Sunday's slate of Door County Baseball League action had a little bit of everything in the penultimate weekend of July.
Woody Schartner hit two home runs and Riley Cordier slugged a grand slam as West Jacksonport jumped past Washington Island 7-3.
A pitching duel early turned into another loss for Institute as they fell to Sister Bay 6-1 on the road. Scoreless through four innings, the Bays scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to give them what proved to be enough to win the game. The Cubs finally tallied a run in the eighth inning when Nick Peterson drew a bases-loaded walk. Tom Sawyer went 2-4 with an RBI while Sawyer Johnson collected two RBI without the benefit of a hit to lead the Bays to victory.
Kolberg was able to keep pace in the DCL with an 11-1 win over Baileys Harbor.
Maplewood outlasted Egg Harbor in what proved to be a back-and-forth game that went in the Mets' favor when they scored two runs in the seventh to retake the lead. Nolan Wagner went 4-5 with two RBI for the Mets, while Kordell Draves went 1-3 with a triple and three RBI, and Will Jandrin went yard for his lone hit to drive in two runs. Cory Fuller and Cody Giesseman each had two hits and Brody Kollath had a pair of RBI for the Indians in the loss.
