The Green Bay Gamblers picked up a point but came up short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday night at the Resch Center.
Green Bay opened the scoring early in the first period when Harris netted his first goal of the season at 4:45 off a feed from Tate Hafele. Youngstown answered later in the period to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.
After a scoreless second period, the Gamblers reclaimed the lead at 7:48 of the third on a power-play goal from Katz, his 23rd of the year, assisted by O’Sullivan and Carcone. The Phantoms responded midway through the period to even the score at 2-2 and eventually force overtime.
Neither team found the winner in the extra frame. In the shootout, Youngstown converted twice, while Carcone had the lone goal for Green Bay.
The Gamblers outshot the Phantoms 26-21 and finished 1-for-6 on the power play while killing off both of Youngstown’s chances. Henriquez stopped 18 shots in net.
Green Bay will face Youngstown again on Saturday, Feb. 28, in the second game of the weekend series.
