Phoenix stay hot at home with win over Detroit Mercy

Green Bay men’s basketball took care of business Saturday afternoon at the Resch Center, knocking off Detroit Mercy 76-63 to keep pace in the Horizon League race. Now 9-6 in conference play, UWGB sneaks into third place.

The Phoenix never trailed and leaned on early balance offensively, with five players scoring in double figures. C.J. O’Hara led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two steals, while Caden Wilkins added 14 points. Marcus Hall chipped in 13, LeBron Thomas finished with 11, and Preston Ruedinger rounded things out with 10.

Green Bay set the tone early, using a 9-point first-half run to build separation and taking a 37–21 lead into halftime. Detroit Mercy made a push in the second half, trimming the deficit to four, but the Phoenix responded immediately with an 8-0 run to regain control.

Defense and effort on the glass made the difference. Green Bay held the Titans to 35.7 percent shooting, won the rebounding battle, and turned offensive boards into key second-chance points. The Phoenix also went 20-for-23 at the free throw line, closing the door late.

Green Bay returns home Thursday to face Purdue Fort Wayne before a road trip to Milwaukee.
