With the WIAA state tournament kicking off Thursday, local wrestlers are preparing to earn their chance at a championship.
Boys
Luxemburg-Casco will send No. 5 Joseph Jeanquart to face No. 12 Prince Za Cameron of West Allis Central, and No. 1 Carson Neubert, who will take on the winner of No. 9 Cole DuChateau of Arrowhead or No. 8 Landon Jacobs of Burlington.
Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol’s No. 1 Spencer Madsen will wrestle the winner of No. 9 Isaac Dunnom of Osceola or No. 8 Brody Seese of Pewaukee.
Southern Door’s No. 9 Lance Veeser will compete against No. 8 Tate Sonnentag of Marathon.
Kewaunee has three wrestlers competing: No. 11 Samuel Kraynik vs. No. 6 Griffin Wineski of Iowa-Grant/Highland, No. 14 Trevor Gauthier vs. No. 3 Emmett Collins of Mineral Point, and No. 4 Mitchell Boeder vs. No. 13 Dante Williams of Kenosha St. Joseph.
Girls
Kewaunee’s Arianna Niemojuski (10th seed) will face seventh-seeded Evelyn Fugate of Unity at 165 pounds. Luxemburg-Casco’s Kiley Georgel will begin competition in the 235-pound weight class as the No. 2 seed against No. 15 Isabella Wright of Turtle Lake/Clayton.
