Green Bay opened the scoring early in the first period when Harris netted his first goal of the season at 4:45 off a feed from Tate Hafele. Youngstown answered later in the period to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.

After a scoreless second period, the Gamblers reclaimed the lead at 7:48 of the third on a power-play goal from Katz, his 23rd of the year, assisted by O’Sullivan and Carcone. The Phantoms responded midway through the period to even the score at 2-2 and eventually force overtime.

Neither team found the winner in the extra frame. In the shootout, Youngstown converted twice, while Carcone had the lone goal for Green Bay.

UW-Green Bay alum Tim Alexander nominated to Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame

Tim Alexander, an alum of the UW-Green Bay men’s soccer team, is set to be inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame on March 14, 2026.

Alexander has coached for the majority of his career, including coaching the Edgewood College men's program starting in 1990 and the women's program in 1993. In September of 2013, Alexander became just the 17th coach in NCAA history to reach 500 wins. Alexander led the women to over 300 victories and amassed 243 while head coach of the men's team in 25 seasons (1990-2014).

Alexander is the only soccer coach to win Lake Michigan Coach of the Year honors in the same year in both the men's and women's soccer ranks. Not only is he the only coach to accomplish this feat, but he also did it three times (1999, 1996, and 1994). In addition, Alexander was honored on the men's side in 1998 and four times on the women's side (1997, 1998, 2001, 2004), giving him a total of 11 LMC Coach of the Year awards.

Before coaching, Alexander was also a phenomenal player. His collegiate career began in 1974 at Edgewood University, where he was named to two First Team National Junior College All-American awards before transferring to UW-Green Bay. With the Phoenix, Alexander was a two-time All-Midwest defender and led the Phoenix to the final four of the NCAA DII soccer tournament in 1977.

Packers to season ticket holders: Use them or lose them

The Green Bay Packers are once again cracking down on season tickets holder who look perennially sell their tickets.

With a season ticket waiting list of over 150,000 people, the Packers premptively warned fans that sell all of their tickets rather than enjoying the games that they could receive a letter in the mail about their non-renewal.

"Our Season Ticket Holders are central to Lambeau Field's significant homefield advantage and gameday experience. We continue to emphasize the purpose of having season tickets, which is to attend games and contribute to that atmosphere," said Craig Benzel, Packers vice president of sales and business development. "Simply put: Packers Season Ticket Holders who purchase their tickets with the sole intent of reselling them should not be Packers Season Ticket Holders."

According to Packers.com, season Ticket Holders who repeatedly resell their season tickets, whether on the secondary market or through ticket brokers (directly or indirectly), may lose their option to renew their seats. The organization encourages fans to either go to the games or find other ways to ensure that their tickets go to other Packers fans.

Invoices are set to go out to season ticket holders next week.

Phoenix men slip in standings after loss to Titans

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team are on the wrong end of a multi-team tie for second place in the Horizon League after losing to Detroit-Mercy 74-70 on Sunday.

The two teams traded leads  all afternoon long with the Phoenix responding to an early deficit with a 6-0 run before the Titans responded with one of their own to enter the locker room with a slim 31-28 lead. The Titans stretched their lead before the Phoenix responded with a 7-0 run, but the lead was short-lived as Orlando Lovejoy converted on a three-point play and let his teammates finish the job at the free throw line.

The loss spoiled a strong outing by four Phoenix players that reached double figures led by Preston Ruedinger's 19 points and 17 points from Justin Allen and C.J. O'Hara.

The Phoenix return home to face Youngstown State on Saturday for the final home game of the regular season with a 1 p.m. tip-off.

Gamblers sweep Disney on Ice road trip

No miracles needed as the Green Bay Gamblers proved on Sunday that the cold never bothered them anyways, sweeping their annual Disney on Ice road trip with a 2-1 in over the Capitols in Madison on Sunday.

All the scoring took place in the second place with Landon Hafele and Zach Wooten sandwiching a Capitols goal with their own tallies to lead the Gamblers past their in-state rivals. Leo Henriquez was peppered with shots all afternoon, but earned the victory with 42 saves.

The Gamblers return to the Resch Center for five straight games, including a pair against Youngstown on Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (6:05 p.m.).

Phoenix men look to topple Titans

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team looks for the sweep through Michigan on Sunday when they meet Detroit-Mercy for a matinee.

Coming off a narrow loss, Green Bay earned a close road win on Friday, topping Oakland 73-68 to improve to 16-13 overall and 11-7 in the Horizon League.

Wilkins went 4-for-5 from 3-point range, scoring 12, while O’Hara and Allen combined for 37. The Phoenix shot 45.5% from the field and 86.7% from the free-throw line.

The Titans slipped past Milwaukee 91-86 on Friday in the front end of their weekend against Wisconsin teams.

Tip-off is set for noon.

Guyer drops career-high on Senior Day as Phoenix complete season sweep of Panthers

Guyer poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the Green Bay Phoenix to a dominant 91-57 win over the Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday at the Kress Center. With the win, Green Bay not only secured the outright Horizon League regular season title, but also completed the regular season sweep of Milwaukee.

Green Bay ripped off a 13-0 run to start the game and never looked back. The Phoenix led 24-12 after one quarter, doing most of their damage inside with 16 points in the paint.

Guyer set the tone early and stayed aggressive throughout, finishing 10-of-16 from the field and knocking down three triples in 31 minutes. She also grabbed six rebounds, tying for the team high.

Meghan Schultz added 18 points in just 21 minutes, and Carley Duffney chipped in 16 points and six rebounds as four Phoenix players reached double figures. Maddy Skorupski handed out 11 assists to go with 10 points for a less traditional double-double.

The Phoenix shot 58.1 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from deep while assisting on 27 of their made field goals. Meanwhile, the defense held Milwaukee to 36.1 percent shooting and limited the Panthers to just seven offensive rebounds and six second-chance points.

Green Bay went into the break up 49-26 and pushed the margin to 65-38 heading into the fourth. An 11-0 run late in the final quarter stretched the advantage to 89-50 before the reserves closed it out.

The Phoenix dominated the glass 40-27, recorded six steals, and scored a season-high 91 points in the win.

Green Bay will prepare to host IU Indianapolis on Wednesday night with two games remaining in the regular season. It's a 6 p.m. tip off for the 21-7 Phoenix.

Gamblers dominate Steel, surge into second place

One night after pouring in eight goals in Dubuque, Green Bay followed it up with another offensive explosion Saturday, dismantling the Chicago Steel 7-1 at Fox Valley Ice Arena to move into second place in the standings.

And they wasted absolutely no time taking control as Green Bay struck twice in just 41 seconds early in the first period. Bienstock opened the scoring at 6:10, finishing a setup from Samuelsson, and Tate Hafele made it 2-0 moments later off a feed from Martin.

Chicago got one back midway through the first, but Carcone restored the three-goal cushion at 17:00, sending Green Bay into the intermission up 4-1 despite being outshot in the period.

Rozsíval added his 19th goal late in the second period to extend the lead to 5-1, and the third period featured more finish.

While the offense continues to grab headlines, 15 goals in two nights, the discipline and special teams stood tall as well. Green Bay killed off all four Chicago power plays and even added a shorthanded goal in the opening frame.

In net, Slavick was sharp when called upon, stopping 21 of 22 shots. Chicago actually outshot Green Bay 22-18, but the Gamblers were clinical with their chances, turning limited opportunities into a seven-goal statement win.

With the victory, the Gamblers climb into second place as they continue one of their strongest stretches of this second half.

Gamblers erupt for eight in road win

The Green Bay Gamblers kept their offensive surge rolling Friday night, exploding for eight goals in an 8-4 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints at ImOn Arena.

After splitting last weekend and sweeping Lincoln, Green Bay carried that momentum into Dubuque in a game that quickly turned into a track meet.

Dubuque struck first when Fleece opened the scoring at 4:50 of the first period, but Green Bay answered quickly. Ryan Wooten continued his torrid stretch with his 24th goal of the season at 7:17, finishing a crisp sequence from Conboy and O’Sullivan.

The game shifted in the second period after it was tied 2-2. Green Bay scored three unanswered goals in the middle frame, beginning with McKinney at 2:42 off assists from Carcone and Bienstock.

Green Bay carried a 5-2 lead into the third period, where Wooten netted his second goal of the night — his 25th of the season — on the power play at 5:50 to push the lead to four. Dubuque scored twice in the period, but each time the Saints showed signs of life, Green Bay responded.

The Gamblers went 2-for-2 on the power play and killed all three Dubuque opportunities. Green Bay outshot the Saints 33-22 and controlled the pace for much of the final 40 minutes.

In net, Raul “Junior” Henriquez made 18 saves as Green Bay secured the road win.

The Gamblers will continue a three-game stretch with a matchup in Chicago on Saturday night.

Green Bay earns road win over Oakland

Coming off a narrow loss, Green Bay earned a close road win this time, topping Oakland 73-68 to improve to 16-13 overall and 11-7 in the Horizon League.

The last time the two teams matched up, Marcus Allen dropped 30-plus points, but Oakland came prepared Friday night, holding him to six. However, the Golden Grizzlies didn’t account for the trio of Justin Allen, C.J. O’Hara and Caden Wilkins.

Wilkins went 4-for-5 from 3-point range, scoring 12, while O’Hara and Allen combined for 37. The Phoenix shot 45.5% from the field and 86.7% from the free-throw line.

Oakland struggled from the field, shooting just 37% overall and 5-for-20 from 3-point range. The Golden Grizzlies did go a perfect 17-for-17 at the line to help keep the game close, but it wasn’t enough.

Isaac Garrett recorded a double-double for Oakland with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Continuing its road trip, UW-Green Bay will stop at Detroit Mercy on Sunday for a noon tipoff.

Phoenix women's basketball hosting Panthers

The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team is preparing to host the Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday at the Kress Center. Milwaukee is coming off a 59-56 loss to Northern Kentucky.

The Phoenix also fell to Northern Kentucky, 77-59. Meghan Schultz led Green Bay with 16 points, followed by Jenna Guyer and Maddy Skorupski with 10 points each.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.

Gamblers on the road for three straight games

The Green Bay Gamblers are preparing for a busy weekend. They travel Friday to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints in Iowa. On Saturday, they will take on the Chicago Steel, and Sunday, they head to Madison to face the Capitols.

The Gamblers enter the weekend fresh off a 5-0 shutout victory over the Lincoln Stars. Goals came from David Rozsíval, Zach Wooten, Leo Henriquez, Oliver McKinney, and Cruz Martin. Goaltender Leo Henriquez earned the win, recorded his first career Gordie Howe hat trick, and was named the USHL Goalie of the Week.

Faceoff for Friday and Saturday is at 7:05 p.m. Sunday’s faceoff is at 3:05 p.m.

Phoenix men's basketball on the road against Golden Grizzlies

The UW-Green Bay men’s basketball team heads to Michigan on Friday to take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The teams met earlier this season, with Oakland claiming an 88-63 victory.

The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a 93-69 loss to Robert Morris.

The Phoenix aim to bounce back from a narrow 75-72 loss to Milwaukee. Despite the defeat, Marcus Hall led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds, and an assist. Preston Ruedinger added 12 points, three rebounds, five assists, and a steal, while CJ O’Hara chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Green Bay's Gottlieb suspended for one game after postgame rant

Green Bay men's basketball coach Doug Gottlieb was suspended by the Horizon League on Wednesday for one game following his post-game tirade on Sunday that questioned the officiating after his team's close loss to Milwaukee.

The Horizon League said that Gottlieb violated the conference's operating regulations when he openly questioned the validity of two calls that he believed swung the game in favor of the Panthers, including a technical foul called against him. He accompanied his thoughts by swearing and pounding on the table.

Gottlieb and the Green Bay Phoenix Athletics Department disagreed, but accepted the punishment levied by the Horizon League. While Gottlieb apologized for his actions and expressed his appreciation for the work the officials, Athletic Director Josh Moon and Chancellor Michael Alexander believed the punishment went too far.

Assistant coach Kelly Rupp will have the reins when the Phoenix men travel to Michigan to face Oakland on Friday. Gottlieb will be back on the bench for the Phoenix when they play at Detroit-Mercy on Sunday.

Bisaccia steps down from roles with Packers

The Green Bay Packers will have to dip their toe back into the coaching pool after Rich

Bisaccia stepped down as assistant head coach/special teams coordinator.

The organization made the announcement Tuesday evening nearly 40 days after the Packers were eliminated by the Chicago Bears from the NFL Playoffs.

Bisaccia led the special teams unit since he was hired in 2022. According to Packers.com, he helped the Packers rank No. 7 in the league over that span in field-position margin (plus-1.2), including top-10 finishes in 2023 (No. 8, plus-2.1) and 2024 (No. 5, plus-2.7). Punter Daniel Whelan and KR Keisean Nixon thrived under Bisaccia's leadership, but high-profile gaffes pushed fans against him.

Head coach Matt LaFleur praised Bisaccia in his statement, saying that "Rich was a tremendous resource to me and our entire coaching staff who had a profound impact on our players and our culture throughout the building. We can't thank him enough for his contributions to our team over the last four years."

Bisaccia thanked the organization in his statement, but left the door open to return to coaching in the future.

Gamblers' Henriquez named USHL Goalie of the Week

Green Bay Gamblers goaltender Leo Henriquez was named last week’s USHL Goalie of the Week. In back-to-back games against the Lincoln Stars, Henriquez turned away 43 shots, earning his first two career USHL shutouts.

Henriquez didn’t just stop shots — he added one to the scoresheet himself. In the final minutes of the third period, he scored an empty-net goal to cap off a Gordie Howe hat trick.

The feat is extremely rare, especially for a goaltender. A Gordie Howe hat trick includes a goal, an assist, and a fight.

Recently, Henriquez committed to the University of New Hampshire, where he will continue his career at the Division I level following his time in Green Bay.

Rockers sign Yellow Jackets' Dee and Lewis

The Green Bay Rockers have signed Michael Dee and Coleman Lewis, both true freshmen from Georgia Tech.

Dee is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound shortstop from Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended St. Pius X Catholic High School. He earned 2024 All-Region 4 first-team honors and 2025 all-state recognition. Dee posted a .353 batting average with six home runs, 28 stolen bases, and a .982 fielding percentage. His 28 steals are the most in school history in a single season.

Lewis is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound outfielder from Valdosta, Georgia. He brings power from the left side of the plate and will reunite at Georgia Tech with former Lowndes High School teammate Caleb Daniel.

Phoenix men can't close out against Panthers

The Green Bay Phoenix saw two separate eight point leads disappear along with a win against its in-state rivals on Sunday, falling to Milwaukee 75-72.

The Phoenix led 31-25 at halftime and held onto a 59-51 advantage with 8:32 left before the Panthers took a firm grasp of the game. They outscored the Phoenix 24-13 over the final stretch, knocking down clutch free throw in the process. The free throw disparity drew the ire of head coach Doug Gottlieb as the Panthers were 30-37 from the line compared to 14-18 for the Phoenix.

The loss spoiled a career-high 32 points from Marcus Hall, who was complemented by  Preston Ruedinger's 12 points and C.J. O'Hara's 10 points. Chandler Jackson led the Panthers with 23 points, including a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

The Phoenix men are back in action on Friday when they play Oakland.

Phoenix drop second straight Horizon League matchup

UWGB women's basketball lost a second straight conference matchup, but this time it wasn't as close. Northern Kentucky kept Green Bay off their game again in the 77-59 loss.

A first quarter lead went in favor of the Phoenix, 20-12, and they shot 53% from the field including 2-5 from three.

From there, though, UWGB was outscored in the final three quarters tallying no more than 14 points in a single frame.

Despite a strong first quarter, Green Bay shot 36.7% and was outdone by the Norse in almost every category.

The Phoenix held a 41-40 lead early in the third, but were victims of two large offensive runs from the Norse that pulled the game from their hands.

Northern Kentucky was led by Taysha Rushton's 21 points meanwhile the best offensive performance for Green Bay came from Meghan Schultz 16 points on 7-12 shooting.

The good news, though, is Green Bay still won the Horizon League title outright despite the loss. They'll take on UW-Milwaukee Feb 21 in a game that aspires to be a bounce-back attempt.

Gamblers pour it on, complete weekend sweep of Stars

One night after getting back in the win column, the Green Bay Gamblers made an even louder statement Saturday at the Resch Center.

Green Bay rolled past the Lincoln Stars 5-0 in front of nearly 7,500 fans, securing the weekend sweep and back-to-back shutouts.

The Gamblers struck first late in the opening period when Lukas Rozsíval buried his 18th goal of the season off a setup from Conboy at 10:43, sending Green Bay into the first intermission ahead 1-0.

After a scoreless second period the Gamblers exploded in the third. Wooten pushed the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 11:01.

Green Bay then broke it open late. Goaltender Raul “Junior” Henriquez capped off his stellar weekend with his first career empty-net goal at 18:30 bringing the crowd to its feet. Goals from McKinney and Carson Martin followed in the final minute to seal the 5-0 win.

Next Friday, Green Bay travels to Dubuqe for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

Green Bay gets back on track with shutout win

The Green Bay Gamblers bounced back Friday night at the Resch Center, blanking the Lincoln Stars 2-0 in front of 3,597 fans.

Green Bay wasted no time getting on the board. Just 36 seconds into the opening period, Tate Hafele lit the lamp for his ninth goal of the season off a feed from Carson Martin, giving the Gamblers an early 1-0 edge.

That was all the support Raul Henriquez would need. The Green Bay netminder turned aside all 22 shots he faced, including 10 in the second period, to secure the shutout. Lincoln managed just four shots in the third as the Gamblers tightened things up defensively.

Green Bay iced it late when Knutson buried his eighth of the year into the empty net with 1:19 remaining, assisted by O’Sullivan.

The Gamblers outshot the Stars 28-22 and controlled the pace most of the night, limiting Lincoln to just one power play opportunity.

Phoenix women edged by Vikings

It required an extra period for the Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team to lose its first Horizon League game of the season Wednesday, falling to Cleveland State 83-82 in overtime.

After playing to an 18-18 draw in the first quarter, the Vikings outscored the Phoenix 16-12 in the second to take a four-point lead into the locker room. They extended that lead to nine points in the third quarter before the Phoenix went on a 12-0 run to grab a 44-41 advantage. The two teams played evenly the rest of regulation, requiring overtime to settle the score. As it has in recent games in Ohio, the Phoenix had a chance to win on its final possession, but its luck ran out when Jenna Guyer’s game-winning attempt rimmed out, giving the Vikings the win.

Maddy Skorupski paced the Phoenix with a season-high 25 points, while Kristina Ouimette added a career-high 18 and Jenna Guyer contributed 12. The Vikings had three players eclipse 20 points in the win, led by Colbi Maples’ 26.

The Phoenix head to Cleveland State on Wednesday before returning home for the Pink Zone game against Northern Kentucky on Valentine’s Day.

Second half struggles continue for Green Bay

The Green Bay Gamblers couldn’t slow Sioux Falls on the road Saturday night, falling 6-3 to the Stampede as second-half inconsistencies continued to surface.

Special teams set the tone early, with Sioux Falls striking twice on the power play in the opening period to grab a 2-0 lead. Green Bay responded in the second when Katz buried a power-play goal, assisted by Carcone and Wooten, but the Stampede answered again before the break to restore the two-goal cushion.

The Gamblers showed some push early in the third. Samuelsson and Sokol scored 51 seconds apart to briefly pull Green Bay within one and inject life into the game. That momentum was short-lived, as Sioux Falls regrouped and scored twice more, including an empty-netter late, to close it out.

Green Bay finished 1-for-4 on the power play while Sioux Falls capitalized twice with the man advantage. Henriquez faced heavy pressure in net, stopping 32 shots in the loss.

The Gamblers continue to search for consistency as the second half of the season rolls on, looking to clean up penalties and defensive lapses moving forward.

The Phoenix returned serve in the second quarter, outscoring the Colonials 26-11 to make it a two-point game at the break. The two teams exchanged blows the rest of the game with a 9-0 run pushing the Phoenix ahead only to see the Colonials comeback and take a 58-55 lead with under a minute to go. Peppler hit a three to tie the game before heroics followed a miss underneath by the Colonials.

Ruedinger's three sends Phoenix men home happy

A rollercoaster of emotions finally went the way of Green Bay with .5 seconds left in its 87-84 win over Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.

A 10-0 run in the first half gave the Phoenix a 31-18 advantage before the Norse were able to whittle it to just a four-point lead at the break. The Phoenix were able to stretch their lead out to double figures again in the second half only to see the Norse respond and take the lead with just over four minutes to go in the game. Board Approves Volleyball Electronic Seeding; Other Fall Sports Changes

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved the recommendations of the fall coaches’ advisory committees and discussed a wide range of topics at its February meeting.

Volleyball will move to electronic seeding for the Tournament Series beginning in 2026. The seeds will be determined by all match scores entered throughout the season into the WIAA Score Center. An initial electronic seeding report will be released the Monday of Week 15 on the WIAA calendar followed by a coaches’ appeal meeting. The official brackets will be released on Friday of Week 15. The seeding criteria will include a team’s own winning percentage, opponent’s winning percentage, opponents’ opponent winning percentage; and head-to-head results across all consecutive seeds.

Two other volleyball recommendations were approved impacting the Tournament Procedures. All sectional finals must be scheduled at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. or 7 p.m.  and Division 1 semifinals must be played at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. at the discretion of the host school. The WIAA will have final authority to determine locations, dates and start times. Another approved change declares the Molten Flistatec (red, white & blue) as the official ball of the boys State Tournament.

The Board approved several football recommended changes, effective in 2026. Two of these address forfeits and point values assessed in the Playoff Qualifying System (PQS). Schools are required to submit their football schedule to the WIAA office by May 1 prior to the season. Any nonconference game canceled after June 15th will be considered a forfeit for PQS points, and games canceled by non-mutual agreement would result in a forfeit. Any non-conference game dropped or canceled prior to June 15 would be considered a “no contest” when calculating the team's PQS score. In addition, if a team wins the replacement game of a forfeited game, the more favorable points outcome–whether that be the replacement game victory or the original forfeited game–will be applied if mathematically possible.

The Football Tournament Procedures were modified to use PQS seeding to determine jersey color and sideline assignments, with the higher seed wearing the home jersey color and using the home sideline throughout the Tournament Series. In addition, the #1 and #4 ranked top seed in the PQS rankings will be assigned into one State semifinal half of the bracket, and the #2 and #3 ranked teams seeded #1 in the PQS will be assigned to the opposite State semifinal half of the bracket.

Another approved football recommendation adds a note to the acclimatization policy stating any school program intending to participate in a summer team camp must follow acclimatization rules prior to participating in fully padded activities, either prior to the camp or at the camp.

Three cross country recommendations were approved by the Board. Billed hats, caps and visors will be added as permitted headgear, as well as allowing a 2 1/4-inch manufacturer’s logo on headwear beginning in 2026-27.  A second is a clarification that permits face and body paint, symbols and temporary tattoos to be displayed; however, full-face solid block color, or markings that are offensive or that distract from the integrity of the competition are prohibited. A third rule change will allow competitors to receive biometric data from watches or smart watches, including heart rate, GPS or pace. Athletes and coaches are not allowed to use GPS data to receive coaching while competing, contest the length of a course or review any decision made by a race official.

The Board approved the lone soccer coaches’ recommendation, adding language stating that the accumulation of yellow cards (three within the Tournament Series or two in the State semifinal game) does not affect a participant’s eligibility to attend or participate in the State championship awards ceremony.

A boys and girls tennis rule change will impact Tournament Procedures beginning in the 2026–27 season, with all players seeded at the subsectional level of the Tournament Series. In addition, the Board approved moving the first day girls may begin practice one day earlier in the fall–from Tuesday to Monday of Week 6 on the WIAA calendar.

In 2026–27, the boys’ and girls’ golf regulations will include two changes to the adaptations of USGA rules. The first allows a player, within USGA?limitations, to take a one-time free relief by placing the ball within one club-length of its original spot, not closer to the hole, in the “general area” that is cut to fairway height or less. The player may clean the ball when lifted and following normal procedures for placing it. The second adaptation change requires season scores to be entered into the tournament management software, which will use each team’s best six scores to determine divisional rankings for regional groupings. Lineup changes during the Tournament Series may be made until tee times are posted. A third golf coaches’ recommendation approved by the Board strikes language from the Season Regulations that required host managers to mark the starting time on a physical scorecard for each group.

Two of the three boys and girls swimming & diving changes impact the Tournament Procedures in the 2026-27 sports seasons. The first splits schools sponsoring the sport evenly between two divisions. The winner of each event at each sectional qualifies for the State Meet. In addition, the next 19 fastest individuals and relay teams across all sectionals combined, excluding sectional winners, also qualify. The other alteration to the Tournament Procedures changes language to mandate swimming sectionals to start no later than 1 p.m. The third modification affects the Season Regulations by allowing the use of backstroke ledges, and if used in competition, the host team must provide identical ledges for all lanes. It is also noted that swimmers are not required to use the ledges.

Four Officials Advisory Committee recommendations were approved by the Board, effective in 2026-27. Three of them add language to the Sports Officials Guide. One addresses conflict of interest guidelines, and another establishes social media best practices. The third requires all officials to watch the rules video and complete all exams  in each respective sport by the start of Tournament Series to be eligible to officiate in the tournament. Additionally for L1 officials, a score of 70 percent or better on the exams is also required in sports they are eligible to work the tournament. The final change eliminates the need to report the loss of the coaching box in basketball.

Other action by the Board included approvals of the procedural monthly general fund financial statements and payments, fall sports financial statements and the deferred liability fund statement. In addition, the Board requested to initiate a study that reassesses divisional placement regulations in basketball.

Topics of Board discussions included the membership’s ongoing transition to new athletic management systems, as well as staff reports on two prospective Constitutional amendments, the upcoming Advisory Council and Board of Control elections, and reviews of the work done by the Classification Committee and the Calendar &?Contact Committee.

Other agenda items for discussion included plans for the 2026 Annual Meeting in April, preparations for the 2026 Scholar Athlete program in May, promotion of the 50th Anniversary of the State Girls Basketball Tournament, the addition of a WIAA LinkedIn account, an update on the activities of the WIAA Foundation, and the continued efforts to recruit and retain licensed officials.

The Board also received liaison reports from Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, and Kyle LeMieux of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association. Additionally, Ginger Gerndt, president of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team, presented projects aligned with the group’s goals of the 2025-26 school year, including student-athlete well-being, respect for all, increasing participation opportunities and increasing leadership opportunities.

Phoenix men drop second straight at the Resch

An early deficit proved too much for the Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team to overcome in an 83-75 loss to Wright State at the Resch Center on Sunday.

It took nearly five minutes for the Phoenix to score their first field goal, and by then the Raiders had built a double-digit lead. Wright State’s advantage grew as large as 15 before Green Bay pulled within five.

Each Phoenix run was met with an answer from the Raiders, who took a 38-28 lead into halftime and went up by as many as 13 points in the second half.

An 8-0 run by the Phoenix cut the deficit to five, with a chance to make it a one-point game following a flagrant foul by Wright State. Instead, the Raiders responded with another surge, preventing the Phoenix from earning their first win at the Resch Center in more than a year.

C.J. O’Hara scored 21 points to lead Green Bay, while Marcus Hall added 18 and Preston Ruedinger contributed 14. Kellen Pickett paced Wright State with 21 points.

The Phoenix return to the Resch Center on Saturday to face Detroit Mercy, but first travel to Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.

Teddy Bear Toss night spoiled as Gamblers fall to Dubuque

A festive night at the Resch Center ended in disappointment as the Green Bay Gamblers fell 4-2 to the Dubuque Fighting Saints Saturday, despite a packed house of 7,893 fans for Teddy Bear Toss night.

The highlight of the evening came late in the first period when Cruz Martin scored his fourth of the season, sending thousands of teddy bears raining down onto the ice in one of the loudest moments of the year. The celebration tied the game at one after Dubuque struck first on the power play.

Green Bay briefly grabbed momentum early in the second when Andrew O’Sullivan finished a play set up by Carcone and Gulley, but Dubuque answered quickly and took control with a power-play goal just over a minute into the third. An empty-netter sealed it late.

The Gamblers were limited offensively after the opening frame and couldn’t capitalize on their power-play chances, while Dubuque finished 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
