Shoreland League: Guins pull away from Chiefs in doubleheader

The Algoma Penguins earned two lopsided wins over the Kewaunee Chiefs on Monday, sweeping their doubleheader by scores of 10-3 and 18-4.

 

In game one, the Penguins led 4-0 before the Chiefs scratched their first run across the board in the fourth inning. The Penguins responded with two runs in their half of the frame followed by four more in the fifth inning to run away with the game. Jack Peterson went 1-3 with two RBI thanks to a home run to lead the Penguins offensively. Ethan Paplham and Ben Griffey each had two hits in the loss for the Chiefs. Carson Leist outdueled the combination of Brett Paulsen and Jackson Walechka on the mound, allowing two runs (2 ER) on six hits across six innings while striking out seven to earn the win.

 

In game two, the Penguins responded to a 4-2 deficit in the second inning with four runs in the third and six runs in the fourth to run away from the Chiefs in the second game. Spencer Krause went 5-5 with four runs scored and two driven in to lead the Penguins. Jaden Dillar had three hits and Justin Massey had two hits. Massey led all of the Penguins with four RBI while Dillar, Krause, and Tyler Neinas also had multi-RBI games. Krause closed things out for the Penguins, allowing no hits while striking out five across the final four innings.

 

Tonight, Casco plays Denmark on the road at 7:30 p.m. before playing the Penguins next Tuesday.
