Shoreland League: Algoma, Kewaunee battle to keep season alive

The battle line drawn for the Shoreland League playoffs is approximately 11 miles long as Kewaunee and Algoma get set to play each other at Perry Field.

The Chiefs punched their ticket to Thursday's game with a 6-5 win over Ashwaubenon. Cal Ihlenfeldt registered two hits and an RBI, while Brett Paulsen went 1-3 with two RBI. Paulsen earned the win on the mound with eight strikeouts while allowing two runs (2 ER) on four hits across six innings.

The Penguins posted four runs in the seventh inning to beat Two Rivers 8-5. Brady Kita went 3-5 while Jaden Dillar and Jack Peterson each tallied two hits in the win. Dillar and Matthew Malvitz each homered, combining to drive in four runs. Charlie Prokash earned the win, allowing three runs (0 ER) on two hits while striking out three.

The Penguins had the upper hand on the Chiefs during the regular season, winning 18-4 on June 13th and 10-3 on June 30th.

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

Rockers polish off Woodchucks

After trading runs with them early, a three-run fifth inning pushed the Green Bay Rockers past the Wausau Woodchucks 5-2 on Wednesday.

The game had just been tied at two when an error by the Woodchucks' second baseman led to a pair of runs and David Ballenilla capped off the rally with a run-scoring single.

Eli Selga led the way with a 3-4 night that included a homer while Brayden Buchanan went 2-2. Five relievers worked together to get the win with Ethan Alexander earning the decision.

Wisconsin's Late Rallies Fall Short Against Lake County

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were hoping that recent history would repeat itself on Wednesday night against the Lake County Captains at Neuroscience Group Field.  However, the Captains held on for a 3-1 victory as the Rattlers left the bases loaded in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Lake County (53-45 overall, 18-14 second half) scored in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead.  Alfonsin Rosario reached on a bloop single to start the frame.  Jaison Chourio singled with one out to put runners on the corners.  Chourio was running on a 2-1 pitch to Jose Devers, who hit a grounder to the left side of the infield.  Third baseman Juan Baez only had one play and took the out at first as Rosario scored for the 1-0 lead.

The Captains scored two more runs in the top of the fifth.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry allowed a walk and a double to the first two batters he faced in the inning.  DeBerry got a strikeout for the first out.  Then, Christian Knapczyk doubled to score both runners and give Lake County a 3-0 lead for the second night in a row.

The Rattlers (44-53, 10-22) came back with a pair of late rallies on Tuesday night to erase Lake County’s 3-0 lead for a 4-3 win.  On Wednesday night, they almost repeated the feat.

In the sixth, Wisconsin had two runners on base at the same time in an inning against Captain starter Josh Hartle.  Blake Burke hit a sinking line drive to center that looked sure to fall for a hit.  However, Chourio made a diving catch to rob Burke of the hit and the Rattlers of their first run.

Hartle left the game after the sixth inning in line for his eighth win of the season.  He walked one, hit one, allowed two hits, and struck out three.

Wisconsin made their fans perk up in the eighth inning against Jack Jasiak, one of the top closers in the Midwest League.  Jasiak walked back-to-back batters with one out in the frame.  Eduardo Garcia followed with a single to left to load the bases.  Jasiak walked Burke with the bases loaded to force in a run.  Then, he got the next two batters to pop out to keep Lake County in the lead.

The Rattlers almost pulled it off in the bottom of the ninth as the loaded the bases with one out against Jasiak again.  This time it was a walk and two singles.  Jasiak escaped again with a popup and a grounder to short to earn his twelfth save in thirteen tries this season.

DeBerry allowed three runs on five hits with five strikeouts over 5-2/3 innings.  Relievers Stiven Cruz, Anthony Flores, and Yerlin Rodriguez covered the final 3-1/2 innings without allowing a hit or a run.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Timber Rattlers have named Manuel Rodriguez (1-2, 1.76) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Matt Wilkinson (3-9, 5.03) is set to start for the Captains.

While the players had the day off, the Green Bay Packers front office kept busy on Wednesday.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced that the Packers signed LB Jared Bartlett and released S Kahzir Brown. According to Packers.com, Bartlett (6-2, 238) was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets after collegiate stops at West Virginia and Cincinnati.

The Packers return to the practice field on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Shoreland League: Algoma, Kewaunee advance in playoffs

Thanks to wins by Kewaunee and Algoma, the two local Shoreland League teams that were in action on Tuesday are now set for a collision course on Thursday.

In Kewaunee, the Chiefs took advantage of four Ashwaubenon errors and scored three important runs in the seventh inning to beat the Lookouts 6-5. Cal Ihlenfeldt registered two hits and an RBI, while Brett Paulsen went 1-3 with two RBI. Paulsen earned the win on the mound with eight strikeouts while allowing two runs (2 ER) on four hits across six innings.

In Algoma, the Guins posted four runs in the seventh inning to beat Two Rivers 8-5. The two teams traded runs early on in the game, leaving the game tied before the Guins rallied for their eventual winning runs. The Polar Bears tacked on a run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough to tip the scales in their favor.

The two teams will now face each other on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Algoma.

Rockers edged by Woodchucks

The Green Bay Rockers had a pair of five-run innings do them in a 10-9 loss to Wausau Tuesday night.

The Rockers saw a 3-0 lead disappear thanks to a five-run Woodchucks frame in the fourth innings. A two-run homer by Max Humphrey tied the game up in the fifth only to see the Woodchucks score another five runs to keep the advantage for the rest of the game.

Eli Selga posted three hits in the loss while David Ballenilla and Aidan Kuni registering two hits. Both of Kuni's hits were homers.

Rattlers Victorious in Return Home

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers returned home on Tuesday night to play their first game at Neuroscience Group Field since July 13.  The Rattlers gave the 5,573 fans in attendance plenty to cheer late in the game as they scored three runs in the seventh to tie the game, a run in the eighth to take the lead, and a nail-biting top of the ninth to survive for a 4-3 win over the Lake County Captains.

Robert Gasser made his second rehabilitation start for the Timber Rattlers.  He pitched two scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked none, struck out four, and hit 95 with a couple of fastballs.  Gasser needed 22 pitches (10 strikes) to work his scoreless frames.

Estaban González gave Lake County (52-45 overall, 17-14 second half) the lead with a long home run to right-center with one out in the top of the third inning against reliever Ryan Birchard.

Birchard walked the next two batters on eight pitches before getting the second out.  The, Ralphy Velazquez lined a double off the top of the wall in left to drive in two runs and the Captains were up 3-0.

From there Birchard held the line.  He did not allow a run and only one hit over his final 4-2/3 innings.

Wisconsin (44-52, 10-21) rallied in the seventh inning.  Yhoswar Garcia started the inning with a single and stole second.  A balk Sean Matson moved Garcia to third.  Eduardo Garcia cashed in the opportunity with an infield single.

Blake Burke continued the rally with a walk, his third of four on the night.  Hedbert Pérez was next, and he sent a grounder to the left side of the infield that looked like it was heading to left.  Third baseman Maick Collado made a diving stop and tried to get the force play at second.  However, the throw was wild.  Garcia scored and Burke wound up on third before the ball was retrieved.

Luiyin Alastre fell behind Matson 0-2 before he lined a single to left to drive in Burke with the tying run.

Birchard went back out for the top of the eighth and retired the first two batters he faced.  Jack Seppings was called in from the Wisconsin to get the final out of the eighth to set up the Rattlers offense.

Yhoswar Garcia started the rally again with a one-out walk against Josh Harlow.  He would steal second and third to give him 45 stolen bases on the season.  Garcia was still at third with two outs when it was Eduardo Garcia’s turn.

Eduardo lined a 3-2 pitch from Harlow down the line in left for an RBI double and a 4-3 lead.

Seppings went back out for the ninth and set down two of the first three batters he faced with a Jaison Chourio single as the first runner of the innings.

The Captains loaded the bases on a single by Nick Mitchell and a walk on a 3-2 pitch to Jacob Cozart to bring González to the plate with the game on the line.

Seppings closed out the game in style with a strikeout on a 1-2 pitch to give the Rattlers the win and earn his first Midwest League victory.

Eduardo Garcia was 3-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Jaron DeBerry (2-3, 5.51) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattler.  Lake County has named Josh Hartle (7-2, 2.95) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Shoreland League: Kewaunee welcomes Ashwaubenon

The Kewaunee Chiefs and the Ashwaubenon Lookouts hope to end their season on a high note when the two teams battle at Memorial Field on Tuesday.

The Chiefs are riding a two-game winning streak into the contest. It is a rematch of Sunday's contest that saw the Chiefs squeak past the Lookouts 8-7. The Lookouts gave the Chiefs a scare, scoring four of their seven runs in the final three innings of the game. Brett Paulsen (2x3, 2B, RBI), Joe Anderson (2x4, RBI), and Collin Spranger (2x5, RBI) led the Chiefs offensively while Jackson Walecka earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (2 ER) on four hits while striking out five.

Packers sign two new players

The Green Bay Packers added two new pieces to the roster over the weekend.

The organization announced on Saturday they claimed RB Israel Abanikanda off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers and signed CB Garnett Hollis Jr.  According to Packers.com, Hollis Jr. (6-0, 199) was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans on May 9, 2025. In college, he played at Northwestern University (2020-23) and West Virginia University (2024). Abanikanda (5-10, 217) is a third-year player out of the University of Pittsburgh who was originally selected by the New York Jets in the fifth round (No. 143 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Packers had their first padded practice of training camp on Monday and will practice again tomorrow before having an off day on Wednesday.

Door County League: Kolberg sweeps weekend

The Door County Baseball League ended its July slate of games with a bang on Sunday.

Kolberg completed a dominating weekend with a 12-0 win over West Jacksonport, 24 hours after beating Institute in a similar fashion, 10-0. Trevor Reinhardt, Nick LeCaptain, and Austin Dart all had two RBI games, with Reinhardt, Austen Rohe, Jack Peterson, Dart, and Charlie Neinas all collecting hits. Reinhardt earned the win on the mound, striking out seven while allowing the Ports' only hit across five innings. Derek Niedzwiecki registered the lone hit for the Ports.

A pair of four-run innings and seven Mets errors led Sister Bay to an 11-3 win on the road. The Bays outhit the Mets 17-7, with Chubs Laughlin, Stew Larsen, Griffin Cole, and Sawyer Johnson all registering three hits. Laughlin and Larsen had three RBI apiece. Sam Forkert went nine innings, allowing two runs (2 ER) on six hits while striking out six. Kody Kissinger and Tory Jandrin each had two hits, and Zach Marchant, Jandrin, and Mason Kovacs each had an RBI.

Washington Island beat Baileys Harbor 6-4 in the other DCL game on Sunday.

Shoreland League: Casco wins regular season title

The third time was the charm for the Casco A's, as they beat Algoma 8-3 on Sunday night to capture the Shoreland League's regular-season crown.

Collin Lacey kept the Guins down for most of the game with a three-run sixth inning, his lone blemish in a start where he went eight innings and struck out 17 batters. The A's had already done their work before that inning, scoring eight runs in the first five innings, including five in the fifth. In that inning, the A's took advantage of three walks, an error, and a Kyle Routhieaux single to take control of the game.

For the A's, Cole Bzdawka led the way with two RBI on a 1-3 evening while Trevor Reinhardt and Lacey also drove in runs. Jaden Dillar, Carson Leist, and Jack Peterson had the lone hits for the Guins, with Peterson posting the RBI.

Rockers nip Rafters

A day after being boatraced by the Rafters, the Green Bay Rockers earned the 1-0 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Sunday.

It was an offensive struggle all day long with just four hits between the two teams. The game's only run came in the 10th inning when Kasen Khansarinia scored on a passed ball after starting the frame on second base and advancing to third on a sacrifice fly.

David Ballenilla, Payton Mansfield, and Max Humphrey registered hits for the Rockers. Rockers pitchers combined to strike out 10 batters while allowing one double. Keaton Baird earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out four.

The Rockers have the day off on Monday.

Blizzard gets playoff date

The Green Bay Blizzard's playoff picture is clearer now after the Indoor Football League wrapped up its regular season over the weekend.

The Blizzard lost their season finale on the road in Jacksonville, 68-58, after seeing their halftime lead disappear. Max Meylor completed just 11 of his 21 pass attempts for 129 yards and three scores. Kymani Clarke and Meylor were more effective on the ground in the loss, combining for 158 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

The loss sent them to the number two seed in the playoffs, giving them the opportunity to host the Tulsa Oilers on August 3rd at 3 p.m.

Rattler Road Trip Ends With Loss

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are coming home after wrapping up their series with the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park on Sunday afternoon.  Unfortunately, the road finale was all Quad Cities as the home team scored five runs in the first inning and the visitors struggled offensively in the game.

The River Bandits (56-39 overall, 17-12 second half) scored five runs on five hits, a walk, and two errors by the Rattlers in the bottom of the first.

The inning started with Sam Kulasingam singling on the first pitch from Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia.  Kulasingam had a painful steal of second that helped set up the rest of the inning.  Garcia threw over to first base as Kulasingam moved early.  Blake Burke took the throw from Garcia and fired to second.  However, the ball hit Kulasingam in the back.

Erick Torres followed with an RBI double for a 1-0 lead.

Callan Moss added an RBI single through a drawn-in infield after a sacrifice bunt moved Torres to third base.

A bunt single by Derlin Figueroa and an RBI double by Carter Frederick scored another run and had runners on second and third with one out.

Trevor Werner added a fourth run on a sacrifice fly.

Garcia issued a walk to the next batter but looked to be out of the inning after striking out Canyon Brown, the ninth hitter of the frame.  However, the ball got away from catcher Blayberg Diaz.  Then, Diaz’s throw to first pulled Burke off the bag to allow Brown to reach.  To compound the error, no one was covering the plate and Frederick scored all the way from second for a 5-0 lead.

Wisconsin (43-52, 9-21) could do nothing against Mason Miller, the Bandits starting pitcher.  He faced the minimum through four scoreless, hitless innings.  The only batter to reach against Mason was Steward Berroa, who was hit by a pitch to open the fourth before being erased on a double play.

Meanwhile, the River Bandits were adding to their lead with two runs in the third against Patricio Aquino on an RBI double by Bryan Gonzalez and a run-scoring passed ball.  Werner hit a solo home run in the fifth inning against Jesús Broca for an 8-0 lead.

Wisconsin scored their run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Eduardo Garcia.

The Rattlers were held to three singles in the game.  Blake Burke, Daniel Guilarte, and Garcia had the hits for the Rattlers.

The main highlight for Wisconsin was left fielder Luiyin Alastre robbing a home run from Frederick in the fifth inning.  Frederick had doubled and tripled in his first two at bats but was denied the homer when Alastre timed his leap at the wall perfectly to make the catch.

The Timber Rattlers ended the series 2-4 at Quad Cities and their nine-game road trip through Iowa at 3-6.

Next up for the Timber Rattlers is the first game of a series with the Lake County Captains on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Robert Gasser is set to make another MLB rehabilitation appearance for the Timber Rattlers as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Final July Sunday set for DCBL

Two games down and three to go for the final Door County Baseball League Sunday of July.

OTHER WEEKEND RESULTS

Cup run ends for Glory women

The Green Bay Glory saw their U.S. Amateur Cup run end in the semifinals on Friday night, falling to Capital Pride in a shootout 0-0 (4-1).

The game was scoreless through 120 minutes of action before entering the shootout that went in favor of the Pride 4-1. Emily McCarthy registered the lone goal for the Glory.

Five-Run Second Inning Jump Starts Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-3 on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park in a rain-shortened game.  The Rattlers got some big two-out hits with runners in scoring position during a five-run second inning to give them the early lead and it was enough to get their second win of the series.

In the first four games of the series with the River Bandits, Wisconsin (43-51 overall, 9-20 second half) was 5-for-45 with runners in scoring position.  They went 4-for-6 with runners in scoring position, including 3-for-4 with runners in scoring position and two outs, in the top of the second inning on Saturday night to take a 5-0 lead.

Eduardo Garcia started the inning with a walk and stole second.  Hedbert Pérez followed with a long home run to right field.  Pérez has hit fourteen homers this season with the Rattlers.

Later in the inning, Luiyin Alastre was a second with two outs.  Andrick Nava ripped a double to left to knock in Alastre and start a streak of three straight run-scoring extra-base hits.  Steward Berroa followed with a triple and Jadher Areinamo was next with an RBI double for a 5-0 lead.

Quad Cities (55-39, 16-12) got to Wisconsin starting pitcher Tanner Gillis in the fifth inning.  Bryan Gonzalez tripled to open the inning and scored on a wild pitch that was also ball four to Nolan Sailors and that ended the night for Gillis.

Jeferson Figueroa took over on the mound for the Rattlers.  Sailors stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a ground out by Sam Kulasingam.

The Rattlers got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth inning.  Garcia drew a walk against reliever Dennis Colleran and moved up to third on two wild pitches.  Juan Diaz drove in Garcia with a sacrifice fly to center for at 6-2 lead.

The River Bandits scored a run and threatened for more in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Figueroa walked Chris Brito with one out and a runner at third.  Trevor Werner doubled to right-center to drive in one run and set up runners at second and third.  Figueroa escaped further damage with a strikeout and a grounder to short.

Aaron Rund pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh and was ready to go back out for the bottom of the eighth when the tarp was put on the field in advance of severe weather heading to the area.  The tarp was just in time to beat a heavy downpour and with the rain scheduled to last for deep into the night, the game was called after a thirty-minute delay.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.  Sam Garcia (1-5, 5.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Mason Miller (0-0, 0.00) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 1:00pm.

Homers doom Rockers vs. Rafters

Pitchers for the Green Bay Rockers struggled to keep the ball in the yard Saturday afternoon as they lost to Wisconsin Rapids 11-4.

The Rafters hit four homers on the afternoon, including two homers off the bat of Kerim Orucevic. That led to crooked numbers in four of the first five innings for the Rafters, including three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Rockers string together base hits to post a pair of two-run innings, but theyvwere outhit 14-6 on the day. Collin Helms and Eli Selga each had two hits in the loss.

The Rockers used six pitchers in the loss, with Evan Bogart the most effective as he walked four but struck out five in three shutout innings.

Indians pound Cubs

A 10-run outburst by Egg Harbor gave them more than enough to get past Institute in a 17-5 win.

In that inning, the Indians collected six hits and took advantage of multiple Cubs errors to pile up the runs. All told, the Indians outhit the Cubs 15-6 while the Cubs provided their opponents with extra outs due to six errors. The Cubs put up their own crooked number in the sixth inning, scoring all five of their runs.

The Indians received three-hit games from Anthony Jennerjohn and Brody Kollath and two-hit games from Brady Kita and Cole Frangpiane. Jennerjohn and Cory Fuller each drove in three runs.

The Cubs were paced by Jared Pflieger, who went 2-3 and an RBI. Robby Pollman, Pflieger, and Juston Williams all drove in one run.

Drew Price took the win on the mound, striking out nine across five innings. Williams took the loss, allowing 12 runs (5 ER) on 10 hits across 4.1 innings.

Seventh Inning is Fatal to Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers wasted some good scoring opportunities and a fine pitching performance by Manuel Rodriguez against the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Wisconsin carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see the River Bandits tie the game in the sixth and blow by them with five runs in the seventh inning on the way to a 6-2 final score.

The Rattlers (42-51 overall, 8-20 second half) grabbed the lead in the first inning as a pair of minor league rehabbers faced each other.  Luinder Avila, the starting pitcher for the River Bandits, walked Steward Berroa, the designated hitter for Wisconsin to open the game.  Jadher Areinamo followed with a single.  Berroa and Areinamo pulled a double steal to get into scoring position.  Then, Avila threw a wild pitch to allow Berroa to score for a 1-0 advantage.

That looked like it would be enough for Rodriguez.  The right-hander gave up a lead-off double to Sam Kulasingam in the first inning and retired the next eleven batters he faced before Callan Moss doubled with two outs in the fourth.  Rodriguez went 5-1/3 innings, walked none, allowed three hits, and struck out seven before turning the 1-0 lead over to the bullpen.

That lead could have been a little bigger had the Rattlers been able to cash in on a good opportunity in the top of the fifth inning against Quad Cities reliever Felix Arronde.  Berroa walked with one out.  Areinamo followed with another single for his 29th multi-hit game of the season.  Then, Arronde walked Eduardo Garcia to load the bases.  Blake Burke was next, and he hit a line drive up the middle.  However, shortstop Daniel Vazquez was positioned perfectly and easily caught the rocket.  Arronde got a final out on a flyout to center to keep his team within a run.

Quad Cities (55-38, 16-11) tied the game against reliever Stiven Cruz almost immediately after Rodriguez left the game in the sixth inning.  Cruz walked Blake Mitchell and gave up a double to Vazquez.  Moss knocked in Mitchell with the tying run on an RBI grounder.

The seventh inning was devastating to the Rattlers.  Cruz walked Carter Frederick to start the inning.  Trevor Werner hit a grounder to Garcia at short for what looked like a routine double play ball.  Garcia missed the ball for an error and, suddenly, the Bandits had runners at the corners with no outs.

Erick Torres stepped in with one out and lined a pitch to center that landed out of the reach of Yhoswar Garcia.  The ball rolled to the wall for a two-run triple and the River Bandits had their first lead of the game.

The Bandits tacked on three more runs in the inning on RBI singles by Kulasingam and Vazquez and an RBI double by Moss.  Three of the runs in the inning were unearned.

The Rattlers scrapped for one more run in the ninth.  Luiyin Alastre moved his hitting streak to seven games with a lead-off single, moved to second on a wild pitch, made third on a bloop single by Blayberg Diaz, and scored on another wild pitch.

The single by Diaz in the ninth was Wisconsin’s only hit with a runner in scoring position on Friday night.  The Rattlers were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the game.  Quad Cities went 4-for-15 in the game but were 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position in the decisive seventh inning.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Tanner Gillis (1-1, 2.30) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Drew Beam (4-7, 3.54) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 5:30pm.

The Cubs are playing their second game in as many nights after falling to Egg Harbor on Friday. They would love to keep things closer than they were on May 18th when the Braves scored at least three runs in the first four innings including 10 in the fourth of a 26-4 blowout.

It is the first of two consecutive games for the Cubs, who will travel to Kolberg on Saturday for 1:30 p.m. makeup.

Maplewood outlasted Egg Harbor in what proved to be a back-and-forth game that went in the Mets' favor when they scored two runs in the seventh to retake the lead. Cory Fuller and Cody Giesseman each had two hits  and Brody Kollath had a pair of RBI for the Indians in the loss.

Jeon, Rockers homer past Chinooks

A two home run night from Eric Jeon was more than enough to send the Green Bay Rockers to a 4-1 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks on Thursday night.

Jeon drove in all four runs on the night, hitting a solo shot in the third inning and the game-winning three-run homer in the ninth inning to send the Rockers. Offense was hard to come by otherwise, with the teams combining for just nine hits and Chinooks pushing across their lone run in the eighth inning.

Collin Helms and Jeon each had two hits, with Kasen Khansarinia collecting the other one. KJ Ward earned the win in relief after allowing the game-tying run. He walked two and struck out four in three innings of relief. Caden Watson nailed down the save.

The Rockers return home for a pair of games, hosting the Chinooks at 6:35 p.m. Friday before welcoming Wisconsin Rapids for the front end of a home-and-home on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.

River Bandits Pull Away From Rattlers

The Quad Cities River Bandits broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and pulled away from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with three runs in the bottom of the seventh on Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Quad Cities defeated the Rattlers 7-3 in the game to go up 2-1 through the first three games of the six-game series.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Robert Gasser made his first rehabilitation appearance on Thursday night as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  He walked Blake Mitchell with one out in the first.  Daniel Vazquez followed with a double to left-center.  The throw to the plate from Jadher Areinamo hit Mitchell and deflected to the Wisconsin dugout to allow Mitchell to score and Vazquez to take third base.  Callan Moss knocked in Vazquez with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (42-50 overall, 8-19 second half) came back with a run in the top of the second inning.  Juan Baez walked with two outs.  Then, Luiyin Alastre tripled to right to score Baez from third.

Quad Cities (54-38, 15-11) added a run in the bottom of the second against reliever Jaron DeBerry.  Bryan Gonzalez delivered a two-out, RBI single to get Carter Frederick home from second base.

The Rattlers tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings.  Areinamo doubled with one out in the third.  Then, he took advantage of the defensive alignment of the River Bandits with the left-handed Hedbert Pérez at the plate.   Derlin Figueroa, the third baseman for the Bandits, was playing well off the third base bag and Areinamo broke for third as the catcher returned the ball to pitcher Logan Martin after a pitch to Pérez.  Martin threw wildly as he tried to get the ball to Figueroa, who was also dashing for third.  The ball wound up in foul territory and Areinamo scored easily.

In the fourth, Alastre drove in his second run of the night.  He stepped in with runners at second and third with one out and knocked in Andrick Nava from third with an RBI grounder to tie the game.

Areinamo started the Wisconsin fifth by reaching base when he was hit by a pitch.  However, he would be stranded at third base when the inning ended.

The Bandits went back in front in their half of the fifth.  Sam Kulasingam and Mitchell started the inning with singles to put runners on the corners with no outs.  Vazquez hit a fly ball deep enough to center to score Kulasingam for the 4-3 lead and the second of three RBI on the night for Vazquez.

Wisconsin put their lead-off runner on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not get the tying run home.

Quad Cities put the game away in the bottom of the seventh.  Kulasingam tripled to open the frame.  Mitchell singled to drive him home and end DeBerry’s night.

Patricio Aquino relieved DeBerry and gave up an RBI double to Vazquez before he retired the next two batters.  Then, Chris Brito added one more insurance run for the Bandits with a two-out single for a 7-3 lead.

The Rattlers stranded seven runners and were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Thursday night.

Game four of the series is Friday Night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Manuel Rodriguez (1-2, 1.99) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The River Bandits have named Felix Arronde (3-5, 2.71) as their starter.  Game time is 6:30pm.

Wisconsin Holds On For 4-3 Ten-Inning Win over Bandits

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought themselves and their recent history in the state of Iowa before coming through with a 4-3, ten-inning victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Kay-Lan Nicasia cracked a two-run double in the top of the tenth to break a 2-2 tie and Yerlin Rodriguez held on in the tenth inning to finish off a game full of twists and turns.

The Timber Rattlers (42-49 overall, 8-18 second half) took the lead in the top of the second inning.  Luis Castillo, in his first game back with the Rattlers since he was injured in a game against the River Bandits on April 13, drew a lead-off walk.  Back-to-back grounders moved him around to third base.  Andrick Nava came through with a two-out single to score Castillo for the 1-0 lead.

Hedbert Pérez gave Wisconsin insurance in the top of the fifth with a solo home run, his thirteenth home run of the season.

Quad Cities (53-38, 14-11) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth against Ryan Birchard, the Rattlers starting pitcher.  Sam Kulasingam singled in a run.  Wisconsin went to the bullpen and brought in Anthony Flores.

Blake Mitchell was the first batter Flores faced.  Mitchell lifted a flyball to left that appeared to be deep enough to score the tying run.  However, Canyon Brown, the runner at third did not attempt to score.  Flores shut down the rally by getting Daniel Vazquez to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

In the bottom of the eighth inning against Aaron Rund, Vazquez reached on a weak ground ball up the third base line for a one-out single.  Rund struck out Callan Moss for the second out, but Vazquez got into scoring position by stealing second on strike three.  Derlin Figueroa singled to center a few pitches later to drive in Vazquez to tie the game 2-2.

The Rattlers held on by their fingernails in the bottom of the ninth inning to get the game to the tenth.  Rodriguez, the fourth Wisconsin pitcher of the night, walked Brown to start the ninth and threw a wild pitch to get him to second.  Erick Torres hit a hard grounder up the middle that was fielded by Baez for the out at first that moved Brown to third with the winning run.  Kulasingam reached on catcher’s interference and Blake Mitchell was walked intentionally to load the bases for Vazquez.

The first pitch from Rodriguez to Vazquez went to the backstop.  However, the ball rebounded to Nava behind the plate too quickly for Brown to try to score.  Rodriguez bounced back to strike out Vazquez.  He would get the final out of the ninth when Baez snagged a line drive up the middle off the bat of Moss, the league leader in RBI.

In the top of the tenth, Jadher Areinamo started the frame as the placed runner at second.  The River Bandits decided to walk Pérez intentionally.  Wisconsin had Daniel Guilarte enter to pinch run for Pérez.  Then, the game got back to the action with Eduardo Garcia in the box facing Jesus Rios.

Garcia hit a hard line drive deep to left that Carter Frederick caught near the wall.  Both Areinamo and Guilarte tagged after the catch to move into scoring position.  Rattlers manager Victor Estevez had another card to play with Castillo’s spot in the order due to hit and that card was Nicasia to pinch hit.

Nicasia didn’t wait.  He lined the first pitch from Rios to the wall in right for a two-run double and the Rattlers were up 4-2.

The bottom of the tenth was not easy for Rodriguez.  He threw a wild pitch to move Moss, the placed runner on second, to third.  Figueroa followed with an RBI single, and Wisconsin’s lead was down to one run.

Frederick was next and his line drive to left was dropped by Luiyin Alastre for an error that put the tying run on second and the winning run on first.

Rodriguez got the first out with a strikeout but walked Brown again, this time on four pitches to reload the bases and put the tying and winning runs in scoring position.

Torres got the first crack for Quad Cities and struck out on a check swing that brought howls of protest from the home dugout.  Rodriguez closed out the game by striking out Kulasingam.  Quad Cities ended the game 3-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

The Rattlers were 1-3 on the first four games of their current road trip with all three losses being of the walkoff variety.  They had lost twice in Cedar Rapids in ten innings over the weekend.  After Wednesday’s win, Wisconsin is 4-3 in extra innings.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Robert Gasser of the Milwaukee Brewers is scheduled to make a rehab start for the Timber Rattlers.  Logan Martin (8-4, 4.01) has been named as the starting pitcher for Quad Cities.

Luxemburg's Ravet captures top K/D Tournament prize

Congratulations again to Steve Ravet of Luxemburg for his first place catch — a 33.60-pound Chinook — in the 2025 K/D Salmon Tournament, the 13th heaviest in the K/D’s 43-year history.

With record participation of 3,967 men, women and youth anglers, this year's payout again surpassed $100,000 in cash and prizes! In addition to the many bonus prizes and the K/D cash listed here, there were 50 daily port prize packages and nine early-bird prizes awarded.

A year after 14 salmon larger than 30 pounds hit the scale, Ravet's fish was the only 30+. There was also a big drop in 25-pound-plus trophies. In 2024, 164 25+ were brought to tournament scales; this year, there were only 10. And 100th place a year ago was 25.85 pounds; this year, it was 20.39.

But no matter the size, the competition was wide open for everyone, and the payouts much larger in the top 30 than ever before.

Thank you to all who participated in any way; whether fishing, cheering on your favorite angler, or just following along on Facebook. We appreciate you! Next year’s 43rd annual ‘K/D’ is set for July 10-19, 2026.

Packers report $83.7 million operating profit

A ninth home game is being considered a major reason why the Green Bay Packers turned an $83.7 million operating profit in 2025.

The Packers, the NFL's lone publicly owned team, released their financial report on Wednesday ahead of Friday's stockholders meeting. According to Packers.com, the $83.7 million operating profit is an over 39 percent increase over last year. The increase is being considered an anomaly for the foreseeable future as the NFL plans to host more international games, which could eliminate the extra regular season home game in other seasons.

"It was a successful year for the organization," said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy. "The NFL's popularity and success continues to set the stage for our club to do well, which puts us in position to continue to invest in the team and the stadium."

Timber Rattlers Suffer a Heart-Breaking Loss in Quad Cities

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers suffered another walkoff loss in Iowa.  On Tuesday, the Quad Cities River Bandits scored two runs on five walks – one intentional – in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Rattlers 4-3.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia pitched five scoreless innings with five strikeouts.  He allowed three hits, walked one, and was in line for the win when his offense scored twice in the top of the sixth.

Hedbert Pérez walked and Luiyin Alastre followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs.  Yhoswar Garcia drove in Pérez with a high chopper to second with the infield in on the grass.  Second baseman Sam Kulasingam leapt to keep the ball from going into the outfield, but his only play was to first base and that allowed Pérez to score the first run of the game.

Blayberg Diaz followed with a double to left to score Alastre for a 2-0 lead.

Quad Cities (53-37 overall, 14-10 second half) tied the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Rattlers reliever Jesús Broca had entered the game in the sixth inning and retired the side in order.  He got the first two Bandits in the bottom of the seventh before he walked Derlin Figueroa on four pitches.  Carter Frederick lined a 3-2 pitch to left for a double.  Figueroa was running on the payoff pitch with two outs and scored easily.  Bryan Gonzalez was next.  He singled to left to score Fredrick with the tying run.

The Rattlers (41-49, 7-18) went back in front in the top of the eighth with the duo of Pérez and Alastre starting things on a walk and single.  Kay-Lan Nicasia grounded into a force play at second to leave runners at the corners with one out.  Garcia singled on a hit-and-run play as he punched the ball through a hole on the right side of the infield.  Pérez scored and Nicasia was at third.  The Rattlers still had runners at the corners with one out.  The next two batters struck out and Wisconsin could not add to their lead.

The River Bandits nearly tied the game in the eighth inning.  Broca got the first out with a strikeout.  Sam Kulasingam looked like the second out on a routine fly ball to right.  However, Alastre dropped the ball for an error.  A walk to Blake Mitchell ended Broca’s night.

Jeferson Figueroa took over for Broca and received an incredible diving catch from Garcia for the first out.  Daniel Vazquez hit a 2-2 pitch to foul territory in left field near the Quad Cities bullpen. Garcia dove for the ball after a long run and held on for the second out.  Then, Figueroa and Callan Moss, the Midwest League leader in RBI, embarked on a ten-pitch battle that included Moss fouling off five straight 1-2 pitches before Figueroa struck him out for the final out.

Jadher Areinamo doubled to start the top of the ninth, his third hit of the game.  He was still at second when the inning ended after two strikeouts and a popout.  Wisconsin stranded ten runners on base and went 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Figueroa went back out for the bottom of the ninth to try to close out the game.  He walked Trevor Werner to start the inning.  Werner was called safe at second on a close play for a stolen base.  Then, Jeferson Figueroa walked Darlin Figueroa to put the winning run on base with no outs.

The pitching Figueroa got a strikeout for the first out.  Then, the Bandits pulled a double steal with Gonzalez at the plate.  That forced the Rattlers to walk Gonzalez intentionally to load the bases.

Erick Torres popped out on a 3-2 pitch from Figueroa to get the Rattlers to within an out of a win.

The final out was tough to find.  Figueroa walked Kulasingam on four straight pitches to force in the tying run.  He got ahead of Mitchell 1-2 to give Wisconsin a chance of getting to extra innings.  Mitchell fouled off two 1-2 pitches, took two balls to run the count full, and took one more outside the zone for a walk to force in the winning run.

The Rattlers are 1-3 on their current road trip.  All three losses have been walkoff losses with 5-4, ten-inning losses at Cedar Rapids on July 18 and July 20 to go along with Tuesday’s loss.  The Rattlers have lost five game on walkoffs this season with all three in Iowa – three at Cedar Rapids and two at Quad Cities.

Game two of the series is set for Wednesday evening at Modern Woodmen Park.  Wisconsin has named Ryan Birchard (2-6, 4.32) as their starting pitcher.  The River Bandits have named Nicholas Regalado (2-1, 4.58) as their starter.  Game time is 6:30pm.

Casco, Algoma battle on Wednesday

After a crowded Monday night of games, two of the local Shoreland teams will face each other on Wednesday when Casco visits Algoma.

In Green Bay, a five-run fifth inning was more than enough for the A's to throttle Ashwaubenon 11-1 at Joannes Park on Monday. revor Reinhardt made himself at home on the basepaths, drawing three walks and collecting two hits, scoring four runs in the process. Cole Bzdawka also had two hits and drove in a pair while Blake Robillard drove in three runs without the benefit of a hit. Noah Lindsley earned the win, allowing one run (0 ER) on two hits while striking out nine.

In Algoma, the Guins let their matchup get away from them in the seventh inning, allowing five runs and trailing 3-0. They were limited to just three hits in the game, with Austin Dart getting one and Brady Kita collecting two. Carson Leist suffered the loss, surrendering six runs (5 ER) on four hits.

Rockers fall late to Mallards

The Madison Mallards scored five runs in the final two innings to beat the Green Bay Rockers 6-2 on Tuesday night.

The Rockers and Mallards traded runs early with Green Bay taking the lead in the seventh inning on a RBI single from Joe Mennella. The wheels fell off in the eighth inning when the Mallards tallied three runs, including a two-run homer by MJ Sweeney. The Mallards scored two more runs to put the game away.

Aidan Kuni registered two hits to pace the Rockers in the loss. Ethan Alexander took the loss, allowing the fatal three runs over his 1.2 innings of work.

Blizzard playoff tickets on sale

The Green Bay Blizzard released tickets for their second straight playoff appearance on Tuesday.

The organization announced the details for their home playoff game on August 3rd against an opponent to be TBD. The Blizzard had home field advantage last season during the playoffs, coming up one game short of the championship game.

The Blizzard boosted their resume last weekend when they beat the Massachusetts Pirates 56-27 at the Resch Center with Santa Claus in attendance. Trailing 10-7 after the first quarter, the Blizzard outscored the Pirates in the final three quarters, including 20-3 in the third quarter. Max Meylor was efficient behind center, going 13/16 for 183 yards and six touchdowns with an interception. Kymani Clarke scored touchdowns through the air and on the ground in the win, piling up 31 all-purpose yards. The game ended with an exclamation point as Kevin Ransom took an interception the other way for a 29-yard pick-six.

Tickets can be purchased online through the Resch Center. The Blizzard will play their regular season finale on the road Saturday night in Jacksonville, Fla.

Shoreland League round-up: Kewaunee, Casco earn wins

Local teams won two of the three games contested on Monday ahead of their regular season finale later this week.

In Green Bay, a five-run fifth inning was more than enough for Casco to throttle Ashwaubenon 11-1 at Joannes Park. Already up 2-0 at the time, Patrick Daniels' bases-clearing double provided the game's biggest blow. The A's tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth inning and two more in the ninth inning to earn the victory. Trevor Reinhardt made himself at home on the basepaths, drawing three walks and collecting two hits, scoring four runs in the process. Cole Bzdawka also had two hits and drove in a pair while Blake Robillard drove in three runs without the benefit of a hit. Noah Lindsley earned the win, allowing one run (0 ER) on two hits while striking out nine.

In Kewaunee, the Chiefs put up crooked numbers in three different innings to top Two Rivers 9-3. The Chiefs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning behind a Waylon Delain sacrifice fly, a Lincoln Barta single, and two bases-loaded walks. Barta went on to go 2-3 with two RBI while seven other Chiefs players registered one hit. Ethan Paplham and Brett Paulsen also had multi-RBI nights to lead the Chiefs to victory. Paulsen earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (3 ER) on three hits while striking out 13 across six innings.

Rockers snap skid with shutout

The Green Bay Rockers snapped their two-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Monday night.

Not only did they outhit the Rafters 8-6, they took advantage of five Rafters errors that led to four unearned runs. The Rockers only needed one big inning to do in the Rafters, scoring four runs in the second inning. The Rockers tacked on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win.

David Ballenilla went 3-5 with one RBI, while Kasen Khansarinia registered two hits and Max Humphrey drove in three runs.Gavin Brummund sparkled in his six innings of work, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four.

They will stick around town on Tuesday to play the Madison Mallards at 6:35 p.m.

REPORT: T Tom signs new contract with Packers

Less than 48 hours before the first practices take place outside of the Don Hutson Center, the Green Bay Packers have signed their man.

Multiple sources reported Monday evening that the Packers and T Zach Tom agreed to a four-year, $88M contract. That contract includes a $30.2M signing bonus, the highest ever paid to an offensive tackle.

The announcement was paired with less-than-encouraging news from ESPN's Rob Demovsky, who said that they will wait to see how C Elgton Jenkins settles into his new position before approaching him on his own new contract.

Packers announce roster, training camp schedule changes

The start of training camp is just a few days away, but that does not mean the Green Bay Packers front office is coasting into the first practice.

Last Friday, the Packers signed T Anthony Belton and released DL Nesta Jade Silvera and DL Cameron Young. The move gets the Packers closer to their 90-man roster limit and gets all of its draft picks in camp.

On Monday, the Packers released K Alex Hale after a stint on the practice squad through the league's international pathways program.

The organization also announced that July 29 and August 1 will now be public practices, canceling a practice set for July 30th. According to the Packers, all public training camp practices at Ray Nitschke Field are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.

Door County League round-up: Kolberg, Sister Bay cruise to victory

Sunday's slate of Door County Baseball League action had a little bit of everything in the penultimate weekend of July.

Woody Schartner hit two home runs and Riley Cordier slugged a grand slam as West Jacksonport jumped past Washington Island 7-3.

A pitching duel early turned into another loss for Institute as they fell to Sister Bay 6-1 on the road. Scoreless through four innings, the Bays scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to give them what proved to be enough to win the game. The Cubs finally tallied a run in the eighth inning when Nick Peterson drew a bases-loaded walk. Tom Sawyer went 2-4 with an RBI while Sawyer Johnson collected two RBI without the benefit of a hit to lead the Bays to victory.

Kolberg was able to keep pace in the DCL with an 11-1 win over Baileys Harbor.

Maplewood outlasted Egg Harbor in what proved to be a back-and-forth game that went in the Mets' favor when they scored two runs in the seventh to retake the lead. Nolan Wagner went 4-5 with two RBI for the Mets, while Kordell Draves went 1-3 with a triple and three RBI, and Will Jandrin went yard for his lone hit to drive in two runs. Cory Fuller and Cody Giesseman each had two hits  and Brody Kollath had a pair of RBI for the Indians in the loss.

Rally comes up short again for Rockers

For the second straight game, a three-run rally was not enough for the Green Bay Rockers to squeak out a win in front of its home fans, this time an 8-5 loss to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Sunday afternoon.

The Rockers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning only to have the Rafters take the lead in the fifth inning with a four-run frame and tack on insurance runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings before the Rockers could stage a comeback down 8-2. Joe Mennella's homer cleared the bases to make it 8-5 and Eli Selga's walk threatened to keep the rally going, but David Ballenilla's fly out ended the game.

The Rockers were limited to four hits in the game with Mennella collecting two of them.

Rattlers Fall in Ten at Cedar Rapids

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought back from an early 4-0 deficit to send Sunday’s game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels to extra innings at Veterans Memorial Stadium only to see the Kernels celebrate their second walkoff win of the series in a 5-4, ten-inning victory in the final meeting of the season between the rivals.

Both teams left the bases loaded early in the game.  The Kernels had the sacks full with one out in the bottom of the third inning.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Tanner Gillis kept the game scoreless with a force play at the plate and a foul popout.  The Rattlers loaded the bases in the top of the fourth against Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Jose Olivares on a lead-off single and a pair of two-out walks.  Olivares escaped on a popup.

Cedar Rapids (53-36 overall, 13-10 second half) got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Gillis gave up singles to the first three batters of the inning – Danny DeAndrade, Poncho Ruiz, and Kyle Hess – with the single by Hess knocking in DeAndrade.  The throw to the plate was late and also allowed Ruiz and Hess to both move into scoring position.  Jaime Ferrer followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ruiz and knock Gillis out of the game.

Reliever Stiven Cruz got the second out of the inning.  However, Luke Napleton was next, and he hit a two-out, two-run home run to right to give the Kernels a 4-0 lead.

Wisconsin (41-48, 7-17) rallied with a homer of their own in the top of the sixth inning.  Eduardo Garcia walked with one out against Cade Bragg.  Hedbert Pérez stepped into the box and crushed a two-run homer to right-center.  Pérez has hit twelve homers this season.

The Rattlers bullpen held the line after the fourth inning.  Cruz worked around a one-out single in the fifth.  Yerlin Rodriguez hit the lead-off batter in the sixth before a double play and a strikeout for a scoreless inning.

Jack Seppings had allowed a walk and a single with one out in the seventh when the runners pulled a successful double steal with Brandon Winokur at the plate.  Wisconsin walked Winokur intentionally to load the bases and Seppings got Danny De Andrade to ground into an inning ending double play.

In the eighth inning, Eduardo Garcia walked and stole second base to start the inning against reliever Jeremy Lee.  Garcia moved to third on a ground out and scored on an infield single by Andrick Nava.  Lee got the second out on a force play at second with Juan Baez beating out the potential double play at first base.  The Kernels elected to go to the bullpen and brought in Nick Trabacchi.

Trabacchi walked Tayden Hall to move Baez to second base.  Then, Luiyin Alastre lined an 0-2 pitch to left for a single to score Baez with the tying run.

Patricio Aquino, the fifth Wisconsin pitcher of the game, kept the score tied with two perfect innings and three strikeouts to send the game to extra innings.

Daniel Guilarte pinch-ran for Pérez as the placed runner at second base in the top of the tenth with Hunter Hoopes on the mound for the Kernels.  Hoopes got a strikeout for the first out with a grounder to second moving Guilarte to third.  Yhoswar Garcia, who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the eighth inning, faced Hoopes and sent a slow grounder up the middle.  Winokur ranged over from short and fielded the ball cleanly.  However, his throw to first pulled Ferrer off the base.  Ferrer appeared to get the tag on Garcia before he got to the base, but base umpire Caleb George called Garcia safe.  There was a brief conference with plate umpire Theo Arndt and the call was overturned with Garcia called out and the score still tied.

The bottom of the tenth for the Kernels started with Kyle DeBarge, the Midwest League leader in stolen bases, at second base as the placed runner.  Bayden Root struck out Caden Kendle for the first out, but DeBarge was running on the pitch and just beat the throw to third from Nava.  That stolen base by DeBarge was his 49th of the season and set the stage for Winokur.

Winokur hit a sinking line drive to left and it fell in for an RBI single to give the Kernels the win.

Hoopes was also the winning pitcher for the Kernels on Friday night in their 5-4, ten-inning win over the Rattlers.  Wisconsin has suffered three of their four walkoff losses this season at the hands of Cedar Rapids.

The Rattlers dropped two out of the three games in the series with the Kernels but ended the season series even with the first half West Division Champions.  Wisconsin went 9-9 in eighteen games against the Kernels in 2025.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with a game against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa.  Sam Garcia (1-5, 6.10) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Mason Miller (0-0, 0.00) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:30pm.

Four games scheduled for DCBL Sunday

Four games are on the schedule for Sunday as the Door County Baseball League inches closer to the final month of the season.

Games include Institute visiting Sister Bay, Baileys Harbor welcoming Kolberg, Washington Island traveling to West Jacksonport, and Maplewood hosting Egg Harbor.

The first pitch for all four games is 1:30 p.m.

Wisconsin Wins Big in Cedar Rapids

A trio of Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitchers combined on a two-hit, 10-0 shutout of the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The offense did their part with three homers – two by Tayden Hall and one by Jadher Areinamo – to power them to the victory.

Wisconsin (41-47 overall, 7-16) grabbed control of the game with five runs in the second inning.

Hall started the rally with a one-out, solo home run.

Kay-Lan Nicasia restarted things by drawing a walk and stealing second.  Daniel Guilarte singled to knock in Nicasia for a 2-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Alejandro Hidalgo looked like he had a double play ball off the bat of Jadher Areinamo, but a missed catch at second allowed Guilarte to take third base as the ball trickled into center field.  Guilarte would score on a wild pitch before Blake Burke cashed in Areinamo with an RBI single for 4-0 lead.  Andrick Nava, in his Timber Rattlers debut, capped the inning with an RBI single.

The Rattlers added to their lead with two runs in the top of the fifth.  Burke knocked Hidalgo out of the game with another RBI single, his third hit of the game.  Yhoswar Garcia made it 7-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Manuel Rodriguez, the starting pitcher for the Rattlers, allowed one hit over five scoreless innings.  He walked two and struck out three to put himself in line for the win.

Hall struck again in the seventh inning with another long, solo home run to right.

In the eighth, Areinamo launched a home run to left after Guilarte had walked to open the frame to put the Rattlers up 10-0.  The two-run shot was Areinamo’s eleventh home run of the season.  He is 6-for-10 with two homers and four RBI in the first two games of the series with the Kernels.  He was 2-for-5 on Saturday night to give him 101 hits on the season.  Areinamo has 231 hits in 204 games as a Timber Rattler.

Two Wisconsin relievers sealed the win by combining for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.  Anthony Flores struck out three over two perfect innings.  Aaron Rund hit a batter with two outs in the eighth, but Luiyin Alastre made a great catch at the wall in the left-center for the final out.

Cedar Rapids (52-36, 12-10) got a lead-off single in the ninth, their first hit since the second inning from Kyle DeBarge.  Rund closed out the game with a 6-4-3 double play and a grounder to third for Wisconsin’s seventh shutout of the season.

Saturday was the first time Wisconsin has hit more than two home runs in a game this season.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon.  Tanner Gillis (1-1, 1.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Jose Olivares (4-3, 4.36) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 1:05pm.

Dock Spiders avenge loss to Rockers

The Green Bay Rockers fell short against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 5-3 to see their winning streak come to an end.

The Rockers were down 5-0 when they finally rallied for three runs in the eighth inning. JP Peltier homered and two other Rockers drove in runs in the frame, but the threat ended with the bases loaded.

David Ballenilla, Max Humphrey and Brayden Buchanan all had two hits as the Rockers outhit the Dock Spiders 10-9.

Glory men shuck DeKalb County United

The Green Bay Glory came up with a big two points on the road on Saturday, beating DeKalb County 3-2.

Dennis Nyame registered a brace before Dominic Lagona drilled the game winner for the road victory.

Shoreland League: A's shutout Chiefs

The Casco A's extended their winning streak to five games after shutting out the Kewaunee Chiefs 8-0.

Scoreless through three innings, a four-run rally by the A's capped by a two-run double from Colin Lacey proved to be all they would need. The A's would add two insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away.

Lacey went 3-4 with two RBI while Mitch Jandrin drove in three runs. Cal Ihlenfeldt and Alex Rohr collected the lone hits for the Chiefs.

Rockers smush Dock Spiders

Two runs in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference in a 5-3 Green Bay Rockers win over the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Friday.

The Rockers boasted a 3-0 lead before letting it slip in the sixth inning when the Dock Spiders plated three runs. Eric Jeon and Stefan Di Corrado drove in the eventual winning runs for the Rockers as seven of the nine players registered at least one hit in the game.

Glory men head south of the border for Saturday match

The Green Bay Glory travel south of the Cheddar Curtain to take on DeKalb County United for a 5 p.m. kickoff.

The Glory men are coming off a 3-2 win over AFC Roscoe in their last match on July 12th. They currently sit in fifth place in Heartland Division 1, just above DeKalb County. They are two points clear of possible relegation, but a loss would flip spots with DeKalb County.

Kickoff is 5:30 p.m.

Rattlers Drop Ten-Inning Decision at Cedar Rapids

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers staged a late comeback a Veterans Memorial Stadium to send Friday’s game with the Cedar Rapids Kernels to extra innings.  However, the red-hot Kernels held off the charging Rattlers in the top of the tenth before scoring a run in the bottom of the tenth for a 5-4 victory.

Cedar Rapids (52-35 overall, 12-9 second half) loaded the bases in the second inning against Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard on a single, a hit batsman, and a walk.  Birchard got the first out on a strikeout.  Caden Kendle scored the first run of the game with a bloop single to center.  Birchard, still working with the bases loaded, got the second out on another strikeout.  However, a single by Kyle DeBarge scored the second run of the frame.  Wisconsin escaped further damage in the inning when shortstop Jadher Areinamo made a diving stop of the ball in short left and the runner from second base rounded third too far.  Areinamo threw the ball to third and the runner was caught between third and home for the final out.

Luiyin Alastre started the Wisconsin third inning with a single.  Daniel Guilarte followed with a double.  Then, Areinamo singled sharply to right to score Alastre.  The throw in from right missed the cutoff man and rolled all the way to the Wisconsin on deck circle by the third base dugout with no one backing up the play.  Guilarte alertly raced for home and scored the tying run.

The Kernels went back in front in the bottom of the fourth against reliever Jaron DeBerry.  Jaime Ferrer doubled to left as the lead-off batter in the inning.  Kyle Hess singled to right to drive in Ferrer and took second on the throw to the plate.  A single to center by Andy Lugo put runners at the corners.  Kendle cashed in Ferrer with a sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead.

Areinamo (40-47, 6-16) pulled the Rattlers back to within a run in the top of the eighth with a lead-off home run against Eston Stull.  The homer was his tenth of the season.

In the top of the ninth, Yhoswar Garcia drew a lead-off walk, stole second, and went to third on a single by Alastre.  Guilarte tied the game with a sacrifice fly to deep right.  Areinamo was next and he singled for his fourth hit of the night to move Alastre to second with the go-ahead run.  However, both runners were left stranded.

In the tenth inning, Wisconsin had runners at the corners after a one-out infield single by Juan Baez moved Eduardo Garcia, the runner placed at second to start the inning, to third.  Both runners were left stranded.  Wisconsin left ten runners on base and went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position in the game.

The Kernels started the tenth inning with Danny DeAndrade at second base.  He moved up on a wild pitch by reliever Yerlin Rodriguez to put the winning run at third with no outs.  Rodriguez got the first out on a tough grounder to short that Areinamo was able to stick with, look the runner back at third, and throw to first.

Rodriguez appeared to get strike two on a foul ball into the stands off the bat of Ferrer.  However, catcher’s interference was called on Blayberg Diaz to allow Ferrer to take first base.  He would take second without a play with the infield playing in on the grass and Hess at the plate.

Hess worked the count full before bouncing a single back up the middle to score DeAndrade with the winning run for the Kernels seventh consecutive win.

Areinamo had his team-leading 26th multi-hit game of the season on Friday night.  He also moved his league-leading total of hits to 99 for the season.

Friday was only the third time Wisconsin has suffered a walkoff loss this season.  The last time they lost on a walkoff was April 22 against the Kernels in Cedar Rapids.

Game two of the weekend series at Veterans Memorial Stadium is scheduled for Saturday night.  Manuel Rodriguez (0-2, 2.27) has been named as the starting pitcher for the Rattlers.  Cedar Rapids plans to go with Alejandro Hidalgo (0-2, 5.37).  Game time is 6:35pm.

American Legion: Ahnapee walk off Bonduel

Jack Schwader had the final say in a 5-4 Ahnapee Trailblazers win over Bonduel on Thursday.

Schwader's heroics were part of a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning after Bonduel jumped out to 3-0 and 4-1 leads in the game. The Trailblazers registered four hits in the decisive inning, with Jacob Massey's double clearing the bases before he came around to score two batters later.

Massey came away with four of the five RBI in the win, while he, Steven Prescott, Siggy Hansen, Schwader, Jonah Dahms, and Jack Higgenbathem all posted hits. He also earned the win on the mound, striking out seven while allowing three runs (1 ER) on four hits.

Shoreland League: A's edge Devilbears, face Chiefs Friday

Casco got another strong pitching performance on Thursday night to improve to 7-2 on the season with a 3-2 win over Denmark.

Noah Lindsley went the distance for the A's with a two-run eighth inning the lone blemish on his night. He allowed two runs (1 ER) on eight hits while striking out 15 and walking no one. The A's had built up a 3-0 lead up until that point, scoring twice in the fifth inning on an error and a sacrifice fly and once more in the sixth courtesy of a Patrick Daniels RBI single.

Daniels paced the A's with a 3-3, one RBI night. Trevor Reinhardt and Colin Lacey also had two-hit nights for the A's in the win.

The A's are back in action against Kewaunee on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Chiefs are trying to snap a five-game losing streak that was kicked off by a 1-0 loss to the A's.

Rockers pitchers falter in All-Star game

In a game that lacked a lot of offense, Green Bay Rockers pitchers did just enough to keep things close, but not enough to help the Great Lakes Division win Wednesday's All-Star Game held in Madison.

Pitchers Maddox Long, Alex LePage, and Koshiro Ohno all pitched one inning, with Long starting things off with a scoreless first inning. LePage and Ohno each gave up one hit and one run, with the latter being charged with the loss after he gave up the go-ahead run on a home run slugged by the Duluth Huskies' Michael Smith.

The Rockers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Fond du Lac to face the Dock Spiders.

Ahnapee outlasts Bay Port Junior Legion

Ahnapee and Bay Port piled up the runs, but the Trailblazers pushed ahead in the end, winning 16-13 Monday night.

The Pirates were up 6-0 before the Trailblazers pieced together a seven-run rally with a Justin Massey double and a Steven Prescott single in the third inning's biggest blows. After relinquishing the lead in the bottom of the third inning, the Trailblazers added another seven runs on the scoreboard with a Jonah Dahms double the key hit in the rally. It proved to be an important frame as the Pirates outscored the Trailblazers 4-2 from that point on, but it was not enough to overtake them.

Prescott went 3-6 with two RBI while Massey and Dahms each had two hits. Dahms, Ethan Kratcha, Massey, Prescott, and Jack Jeanquart all had multi-RBI games.

After splitting their first two matchups, the Green Bay Blizzard captured the win on the road against the Quad City Steamwheelers on Saturday night.

The Blizzard outscored the Steamwheelers 16-3 in the first quarter, a stat that proved to be important for the team to hold onto the victory as they were outscored in the second and fourth quarters.

Max Meylor threw for 200 yards and four scores to go along with his 74 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to lead the Blizzard to victory. Four different receivers caught touchdowns for the Blizzard, led by TJ Davis who had five grabs for 88 yards.

Braves outlast Islanders

Kolberg rallied for eight runs in their final two innings to stun Washington Island at home 9-7.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but saw their northern rivals respond with a five-run second inning, led by three consecutive run-scoring hits by Luke Geiger, Ben Geiger, and Ray McDonald. The Islanders scored two more runs in the third before both offenses laid silent for the next three innings. The Braves chipped away at the lead with three runs in the seventh before laying five on the scoreboard in the eighth inning, capped off by a go-ahead homer by Austin Dart that was preceded by Jack Peterson scoring on a wild pitch.

Peterson ended his day going 1-3 with three RBI while Nick LeCaptain and Dart each had two-hit, two RBI games. Trevor Reinhardt went 3-5 and a RBI for the Braves to go along with his win on the mound as he pitched seven innings in relief. For the Islanders, the Geigers went a combined 4-10 with four RBI wheil McDonald went 2-4 and a RBI.

Bays walk past Indians

Baserunners were a plenty in Sunday's Egg Harbor/Sister Bay matchup, but it was the Bays that cashed in for an 11-4 victory.

The two teams combined for 20 hits and 19 walks in the game. The Bays' Spencer Krause cashed in the most, going 2-4 with four RBI. Chubs Laughlin and Stew Larsen also chipped in with two RBI while Casey Weddig joined Krause and Larsen with a multi-hit game. For the Indians, Cody Giesseman led the way with two hits while Brady Kita, Riley Spetz, Cory Fuller, and Brody Kollath all had RBI.

Late Comeback Falls Short for Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were down by a run with a runner at third and no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon against the South Bend Cubs at Neuroscience Group Field.  The runner was left stranded, and Wisconsin dropped a 5-4 decision to the Cubs.

South Bend (34-53 overall, 11-10 second half) took the lead in the top of the second inning.  Carter Trice doubled and stole third with one out.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia had his glove knocked off by a line drive off the bat of Reggie Preciado.  The ball trickled behind the mound and the only play was an out at first as Trice scored.

Wisconsin (40-46, 6-15) rallied in the bottom of the second.  Juan Baez singled and Kay-Lan Nicasia walked.  Yhoswar Garcia bunted them into scoring position.  An infield single by Blayberg Diaz drove in Baez.  Daniel Guilarte had a sacrifice fly to score Nicasia for a 2-1 lead.

The Cubs rallied in the top of the fourth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached on a single, a walk, and a single to load the bases against reliever Jack Seppings.  Miguel Useche tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field.  The throw in from Nicasia got away from Blake Burke for an error to put runners on second and third with one out.

The Rattlers brought the infield in to get an out at the plate.  Jefferson Rojas spoiled the strategy with a single through the infield to score two runs to give the Cubs a 4-2 lead.

Eduardo Garcia gave the Rattlers a little hope with a two-out, solo home run to left in the bottom of the fifth.  Garcia’s thirteenth home run of the season was his third hit of the game, left him a triple shy of the cycle, and pulled the Rattlers to within a run.

The game stayed at 4-3 until the eighth when Preciado doubled home a run in the top of the frame to give South Bend an insurance run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Blake Burke singled to start the frame for his 25th multi-hit game of the season.  However, he was erased on a 5-4-3 double play.  Hedbert Pérez restarted the rally with a double, and Juan Baez cashed him in with a two-out single to bring the Rattlers back to within a run.

Wisconsin gave the fans something to cheer in the bottom of the ninth.  Yhoswar Garcia singled, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error to put the tying run 90 feet from home plate with no outs.  Cubs reliever Grayson Moore denied the Rattlers a storybook finish by striking out the next two batters and ending the game on a ground out to first.

South Bend was 6-for-6 with stolen base attempts on Sunday afternoon.  They won five of the six games of the series.

The Timber Rattlers are off for the Major League All-Star Break through Thursday.  Wisconsin returns to action on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Midwest League’s first half West Division Champions.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Rockers enter All-Star break with win

The Green Bay Rockers enter the All-Star break with a 10-5 second-half record after beating the Lakeshore Chinooks  9-4.

The Chinooks jumped out to 4-0 lead before the momentum swung in favor of the Rockers with a six-run fifth inning. The rally was highlighted by a grand slam slugged by Joe Mennella. A two-run single by Caleb Daniel led the way for a three-run eighth inning to put the game well out of reach in favor of the Rockers.

Daniel, JP Peltier, and Mennella all had two hits as the Rockers outhit the Chinooks 10-3 despite committing three errors. Evan Bogart earned the win in relief, allowing no runs on one hit across the final five innings.

Door County League set for two games

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Rattlers Bite Back with Late Homers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers watched the South Bend Cubs hit ten home runs and win the first four games of this week’s six-game series at Neuroscience Group Field.  Rattler hitters Hedbert Pérez and Kay-Lan Nicasia let the Cubs know how that felt as they both homered in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and propel Wisconsin to a 3-2 win on Saturday night.

Tanner Gillis was the Wisconsin starting pitcher as he made his second appearance off the injured list.  Gillis allowed two hits over three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Cubs (33-53 overall, 10-10 second half) broke through in the top of the fourth without a hit and with help from a bout of wildness from reliever Anthony Flores.  The first two batters of the inning walked.  Flores appeared to settle down as he struck out the next batter and was ahead of Ivan Brethowr with two quick strikes.  The next pitch was inside, and the Rattlers appealed on a check swing that was ruled a ball.  Brethowr insisted that the ball had grazed his right leg and – after a brief discussion between the umpires – first base was awarded to Brethowr to load the bases.  Miguel Pabon followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.

Flores walked the next batter to reload the bases.  Then, he walked Rafael Morel to force in the second run of the inning.

Wisconsin (40-45, 6-14) struggled to get anything going against Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher, who retired the first sixteen Rattlers he faced in the game.  Yhoswar Garcia singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth to be Wisconsin’s first base runner of the game.

That changed after the seventh inning stretch.  Blake Burke singled to start the inning.  Pérez was at the plate with one out and crushed the first pitch of his at bat to right for a game-tying, two-run home run.  Pérez has eleven homers this season with four of them against the Cubs.

Nicasia stepped in with two outs and none on base to face Gallagher.  Nicasia also jumped the first pitch from Gallagher to launch a go-ahead home run to right-center to give the Rattlers a 3-2 lead.

Wisconsin’s bullpen carried that one-run lead to the finish line.  Yerlin Rodriguez, who had entered in the seventh inning, pitched a perfect eighth.  Aaron Rund got the call for the ninth inning and pitched around a two-out single by Preciado by striking out Morel to end the game.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Sam Garcia (1-5, 6.21) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Connor Schultz (0-3, 4.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Cubs.  Game time is 1:10pm CDT.

Rockers edge Chinooks

A five-run sixth inning helped the Green Bay Rockers sprint past the Lakeshore Chinooks 8-7.

Trailing 7-3, the Rockers used five hits and took advantage of an error to score their five runs. The biggest blow came from a two-run single off the bat of David Ballenilla. Xaige Lancaster had three hits while Eli Selga and  McClane Helton each posted two hits. Gavin Brummund picked up the win with two innings of shutout baseball and two strikeouts.

Glory men top AFC Roscoe

The Green Bay Glory withstood the heat to earn the 3-2 win over AFC Roscoe on Saturday.

Tyler Bagley's scored the Glory's first goal with Keven Sosa also helping to give the team a 2-1 halftime lead. Osvaldo Ramirez registered the team's game-winning goal in the second half to give the Glory the win.

Blizzard return to action Saturday

After taking the holiday off, the Green Bay Blizzard return to action on Saturday night with a matchup against the Quad City Steamwheelers.

The two teams have split their previous matchups this season, with both winning their respective home games. The Steamwheelers won late to steal a 39-37 win away from the Blizzard in the season opener. The Blizzard got their revenge about a month later with a much more comfortable 47-25 win at the Resch Center.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.

Rattlers Drop 12-3 Decision to South Bend

Nestor Cortes pitched four scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out two as the starting pitcher for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The South Bend Cubs scored twelve runs after Cortes left the game and beat Wisconsin 12-3.

Cortes, who was on a rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, needed just 54 pitches to work his four innings.  The only hits he allowed were an infield single to Cristian Hernandez in the first, another infield single to Hernandez in the fourth, and a single to center by Cameron Sisneros in the fourth.

Wisconsin (39-44 overall, 5-13 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Hedbert Pérez.  The homer was the tenth of the season for Pérez.

Jaron DeBerry took over for Cortes to face the Cubs (32-52, 9-9) in the top of the fifth inning and retired the first two batters.  The third out was elusive.  Rafael Morel’s sinking liner to left dropped in for a single and DeBerry walked Ivan Brethowr on four pitches.  Jefferson Rojas followed with a single to center to score Morel and send Brethowr to third base.  Yhoswar Garcia tried to throw out Brethowr at third and that allowed Rojas to take second.  Hernandez was next and his fly ball to the track in left-center dropped just out of the reach of Garcia to give South Bend a 3-2 lead.

That lead moved to 4-2 with a two-out, solo home run by Drew Bowser in the top of the sixth.

The Rattlers cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the inning on a lead-off double by Blake Burke and a two-out, RBI single by Luiyin Alastre.  But that would be as close as the Rattlers would get.

Rojas hit a solo homer in the seventh and Miguel Pabon added a two-run single in the eighth.

The Cubs poured it on in the ninth on a two-run home run by Sisneros and a three-run triple by Brethowr.

South Bend has hit six home runs in the first three games of the series at Wisconsin.  They had three on Tuesday night in their 13-4 win and added three more on Thursday night.

Burke and Blayberg Diaz led the offense for Wisconsin.  Diaz had three hits, including a double.  Burke had two hits, a walk, and scored two runs.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Manuel Rodriguez (0-1, 1.69) is set to start for the Rattlers.  South Bend has named Erian Rodriguez (2-3, 3.00) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rockers look to finish Rafters off as part of doubleheader

The Green Bay Rockers will try to sweep a doubleheader on Friday after the rain shortened Thursday matchup with a 5-0 lead against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The Rockers scored all five runs in the third inning before the game was forced to be called. An error on a ball hit by Collin Helms sprung the leak for the Rockers, allowing three of the five runs to be unearned.

The Rockers and Rafters will start the shortened game at 3:05 p.m. before playing their regularly scheduled 6:35 p.m. game.

Local baseball round-up: Shoreland All-Stars shuts out Door County

After their All-Star teams battled each other Thursday night, the Door County League and Shoreland League continue their regular season on Friday night.

The Shoreland League shut out the Door County League 5-0 at Joannes Park in Green Bay on Thursday, giving the Shoreland League a 2-1 advantage in the series since the All-Star Game was moved to the ballpark three seasons ago.

Friday night games include Maplewood visiting Institute and Baileys Harbor welcoming West Jacksonport. In the Shoreland League, Casco is at home against Two Rivers, and Kewaunee travels to Denmark. All four games will start at 7:30 p.m.

Rockers hook Chinooks to break skid

After a rough Tuesday night that saw them lose two games in walk-off homer fashion, the Green Bay Rockers bounced back into the win column with a 10-3 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Rockers responded to two Chinooks runs with three of their own in the second inning to take a short-lived lead. After the Chinooks tied the game in the third, the Rockers took the lead for good in the fourth inning with four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Parker Martin. The Rockers stretched their lead later in the game with two runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth inning.

Martin ended his day with three RBI, with Eric Jeon, Kasen Khansarinia, and David Mysza all driving in a pair. All-Star pitcher Koshiro Ohno earned his third win of the season, allowing three runs (3 ER) on four hits and four walks while striking out four across five innings of work.

Door County, Shoreland meet for All-Star Game

For the third year in a row, the best of the Door County League and Shoreland League will meet under the lights of Joannes Park in Green Bay for their All-Star Game.

The two leagues have split their last two matchups at the historic Green Bay ballpark. Last year, the Shoreland League threatened late but could never push the tying or winning runs across as the Door County League escaped with a 5-4 All-victory. After a scoreless first inning, Door County struck first when Jack Peterson (Kolberg) drove in Trevor Reinhardt (Kolberg) and Cody Giesseman (Egg Harbor) to make 2-0. Shoreland would cut the lead in half in the third inning when Cal Ihlenfeldt (Kewaunee) singled in Noah Lindsley (Casco). Peterson would strike again in the fourth inning with an RBI single that saw Riley Spetz (Egg Harbor) come around to score. Stew Larsen (Sister Bay) would come through in the fifth with a single that saw Troy Jorgenson (Washington Island) and Spencer Krause (Sister Bay) come around to score to make 5-1. Shoreland would start chipping away at the advantage from there. Trevor Cornell's RBI single brought home a pair in the sixth and Chris Kopic (Branch) singled in another to make it 5-4. Door County's pitchers would come through in the clutch, stranding at least one Shoreland player in scoring position in the final four innings. Door County last great chance came in the eighth inning, but Shoreland doubled up their guests as they threw out Tom Sawyer trying to steal a run to prevent the lead from getting widened. The game-clinching play came in the bottom of the ninth, with the Shoreland League threatening with men on second and third. A slow bouncer to Krause sealed the game late to preserve the victory.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

South Bend Opportunistic in Win Over Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outhit the South Bend Cubs 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  However, the Cubs took advantage of six walks and two errors as they scored two unearned run in a 3-1 win over the Rattlers.  South Bend starting pitcher Evan Aschenbeck buckled but didn’t break over his seven innings of work to pick up the win.

The Cubs (31-52 overall, 8-9 second half) took the lead in the top of the first on three walks, three stolen bases, and a throwing error.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard walked Ivan Brethowr to start the game with Brethowr stealing second base moments later.  With one out, Birchard walked Cristian Hernandez.

Carter Trice was at the plate when Brethowr and Hernandez pulled a double steal.  Catcher Victor Torres attempted to get Brethowr at third, but his throw hit the bat of Trice, who had not moved the bat from his shoulder after the pitch.  The ball deflected into the Cubs dugout on the third base side of the field and Brethowr was awarded home plate on the error for an unearned run.

Birchard pitched a perfect second, a perfect third, and retired the first batter he faced in the fourth.  However, he would walk Cameron Sisneros, Birchard’s fourth walk of the game.  Sisneros stole second with two outs on an 0-2 pitch to Edgar Alvarez that missed for a ball.  Sisneros singled on the next pitch to drive in Sisneros for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Birchard walked Brethowr with one out to end his day.  Birchard walked five, struck out seven, and allowed one hit as he turned the game over to Jack Seppings.

Seppings ran into bad luck right away.  An error allowed Jefferson Rojas to reach, and an infield hit on a slow chopper by Cristian Hernandez loaded the bases.  Seppings bounced back to strike out Trice for the second out.  However, Sisneros blooped a single to left to score Brethowr.  Hernandez was thrown out at third for the final out before Rojas could cross the plate to prevent the Cubs from adding a second run in the inning.

The Rattlers (39-43, 5-12) got to Aschenbeck in the sixth inning.  Juan Baez singled with one out, moved to second on a grounder, and scored on a single by Luiyin Alastre.  Aschenbeck wouldn’t allow anything else.  He scattered eight hits, walked none, and struck out one through his seven innings.

Wisconsin had a chance in the bottom of the eighth against Grayson Moore, who walked Baez and Kay-Lan Nicasia with one out and Tayden Hall with two outs to load the bases.  Moore would get a strikeout to end the inning.  Jackson Kirkpatrick pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to close out the game for his first save with the Cubs.

Alastre and Jadher Areinamo both had three hits for the Timber Rattlers.  Wednesday was Areinamo’s third consecutive game with three hits.

The Rattlers stranded eleven runners in the game and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Nestor Cortes of the Milwaukee Brewers is scheduled to make a rehabilitation start for the Rattlers.  South Bend has announced Brandon Birdsell, who is on a minor league rehab assignment for the Chicago Cubs, as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rockers outlast Dock Spiders

A first-inning double-play ball hit by Eli Selga proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Green Bay Rockers win over the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Monday night.

Offense was hard to come by despite the Rockers giving the Dock Spiders extra base runners via three errors while being outhit 6-5. The two teams traded runs in the seventh inning with the Rockers' McClane Helton matching the Dock Spiders' Jaron Cotton solo shot with one of his own to ensure the home team earned the win.

David Ballenilla had two hits to lead the Rockers. KJ Ward earned the win in relief, allowing two hits across the final three innings while striking out a pair.

NHL Draft highlights Gamblers offseason

The first games are months away, but that does not mean there has not been plenty of the action for the Green Bay Gamblers.

Most of the headlines this offseason have centered around last month's NHL Draft, which saw one of its top players, Aidan Park, get drafted by his hometown Edmonton Oilers with the second-to-last pick. Park will still head to Michigan in the fall to begin his collegiate career with the Wolverines.

Two other Gamblers players were also drafted by NHL teams.

USHL Player of the Year Will Zellers also got some facetime with the NHL during the offseason, joining former Gamblers Casey Mittelstadt, Andrew Peeke, and Mason Lohrei in wearing the black and gold of the Boston Bruins as a part of their development camp.

Zellers is just one of the many Gamblers alums that have made their way to NHL Development Camps this summer.

The Gamblers will play their first home series of the year October 4th and 5th against Team USA. You can see the full schedule below:

Mets topple Ports

A late surge helped Maplewood cruise past West Jacksonport 13-5.

The two teams played close in the early stages, with the Mets clinging to a 4-2 lead heading into the game's back half. A five-run sixth inning changed that for the Mets with homers from Adam Gutschow and RBI doubles from Tory Jandrin and Nolan Wagner, changing the game's tenor. The Mets added two more runs in the seventh and answered a three-run Ports eighth inning with two more runs in the ninth inning.

For the Mets, Gutschow and Wagner each had at least two RBI, and Kordell Draves had two hits. Will Jandrin earned the win on the mound by allowing two runs (2 ER) on seven hits while striking out five. The Ports outhit the Mets 13-7 and benefited from three Mets errors. CJ Goetz had three hits and an RBI while Alec Schartner and Drew Tanck each had two hits. Goetz took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (4 ER) on one hit, spoiling a six strikeout inning.

Glory men pick up matinee win

The Green Bay Glory find themselves in second place in their Wisconsin Cup standings after registering a 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Torrent on the road on Wednesday.

They trail Madison United by one point in the standings after losing 1-0 to them last month. In the other division, Superior City and UD Bateaux are tied at three points with a win and a draw on their ledger.

Rockers' winning streak ends on Lakeshore

The Green Bay Rockers will try to start a new winning streak Thursday night after falling to the Lakeshore Chinooks 2-1 on Wednesday.

An unearned run off a single by Eli Selga was the lone run the Rockers could muster as they were outhit 8-3 by the Chinooks. Xaige Lancaster and Stefan Di Corrado accounted for the other hits.

The Rockers welcome the Dock Spiders for a pair beginning Thursday at 6:35 p.m.

Sky Carp Steal a Win

The Beloit Sky Carp kept the pressure on and the Wisconsin Timber Rattler off the bases in their 4-1 victory on Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Four Beloit pitchers held Wisconsin to three hits while the Sky Carp offense stole nine bases and took advantage of two Timber Rattlers errors for the win.

Gage Miller put the Sky Carp (36-41 overall, 6-5 second half) in front with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Wisconsin (37-39, 3-8) tied the game by manufacturing a run in the top of the third.  Yhoswar Garcia reached to start the frame by beating out a soft grounder to short.  He stole second and moved to third on a grounder off the bat of Hedbert Pérez.  Jadher Areinamo sent a fly ball to right that was deep enough for Garcia to tag and score the tying run just ahead of the throw to the plate.

Rattlers starter Sam Garcia got the first two Sky Carp batters in the bottom of the third, but a bloop double by Jesús Hernandez extended the inning.  Yiddi Cappe hit a hard one-hopper to third that Juan Baez knocked down but had no play on for an infield single to put runners at the corners.  Then, Cappe would steal second base.  The throw from catcher Blayberg Diaz deflected off Cappe to the outfield and Hernandez scored the go-ahead run.

An error on a grounder to Baez in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed another run to score for Beloit.  That run was set up when Sam Garcia hit Colby Shade with one out.  Shade stole second and went to third on a fly ball to center.  Cappe hit a bouncer toward short.  Baez tried to cut it off to make the play at first.  However, he couldn’t handle the ball cleanly to let Shade score for a 3-1 lead.

The Sky Carp added a two-out run in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Yerlin Rodriguez.  Brock Vradenburg drew a two-out, four-pitch walk and stole second.  Emaarion Boyd followed with a double to right for a 4-1 lead.

The Timber Rattlers offense didn’t have a lot going on after the third inning.  Juan Baez singled to start the fourth but was erased on a force play.  That hit by Baez was the last hit of the game for Wisconsin.  The only other base runners for the Rattlers in the game were on a two-out walk to Kay-Lan Nicasia in the seventh and a two-out walk to Baez in the ninth.

Will Schomberg was the winning pitcher for the Sky Carp.  He allowed one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout over five innings.  Three relievers – Nick Maldonado, Chase Centala, and Colby Martin – closed out the game with each throwing a scoreless, hitless inning.  Martin earned the save by pitching the ninth.

Garcia was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run on four hits.  He walked three, hit one, and struck out three over 4-2/3 innings.

The Sky Carp have 203 stolen bases in 77 games this season.  They are 32-for-35 in seven games against the Timber Rattlers in 2025.

Game three of the series at ABC Supply stadium is scheduled for Thursday night.  Ryan Birchard (2-4, 3.99) is scheduled as the starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Brandon White (2-3, 6.87) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Rattlers Swoop In For A Win at Beloit

Kaylan Nicasia hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  That homer, an insurance run in the seventh, and solid relief pitching from Stiven Cruz and Jesús Broca propelled Wisconsin to a 3-2 win over the Beloit Sky Carp in game one of the series between the in-state rivals.

Eric Rataczak gave the Sky Carp (35-41 overall, 5-5 second half) a 1-0 lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning.  That was the only hit allowed by Wisconsin starting pitcher Manuel Rodriguez.  The Rattler right-hander was making his second start off the injured list and pitched two innings.

Beloit starting pitcher Nick Brink pitched 5-2/3 innings without allowing a run.  He allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out six.

Justin Storm took over for Brink with two outs and none on in the top of the sixth.  Storm was ahead of Blake Burke 0-2 before Burke lined a single to right on a 2-2 pitch.  Storm also got up 0-2 on Nicasia.  Then, Nicasia took a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right for a two-run homer and the Rattlers were up 2-1.  The home run was the first for Nicasia since he had two in a game at Quad Cities on April 10

Wisconsin (37-38, 3-7) added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning.  Blayberg Diaz doubled with one out and took third on a flyout to center.  Hedbert Pérez dropped a bloop single just out of the reach Colby Shade, the Sky Carp centerfielder trying to make a diving catch.  That run would turn out to be important for Wisconsin.

Cruz was also key to the Wisconsin comeback.  He pitched 4-1/3 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out four through the middle innings.  Cruz would leave the game after allowing a one-out double to Connor Caskenette in the bottom of the seventh.

Broca was called in from the Rattlers bullpen and got the final two outs of the seventh on grounders to strand Caskenette.

The Sky Carp had two straight singles with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning before Broca retired Yiddi Cappe on a grounder to short.

In the ninth, Rataczak drew a lead-off walk but was erased on a force out after a weak ground ball to second by Caskenette.  Gage Miller singled to bring Wilfredo Lara to the plate as the potential winning run.

Caskenette and Miller pulled a double steal during the at bat to put the tying runs in scoring position.  Lara swung at a 3-0 pitch and grounded out to second to score Caskenette and get Miller to third with Emaarion Boyd next to hit for the Sky Carp.

Boyd popped up a 1-1 pitch to short with Eduardo Garcia squeezing the ball after making the catch for the final out and a Wisconsin victory.  Broca was credited with the save, his third of the season.

The series continues at ABC Supply Stadium on Wednesday night.  Sam Garcia (1-3, 5.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit has named Will Schomberg (0-4, 4.75) as their starter.  Game time is 6:35pm.
