the night to earn the win.

The Gamblers and the Lumberjacks are back in action on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.

Green Bay basketball streaks continue

Two streaks are still alive for the Green Bay basketball programs after Thursday's games, though fans wish at least one of them would end.

In Green Bay, the Phoenix women outscored Cleveland State 26-16 in the fourth quarter to win 66-52. Natalie McNeal scored a season-high 24 points for the Phoenix to lead all scorers. Callie Genke added 11 points, Bailey Butler tallied chipped in nine points, and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz registered eight points in the victory. It was the Phoenix's 11th straight win as they sit in second place in the Horizon League. The Phoenix women will play the IU Indy Jaguars this Sunday at 1 p.m.

A second-half swoon once again doomed the Phoenix men in its 68-54 road loss to Oakland, its 21st of the season and its 17th straight. It was tied at 29 at the break before the Golden Grizzlies engineered a 19-1 run to start the second half to take control of the game. The Phoenix will stay in Michigan Saturday in hopes of snapping their dubious streak when they head to Detroit Mercy for a 12 p.m. game against the Titans.

Gamblers host Muskegon residency this weekend

You will get an opportunity to catch plenty of the Muskegon Lumberjacks this weekend at the Resch Center as the Green Bay Gamblers host their Michigan rivals for three straight evenings.

The Gamblers look to bounce back from a 6-3 Saturday night loss to Waterloo last weekend. Will Zellers and William Samuelsson each tallied goals to make 2-0 before the Black Hawks put the game away with six straight goals across a period and a half. Reece Cordray scored a goal for the Gamblers in the final eight seconds to cut the Black Hawks' advantage in half. Andrew O'Sullivan tallied two assists in the loss, while Gavin Moffatt stopped 23 of the 29 shots he faced.

The Gamblers (41 pts) are nine points behind the Lumberjacks (50 pts) in the USHL Eastern Conference standings. The Lumberjacks posted two lopsided wins last weekend against Team USA after being swept by Lincoln the previous weekend.

Friday's game is set for 7:05 p.m., Saturday's matchup is at 6:05 p.m., and Sunday's is at 3:05 p.m.

Phoenix women roll past Raiders

A career-high from Jasmine Kondrakiewicz helped the Green Bay Phoenix women beat Wright State on the road 75-62.

A slim two-point lead in the first quarter turned into another Phoenix rout by the fourth quarter as they outscored their hosts by seven in the middle of the periods to cruise to victory. Kondrakiewicz caused the Raiders' defense to fit inside as she scored 31 points, and Natalie McNeal registered a double-double for the Phoenix with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Phoenix outrebounded the Raiders 41-27, nearly duplicating their effort against the same team when the two squads faced each other in Green Bay. Claire Henson scored 12 points for the Raiders ,while Makiya Miller chipped in another 10 points in the loss.

Phoenix men falter vs. Jags, women face Raiders

It will be up to the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team to put fans back into a good mood after the men's team lost its 16th in a row Wednesday night.

The Phoenix men were down by over 20 points midway through the second half before trimming it to an 86-77 defeat to Indiana University-Indianapolis at the Resch Center. The Phoenix defense had no answer for the Jaguars' three-point shooting in the first half, which accounted for 30 of its 46 first-half points. They went on to shoot over 62 percent from behind the arc (15-24) compared to the Phoenix's 34 percent (9-26). The loss spoiled a productive night for its five players in double figures. Jeremiah Johnson led the way with 18 points. Marcus Hall and Mac Wrecke scored 12 points a piece with Preston Ruedinger and Ryan Wade each adding 11 points. The Phoenix men hit the road on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tip against Cleveland State.

Callie Genke's star has shined the brightest during that stretch, shooting 45.7 percent from behind the arc for the 10th best shooting percentage in the nation.

The Rockers will open their season on Memorial Day (May 26th) in Wisconsin Rapids before welcoming the Rafters to Capital Credit Union Park the next night for its home opener. The Northwoods League will pause for its All-Star Break July 15th-17th and begin its playoffs on August 10th. The full schedule is below:

Phoenix men drop 15th straight to Youngstown State

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team blew a double-digit lead for the second straight game as they lost their 15th consecutive contest Sunday afternoon at the Resch Center, this time a 73-69 decision to Youngstown State.

The Phoenix ended the half strong with a 7-0 run that helped them take a two-point lead into the locker room. They carried that momentum into the second half, using an 8-1 run to give them a nine-point lead. The advantage would stretch out to 11 before the Penguins went on a 10-2 run that forced the two teams to trade buckets the rest of the way.

New addition Yonatan Levy paced the Phoenix with a career-high 18 points. Ryan Wade had his own season-high 14 points off the bench, while Jeremiah Johnson added 12 points. Preston Ruedinger chipped in with 10 points and four assists.

Packers coach staff undergoing changes

The Green Bay Packers coaching staff will have at least two new faces on it in the wake of the team's playoff disappointment.

During his end-of-the-year presser, head coach Matt LaFleur shared that quarterback coach Tom Clements was retiring after a decades-long career. Clements helped tutor Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and Jordan Love during his tenure with the team. He returned to the organization in 2021 at the behest of Rodgers.

Before the weekend, the Packers axed defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich. According to Packers.com, Rebrovich has worked as an NFL coach for 11 seasons, including the last three years for the Packers.

Gamblers sweep road set

The travel between games did not bother the Green Bay Gamblers as they won their games by scores of 6-3 over Cedar Rapids on Friday and 7-4 to Chicago on Saturday.

In Friday's win, the Gamblers put up crooked numbers in the second and third periods en route to the win. Aidan Park and Will Zellers each had two goals while three others had multi-point games.

Saturday's victory saw the Gamblers come through with three goals in the second and third periods to put the game away. Zellers posted a hat trick along with an assist to lead the Gamblers. Park registered two goals and an assist as three Gamblers scored multi-point games.

Phoenix women close hard on Golden Grizzlies

A 20-4 run in the second quarter helped the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team extend its winning streak with a 69-39 win.

The game started with a 9-0 run by the Phoenix, only to see it disappear midway through the first quarter, with the home team securing a slim one-point lead. The second quarter proved to be a difference-maker for the team as the end result was never in doubt after that.  Callie Genke led the way with a season-high 22 points while Natalie McNeal added 18 points in the Phoenix's eight consecutive victory. Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schilitz added nine, surpassing 1,200 points in her Phoenix career.

The Phoenix men will get an opportunity to keep the good vibes going on Sunday when they host Youngstown State at the Resch Center at 1 p.m. They saw a double-digit lead disappear before getting blow out by Robert Morris in Friday's game.

Phoenix men collapse against Colonials

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team teased their fans with a halftime lead only to fall to Robert Morris 89-67.

Leading by double figures midway through the first half, the Phoenix started to lose their grip on the game in the latter stages of the period, taking a 45-40 lead into the locker room. The Colonials would flip the script of the game for good, scoring the game's next 28 points.

Marcus Hall ended the night with 17 points while Jeremiah Johnson added 13 points and Preston Ruedinger chipped in with eight points in the loss.

The Phoenix women will try to put supporters in a better mood Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face Oakland in hopes of sweeping their Detroit-area rivals this week.

Phoenix women topple Titans, men at home against Colonials

A busy weekend at home for the Green Bay Phoenix basketball programs got off to a good start Thursday night.

In Thursday's action, the Phoenix women closed halves strong en route to a 70-47 win over Detroit Mercy. The Phoenix outscored the visiting Titans 19-7 in the second quarter and 26-13 in the fourth quarter in an otherwise tightly contested affair. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz led the team with 17 points with an inside bucket marking her 1000th point in her Phoenix career. She was complemented by Cassie Schiltz (16 pts), Natalie McNeal (12 points) and Callie Genke (12 points). Emala O'Brien registered 15 points in the loss for the Titans. The Phoenix women are back at the Kress Events Center on Saturday when they face Oakland at 1 p.m.

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team tries to get rid of a major cloud hanging over its program on Friday when it welcomes Robert Morris to the Resch Center. The Phoenix have not won since an 82-57 win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, over a dozen games ago. They showed signs of improvement in their game last Saturday, but they ultimately fell to in-state rival 70-59. Marcus Hall and Yonatan Levy each scored 15 points, while Mac Wrecke added 13 points in the loss, the 13th in a row for the Phoenix. The Colonials are 3-4 in the Horizon League, having split their last four games. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Gamblers' unique road trip continues Friday

Compared to its usual schedule, the Green Bay Gamblers' four-game road trip concluding this weekend is a little unusual.

Like last weekend, the Gamblers will play two games in two different cities in two days. Last weekend, the Gamblers struggled after its Friday night win against the Chicago Steel, losing to the Steel in Geneva, Ill. 6-2 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday to Team USA. This weekend, the Gamblers will travel to Cedar Rapids for a Friday night game before returning to Geneva, Ill. for another matchup against the Chicago Steel on Saturday.

Both teams are looking up at the Gamblers in the USHL Eastern Conference. The Gamblers sit in 5th place with 35 points followed by the Roughriders (30 points) and the Steel (22 points).

Friday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. with Saturday's puck drop scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The Gamblers end January just as unique with three games against different teams and no back-to-backs. At the very least, they will be at home for those games.

Phoenix women return home to battle Titans

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team returns home riding a six-game winning streak to the Kress Events Center when they face Detroit Mercy on Thursday.

In their last game, the Phoenix women nearly doubled their lead in the third quarter to a 78-48 rout of Robert Morris. Natalie McNeal and Cassie Schiltz had dueling double-doubles, with McNeal scoring a team-high 22 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, while the L-C alum Schiltz registered 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Phoenix's sixth straight win. The Phoenix dominated in the paint with a 47-24 edge in rebounding and a 36-20 advantage in scoring. A win would mark the 1,100th in program history.

The Titans are off to a great start, with an 11-4 record and a 5-2 conference mark. The team's 67-59 win over in-state rival Oakland last weekend snapped a two-game skid.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Packers re-sign practice squad players

The Green Bay Packers will bring 12 of its practice squad players back into the fold for the 2025 season.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced on Monday that DL Deslin Alexandre, S Omar Brown, DL James Ester, CB Kamal Hadden, K Alex Hale, G Marquis Hayes, WR Julian Hicks, G/T Donovan Jennings, WR Cornelius Johnson, CB Kalen King, DL Jeremiah Martin and TE Messiah Swinson were signed to reserve/future contracts. All 12 players were on the team's practice squad this season.

The news came as the current team cleaned their lockers at Lambeau Field following their 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Packers' clock runs out in Philly

The Green Bay Packers will turn its attention to free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 22-10 in the NFC Wild Card Game on Sunday evening.

The Eagles pounced on Packers miscues early as they turned a Kesian Nixon fumble on the opening kickoff into a touchdown. The Eagles would go on to force the Packers into two interceptions and a missed field goal in the first half. The Packers' defense was a saving grace as the Eagles were only able to manage another field goal to send the game into halftime at 10-0.

The Packers managed to get on the scoreboard with a field goal only to see the Eagles answer with a touchdown to make it 16-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Josh Jacobs' rushing touchdown tightened things early in the fourth to give Packers fans a false sense of hope before the Eagles salted the game away with two long drives that ended with field goals.

Jordan Love played a forgettable game as he went 22-30 with 212 yards and three interceptions. Jacobs ended his day with 81 yards on 18 attempts and three catches for 40 yards. Tucker Kraft had five grabs for 26 yards, and Jayden Reed mustered 46 yards on four grabs to pace the Packers receiving corps.

Gamblers struggle on the road during weekend set

The momentum that started at the Resch Center on Friday did not not continue through the weekend as the Green Bay Gamblers managed just one win out of their three games over the last three days.

Friday's 5-3 win over the Chicago Steel saw the Gamblers start and end their game with two goals. Different Gamblers scored all five goals, with Elliott Gulley and Aidan Park registering multi-point games with a goal and an assist, while Reece Cordray matched them with two assists.

Things looked good when the Gamblers traveled south of the border to face the Steel again, with Niles Benson and Andrew O'Sullivan registering game-tying goals in the second period. However, it wasn't meant to be as Adam Valentini finished his hat trick in a four-goal third period that saw the Steel win the game 6-2.

Things didn't improve Sunday night in Michigan as Team USA downed the Gamblers 6-3. Will Zellers registered a first-period hat trick to lead the Gamblers to think they would get back into the win column. Team USA would go on to score three goals in the second period to tie the game and three more in the third period to put the contest away. Richard Gallant led Team USA with two goals and an assist.

Packers open playoffs in Philadelphia

The Green Bay Packers enter a new portion of their season on Sunday when they play the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Wild Card Round.

The Packers have sputtered in recent weeks, losing their final two games of the season following a stretch where they won five of their previous six. Sunday's disjointed 24-22 loss to the Chicago Bears game saw many of their regular offensive starters on the bench after Jordan Love suffered an elbow injury, prompting Malik Willis to enter the game in relief. The Packers' running game did shine in the finale, with the team gaining 183 yards on the ground.

The Eagles sat Saquon Barkley in their finale after he became just the ninth running back to surpass 2000 yards. Despite that and quarterback Jalen Hurts missing his second straight start due to concussion, the Eagles were able to win their ninth game in 10 tries against the New York Giants 20-13.

The two teams play at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 3:30 p.m.

Phoenix basketball streaks continue on the road

The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams continued to streak in opposite directions on Saturday.

In the early game, the Phoenix women nearly doubled their lead in the third quarter on their way to a 78-48 rout of Robert Morris.

In Milwaukee, the Phoenix men again fell short to the Panthers in a 70-59 defeat. Down by 12 at the break, the Phoenix got it to within five points late in the second half before the Panthers could salt the game away from the line. Marcus Hall and Yonatan Levy each scored 15 points, while Mac Wrecke added 13 points in the loss, the 13th in a row for the Phoenix.

Phoenix men look to right ship at Milwaukee

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team will need to break through its in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon to snap its dozen-game losing streak.

The Phoenix have struggled mightily since beating Western Illinois and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the season's opening weeks. In their last game, a second-half swoon buried the Phoenix men in Northern Kentucky, falling to the Norse 78-60. Down by just two at the break, the Norse outscored the Phoenix 34-16 down the stretch to extend the Phoenix's losing skid to 12. Marcus Hall paced the Phoenix with 19 points, Preston Ruedinger contributed 13 points, and Mac Wrecke chipped in eight points in the loss. The Panthers are looking at the Phoenix as their slump buster as well after recent losses to Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne. The two rivals meet at UWM Panther Arena at 3 p.m.

Prior to that, the Phoenix women's team will continue their road trip with a 1 p.m. tip against Robert Morris.

Big first quarter sends Phoenix women to victory over Penguins

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team used a 19-9 first quarter advantage to secure a 58-50 road win over Youngstown State on Thursday night.

The Phoenix never trailed in the game, going wire-to-wire thanks a 29-23 rebounding advantage and forcing 21 turnovers. Twelve made free throws in the fourth quarter kept the Penguins at bay and gave the Phoenix their fifth straight win. Natalie McNeal led the with 17 points while Callie Genke added 11 points. With two more three-pointers, Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schiltz moved into a tie with Lydia Bauer (2009-13) for eighth in program history in three-pointers made. Sophia Gregory (13 points) and Erica King (12 points) reached double-figures for the Penguins.

The Phoenix women are back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they play at Robert Morris.

Gamblers' busy stretch begins Friday against Steel

The first of three games in three days is Friday night at the Resch Center when the Green Bay Gamblers host the Chicago Steel.

Last weekend, the Gamblers scored 14 goals across two games in their sweep of the Madison Capitols. In their 7-4 win over the Capitols Friday night at the Resch Center, Will Zellers and William Samuelsson each had two goals to join Geno Carcone, Vasily Zelenov, Cooper Cleaves, and Aidan Park with multi-point games. In Saturday's 7-5 victory in Madison, Reece Cordray had two goals and two assists to pace the Gamblers. Three other players posted multi-point games.

The Steel is 13 points behind the Gamblers in the USHL Eastern Conference after dropping both games to Sioux Falls. The only team that has struggled more has been Team USA, which hosts the Gamblers on Sunday, though their focus has been more concentrated on the recent World Juniors Championships, which they won.

The Gamblers will play the Steel at the Resch Center on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before the series shifts to Geneva, Ill. on Saturday for a 6:05 p.m. puck drop.

Phoenix women open week at Youngstown State

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team kicks off its week on the road in Ohio on Thursday when they battle the Youngstown State Penguins.

The Phoenix extended their winning streak to four on Saturday with a 69-51 victory over Wright State at the Kress Events Center. Callie Genke posted a team-best 14 points, while Natalie McNeal and Cassie Schiltz chipped in 13. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, Jenna Guyer. Miah Meyer added eight points apiece, and Guyer just missed out on a double-double with 10 rebounds. Combined with her 15 points on five three-pointers against Northern Kentucky last Thursday, the Luxemburg-Casco alum Schiltz was tabbed the Horizon League Player of the Week.

The Penguins come into the game 7-8 overall, including 2-3 in the Horizon League. They have lost their last three Horizon League games after opening the campaign with wins against Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky.

Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Torn ACL ends Watson's season for Packers

The Green Bay Packers suffered two losses on Sunday, and Christian Watson's health status was revealed during Monday's press conferences.

Head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Watson tore his ACL during Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, ending his season. LaFleur also gave updates on some of his other players, saying that WR Romeo Doubs is feeling better, QBs Jordan Love and Malik Willis could be limited this week but otherwise okay, and he wants to be optimistic about the possible return of LB Quay Walker and S Evan Williams.

The Packers head to Philadelphia for its Wild Card Round matchup against the Eagles this weekend, with the kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Packers limp to playoffs after Bears dud

The second time was the charm for Chicago Bears kicker Cairo Santos, who erased multiple losing streaks, including an 11-game one against the host Green Bay Packers, with a game-winning field goal to win 24-22.

The game got off to an ominous start for the Green and Gold when the Bears once again successfully executed a trick punt return play, resulting in a 94-yard return to put them up 7-0. The Bears would make it 14-3 after they turned a fumble into points on a short field. The Packers would make it a one-point game at the break, thanks to Brandon McManus' second field goal and a Josh Jacobs touchdown run. Injuries to Christian Watson and Jordan Love turned the Packers offense into a turtle in its shell, relying on Malik Willis to engineer the comeback. After a scoreless third quarter, Caleb Williams' star started to shine first with a 32-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore. After the Packers would engineer two more scoring drives to take a slim one-point lead, he engineered another drive like he did against their rivals in November, only this time ending it with Santos drilling a 51-yarder to end their season on a happy note.

Willis and Jordan Love combined for 205 yards and no touchdown passes as they both injured their throwing arms in the game. Dontayvion Wicks led the battered wide receiver room with five catches for 48 yards.

A win would have been all for naught anyway, as the Washington Commanders engineered their own come-from-behind victory against the Dallas Cowboys to capture the sixth seed. The Packers will enter the playoff as the seventh seed with a date in Philadelphia to face the Eagles set for Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Packers CB Alexander out for season

Unless the Green Bay Packers make the Super Bowl, you have seen the last of CB Jaire Alexander this season.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shared the news during his media availability, saying that Alexander had surgery on Tuesday to relieve the stress and swelling on a PCL tear he suffered earlier this year. Alexander has not appeared in a game since he played 10-plus snaps against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in November. He has been in practice off and on since but never was able to suit up for a game.

Alexander was one of the seven players who did not practice on Wednesday as they prepared for their regular-season finale against the Bears. Zayne Anderson (concussion), Brenton Cox, Jr. (foot), Andre Dillard (concussion), Quay Walker (ankle), Christian Watson (knee), and Evan Williams (concussion) also did not practice. Six other players were listed on the injury report, five of which were limited. The Bears only had six players total on the injury list, five of which did not practice.

Report: Packers to play Steelers in Ireland

After being the last team in the NFL to play in an international game, reports out of Pittsburgh say the Green Bay Packers could play their third overall and their second in as many seasons during the 2025 campaign.

SB Nation's Acme Packing Company reported the possibility earlier this week, citing Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated as its sources. The Pittsburgh Steelers would act as the home team, and the Packers would serve as the away team. The Steelers have a connection with Ireland due to its former owner, Dan Rooney, serving as a past U.S. Ambassador to Ireland during the Obama administration.

The Packers have played in London (2022) and Brazil (2024).
