Gamblers dominate Steel, surge into second place

One night after pouring in eight goals in Dubuque, Green Bay followed it up with another offensive explosion Saturday, dismantling the Chicago Steel 7-1 at Fox Valley Ice Arena to move into second place in the standings.

And they wasted absolutely no time taking control as Green Bay struck twice in just 41 seconds early in the first period. Bienstock opened the scoring at 6:10, finishing a setup from Samuelsson, and Tate Hafele made it 2-0 moments later off a feed from Martin.

Chicago got one back midway through the first, but Carcone restored the three-goal cushion at 17:00, sending Green Bay into the intermission up 4-1 despite being outshot in the period.

Rozsíval added his 19th goal late in the second period to extend the lead to 5-1, and the third period featured more finish.

While the offense continues to grab headlines, 15 goals in two nights, the discipline and special teams stood tall as well. Green Bay killed off all four Chicago power plays and even added a shorthanded goal in the opening frame.

In net, Slavick was sharp when called upon, stopping 21 of 22 shots. Chicago actually outshot Green Bay 22-18, but the Gamblers were clinical with their chances, turning limited opportunities into a seven-goal statement win.

With the victory, the Gamblers climb into second place as they continue one of their strongest stretches of this second half.
