All eyes were on the small town of Maplewood, where the only Door County Baseball League action you could find was the fourth-seeded play-in game between the Baileys Harbor A's and the Maplewood Mets. Both teams ended the regular season 7-7 overall, hence the need for the extra game to see who would earn the right to take the trip north to Sister Bay to play the regular-season champion Bays. Coming into the matchup, runs were expected from both offenses, and they did not disappoint.

The first inning showcased both offenses, as Baileys Harbor got to Maplewood starter Tory Jandrin early, scoring three runs in the top of the inning. Ethan Kratcha and Aaron Brey both singled, although Brey's single could have easily resulted in a 6-4-3 double play after a grounder bounced high, forcing Gavin Brady to leave his feet and allowing Brey to reach. Owen Danhausen started his fantastic day with a two-run ground-rule double, and a walk to Justin Hartel brought home another run for the A's.

In the bottom half, Maplewood looked to respond. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch to the first two Mets batters, Tory Jandrin rocketed a two-run single to score both runners. Mark Villers brought in two more runs on an error by Kratcha at shortstop, and a dropped third strike that got to the backstop allowed another run to score, making it 5-3 after one inning.

Maplewood was not done there. In the bottom of the second, Kody Kissinger walked for the second consecutive inning, and Kordell Draves took a 3-2 fastball deep into left-center field and over the head of Gavin Blink to expand the Mets' lead from 5-3 to 7-3. It appeared Maplewood was going to slug its way to a matchup with Sister Bay next week. Baileys Harbor had other ideas.

It took until the fifth inning for the offense to get going again, but another gap-splitting double from Owen Danhausen started the rally for the A's. Danny Lodl singled to put two on with two outs for Baileys Harbor. Designated hitter Justin Hartel played his role perfectly and lifted a high fly ball into right-center field. Maplewood's Jaden Diller gave it a chance, but the ball one-hopped the base of the wall, giving Hartel a two-run double and cutting the four-run lead in half.

Danny Lodl replaced Aaron Brey in the bottom of the second and pitched a gem into the sixth inning, when a two-out walk to Jaden Diller came back to haunt him. Adam Gutschow sent a screamer into the gap to score Diller all the way from first, extending Maplewood's lead back to three.

Fast-forward to the eighth inning, when the magic happened for a team that felt destined to do some damage. After struggling with runners in scoring position all afternoon, manager Hunter Pawelski decided to make a move, pinch-hitting Isaac Baudhuin for trusty center fielder River Pawelski. The move paid off and then some, as Baudhuin lifted the fourth pitch he saw over the fence in left-center field, sending A's fans into a frenzy and trimming the lead to one.

If you thought that was all, you would be wrong. Will Jandrin retired the next two batters after the Baudhuin home run and then faced Aaron Brey, who had already reached base three times. Brey won yet another battle, singling back through the middle and putting a runner on for Owen Danhausen, who had already recorded two extra-base hits earlier in the game.

Danhausen, looking for a pitch to attack early, rocketed Jandrin's offering to left-center field, where his third extra-base hit sailed just beyond the fence, silencing the Mets faithful and sending the A's players halfway onto the diamond. Danhausen's two-run home run off Jandrin could arguably be the play of the season thus far. Ethan Kratcha then blanked the Mets in the bottom of the ninth, sending Baileys Harbor to the playoffs for the first time since 1998.

The DCBL playoffs are now set, as the top-seeded, regular-season champion Sister Bay Bays will host the underdog, fourth-seeded Baileys Harbor A's. Elsewhere, the second-seeded Kolberg Braves will host the third-seeded Washington Island Islanders in a rematch of the final game of the regular season, when Kolberg earned the win and home-field advantage for the playoff matchup.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers stormed back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Lake County Captains 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Eric Bitonti led the offense by going 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI while Jacob Morrison kept Lake County in check with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Tommy Hawke started the game with a single for the Captains (63-53 overall, 26 26 second half).  He made it to third on a pair of infield ground outs.  Jeffrey Mercedes blooped a single to right to score Hawke to give Lake County an early 1-0 lead.

Bitonti brought the Rattlers (62-53, 28-25) even with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Daniel Dickinson from third base.

A pair of one-out walks and a single loaded the bases for Lake County in the top of the second inning.  Hawke singled to left to knock in the go-ahead run.  Dauri Fernandez followed with a double to left that scored two more runs.  A wild pitch by Andrew Healy let Hawke score for a 5-1 lead.

Bitonti accounted for Wisconsin’s second run when he hit another mammoth blast to right for a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth.  The slugging left-handed infielder had twenty-one home runs on the season after that homer.

The Rattlers loaded the bases against Lake County starting pitcher Nelson Keljo on a double by Tayden Hall, a walk to Luis Castillo, and a one-out walk to Luis Lameda.  Keljo left the game with a 5-2 lead after getting the second out of the inning.

Will McCausland balked before throwing a pitch to Brady Ebel to allow Hall to score.  Ebel drove in Castillo and Lameda with a double to left-center to tie the game.

Bitonti struck again with a towering fly to right in the fifth inning that carried just over the wall for a go-ahead home run.  That blast gave him 22 homers on the season and his third two-homer game of 2026.  He is one homer shy of Braylon Payne’s franchise record with twelve games left in the season.  Payne hit his 23rd home run of the season to set the record on August 8 at Beloit just before he was called up to Biloxi, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dickinson added to the Wisconsin lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

Morrison picked up the win out of the bullpen.  He struck out six and faced one batter over the minimum in his four frames.  The only blemish was a popup on the infield that was lost in the sun for a single.  Morrison matched his professional single-game high for strikeouts with six.

The Captains had one last gasp in them as they loaded the bases in the eighth inning against José Nova.  There were two out and a runner at second when Nova walked back-to-back hitters to load the bases.  Michael Fowler was called in from the bullpen and got a strikeout to end the threat.

Fowler made sure there was no threat in the ninth as he retired the side in order to close out the game and earn his third save of the season.

Wisconsin matched their biggest comeback of the season by erasing a four-run deficit for the fourth time this season.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday night with game one of a six-game series at Neuroscience Group Field against the South Bend Cubs.  First pitch is 6:40pm CDT.

The Green Bay Packers open their final week of training camp Monday with their second-to-last open practice of 2026.

The Packers are coming off a strong 33-13 win over the Denver Broncos last Friday night. Jordan Love led a scoring drive for the second straight week, this time culminating in an 11-yard touchdown pass to Marshawn Lloyd. After allowing 10 straight points to the Broncos, the Packers scored 16 unanswered, including a 2-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor to Will Sheppard and three field goals from Trey Smack, two from 50-plus yards. The game was well in hand before the Packers scored the final 10 points, including a short touchdown run by Jaden Nixon. Kyle McCord led the Packers with 118 passing yards, while Taylor and Love each threw a touchdown pass. Pierre Strong paced the rushing attack with 37 yards, while Nixon added another 20 on the ground. Sheppard and Isaiah Neyor each had 47 receiving yards, though Sheppard had three more receptions than Neyor with six.

The Packers will practice on their own Monday before hosting the Arizona Cardinals for a joint session Wednesday. The joint practice sets the stage for Friday’s preseason finale at Lambeau Field, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

 The Lake County Captains took advantage of a break in the top of the sixth inning to score five runs with two outs to blow open a close game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Lake County beat the Rattlers 6-1 for their third consecutive win and their fourth in the first five games of the series.

The game was scoreless through four innings before Lake County (63-53 overall, 25-26 second half) broke through on a big swing.

Tyler Howard hit a two-out, solo homer in the top of the fifth inning to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.  That was the first hit of the game for Lake County off Jayden Dubanewcz, the Wisconsin starting pitcher.

In the top of the sixth, Dubanewicz gave up a lead-off double and recorded his fifth strikeout of the game before he gave way to reliever Chandler Welch.

Welch walked the first two batters he faced to load the bases.  He rebounded to get the second out of the inning with a strikeout and get ahead of Howard 0-2.  Wisconsin thought Welch had struck out Howard on a check swing, but Howard was ruled not to have gone around to keep his at bat alive.  Two pitches later, Howard blooped a single to left to score two runs.

José Pirela was next to face Welch, and they battled for ten pitches.  Welch again got ahead 0-2.  Pirela fouled of a pair of 1-2 pitches and three 2-2 pitches before hitting a three-run home run to right for a 6-0 lead.

The Rattlers (61-53, 27-25) managed two hits off Lake County starting pitcher Jacob Zibin.  Tayden Hall had a one-out double in the second and Yannic Walther singled with one out in the third.  Zibin retired the next eleven batters he faced and completed six scoreless innings with no walks and a pro single-game high for strikeouts with seven.

Xavier Martinez, the first Captains reliever, extended the number of consecutive Rattlers retired to fifteen before he walked Luiyin Alastre with one out in the eighth.  Zane Petty got the final two outs of the eighth with strikeouts.

Wisconsin avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the ninth.  Daniel Dickinson and Sawyer Strosnider had back-to-back singles with one out.  Both moved up a base on a balk by Petty.  Eric Bitonti hit blooper to left that was run down by Tommy Hawke for the second out, but Dickinson was able to tag and score on the sacrifice fly.

Bitonti’s RBI was #70 on the season for him.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Andrew Healy (0-1, 3.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  The Captains have named Nelson Keljo (0-1, 4.61) as their starter.  Game time is 1:10pm.

A trip to Sister Bay is on the line this Sunday afternoon when Baileys Harbor makes a visit to Maplewood to play for the final spot in the Door County Baseball League playoffs.

The Mets played their way into the conversation with a dominating 21-1 win over Institute. The Mets outhit the Cubs 21-4 and took advantage of four errors. Adam Gutschow had four hits and four RBI to lead the Mets while Mason Paye also had four hits and Kody Kissinger, Jaden Diller, and Will Jandrin recorded three. Diller also drove in four runs while Kissinger (2), Tory Jandrin (3), and Paye (2) had multi-RBI games as well. Diller, Kissinger, and Tory Jandrin all homered in the game. Tory Jandrin earned the win on the mound, shutting out the Cubs over five innings while allowing three hits and three walks and striking out three.

The A's held the fourth spot until it got nipped by West jacksonport 5-4 in the finale. Danny Lodl and Caleb Plzak each had two hits while Owen Dannhausen recorded the lone RBI. Aaron Brey took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs (1 ER) on eight hits and three walks while striking out one.

The Mets swept the season series from the A's, beating them 16-0 on June 14th and 7-4 on August 2nd.

The Lake County Captains built another early lead and held off multiple late rallies from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to beat Wisconsin 8-4 Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.

There was a late start to the game with rain and threatening weather delaying the start of the game one hour and twenty-one minutes until 8:21pm.
 

Lake County (62-52 overall, 25-25 second half) scored in the first inning for the second game in a row.  Welbyn Francisca walked with one out.  Anthony Martinez doubled to the corner in right to drive Francisca home for the 1-0 lead.

The Captains expanded the lead in the third inning with four runs on four hits.  Tommy Hawke started the rally with a double.  Martinez knocked in Hawke with a one-out single.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Daniel Corniel walked the next batter before he gave up an RBI double to Jeffery Mercedes and a two-out, two-run single to Jose Pirela to see the Rattlers deficit grow to 5-0.

Wisconsin (61-52, 27-24) stole a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Sawyer Strosnider singled, stole second, and went to third on a single by Eric Bitonti.  Bitonti stole second and drew a throw.  A missed catch by Francisca at second allowed the ball to trickle to the outfield and Strosnider to score.  Lake County starting Pitcher Jackson Humphries struck out the next three batters to stop that rally in its tracks.

Wande Torres, who replaced Corniel to start the top of the fourth, loaded the bases on two hit batsmen and a single in the fifth.  Torres nearly got out of the inning but a two-out passed ball allowed a run to score to start a pattern of Wisconsin getting a run and the Captains answering in their next at bat.

The Rattlers chipped away again in the bottom of the fifth.  Brady Ebel turned a single to center into a double with two outs.  Daniel Dickinson followed with a triple right to score Ebel.
 

Another unearned run for the Captains scored in the top of the sixth.  They loaded the based with one out on an error, a single, and a walk.  Cannon Peebles singled to knock in the run to make it 7-2.

Luis Flores, Lake County’s third pitcher of the game, let the Rattlers get closer again in the bottom of the seventh as he walked four, including a bases-loaded walk to Dickinson.  A wild pitch let in another run and the Rattlers were down 7-4.

Lake County responded in the top of the eighth against Tanner Perry.  Francisca singled and stole second to start the inning.  Peebles doubled and the score was 8-4 when Francisca crossed the plate.

The Timber Rattlers had threats in both the eighth and ninth innings against Jogly Garcia.  In the eighth, Tayden Hall doubled and Tyler Rodriguez drew a one-out walk.  Garcia struck out the next two batters,

In the ninth, Wisconsin loaded the bases with one out.  Dickinson singled with Strosnider and Bitonti drawing walks to bring the tying run to the plate.  Garcia would close out the game with a strikeout and a flyout to center as the Captains take a 3-1 lead in the series with two games remaining in the set.

Dickinson, who went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBI, made some history in Friday’s game.  He stole two bases in the first inning to give him fifty on the season.  Dickinson is only the third Timber Rattlers player to steal fifty or more bases in a season.  Ramon Valera stole 52 bases in 1998.  Pedro Liriano set the current single-season stolen base record for the Rattlers with 65 in 2001.

The Timber Rattlers stranded eleven runners and were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position in Friday’s game.

Game five of the series is Saturday night.  It features a pitching matchup of Jayden Dubanewicz (3-4, 5.11) on the mound for the Timber Rattlers against Jacob Zibin (3-2, 3.02) for the Captains.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Green Bay Rockers' David Ballenilla and Coleman Lewis were named to the 2026 Northwoods League Postseason All-Star Team this week as the league announces some of their year-end awards.

Ballenilla batted .310 with eight home runs, 40 RBI, and an OPS of .945 while posting a fielding percentage of .937 in the infield. Lewis batted .324 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI and an OPS of 1.074. 

The Royal Oak Leprechauns led the voting with four selections. The Rochester Honkers and Eau Claire Express had three selections each.

Dale Varsho of the Eau Claire Express is the 2026 Manager of the Year. The Express had the best overall record in the league at 46-22 and were the Second Half Champions in the Great Plains East Division.

The 2026 Coach of the Year in the Northwoods League is Christian Faust of the Royal Oak Leprechauns. Faust was instrumental in helping lead the Leprechauns to a second-half title in the Great Lakes East and an eventual Northwoods League Championship after going 4-0 in the playoffs.

The Casco A's captured their first Shoreland League title since 2005 on Thursday with a 4-1 victory over Denmark in game three of their championship series.

The A's wasted no time to get ahead, scoring twice in the opening frame on a Trevor Reinhardt groundout and a Mitch Jandrin single. The Devilbears cut the lead in half in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Rheis Johnson, but the A's added two runs of insurance in the eighth inning on a homer by Phillip Daniels to stretch their lead back out. Reinhardt allowed the tying run to get to the plate in the ninth inning, but induced the title-clinching ground out to cue the celebration.

The A's were outhit 8-5 with Daniels, Jandrin, Kordell Draves, Casey Weddig, and Cole Bzdawka securing the hits. Noah Lindsley earned the win on the mound, allowing seven of the Devilbears' eight hits, but limited them to one runs (1 ER) while striking out five across 7.1 innings before Reinhardt collected the save.

The Green Bay Packers will play its second preseason game on Friday when they travel to the Mile High City to face the Denver Broncos.

The Packers showed that they have plenty to work on still after its 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. Trey Smack drilled three field goals and one other that was negated by a penalty to give fans hope after a rough start to his camp. Of his four kicks that went through the uprights, two of them were from 58 yards out. Jordan Love's night ended after the first drive, going 3-5 for 18 yards as he led the Packers to an opening drive field goal. Backup Kyle McCord opened eyes in relief of Love and Tyrod Taylor, throwing for 102 yards on 12 completions. Isaiah Neyor led the Packers in receiving with four grabs for 34 yards while Damien Martinez led the team in rushing with 20 yards on eight carries. 

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

The Lake County Captains took advantage of three Wisconsin Timber Rattlers errors and eight walks to cruise to a 10-1 victory Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Anthony Martinez went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, and three RBI to lead Lake County to its second win of the series.

Welbyn Francisca put the Captains (61-52 overall, 24-25 second half) up 1-0 in the top of the first inning with one out on an inside-the-park homer.  Francisca hit a ball off the left-centerfield wall under the scoreboard.  The ball caromed back toward center field past the Rattlers outfielders. Francisca raced around the bases to beat the relay throw to the plate for his fifteenth homer of the season.

Lake County added to their lead in the fourth with the help of three errors by the Timber Rattlers.  The rally started with one out on a single and a double.  Garrett Howe singled to center past the drawn-in infield.  Both runners scored and Howe wound up at third base after a wild throw to the plate by Sawyer Strosnider.

The Rattlers infield was still in on the grass when Tommy Hawke hit a grounder to Daniel Dickinson at second.  Dickinson’s throw to the plate was wild to allow Howe to score and Hawke wound up at second. 

Hawke took off for third with Rattler pitcher Ethan Dorchies still in the stretch position.  Dorchies stepped off and threw wildly to third allowing Hawke to score the fourth run of the inning.

Dorchies got the second out of the inning but gave up a single to Juneiker Caceres and a two-run home run to Anthony Martinez before he could get the final out of the inning and Lake County led 7-0. 

Wisconsin (61-51, 27-23) loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning against Lake County starting pitcher Harrison Bodendorf.  Yannic Walther hit a line drive ticketed for left field that was snared by Jeffrey Mercedes for the final out of the inning.

The Captains added three more runs without a hit in the top of the fifth.  Wisconsin reliever Yerlin Rodriguez had two outs and a runner at first but walked the next three batters to force in a run.  Then, he hit a batter to force in another run.  Josh Quezada took over for Rodriguez and walked in another run to give Lake County a 10-0 lead.
 

Wisconsin got on the scoreboard in the eighth.  Cam Schuelke, the third Captains pitcher of the game, hit Strosnider with one out.  Strosnider took second on defensive indifference, moved to third on a grounder, and scored on a balk by Schuelke.

Quezada, José Nova, and Michael Fowler kept the Captains in check over the final 4-1/3 innings with no hits and three strikeouts.

Melkis Hernández, who relieved Lake County starting pitcher Harrison Bodendorf with two outs in the fifth, earned the win, his sixth of the season.  Hernández walked two and struck out two over 2-1/3 scoreless, hitless innings.

Dorchies allowed seven runs with only three earned over his four innings in Thursday’s game.

Game four of the series is Friday night.  Wande Torres (8-5, 4.57) is the announced starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Jackson Humphries (1-6, 5.37) is the scheduled starter for the Captains.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The Shoreland League playoffs will come down to the final game after the Casco A's rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Denmark 5-4.

The A's took a 3-0 lead with one run in the first inning and two in the third inning behind a homer from Phillip Daniels and an error. The Devilbears did not go away quietly, getting single tallies in the fifth and sixth inning before taking the lead in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt and a bases loaded walk. With the season hanging in the balance, the A's took the lead back for good in the eighth inning thanks to RBI single by Owen Deprez and a Mitch Jandrin sacrifice fly. Noah Lindsley allowed the tying run on in the ninth, but retired the final two batters to earn the win and a winner-take-all game on Thursday.

Daniels and Casey Weddig each recorded two hits while Daniels, Deprez, and Jandrin were responsible for the RBI. Lindsley allowing no runs on one hit and a walk in 2.1 innings of relief for Colin Lacey, who allowed four runs (3 ER) on seven hits and six walks while striking out 10 during his 6.2 innings of work.

The championship series finale is set for Casco Village Park at 7:30 p.m.

The final Wednesday afternoon home game on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers schedule was a memorable one for two of their newest players in a 5-3 win over the Lake County Captains.  Brady Ebel, the first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025 playing his second game with Wisconsin, knocked in the tying run with his first hit as a Rattler. Sawyer Strosnider, Milwaukee’s second round pick in the 2026 draft, had a pair of RBI, including a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning.  The home run was his first as a professional and is going viral with an incredible family connection.

The Captains (60-52 overall, 23-25 second half) broke in front with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Josh Knoth, the Wisconsin starting pitcher, walked the lead-off batter on four pitches.  Chandler Welch relieved Knoth and gave up a single to Jefferey Mercedes and a bunt single to Tyler Howard to load the bases.  Welch issued a one-out walk to Garrett Howe to force in the first run of the game.  Tommy Hawke made it 2-0 with a two-out single to left.

The Rattlers responded in the bottom of the sixth.  Juan Baez drew a walk with two outs and Luiyin Alastre on first to extend the inning.  Blayberg Diaz singled to left to score Alastre.  Ebel tied the game with a single to left to score Baez.  Ebel made his Timber Rattlers debut on Tuesday with four walks in four plate appearances.

Strosnider and Eric Bitonti crushed back-to-back home runs to start the bottom of the seventh.  The fifth time Wisconsin has hit back-to-back homers.  Strosnider, who joined the Rattlers last week for the series at Cedar Rapids, drove a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right-center for his first professional home run.

The personal connection on the home run for Strosnider?  It was caught by his father, Scott Strosnider.

Then, Bitonti hit a titanic blast over the home run porch in right field on 2-0 pitch.  Bitonti’s bomb was historic.  It was his twentieth home run of the season and allowed him to be the second Timber Rattler to reach twenty homers and twenty stolen bases in a season.

Lake County loaded the bases against Bjorn Johnson with no outs in the top of the eighth.  Johnson got Victor Izturis to send a grounder to short.  Ebel tossed to Daniel Dickinson for the force play.  Dickinson had no play at first but threw behind the runner rounding third base for the second out of the inning.  A run scored but the rally was stopped in its tracks with Johnson getting the final out on a flyout to left.

Dickinson started a rally for an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a single and two stolen bases to get to third base with no outs.  Strosnider doubled down the first base line to score Dickinson for a 5-3 lead.

José Meneses pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth for his first save as a Rattler.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Ethan Dorchies (5-8, 5.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Harrison Bodendorf (0-2, 6.20) has been named the starter for the Captains.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Lake County Captains battled to a 3-3 tie through seven innings on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Captains scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth and held on to beat the Rattlers 4-3.

The first two Timber Rattlers to bat in the bottom of the first inning reached base.  Brady Ebel, the first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025, drew a walk in his first plate appearance as a Rattler.  Cooper Pratt, on a rehab assignment from the Brewers, followed with a single.  A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.  Eric Bitonti singled to right with two outs to score both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Rattlers starting pitcher Jacob Morrison walked Garrett Howe to start the third.  Tommy Hawke singled to center to move Howe to third with Howe advancing to second on the attempt to get Howe.  Morrison committed a balk to allow Howe to score but escaped the inning with the lead.

He was not as fortunate in the fourth.  Jeffery Mercedes singled to start the inning.  Cannon Peebles was next and he hit a home run to center to give the Captains a 3-2 lead.

Pratt stepped in with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning.  He tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Captains (60-51 overall, 23-24 second half) took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning.  Andrew Healy hit Juneiker Caceres with one out.  Then, Anthony Martinez doubled to put runners on second and third.  Luis De La Cruz flew out to left deep enough to score Caceres with the go-ahead run.

Ebel drew his fourth walk of the night with two outs in the seventh to bring Pratt to the plate.  The Captains elected to make a pitching change with Jogly Garcia replacing Nelson Keljo on the mound.  Pratt didn’t get a chance as Ebel was thrown out at second base for the final out of the inning.

Tyler Rodriguez doubled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth against Zane Petty to get the tying run into scoring position.  Petty got the final out on a flyout to center to snap Wisconsin’s three-game winning streak.

Pratt would leave the game after the top of the seventh.  He was officially 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI.

Healy set a new professional single-game high for strikeouts with seven over his four innings on Tuesday night.

Wisconsin (60-50, 26-22) went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Game two the series is Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Josh Knoth (4-3, 4.68) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Aidan Major (0-0, 4.50) is set to start for the Captains.  Game time is 12:10pm.

The Casco A's could not cash in on their opportunities and paid the price in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to Denmark in the first game of their best-of-three series to decide the Shoreland League playoff championship.

The Devilbears started and ended their victory with two-run rallies with Carter Stebane providing most of the offense, going 2-4 with two RBI.

The A's had five hits, drew four walks, and won the error battle 2-1, but came up empty for only the third time this year. Trevor Reinhardt led the A's with two hits while Kyle Routhieaux, Phillip Daniels, and Blake Robillard accounting for the others. Owen Deprez took the loss, allowing four runs (2 ER) on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Game 3 is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. as the series shifts to Casco VIllage Park.

The Green Bay Packers continue to tweak their roster to best fit their training camp needs and prepare for preseason matchups like Friday's tilt against the Denver Broncos.

The Packers and the Broncos kickoff on Friday at 8 p.m.

More student-athletes are heading back to school on Monday as their respective sports host their first practices of the season.

Monday marks the first day that girls and boys volleyball, boys and girls cross country, and boys soccer can practice. All of those sports can play in their first competitions as soon as August 25th.

Other sports can kick off competitions later this week. Girls swimming can start on August 19th while football can start on August 20th for both 8-player and 11-player.

Sister Bay will have a week off and short trips to the park the rest of the season after beating Egg Harbor 10-2 in the regular season finale. 

The Bays will now host the winner of Maplewood/Baileys Harbor on August 30th with a potential home championship game on September 6th.

West Jacksonport extended the league's season on Sunday with a 5-4 win over Baileys Harbor, which will now have to play Maplewood to make it into the playoffs.

Scoreless through three innings, the A's scored three runs across two innings before the Ports scratched out a run of their own in the fifth inning. The Ports flipped the game on its head in the seventh inning with a four-spot wih Drew Tanck and Frank de Young delivering run-scoring hits. The A's scored once in the top of the ninth and had the tying run on base before a ground out ended the game. 

For the Ports, Drew Tanck posted three hits while Riley Cordier and de Young each tallied two. Peyton Kuehn and de Young each recorded one RBI. CJ Goetz earned the win, striking out six across three scoreless innings while allowing one hit.

For the A's, Danny Lodl and Caleb Plzak each had two hits while Owen Dannhausen recorded the lone RBI. Aaron Brey took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs (1 ER) on eight hits and three walks while striking out one.

The A's will now have to travel to Maplewood on August 23rd to try to capture the fourth-seed.

The Maplewood Mets' season is not done yet after demolishing Institute 21-1 on Sunday.

The Mets did not waste time to make their case for the fourth-seed in the Door County League playoffs. They score two runs in the first and fourth innings with a single tally in between to make it 5-0. The Mets doubled their lead in the fifth inning with five runs and nearly did it again with eight runs in the sixth inning, capped off by a three-run homer by Tory Jandrin. They tacked on three more runs before the Cubs made their last stand in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Tommy Junion sacrifice fly that brought home Nick Peterson. 

The Mets outhit the Cubs 21-4 and took advantage of four errors. Adam Gutschow had four hits and four RBI to lead the Mets while Mason Paye also had four hits and Kody Kissinger, Jaden Diller, and Will Jandrin recorded three. Diller also drove in four runs while Kissinger (2), Tory Jandrin (3), and Paye (2) had multi-RBI games as well. Diller, Kissinger, and Tory Jandrin all homered in the game. Tory Jandrin earned the win on the mound, shutting out the Cubs over five innings while allowing three hits and three walks and striking out three.

For the Cubs, Caleb Hoffman, Juston Williams, Siggy Hansen, and Quin Scram accounted for the team's lone hits on the day. Williams took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (6 ER) on 11 hits and three walks while striking out two.

The Mets will now play Baileys Harbor in Maplewood in a play-in game for the fourth seed. The winner would travel to first-place Sister Bay for the official start of the playoffs on August 30th. 

The Shoreland League is down to its final week of the season with Casco and Denmark playing its championship series beginning on Monday.

The A's swept Ashwaubenon to earn their place in the championship series after winning the regular season crown. The A's only needed seven innings to end the Lookouts' season thanks to crooked numbers in three of the innings of a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. Owen Deprez paced the team with a 3-for-4, 1 RBI performance while Trevor Reinhardt went 2-4 with three RBI. Reinhardt and Kordell Draves each had two hits for the A's. Deprez pitched seven shutout innings, limited the Lookouts to three hits and two walks while striking out eight. 

The Devilbears earned their spot in the series by taking its winner-take-all game against Kewaunee last Thursday 10-0. The Devilbears jumped on pitcher Brett Paulsen early, scoring three runs in the first inning courtesy of a two-run single by Rheis Johnson that was preceded by a wild pitch that also allowed a run. The game was put out of reach in the fifth inning when the Devilbears tallied six more runs before they put the game on ice with one more run in the sixth. The game ended after a scoreless seventh inning.

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. in Denmark. The series will shift to Casco Wednesday and Thursday for 7:30 p.m. start times.

The Green Bay Blizzard come home from Tuscon, Arizona for the second year in a row empty handed after losing to the Arizona Rattlers 62-51 in the IFL National Championship game. 

The Blizzard held onto a slim lead for much of the first half, scoring the game's first nine points and IFL MVP Liam Thompson throwing a pair of touchdown. A touchdown thrown by former Blizzard quarterback Max Meylor tied the game 23-23 at halftime. The game would get tied up at again at 32 and 39 before a 47-yard kickoff swung the momentum in favor of the hometown Rattlers the rest of the evening, eventually sending the Blizzard to their second straight championship game loss.

Thompson threw for 116 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 106 yards and a score to prove his MVP credentials. Trevon Alexander grabbed five balls for 51 yards and two scores through the air. 

The Blizzard end the season 15-4 on the season with all four losses coming away from Resch Center.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers finished their two-week road trip with a 5-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Wisconsin scored all five of their runs after two outs and Jayden Dubanewicz worked five shutout innings to get the win.

Cedar Rapids (44-68 overall, 13-35 second half) lost their starting pitcher on the third batter of the game.  Kolten Smith was tended to three times on the mound during the inning left due to illness with an 0-2 count on Daniel Dickinson, the Rattlers third batter of the game.  Ivran Romero took over on the mound and retired Dickinson on one pitch.

Wisconsin (60-49, 26-21) had two outs with none on in the top of the third inning against Romero.  The offense started to click with four consecutive singles to plate two runs.  Luis Peña and Sawyer Strosnider started the rally with singles.  Dickinson followed with a single to knock in Peña and get Strosnider to third.  Eric Bitonti was next and he ripped a single to right to score Strosnider for a 2-0 lead to knock Romero out of the game.

Yeizhon Sanchez, the Kernels third pitcher of the game, got the final out of the third, pitched a scoreless fourth, and got the first two outs of the fifth.  Then, the Rattlers staged another two-out rally in the fifth.  Dickinson and Bitonti drew walks to keep the inning alive.  Luis Castillo and Tayden Hall delivered consecutive RBI singles for a 4-0 lead. 

Dubanewicz, the Wisconsin starting pitcher, had a big bounce back outing on Sunday.  In game one of the series on August 11, Dubanewicz gave up five runs in three innings to be tagged with the loss.  In the series finale, Dubanewicz tossed five scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out three.

Wisconsin missed some chances to extend their lead.  They loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh against Mike McKenna but failed to score.  Position player Quinn McDaniel took over in the eighth inning and walked the first three Rattlers he faced before escaping the inning.

Cedar Rapids had something going against José Nova in the bottom of the eighth when Nova hit a batter and gave up a single to the first two Kernels he faced.  Nova regrouped and got a strikeout and a double play to maintain the 4-0 lead.

Luiyin Alastre added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with another two-out, RBI single to scored Castillo.

Danny DeAndrade homered to start the Cedar Rapids ninth inning against Michael Fowler.  McDaniel followed with a double.  Fowler struck out the next three batters to close out the game and Wisconsin’s third win in a row.

Wisconsin wrapped their twelve-game road trip with a 7-5 record.  They went 4-2 in a series at Beloit and split their six-game series with the Kernels.  The Rattlers will enter the final three weeks of the season 2-1/2 games behind the Quad Cities River Bandits and Beloit Sky Carp.  Quad Cities is percentage points ahead of the Sky Carp after Sunday’s action was completed.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday night in game one of a twelve-game homestand at Neuroscience Group Field.  The opponents on Tuesday are the Lake County Captains with Jacob Morrison (1-1, 4.15) as the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The playoff picture can get a major shake-up on Sunday with all eight teams in action, including the 105.1 The GOAT Game of the Week when Baileys Harbor travels to West jacksonport.

Baileys Harbor is holding onto the final spot in the playoffs after demolishing Institute 18-0 in eight innings last Friday. Aaron Brey led the way with four hits and seven RBI while Ethan Kratcha and Caleb Plzak had three hits and OwenDannhausen, Danny Lodl, and River Pawelski all had two hits. Dannhausen and Plzak each drove in three runs while Kratcha knocked in a pair. Brey did not need much help on the mound as he went 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 15. They play at West Jacksonport, which is coming off a 7-4 loss to Egg Harbor. For the Ports, Woody Schartner went 3-3 and an RBI while Cordier drove in three runs.  Gary Barta will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 1:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 1:30 p.m.

An A's loss could open the door for Maplewood, which is one-game behind Baileys Harbor in the standings after tipping Washington Island 8-7 in 11 innings last Sunday. The Mets overcame six errors thanks to three-hit, one RBI performances from Nolan Wagner and Jaden Diller while Gavin Brady and Kordell Draves each had two hits. Tory Jandrin got the win, allowing three runs (2 ER) on five hits and a walk while recording a strikeout across five innings of work. Institute would love to play spoiler as they look their first win of the season. Caleb Hoffman had two hits while Nick Peterson and Robbie Pollman tallied the other two in 18-0 loss to Baileys Harbor in their last game. Siggy Hansen struggled as he allowed 18 runs (18 ER) on 18 hits and 14 walks while striking out in a complete-game effort.

Sister Bay topped Kolberg 3-2 on the road last weekend to move into sole possession of first place. Tom Sawyer had two of the team's six hits to go along with two walks. Sam Forkert and Sawyer Johnson also got hits. Forkert got the win, allowing two runs (2 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out six across eight innings. Matt Hecht picked up the save. The Indians could play spoiler for a second weekend in a row after officially dashing West Jacksonport's hopes with a 7-4 victory. Drew Price has three hits while Brady Kita and Drake Olson had two hit games. Nick Kita drove in three runs while Price drove in a pair. Price got the win on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six.

A battle for a home playoff game will be in Kolberg when Washington Island travels the length of the peninsula to face the Braves. The Braves' Nick LeCaptain went 2-4 with an RBI to lead the team. Trevor Reinhardt took the loss, allowing three runs (2 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings.  The Islanders fought back from an early deficit, but fell to Maplewood 8-7 in 11 innings. Caleb Cornell, Luke Geiger, Ray McDonald, Cam Munao, and Alex Johnson all had two-hit performances with McDonald (2) and the Geigers (1 each) recording the RBI. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger took the loss, allowing six runs (6 ER) on 10 hits and five walks while striking out one across six innings.

All four games begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Green Bay Blizzard are hoping for a different conclusion to their 2026 season on Sunday when they face the hometown Arizona Rattlers in the IFL National Championship game in Tucson.

The Blizzard needed more than 60 minutes to clinch their second straight trip to the IFL National Championship game on Sunday, beating the Tulsa Oilers 67-60 in overtime. After Andrew Mevis forced overtime with a 14-yard field goal, Liam Thompson found Isaac Ross for a four-yard touchdown for what ended up being the game-winning score. Thompson ended the game with 232 and seven touchdowns through the air as he completed 20 passes to go along with his 61 rushing yards. Trevon Alexander was his top target with seven grabs for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Draysean Hudson made the most out of his two receptions as they both went for touchdowns.

The Blizzard will travel to Tucson to battle the Rattlers, who beat the San Diego Strike Force 43-37 to secure their spot in the IFL National Championship in front of its home crowd. It is the second straight appearance in the title game for the Blizzard, which lost to the Vegas Night Hawks 64-61 in Tucson last season.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

The public can see the Green Bay Packers practice for the first time on Sunday following their preseason tilt with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Packers showed that they have plenty to work on still after its 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. Trey Smack drilled three field goals and one other that was negated by a penalty to give fans hope after a rough start to his camp. Of his four kicks that went through the uprights, two of them were from 58 yards out. Jordan Love's night ended after the first drive, going 3-5 for 18 yards as he led the Packers to an opening drive field goal. Backup Kyle McCord opened eyes in relief of Love and Tyrod Taylor, throwing for 102 yards on 12 completions. Isaiah Neyor led the Packers in receiving with four grabs for 34 yards while Damien Martinez led the team in rushing with 20 yards on eight carries. 

Sunday's practice is one of the last four opportunities fans can see the Packers' progress themselves before the regular season begins. Tuesday's practice before the Packers play in Denver against Broncos in addition to next Monday and Wednesday's sessions ahead of the home preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals. Next Wednesday's practice will be a joint practice with the Cardinals.

All four practices begin at 10:30 a.m.

Ethan Dorchies played the stopper of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitching staff on Friday Night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The right-hander struck out nine over 6-2/3 scoreless innings, walked one, and allowed just four singles to earn the win the Rattlers 6-0 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels.  He was backed up offensively by some timely hitting by the offense, including a big night from the newest Timber Rattler outfielder.  The win snapped Wisconsin’s three-game losing streak and pulled them back to within two games of the second-half West Division playoff spot with twenty games left in the season.

Wisconsin (58-49 overall, 24-21 second half) took the lead in the top of the third, the first time they scored first in this series.  Sawyer Strosnider singled to start the inning.  Luis Castillo drew a two-out walk to extend the inning.  Tayden Hall singled to right to score Strosnider for a 1-0 lead.

Strosnider started another Wisconsin rally in the fifth with a lead-off double.  Daniel Dickinson followed with a double to score Strosnider.  Hall made it 3-0 with an RBI grounder later in the inning.

Hall is the latest Rattler to reach the fifty-RBI mark this season.  His two on Friday night pushed his total to 51 in 2026.

Dorchies dealt against the Kernels (44-66, 13-33).  He matched his professional single-game high for strikeouts with nine, including four in a row to get the last two batters of the sixth inning and the first two batters of the seventh.  Dorchies walked Jayson Bass on a 3-2 pitch in the seventh to end his night.  He made 90 pitches with 56 strikes.

Chandler Welch took over and got the final out of the seventh.

The Rattlers offense provided an additional cushion with a two-out rally in their half of the eighth inning.  Blayberg Diaz reached on an error, Luis Peña reached on a dropped third strike, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.  Strosnider singled to right to drive in both runners.

Dickinson provided the final run of the rally with a double to left-center.   His second run-scoring double of the night gave him his 23rd multi-hit game and his tenth multi-RBI game of the season.

Welch pitched a scoreless eighth and José Meneses worked a scoreless ninth to close out the win for Wisconsin.

Strosnider, the second round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2026 draft, has hit the ground running since making his pro debut with the Rattlers on Tuesday for game of this series.  He was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI, and three runs scored on Friday.  He has at least one hit in all four of his games with the Rattlers and is 7-for-18 (.389) with four RBI.  Friday was also his first start in center field after the promotion of Braylon Payne to Biloxi, the Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Brewers, earlier in the day.

In the playoff push, the Rattlers have a new team to try to chase down.  The Quad Cities River Bandits staged a late comeback for a 5-4, walkoff win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps at home on Friday.  Quad Cities has overtaken Beloit Sky Carp, who were idle on Friday after their game at Peoria was postponed by poor field conditions at Dozer Park.  Quad Cities at 25-18 is .003 percentage points ahead of 26-19 Beloit.  The Rattlers, who have twenty games left in the season, are two game behind both teams.  Quad Cities and Beloit both play a doubleheader on Saturday night.

Game five of the series is set for Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Wande Torres (7-5, 4.62) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cesar Lares (0-5, 3.00) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm. 

Of the 20 players named to the 2026 All-Shoreland League team, only seven come from teams outside of Kewaunee County.

Casco, Kewaunee, and Algoma were well represented on this year's All-Shoreland League team, including sweeps of the pitcher, catcher, and manager categories. The A's led the way with six selections as Owen Deprez earned honors for pitcher and outfielder. 

Deprez was named the league's MVP while his teammate Noah Lindsley earned pitcher of the year honors. 

The Shoreland League season ends next week when Casco and Denmark meet in the championship series.

The Kewaunee Chiefs could not get the bats going in what proved to be their final game of the season on Thursday, falling to Denmark 10-0 in the Shoreland League Playoffs.

Casco will try to avenge their fellow Kewaunee County squad next week and the Shoreland League Championship gets underway.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels used two pitchers for a three-hit, 4-0 shutout of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Cedar Rapids scored all four of their runs with two outs as they won for the fifth time in six games.

Kernels starting pitcher Adrian Bohorquez allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out four over five innings.  He was helped out by a pair of double plays that stopped Wisconsin rallies in their tracks.  Bohorquez faced one over the minimum for his five frames.
 

Rattlers starter Josh Knoth had to work around a runner at second with no outs in the bottom of the fourth after Yasser Mercedes drew a lead-off walk and stole second.  Knoth managed to keep Mercedes at second on a flyout to shallow right, a strikeout, and a grounder to third.

Cedar Rapids (44-65 overall, 13-32 second half) broke the ice in the bottom of the fifth.  Knoth attempted to get out of another runner at second with no outs jam after a lead-off double by Quinn McDaniel.  He almost got there.  Knoth retired the next two batters and needed to get through Byron Chourio, cousin of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio.

The count was 2-2 and Chourio fouled off two pitches.  He singled to center the seventh pitch of the at bat,  Braylon Payne fielded the ball on one hop and thew to the plate.  The throw was a little off line to allow McDaniel to score the first run of the game.  Chourio beat the throw to second by catcher Yannic Walther.  Jacob McCombs followed with another single to drive in Chourio for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (57-49, 23-21) also struggled against Kernels reliever Michael Ross, who retired the first nine Rattlers he faced.

The Kernels added two more runs with two outs in the eighth inning.  Reliever Tanner Perry gave up a lead-off single and stolen base to McCombs before picking him off second for the first out.  Yasser Mercedes doubled off the wall in left and went to third on a flyball to right.  Perry walked the next two batters on 3-2 pitches to load the bases.  McDaniel singled to right to score two runs and the Kernels were up 4-0.

Juan Baez and Walther had back-to-back singles in the top of the ninth for Wisconsin against Ross.  Ross got the final three outs on a force play at second, a strikeout, and a grounder to short for his first save.

The Rattlers have dropped three straight to the Kernels.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Ethan Dorchies (4-8, 5.40) is the announced starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Justin Mitrovich (2-0, 2.41) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm.

The Green Bay Packers will face their first opponent of the 2026 season as they play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. 

The Packers are coming off of a NFC North runner-up 9-7-1 campaign that ended in the playoffs against the Chicago Bears while the Steelers had their own first-round exit against the Houston Texans after finishing 10-7 atop the AFC North standings.

Packers radio voice Wayne Larrivee expected light work for both teams' starters in PIttsburgh when he spoke to the NEW Radio Sports Network at Monday's Door County Celebrity Golf Outing in Egg Harbor on Monday.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

For the third consecutive year, the Casco A's can get some extra hardware for the trophy case after clinching a berth in the championship series with a 10-0 win over Ashwaubenon. 

The A's only needed seven innings to end the Lookouts' season thanks to crooked numbers in three of the innings. A five-run second inning run scoring hits from Colin Lacey, Owen Deprez, and Trevor Reinhardt helped the A's jump out to a comfortable lead. Two-run efforts in the fourth and sixth innings helped the game reach an early conclusion. Those innings included back-to-back jacks from Phillip Daniels and Reinhardt in the fourth inning and a two-run homer from Kyle Routhieaux in the sixth to put the game on ice. 

Deprez paced the team with a 3-for-4, 1 RBI performance while Reinhardt went 2-4 with three RBI. Reinhardt and Kordell Draves each had two hits for the A's. Deprez pitched seven shutout innings, limited the Lookouts to three hits and two walks while striking out eight. 

The A's will now wait for the winner of Kewaunee/Denmark for the championship series.

The season will stay on the brink for another night after the Kewaunee Chiefs forced a third game in their series with the Denmark Devilbears after beating them 10-5 on Wednesday.

Scoreless through two innings, the bats came alive for both teams in the third inning with the Devilbears jumping out to a 3-2 lead. The difference came in the fourth inning for the Chiefs, which scored five runs in the frame thanks in part to some Devilbears mistakes and a two-run single by Reese Berg. After allowing another run in the sixth inning, the Chiefs tacked on three more runs in the seventh on three consecutive singles from Lincoln Barta, Conor Kilgore, and Brett Paulsen. A ninth inning run allowed proved to be harmless as the Chiefs forced a winner-take-all game on Thursday at home at 7:30 p.m.

Paulsen, Berg, and Kilgore all had two hits while Berg led the team with four RBI. Cale Beckman earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs (3 ER) on nine hits and one walk while striking out nine across 5.1 innings.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not hold on to three late leads against the Cedar Rapids Kernels Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The Rattlers dropped a 6-5, thirteen-inning marathon to the Kernels, who scored twice in the bottom of the thirteenth for their fourth win in five games.

Cedar Rapids (43-65 overall, 12-32 second half) grabbed the early advantage as they took advantage of a lead-off walk on four pitches from Rattlers starter Andrew Healy to jumpstart a two-run rally in the third.  Andy Lugo walked and stole second.  Jacob McCombs singled to right to score Lugo.  Eduardo Tait followed with a deep double to right-center to send McCombs home for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (57-48, 23-20) was shut down for six innings by Kernels starting pitcher Reed Moring once he got through a couple of early rough patches.  The Rattlers had runners at first and second with one out in the second and Moring got an inning ending-double play.  In the third, the Rattlers loaded the bases with two outs before Moring got the final out of that frame.  Moring retired the final ten Wisconsin hitters he faced in the game as he turned a 2-0 lead over to the Kernels bullpen.

Cleiber Maldonado was out to face the Rattlers in the top of the seventh and was immediately in trouble after a lead-off walk to Luis Castillo and a single by Tayden Hall.  Luiyin Alastre drove in Castillo with a single to center for Wisconsin’s first run of the game.  Luis Peña tied the game with another single to center to score Hall from second base and send Alastre to third.

Sawyer Strosnider had the infield in with runners at second and third after Peña stole second.  Strosnider hit a high chopper over the mound leaving shortstop Jose Salas’s only choice as the play at first and Alastre scored the go-ahead run.

Jacob Morrison, the Rattlers first reliever, pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, but got in trouble in the eighth.  He walked McCombs to start the inning.  McCombs stole second to get into scoring position.  Tait drove in McCombs with a single.

The game remained tied until the top of the twelfth.  Blayberg Diaz had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the tenth after starting catcher Edgardo Ord?ñez was removed for a pinch-runner in the top of the tenth.  Diaz stepped in with the placed runner still at second with two outs in the twelfth.  He hit a deep fly to left that just missed going out.  The ball hit the top of the wall for an RBI double and a 4-3 lead.

Luis Peña was next and he cracked a deep fly to about the same spot.  However, the ball did not carry and died at the wall for the final out of the inning.

Michael Fowler, the third Rattler pitcher, had worked a scoreless eleventh and went back out for the twelfth.  A weak grounder up the middle allowed the placed runner for the Kernels to take third base.  Fowler walked Ricardo Pena to bring McCombs back to the plate.  Fowler got a grounder near second off the bat of McCombs.  Daniel Dickinson flipped to Alastre for the forceout on pinch-runner Byron Chourio.  However, Alastre’s throw to first was wild to allow the placed runner to score the tying run.

Strosnider singled on the second pitch of the Wisconsin thirteenth to drive Peña home for another lead.

José Nova was tasked with getting the final three outs in the bottom of the thirteenth.  He nearly got two on one pitch.  Tait was the placed runners at second for Cedar Rapids.  Yasser Mercedes hit a liner heading down the line in left.  Third baseman Eric Bitonti made a leaping grab for the out and fired to second trying to double Tait off the base.  It was a close play with Tait ruled safe to keep him on base.  McDaniel singled on the next pitch and Tait raced for home with the tying run.

Nova got ahead of Salas with two quick strikes.  Salas fouled off the next pitch.  He hit the fourth pitch of the at bat to right-center.  Strosnider tracked the ball to the gap but just missed making the catch.  McDaniel raced home to score the winning run on the double by Salas.

Healy, in his Timber Rattlers debut, and Morrison both pitched five innings on Wednesday for the Rattlers.  Healy allowed two runs on five hits, walked one, and struck out four.  Morrison allowed one run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Both teams struggled with runners in scoring position.  Wisconsin was 4-for-18 as they left nine runners on base and hit into three double plays.  Cedar Rapids was 3-for-23 with runners in scoring position as they left eleven on base.

The game was scheduled to start at 12:05.  However, persistent rain from early morning until early afternoon delayed the start of the contest by 122 minutes.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Josh Knoth (4-2, 4.85) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Adrian Bohorquez (0-0, 5.34) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels hit a pair of early home runs to grab an early lead on their way to a 6-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.   There were five homers in the game to account for all the scoring with Cedar Rapids coming out on top in game one of the six-game series.

The Kernels (42-65 overall, 11-32 second half) scored three runs on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the first.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Jayden Dubanewicz hit the leadoff batter on an 0-2 pitch and gave up a one-out single to Eduardo Tait on another 0-2 pitch.  Then, Jose Salas hit a two-out, three-run home run to right on an 0-1 offering for the early 3-0 lead for the Kernels.

Jayson Bass added to the Cedar Rapids lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to put the Rattlers down 5-0.

Wisconsin (57-47, 23-18) also used the long ball to get on the scoreboard.  Luis Castillo drilled a two-run home run down the line in right with one out in the fourth inning.  Castillo’s homer was his sixteenth of the season.

Daniel Dickinson added another home run when the Rattlers second baseman lined a no-doubt line drive over the wall in left to bring the Rattlers to within 5-3.

Tait, the Kernels catcher, got that run back for Cedar Rapids with a long home run to right to lead off the bottom of the fifth against Yerlin Rodriguez.  Tait has twenty homers this season.

Wisconsin had chances to get back in the game.  Tayden Hall doubled with one out in the sixth but was thrown out at third on a stolen base attempt. 

Sawyer Strosnider, the second round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2026 draft, made his professional debut with the Timber Rattlers as the starting right fielder on Tuesday night.  He picked up his first pro hit on a one-out triple to left in the seventh.  Strosnider was left stranded.

Eric Bitonti, who was left stranded at third in the second inning, was on base three times with a double and two walks.

Relievers Bjorn Johnson and José Meneses kept the Rattlers in the game as they combined for three scoreless innings.  Johnson pitched two perfect frames with four strikeouts.  Meneses allowed a hit and struck out two in the eighth.

Wisconsin lost ground to the two team in front of them in the second half playoff chase.  Division-leading Beloit won 7-6 in ten innings at Peoria.  Second place Quad Cities rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Fort Wayne 5-4.  Beloit leads Quad Cities by 1-1/2 games and the Timber Rattlers by 2-1/2 games with 23 games remaining in the regular season.

Game two of the series at Veterans Memorial Stadium is Wednesday afternoon.  Andrew Healy is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers as he makes his Midwest League debut.  The Kernels have named Reed Moring (1-1, 9.00) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 12:05pm.

After posting mixed results in Brown County on Monday, the Shoreland League's two Kewaunee County entries in the playoffs hope for a clean sweep on Wednesday.

Colin Lacey pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (3 ER) on seven hits and three walks while striking out 14. 

The Kewaunee Chiefs will try to stave off elimination in their return home to Memorial Field after being shutout 8-0 by the Denmark Devilbears. The Chiefs could not get a hit and made four errors to add insult to the injury as Joe Anderson took the loss, allowing four runs (1 ER) on four hits and four walks while striking out seven.

First pitch at both parks are set for 7:30 p.m.

The Kewaunee Chiefs could not get a hit and made four errors to add insult to the injury of an 8-0 loss to Denmark to open the Shoreland League Playoffs on Monday.

Despite the lack of offense, the game was tied until the fourth inning when the Devilbears pushed across four runs, including a bases clearing double by Jacob Kleeman. The Devilbears added two runs in the sixth and eighth innings to easily handle the Chiefs in game one of their best-of-three series.

Joe Anderson took the loss, allowing four runs (1 ER) on four hits and four walks while striking out seven.

The series shifts to Kewaunee on Wednesday.

The Casco A's took a 1-0 series lead on the Ashwaubenon Lookouts on Monday with an 8-3 victory.

The Lookouts carried a slim 1-0 lead until the third inning when the A's scored three times with Owen Deprez and Trevor Reinhardt providing the RBI knocks. The A's extended their lead again in the sixth inning with Mitch Jandrin's two-run double kicking off the rally. Both teams scored two times in the ninth inning to cap off the scoring.

Jandrin, Deprez, Reinhardt, Kyle Routhieaux, and Philip Daniels all had two hits for the A's, with Deprez (3) and Jandrin (2) posting multi-RBI games. Colin Lacey pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (3 ER) on seven hits and three walks while striking out 14. 

The series moves to Casco on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.

The Maplewood Mets needed a few extra innings to leave their mark on the Door County Baseball League playoff chase, beating Washington Island 8-7 in 11 innings on Sunday.

The two teams traded single runs through the first five inning before the Mets scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning. That rally was highlighted by RBI singles from Kody Kissinger, Gavin Brady, and Jaden Diller. The Islanders chipped away at that deficit with single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings before sending the game into extra courtesy of back-to-back run scoring singles from Luke Geiger and Ray McDonald. After scoreless 10th, Kordell Draves broke the tie with an RBI single that drove in Diller from second base. The Islanders went down in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the upset win for the Mets.

The Mets overcame six errors thanks to three-hit, one RBI performances from Noah Wagner and DIller while Brady and Draves each had two hits. Tory Jandrin got the win, allowing three runs (2 ER) on five hits and a walk while recording a strikeout across five innings of work. 

For the Islanders, Caleb Cornell, Luke Geiger, McDonald, Cam Munao, and Alex Johnson all had two-hit performances with McDonald (2) and the Geigers (1 each) recording the RBI. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger took the loss, allowing six runs (6 ER) on 10 hits and five walks while striking out one across six innings.

A battle for first place in the Door County Baseball League was as advertised on Sunday afternoon with Sister Bay slipping past Kolberg.

Solo shots provided the offense through the first seven innings with the Bays' Spencer Krause answering the Braves' Trevor Reinhardt in the sixth inning after Kolberg took the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tom Sawyer gave the Bays the lead with a home run in the eighth inning before Griffin Cole added an important insurance run a few batters later when he reached on a single, triggering an error that allowed Stew Larsen to score. Nick LeCaptain drove in Tyler Neinas to make it 3-2, but the Braves would get no closer as Devin Schinktgen flew out to end the threat in the eighth. Both teams threatened to score in the ninth, but it was a ground out off the bat of Austin Rohe that ended the game and propelled the Bays to first place.

For the Bays, Sawyer had two of the team's six hits to go along with two walks. Sam Forkert and Sawyer Johnson also got hits. Forkert got the win, allowing two runs (2 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out six across eight innings. Matt Hecht picked up the save.

For the Braves, LeCaptain went 2-4 with an RBI to lead the team. Reinhardt took the loss, allowing three runs (2 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings.  

The Green Bay Blizzard needed more than 60 minutes to clinch their second straight trip to the IFL National Championship game on Sunday, beating the Tulsa Oilers 67-60 in overtime.

The Blizzard and Oilers traded scores all night long with no team ever holding a lead larger than the final seven point margin. After Andrew Mevis forced overtime with a 14-yard field goal, Liam Thompson found Isaac Ross for a four-yard touchdown for what ended up being the game-winning score. In the Oilers' possession, TJ Edwards II came up just a few yards short of the sticks to extend a drive on 4th and 10, leading to mass hysteria on the field as the Blizzard secured their spot in the title game.

Thompson ended the game with 232 and seven touchdowns through the air as he completed 20 passes to go along with his 61 rushing yards. Trevon Alexander was his top target with seven grabs for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Draysean Hudson made the most out of his two receptions as they both went for touchdowns.

The Blizzard will travel to Tucson to battle the Arizona Rattlers, who beat the San Diego Strike Force 43-37 to secure their spot in the IFL National Championship in front of its home crowd.

After the area's football teams were able to hit the gridiron last week, another batch of high school athletes are now officially in season. 

The WIAA's girls' tennis and girls' golf seasons officially open on Monday with their first practices. Girls' swimming will have an extra day of summer before they start their practices on Tuesday.

There are no area tennis teams, but Luxemburg-Casco girls golf will get underway on Thursday at River Island GC when they join Bonduel, Denmark, Marinette and Oconto Falls for a 9 a.m. tee time. The Door County United swim team will kick off their season next week.

The Green Bay Packers will finally get to hit people with different jerseys on this week as training camp begins its second full week. 

After having a closed session on Sunday, the Packers will have two public practices on Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Pittsburgh on Wednesday for their Thursday night game against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The organization made four moves on Sunday,  signing WR Kisean Johnson and waiving S Johnathan Baldwin II and CB Marlon Jones. According to Packers.com, Johnson is a first-year player who spent four seasons at Alabama State (2020-23) and one season at Western Kentucky (2024). He returns to the Packers after spending some time on the practice squad during the 2025 postseason.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers needed a win on Sunday for a series victory over the Beloit Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium.  The Rattlers got the win behind solid pitching and a big offensive inning to defeat the Sky Carp 9-2.

Edgardo Ord?ñez drove a double up the first base line with two on and two out in the top of the second to knock in two runs for Wisconsin (57-46 overall, 23-18 second half) to take a 2-0 lead.  Ord?ñez had been 1-for-13 as a Rattler since joining the team before that big hit.  He would finish the day 2-for-4 with a walk and a well-called game as the starting catcher.

Daniel Dickinson made it 3-0 with a one-out, solo home run in the top of the third.

Beloit (52-55, 25-17) got on the scoreboard with their first hit off Wisconsin starting pitcher Daniel Corniel.  Jacob Jenkins-Cowart hit a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the third to cut into the Wisconsin lead.

The Sky Carp’s second hit of the game was a triple by Wilfredo Lara to start the bottom of the fifth.  Chase Jaworsky drove in Lara with a ground out to second.

The Timber Rattlers bats stepped on the gas in the top of the sixth with five runs to give the pitchers some breathing room.  Tayden Hall launched a lead-off homer to right, his eleventh home run of the season with the Rattlers.  Luis Peña stepped to the plate with runners at first and second and drove an RBI single to right.  Later in the inning, Dickinson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run.  Eric Bitonti added a run with a sacrifice fly.  Braylon Payne scored the final run of the inning when he raced home from third on a wild pitch.

Corniel left after an efficient five innings of work.  He allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out one while needing just 53 pitches.  That put him in line for his first Midwest League win.
 

Wande Torres took over for the bottom of the sixth inning.  He allowed hits to the first two batters he faced before getting a strikeout and a double play to shut down the Beloit scoring threat.  Torres, who earned the win in game one of the series on August 4 with seven solid innings, struck out five in three scoreless innings in the series finale.

Dickinson added another RBI with a two-out, run-scoring single in the top of the eighth.  Dickinson was on base five times on Sunday with two hits, two walks, and a hit batsman.  He knocked in three runs and scored one.  Sunday was Dickinson’s 22nd multi-hit game.

Michael Fowler closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning.

The Timber Rattlers won four of the six games in the series at Beloit.  They have pulled back to within 1-1/2 games of the Sky Carp for the second half West Division playoff spot with 24 games remaining on their schedule.

The Timber Rattler are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday for the start of the second leg of their two-week road trip.  Wisconsin will play the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium starting at 6:35pm on Tuesday.

While the Shoreland League playoffs are technically a week old, Casco and Kewaunee will play their first games on Monday as their quest for a playoff championship begins.

The Casco A's will welcome the Lookouts while the Kewaunee Chiefs will host the Denmark Devil Bears. Both series begin on Monday at 7:30 p.m. with additional games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The A's beat the Lookouts 7-0 and 4-2 during the regular season while the Chiefs swept the Devil Bears with victories of 5-4 and 5-3. 

Egg Harbor did not let a three-run West Jacksonport comeback phase them as they scored four unanswered runs to win the game 7-4 on Sunday. 

Back to back doubles by Brady Kita and Anthony Jennerjohn got the Indians on the scoreboard in the first inning before Drew Price helped his cause in the third inning with a two-RBI double in the third to make it 3-0. The Ports made their comeback in the bottom of the third inning with four hits as Woody Schartner's RBI double and Riley Cordier's two-RBI single made it 3-3. 

Price settled down after that inning, sitting down 12 of the next 13 batters while he let the offense settle things. A wild pitch with Nick Kita up to bat let his brother Brady score to give them a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning before he tacked on two more runs in sixth with a single to make it 6-3. The Indians ended their scoring in the seventh inning with a two-out RBI double by Brady Kita while the Ports' last hurrah came in the eighth inning on a Cordier pop out.

For the Indians. Price has three hits while Brady Kita and Drake Olson had two hit games. Nick Kita drove in three runs while Price drove in a pair. Price got the win on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six.

For the Ports, Woody Schartner went 3-3 and an RBI while Cordier drove in three runs. 

The other scores saw Sister Bay take sole possession of first place with a 3-2 win over Kolberg while Washington Island slipped to third place with an 8-7 loss to Maplewood heading into the final weekend of play. The Islanders will try to slip into second place with a matchup next Sunday against Kolberg while Sister Bay visits Egg Harbor, West Jacksonport hosts Baileys Harbor and Institute welcomes Maplewood. 

A fourth-inning lead did not stand as the Green Bay Rockers saw their season end on Saturday get swept by the Madison Mallards with a 4-3 loss.

The Mallards scored twice in the third inning only to have the Rockers answer with three runs in the fourth inning, two of which came on a home run by Brayden Pleau. The score stayed that way until the sixth inning when the Mallards plated two runs on solo shots from Aiden Arnett and Davis Hamilton.

Pleau led the offensive attack with two hits and two RBI while Boone Kirst also recorded two hits. Skyler Sievert took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (4 ER) on five hits and five walks with one strike out across seven innings of work.

The Rockers end their season with a 39-30 record, which was good for fourth place in the Great Lakes Division. The Rockers finished 5.5 games out during the first half of the season and 3.5 games out in the second half to miss out on the playoffs a year after winning the Northwoods League.

Braylon Payne stands alone.  The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers centerfielder cracked his 23rd home run of the season on Saturday night at ABC Supply Stadium to set the team’s single season home run record.  The homer was not enough for the Timber Rattlers to overcome a 6-0 deficit as they fell 8-5 to the Sky Carp.

Beloit (52-54 overall, 25-16 second half) scored twice with two outs in the bottom of the first.  Dillon Head doubled to start the inning.  He was still at second with two outs when Cody Schrier doubled to left to knock in Head.  Jesús Hernandez followed with an RBI single.

Chase Jaworsky added to the Sky Carp lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second.

Head singled to left with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth to drive in Beloit’s fourth run of the game.  Rattlers starting pitcher Ethan Dorchies escaped further damage by getting an inning-ending 3-6-3 double play.
 

Max Williams hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, his second homer in as many games for the Sky Carp.  Abrahan Ramirez singled with two outs, stole second, and scored on another single by Jaworsky.
 

Wisconsin (56-46, 22-18) got to Beloit starting pitcher Carson Laws in the sixth inning.  The frame started with a single by Payne and a double by Daniel Dickinson.  Eric Bitonti hit a deep fly to the wall in center that sent Payne home and got Dickinson to third.  Luis Castillo followed with a deep fly to right to score Dickinson.

Tayden Hall and Tyler Rodriguez restarted the rally with back-to-back singles.  Juan Baez chased both runners home and Laws from the game with a double to right.

Peyton Fosher took over for Laws to face Luiyin Alastre with a 6-4 lead.  Alastre hit a line drive to right that Wilfredo Lara misread but was still able to make a leaping grab for the final out of the inning.

Tanner Perry ran into some tough luck as the Rattler relief pitcher in the bottom of the sixth.  A double by Lara and a walk to Head put two on with no outs.  There were runners on the corners after a flyout to center allowed Lara to advance to third.  Perry picked Head off first for the second out with Williams at the plate.  Then, Perry got Williams to hit a grounder to second that was misplayed for an error to let Lara score for a 7-4 lead.

The Rattlers had another chance to get back into the game when Justin Storm walked Castillo and Hall to start the top of the eighth.  The left-handed reliever stopped the rally cold by getting Rodriguez to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.  Baez was next, and his grounder up the middle never had a chance to get through with Jaworsky stationed right where the ball was hit to turn it into an inning-ending ground out.

Head singled against José Menese in the Beloit eighth, the fourth time he had reached base in the game.  Williams added an RBI double with two outs to make it 8-4.  Beloit scored five of their eight runs after two outs in Saturday’s game.

Payne stepped in to face Storm with two outs in the top of the ninth.  The 19-year-old Milwaukee Brewers prospect lined his historic home run over the wall in left-center to set the franchise record.  He had entered the game in a four-way tie with Khris Davis, Victor Roache, and Clint Coulter.  Payne turns twenty on August 14.

A few other Appleton Professional Baseball home run marks for Payne to make a run at this season with 25 remaining on the schedule:  Lamar Johnson, who had 26 with the 1972 Appleton Foxes for the franchise’s Midwest League Record; Carlos Pascual, who hit 27 for the Fox Cities Foxes in 1958 when the team played in Class B Three-I League as an affiliate of the Washington Senators; and Pat Seerey; who hit 31 homers for the 1941 Appleton Papermakers in the Class D Wisconsin State League as an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.

The loss drops Wisconsin back to 2-1/2 games behind Beloit for the second half West Division playoff spot in the Midwest League.  Additionally, the Quad Cities River Bandits held on for a 7-6 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night.  The River Bandits remain 1-1/2 games back of Beloit for the right to play the South Bend Cubs, who won the first half division title, in the Western Division Finals.

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at ABC Supply Stadium.  Daniel Corniel (0-3, 4.68) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Julio Mendez (1-0, 5.40) has been named the starter for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 1:05pm.

The Green Bay Blizzard are one win away from the IFL Championship game with only the Tulsa Oilers standing in their way on Sunday.

In their 73-59 win over the Orlando Pirates last Sunday, Liam Thompson threw for 171 yards and seven touchdowns while Demilon Brown, Draysean Hudson, and Trevon Alexander all found the endzone on the ground. Alexander was Thompson's top target, catching five balls for 76 yards, four of which went for touchdowns. 

The Blizzard beat the Oilers in their only matchup this year, beating them 41-35 in Tulsa on May 16th.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Resch Center. 

The penultimate weekend of the Door County Baseball League regular season continues on Sunday with three matchups, including Egg Harbor's road trip to face West Jacksonport. 

The Ports used 12 walks and three hit-by-pitches to pile up runs and snap an extended losing streak as they beat Institute on the road 13-7 Friday night. The Ports jumped on the Cubs early with three first inning runs and built up a 4-0 advantage before the Cubs scratched across a run in the third inning. That run was given right back in the top of the fourth inning with the Ports scoring five times with a two-out, two-run single by Jack de Young being the frame's biggest blow. Riley Cordier had three hits and two RBI while C.J. Goetz had two hits. Alec Schartner, Eric Bley, Jack de Young and Frankie de Young also had two RBI a piece. Peyton Kuehn earned the win, striking out five across 1.2 no-hit innings.

The Indians nearly upset Kolberg on Sunday before eventually falling 5-4. Scoreless through four innings, the Braves struck first with a run in the fifth inning only to have the Indians respond with four runs of their own. Drew Price and Cole Frangipiane hit back-to-back two-run singles to give the Indians the lead. The Braves rallied with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before Austin Rohe's sacrifice fly drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Price went 2-4 with two RBI while Frangipiane and Anthony Jennerjohn recorded the other hits. Drake Olsen was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs (2 ER) on one hit and three walks while striking out one in his lone inning of work. 

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT from West Jacksonport beginning at 1:15 p.m. followed by the first pitch at 1:30 p.m.

Sunday's other two matchups include Washington Island hosting Maplewood and Sister Bay visiting Kolberg.

The Baileys Harbor A's outhit the Institute Cubs 18-4 and outscored them 18-2 in the final night game of the Door County Baseball League season on Friday.

The A's jumped on the Cubs early with three runs in the first inning, which included an Owen Dannhausen two-RBI single before tacking on one more in the second inning. They had doubled their lead to 8-0 when the A's plated 10 runs in the sixth inning with Aaron Brey, Caleb Plzak, Danny Lodl, and Ethan Kratcha recording RBI hits. Robbie Pollman drove in a run and Sam Zirbel reached on an error to bring two runs across for the Cubs, but it was not enough to prevent the game from ending in the eighth inning.

For the A's, Brey led the way with four hits and seven RBI while Kratcha and Plazak had three hits and Dannhausen, Lodl, and River Pawelski all had two hits. Dannhausen and Plzak each drove in three runs while Kratcha knocked in a pair. Brey did not need much help on the mound as he went 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 15.

For the Cubs, Caleb Hoffman had two hits while Nick Peterson and Pollman tallied the other two. Siggy Hansen struggled as he allowed 18 runs (18 ER) on 18 hits and 14 walks while striking out in a complete-game effort.

Sunday's slate of games includes Kolberg welcoming Sister Bay, Maplewood visiting Washington Island, and on 105.1 The GOAT, Egg Harbor heading to West Jacksonport.

An early 3-0 lead evaporated for the Green Bay Rockers as they lost to the Madison Mallards in their penultimate game of the season 10-7.

A Coleman Lewis two-run homer capped off a three run rally in the third inning, but the Mallards scored five runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth to make it 9-2 going into the final third of the game. The Rockers would outscore the Mallards 3-1 in the final three innings, but it was not enough to tip the game in their favor.

Dawson Schmidt led the Rockers with two hits while James Knoll and Lewis each posted two RBI. Connor Cavo was responsible for the loss, allowing five runs (4 ER) on seven hits and three walks over four innings of work. 

The Rockers will play their season finale against the Mallards Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.

Luis Peña went 4-for-4 with a walk, a run, two stolen bases, and two RBI to help pace the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to an 11-5 win over the Beloit Sky Carp Friday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

Wisconsin (56-45 overall, 22-17 second half) scored two runs in the first inning on an infield single, an error, four walks, and a wild pitch.  Peña started the game with the infield single and moved up to second on a throwing error.  Beloit starting pitcher Michael Perez walked the next two batters to load the bases before throwing a wild pitch to allow Peña to score.  Another walk reloaded the bases, and Tayden Hall knocked in the second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right.

Beloit (51-54, 24-16) sent reliever Braulio Salas out for the top of the second inning after Perez threw 40 pitches in the first.  Peña reached on another single.  He stole second and third on consecutive pitches.  Eric Bitonti drove in Peña with a high chopper to first for a 3-0 lead.

The Sky Carp got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out RBI single by Wilson Weber.

Max Williams hit a two-out, two-run home run to right in the bottom of the third to tie the score 3-3.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Josh Knoth didn’t allow another run.

The Rattlers took advantage of a defensive lapse in the top of the fourth to set the table for Peña.  Tyler Rodriguez singled to start the inning.  Yannic Walther singled to left-center with one out.  Rodriguez, with the play in front of him, raced for third base.  Leftfielder Jacob Jenkins-Cowart fielded the ball and made a whirling throw to third that was way too late to get Rodriguez.  Walther lit out for second when he saw where the throw was going and the Rattlers had runners at second and third for Peña.

Then, Peña delivered a sharp single to center to score both runs for a 5-3 lead.

Daniel Dickinson started the top of the fifth with a single and he went to third on a single by Tayden Hall.  Luiyin Alastre drove in Dickinson with a sacrifice fly.

Knoth pitched around a one-out single in the fourth and a lead-off walk in the fifth to turn the 6-3 lead over to the bullpen.  He walked three and struck out eight over his five innings.

Luis Castillo launched a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh to add to the Wisconsin lead.  Castillo’s fifteenth home run of the season also extended his hitting streak to a season-high twelve games and gave him 71 RBI on the season.  Castillo is the first Rattler of the High-A Era for the franchise (since 2021) to reach 70 RBI in a season.  David Fry, who had 70 RBI in 2019, is the last Rattler to reach that mark in a season.

Later in the seventh, Yannic Walther lined a three-run home run to the Beloit bullpen for a 10-3 lead.  The homer was Walther’s second with Wisconsin.

The Sky Carp had two on in the bottom of the seventh after an error and a one-out single.  Reliever Bjorn Johnson, who had pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning, struck out Dillon Head for the second out.  However, Starlyn Caba lined a triple, and the Sky Carp were within five.  Johnson got his third strikeout of the game for the final out of the seventh.

Wisconsin got that run back in the top of the eighth when Dickinson singled for his twentieth multi-hit game of the season and moved to second on a grounder.  Hall singled to send Dickinson home for an 11-5 lead.

There was a scary moment in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Quinton Low took over on the mound for the Timber Rattlers.  Williams, the lead-off batter in the inning, lined the second pitch of the at bat off Low’s face.  The ball deflected to Hall at first for a 1-3 putout while Lowe was on his hands and knees on the first base side of the mound.  Wisconsin’s training staff raced to the mound to check on Low, who was eventually able to make it back to his feet and walk off the field on his own.

José Nova was called in from the bullpen and got the final five outs of the game, including striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rattlers pitchers combined for fourteen strikeouts in the game.

Peña, who was playing his first game at shortstop since July 18, was on base five times in the game with three singles, a walk, and a triple, which came in the seventh inning.  Peña collected his first four-hit game as a Rattler and his first since June 11, 2024 in a Dominican Summer League game.  He was replaced by Juan Baez defensively at short in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 

The Rattlers have pulled to within 1-1/2 games of the Sky Carp for the second half West Division playoff spot.  The Quad Cities River Bandits entered Friday 1-1/2 games behind Beloit.  Their game at Peoria was tied 6-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth when this story was emailed.

Game five of the series is Saturday night with a 6:35pm start time at ABC Supply Stadium.  Ethan Dorchies (4-7, 5.09) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Carson Laws (1-6, 6.59) has been named as the starting pitcher for Beloit.  Newstalk 93.9 WOSH and internet audio has the radio broadcast starting with the Community Blood Center Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

The Casco Lions Club will welcome 11 teams to the community's diamond this weekend as a part of its annual slow-pitch baseball tournament. 

The teams begin the tournament on Friday night with the champions fighting for a top prize of $350. 

The baseball tournament is just a small part of the weekend that raises funds for the Casco Lions Club's activities in the community. On Saturday, a cornhole tournament will take place in addition to fireworks after the night games. On Sunday, the annual parade will kickoff in front of the Village Kitchen at 11 a.m. and make its way to Village Park ahead of the championship game at noon.

Ashwaubenon's win over Manitowoc on Thursday solidified next week's Shoreland League semifinal matchups that will put two Kewaunee County teams on a collision course.

The Casco A's will welcome the Lookouts while the Kewaunee Chiefs will host the Denmark Devil Bears. Both series begin on Monday at 7:30 p.m. with additional games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The A's beat the Lookouts 7-0 and 4-2 during the regular season while the Chiefs swept the Devil Bears with victories of 5-4 and 5-3. 

All it took was one big inning for the Green Bay Rockers to secure their third win in a row on Thursday night as they beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 8-6 on the road.

After allowing two runs in the fifth inning, the Rockers rallied to score seven runs in the sixth inning, with RBI singles from Dawson Schmidt and Coleman Lewis acting as the frame's biggest blows. The Rafters rallied for three runs in the ninth inning and had the tying run at the plate before pitcher Skyler Sievert induced a popout to secure the save.

The Rockers were outhit 9-4, but they took advantage of nine walks and two errors to score their runs. Lewis led the Rockers with three RBI while four others had one. Austin Grube got the win on the mound, allowing two runs (2 ER) on six hits and three walks while striking out four across 5.2 innings. 

The Rockers will end their season in Madison with games at 6:35 p.m. on Friday and 6:05 p.m. on Saturday against the Mallards.

The crowd for the Green Bay Packers' practice on Friday night will be bigger than most as they host Family Night inside Lambeau Field. 

While placing it on Friday night is new for the event entering its 25th year, it fits the team's preseason schedule of one Thursday and two Friday games. The other details are very similar to past years, according to Packers.com. 

The format of this year's Family Night will once again be a full practice, in order for the team to accomplish its preparation goals for the regular season with the rest of the training camp schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.  

Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m., with the team taking the field for warmups at 7 p.m. and practice beginning at 7:30.

The Beloit Sky Carp are known for their speed instead of their power.  That changed on Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Beloit hit three solo homers and kept the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers from taking advantage of eight walks and two errors.  Beloit beat Wisconsin 5-3 to earn their first win of the series after the Rattlers had won the first two games.

Starlyn Caba gave the Sky Carp (51-53 overall, 24-15 second half) a 1-0 lead when he hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning on the tenth pitch of his at bat against Wisconsin starting pitcher Jacob Morrison.
 

Cody Schrier added to the Beloit lead with a lead-off homer in the second.

Nate Payne, the Beloit starting pitcher, walked Luis Peña to start the game.  Then, he retired the next eleven Rattlers in a row, including seven via the strikeout.
 

Wisconsin (55-45, 21-17) snapped that streak with three straight two-out singles in the top of the fourth. Eric Bitonti and Luis Castillo set up the rally.  Tayden Hall cashed in Bitonti with a single to right.

The Sky Carp added to their lead in their half of the fourth.  Carter Johnson opened the inning with a double.  Brian Sanchez singled to right to knock in Johnson.  The throw to the plate was late and the throw to second in an attempt to get Sanchez was wild to allow him to take third base.  Abrahan Ramirez drove in Sanchez with a single for a 4-1 advantage.

The fifth inning was odd and frustrating for the Timber Rattlers. Payne walked the first two batters on eight pitches but had one on with one out after Luis Lameda was picked off first by catcher Carlos Sanchez on a 3-0 pitch to Yannic Walther.  Payne left the game with two outs in the fifth after recording his ninth strikeout.

Cannon Pickell entered the game and walked the next three batters, including Eric Bitonti with the bases loaded, to force in a run.

Luis Castillo, the Wisconsin leader in RBI, was next.  He hit a sinking, slicing line drive to the gap in left-center.  Jacob Jenkins-Cowart raced in and made a diving catch for the final out to deny Castillo and the Rattlers.

Jenkins-Cowart twisted the knife in the bottom of the fifth with a long, lead-off homer for a 5-2 lead.

Jayden Dubanewicz gave the Rattlers a chance with three scoreless innings out of the Wisconsin bullpen.  He walked one and struck out three.

Hall cracked a lead-off home run for Wisconsin in the top of the eighth inning against Juan Reynoso, the fourth Beloit pitcher of the game.  A single by Juan Baez followed that homer.  He was at third with two outs after an error and a wild pitch.  Walther drew another walk, the eighth of the night by Beloit pitching, to bring Peña to the plate as the potential go-ahead run.  Reynoso struck out Peña to end the threat and went on to strike out two more Rattlers in a perfect ninth inning to earn his twelfth save of the season.

Beloit had hit 93 homers, tied for tenth in the Midwest League, coming into the game.  They were just 2-for-4 in stolen base attempts against Walther on Thursday to run their league-leading total to 243 stolen bases.

Wisconsin stranded ten runners as they went 1-for-8, including six strikeouts, with runners in scoring position.

The loss was costly for the Timber Rattlers as it dropped them back to 2-1/2 games behind the West Division-leading Sky Carp.  Also, with the Quad Cities River Bandits defeating the Peoria Chiefs 7-0 on Thursday, Wisconsin is now a game behind the Bandits, who remained 1-1/2 games behind Beloit.

Hall’s home run was his tenth of the season in the Midwest League.  This marks the first time there have been six Timber Rattlers to reach double digits in home runs during a season.  Braylon Payne (22), Andrew Fischer (20), Bitonti (17), Castillo (14), Marco Dinges, and Hall (10) are the six Wisconsin hitters with ten or more homers in 2026.
 

Game four of the series is Friday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Josh Knoth (3-2, 4.79) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Michael Perez (4-0, 4.33) is scheduled to start for Beloit.  Game time is 6:05pm.

Baileys Harbor and Institute will play each other in the final night game of the Door County Baseball League season on Friday.

The Cubs allowed West Jacksonport to accumulate 12 walks and three hit-by-pitches to pile up runs and snap an extended losing streak in a 13-7 loss last Friday night. The lead was 10-1 before the Cubs mounted their comeback. Buoyed by a two-run double by Caleb Hoffman, the Cubs scored five times in the game to shring their deficit to 10-6. Will Hartman went 2-4 with one RBI while Zirbel also drove in a run on one hit. Siggy Hansen took the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits and eight walks across four innings while striking out two. 

The A's playoff hopes took a hit on Sunday with a 7-4 loss to Maplewood on Sunday. The A's biggest rally came in the seventh inning when Chris Lodl and Caleb Plzak had back-to-back RBI singles and had the tying run at the plate before the Mets induced a fielder's choice to end the scoring for the game. Aaron Brey, Chris Lodl, and Hayden Reetz each had two hits with Lodl, Plzak, and Reetz accounting for the RBI. Danny Lodl took the loss, allowing four runs (4 ER) on four hits) and two walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings.  

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Green Bay Rockers sent the home fans with good vibes heading into the offseason after beating the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 14-6.

The Rockers scored at least two runs in four innings, including four runs in two of them, to help them win in a rout despite being outhit 14-13 and not hitting a homer. They did show patience as they drew 15 walks, including three apiece by Brayden Pleau and Boone Kirst.

Landon Schaefer went 3-4 with a triple and two RBI while Stefan Di Corrado, Ben Fishel, and Dawson Schmidt all had two hits. Pleau and Schmidt each had three RBI while Di Corrado, Schaefer, and Kirst all drove in a pair. Owen Ripley secured the win on the mound, allowing four runs (4 ER) on eight hits and four walks while striking out two across five innings.

The Rockers will be on the road the rest of the season, spending Thursday in Wisconsin Rapids before playing Madison Friday and Saturday.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got a solid start from J.D. Thompson, four scoreless innings of relief from the bullpen, some key hits, and a flawless defense to beat the Beloit Sky Carp 4-2 at ABC Supply Stadium on Wednesday night.  The victory tightens the race between division-leading Beloit and the Rattlers, who have won two in a row to open the road series.

Luis Peña started the game with a triple on the first pitch from Beloit starting pitcher Brayan Mendoza.  Daniel Dickinson knocked in Peña with an infield single for Wisconsin’s early 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers (55-44 overall, 21-16 second half) doubled their lead with a two-out rally in the top of the second.  Luiyin Alastre singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Blayberg Diaz singled up the middle to score Alastre for a 2-0 lead.

Beloit (50-53, 23-15) responded with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second.  Thompson had retired the first five batters he faced before walking Esmil Valencia to extend the Sky Carp second.  Valencia stole second and scored on a bloop single by Emilio Barreras.

The stolen base came into play for the Sky Carp again in the bottom of the third.  Dillon Head singled with one out and stole second, his 34th steal of the season and Beloit’s 241st as a team.  Then, Jesús Hernandez singled and Head raced home with the tying run.

In the fifth, Alastre and Peña got Wisconsin back in front.  Alastre singled and moved to second on a ground out.  Peña followed with a sharp single to center to send Alastre home with the go-ahead run.

Thompson rebounded after the RBI single by Hernandez as he retired the final seven batters he faced. Thompson, a second round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers out of Vanderbilt in 2025, set new professional, single-game highs for strikeouts (7) and innings pitched (5) as he left the game with the lead and a chance for his first professional win.

Wisconsin added to that lead in the top of the eighth inning.  Braylon Payne scored from third on a wild pitch by Beloit reliever Justin Storm with two outs for a 4-2 lead.

Three Rattler relievers did their job to close out the game.  José Meneses pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout as the first pitcher out of the Wisconsin bullpen.  Michael Fowler was next.  He pitched around a lead-off single and a wild pitch that put a runner on second with no outs.

Yerlin Rodriguez got the bottom of the ninth.  He walked the first two batters to bring the winning run to the plate for Beloit.  Rodriguez regrouped to get the first out on a popout to shallow left.  He ended the game by getting Brian Sanchez to ground into a 4-6-3 double play for his fourth save of the season.

Dickinson, Peña, and Alastre each had two hits in the game.

The win has moved the Timber Rattlers to within 1-1/2 games of the Sky Carp for the second half West Division playoff spot.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Jacob Morrison (1-0, 0.00) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers as he makes his first start with Wisconsin.  The Sky Carp have named Nate Payne (3-6, 4.1) as their starter.

The Algoma Penguins fell behind 6-0 and never could catch up in their 8-3 playoff loss to Ashwaubenon on Tuesday.

After giving up single runs in the fourth and fifth inning, the Penguins scored their only runs of the game in bottom of the sixth inning after allowing four runs in the top of the frame. Back-to-back RBI singles from Tyler Neinas and Charlie Prokash provided the offense that went silent the rest of the game as the Lookouts faced the minimum over the final three innings.

Prokash led the way with two hits and two RBI in the Penguins' season finale while Neinas, Carson Leist, Austin Dart, Brady Kita, and Jaden Diller all recorded one hit. Leist took the loss, allowing two runs (1 ER) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three across five innings.

The Green Bay Rockers' Dom Bello delivered the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to beat the Wausau Woodchucks on the road 6-5.

Tied 2-2 after four innings, the Rockers scored three times in the fifth inning to take the lead courtesy of a fielder's choice and a pair of errors. The Woodchucks refused to give up, scoring single tallies in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to force extras before Bello's heroics.

The Rockers outhit the Woodchucks 13-8 with Boone Kirst delivering three hits and Brayden Pleau, Bello, Landon Schaefer, and Dawson Schmidt each registering two. Zacary Tenn improved to 5-0 on the season with five innings of relief, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits and four walks while striking out two along the way.

The Rockers play their home finale tonight (8/5) against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at 6:35 p.m. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started an important two-week road trip with an emphatic 9-3 victory over the Beloit Sky Carp Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Wande Torres battled through seven inning as the starting pitcher, Braylon Payne hit an historic homer, and Luis Castillo delivered a big blast of his own late in the game to decisively give the game to the Rattlers.

Wisconsin (54-44 overall, 20-16 second half) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning.  Payne tripled with one out.  Daniel Dickinson followed with a single to left to knock in Payne.

Beloit (50-52, 23-14) responded with two runs in the bottom of the second.  Esmil Valencia doubled and Emilio Barreras singled to put runners on the corners.  Wilfredo Lara drove in Valencia with a one-out single to right that also put Barerras at third base.  Dillon Head put the Sky Carp in front with a sacrifice fly to score Barreras.

Payne evened the score with his 22nd home run of the season.  He drove a pitch off the foul pole in right field with one out in the top of the third.  That home run tied the franchise record for homers by a player in a single season.  Payne became the fourth Rattler to hit 22 home runs in a season.  The others are Khris Davis (2010), Victor Roache (2013), and Clint Coulter (2014).

The Sky Carp went back in front in the bottom of the fourth.  Valencia doubled to start the inning again but was still at second with two outs.  Lara got the run home with another single to right for the 3-2 advantage.

The Rattlers responded to tie the game in the top of the fifth.  Yannic Walther reached third to open the inning on an infield single and a throwing error by Beloit pitcher Liomar Martinez.  Luis Peña followed with a triple to center to knock in Walther with the tying run.  However, the Rattlers could not score Peña with the go-ahead run as Martinez retired the next three batters on a strikeout, a foul pop, and a strikeout.

Peyton Fosher relieved Martinez to start the top of the sixth inning and retired the first two Rattlers he faced.  Tyler Rodriguez kept the inning alive with a double to left.  Luiyin Alastre singled to left to knock in Martinez with the run to give the Rattlers a 4-3 lead.

Torres went back out for the sixth and worked around a two-out hit batsman.  He was also called on to pitch the seventh and he retired the side in order, including his eighth strikeout of the night to end his night after 93 pitches.  Torres scattered nine hits, walked none, and put the Rattlers in position to pick up an important win in game one of their series with the West Division leaders.

Daniel Corniel took over for Torres to start the bottom of the eighth and gave up a single and a stolen base to put the tying run in scoring position.  Corniel retired the next two batters but walked Barreras to put the go-ahead run on base for the Sky Carp.  The Rattlers got out of the eighth with a force out at second and went to the plate in the ninth looking for some insurance.

They found plenty.

Peña started the inning with a double with Beloit reliever Luis De La Cruz walking Payne and Dickinson to load the bases.  Eric Bitnoti singled sharply to left to score Peña.  That brought Luis Castillo to the plate with the bases still loaded.

De La Cruz fell behind Castillo and the Rattlers right fielder was ready for the 3-1 pitch.  He crushed the ball deep to right for a no-doubt, grand slam and a 9-3 lead.  Castillo has hit fourteen home runs this season, including two grand slams.  He extended his current hitting streak to a season-high eight games.  Castillo, the team-leader in RBI with 70, also has an RBI streak of five consecutive games.  He has thirteen runs batted in over his last five games.

Corniel gave up a lead-off single in the ninth, but nothing else to earn his second save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers and the Quad Cities River Bandits, who beat the Peoria Chiefs 7-3 on Tuesday night, have both moved to within 2-1/2 games of the Beloit Sky Carp, the West Division leaders in the second half.  Wisconsin has 29 games remaining in the season.

Game two of the series is Wednesday evening at ABC Supply Stadium.  J.D. Thompson (0-1, 3.96) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Brayan Mendoza (4-4, 5.89) is set to start for Beloit.  Game time is 6:05pm.

Suffering depth issues at the position, the Green Bay Packers signed two new tight ends and dropped another two on Tuesday.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced  that they signed TE McCallan Castles and TE Drew Biber and waived/injured TE Luke Lachey and TE RJ Maryland.

According to Packers.com, Castles is a a first-year player out of the University of Tennessee with previous experience with the Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, and Los Angeles Rams. Biber is a rookie who played at both Purdue and Minnesota.

The Packers will not have a public practice until they step inside Lambeau Field for Family Night on Friday.

The Algoma Penguins are playing some of their best baseball of the season heading into its playoff play-in game on Tuesday against Ashwaubenon. 

The Penguins started the season 0-7, but ended up winning four of their final five games including a 12-10 win against the Lookouts last Thursday. In that game, the Penguins scored three runs in four different innings, including the first three. Jack Peterson went 3-5 while Aaron Brey, Brady Kita, Austin Dart, and Tyler Neinas each had two hits. Kita posted four RBI while Brey and Dart each had two.

The Penguins' lone loss during the stretch was also to the Lookouts, a 14-10 decision on July 27th. 

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

One inning was all it took for the Casco A's to claim its second consecutive Shoreland League regular season title, defeating the Denmark Devilbears 3-2 on Monday.

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the A's scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning with Blake Robillard's single driving in a pair and Cole Bzdawka's sacrifice fly driving in the other run. Owen Deprez took over from their, allowing just one more run before Colin Lacey collected the save with two innings of scoreless relief. 

For the A's, Robillard's two-RBI hit was joined by knocks from Mitch Jandrin, Deprez, Phil Daniels, and Trevor Reinhardt. Deprez earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (1 ER) on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 across seven innings.

The A's will learn their opponent once the dust settles after Tuesday's play-in games. 

A new voice will join head coach Kayla Karius on the bench this Green Bay women's basketball season after the program announced  Carley Neumann as an assistant coach.

According to GreenBayPhoenix.com, Neumann spent the past three years as the associate head coach at the University of Sioux Falls. She also had stints at Presentation College and St. Cloud State. 

"We are thrilled to welcome Carley and her family to Green Bay," said Karius in a statement. "Carley is a passionate coach and outstanding leader who brings a great understanding of the game. She truly invests in the growth of student-athletes, building meaningful relationships while helping them develop on and off the court. We know she'll be a great fit for our program and our community."

The move comes months after Karius' assistant Kate Peterson Abiad left the program to become the head coach for Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Green Bay Rockers dug out from a 5-0 hole only to fall into another deficit they could not dig out of in a 9-6 defeat to the Wausau Woodchucks on Monday.

A Woodchuck grandslam and a RBI double buried the Rockers in the first inning, but they did not give up as they rallied for two runs in their half of the frame before tying it up in the fifth with Daniel Harden's solo shot the highlight. The game tilted in favor of the Woodchucks in the eighth inning when the Rockers could only answer their four-run frame with one of their own.

Harden was the lone Rockers player to have multiple hits (2) while Coleman Lewis led the team in RBI thanks to his two-run shot. Cord Copley took the loss for the Rockers, allowing four runs (4 ER) on one hit and three walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings of work.

The series shifts to Wausau for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday. 

Casco and Denmark play in the final Shoreland League regular season game of 2026 on Monday, and it could have plenty of impact on how the rest of the playoffs shake out for the rest of the teams.

In their last game, two innings of big offense was all the A's needed to get past the Kewaunee Chiefs on Wednesday with a 10-4 victory. Colin Lacey, Blake Robillard, and Phil Daniels all had three hits, combining to drive in two of the runs. Owen Deprez and Trevor Reinhardt each had two hits, with the latter driving in five runs. Noah Lindsley went the distance for the A's to garner the win, allowing four runs (4 ER) on 12 hits while striking out six.

Someone will be tied with Kewaunee and based on tiebreakers, Casco claims the #1 seed with a win and Kewaunee gets the #1 seed if Denmark wins. Play-in games start on Tuesday with Two Rivers at Manitowoc and Ashwaubenon at Algoma.

A three-way tie sit at the top of the Door County Baseball League standings after Sister Bay edged Washington Island 2-1 on Sunday.

The Bays outhit the Islanders 11-4, but timely pitching and defense was able to limit the damage to just Griffin Cole's RBI single in the first inning and Tom Sawyer's RBI single in the fourth inning. The Islanders threatened to keep the standings in their favor after Bennett Isaacson-Krueger homered, but Sam Forkert induced two consecutive batters to thwart the comeback. 

For the Bays, Sawyer and Forkert each had three hits while Cole and Casey Weddig each had a pair of knocks in the victory. Forkert limited the Islanders to just one run (1 ER) on four hits and three walks while striking out five for a complete game win. 

For the Islanders, Cam Munao, Ray McDonald, and Luke Geiger recorded the only other hits. Ryan Jorgenson was the tough luck pitcher, allowing two runs (2 ER) on eight hits and four walks. 

The Kolberg Braves needed to rally from a 4-1 deficit to keep pace in the Door County Baseball League standings on Sunday, beating the Egg Harbor Indians 5-4.

Scoreless through four innings, the Braves struck first with a run in the fifth inning only to have the Indians respond with four runs of their own. Drew Price and Cole Frangipiane hit back-to-back two-run singles to give the Indians the lead. The Braves rallied with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before Austin Rohe's sacrifice fly drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

For the Braves, Tyler Neinas led the Braves with two hits while Trevor Reinhardt, Rohe, Neinas, Nick LeCaptain, and Sam Koss registered the RBI. Reinhardt earned the win, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits and a walk while striking out six across 4.2 innings.

For the Indians, Price went 2-4 with two RBI while Frangipiane and Anthony Jennerjohn recorded the other hits. Drake Olsen was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs (2 ER) on one hit and three walks while striking out one in his lone inning of work. 

A fast start for the Maplewood Mets helped them slide into a 7-4 victory over Baileys Harbor on Sunday.

A two-run triple by Kody Kissinger in the first inning and back-to-back extra base hits by Gavin Brady and Jaden Diller helped the Mets coast to a 6-0 lead through the first two innings. The A's did not go away with single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings before the Mets struck back with one of their own in the sixth inning. The A's biggest rally came in the seventh inning when Chris Lodl and Caleb Plzak had back-to-back RBI singles and had the tying run at the plate before the Mets induced a fielder's choice to end the scoring for the game.

For the Mets, Diller and Kordell Draves each had three hits while Kissinger led the way with three RBI. Tory Jandrin earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (1 ER) on four hits and two walks while striking out three across five innings.

For the A's, Aaron Brey, Chris Lodl, and Hayden Reetz each had two hits with Lodl, Plzak, and Reetz accounting for the RBI. Danny Lodl took the loss, allowing four runs (4 ER) on four hits) and two walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings.  

The Green Bay Blizzard are one win away from the IFL Championship game after dominating the Orlando Pirates 73-59 at the Resch Center on Sunday.

After a close first quarter, the Blizzard went on two separate 14-plus point runs and outscored the Pirates 43-25 in the middle periods to put the game in a comfortable space in the fourth quarter.

Liam Thompson threw for 171 yards and seven touchdowns while Demilon Brown, Draysean Hudson, and Trevon Alexander all found the endzone on the ground. Alexander was Thompson's top target, catching five balls for 76 yards, four of which went for touchdowns. 

The Blizzard will try to clinch their spot in the championship game on Sunday when they host the Tulsa Oilers for a 3 p.m. kickoff.  

After dropping its game on Saturday, the Green Bay Rockers found the luck of the Irish in its Sunday matinee against the Royal Oak Leprechauns, winning the game 8-6.

After a scoreless first inning, the Rockers scored seven of its eight runs in innings two-five with a Jeremy Delamota homer in the seventh the lone exception. The Leprechauns made things interesting in the ninth inning as they scored one run and the tying run at the plate before being put away with a pop out.

Coleman Lewis, Delamota, and JT Starkus all had two-hit games with Delamota leaving the yard twice and Lewis and Starkus each homering once. Brennen Miller got the win on the mound, allowing five runs (5 ER) on seven hits and a walk while striking out five across seven innings. 

The Rockers wrap up their 2026 campaign with a pair of home-and-home series with Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids before playing a pair in Madison. They will be at home on Monday and Wednesday for 6:35 p.m. games.  

The stage was set for a storybook finish for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at home in front of their biggest crowd of the season.  Wisconsin had opportunities for a walkoff victory in both the ninth and tenth innings but fell to the Lansing Lugnuts 5-4.

Lansing (42-57 overall, 13-22 second half) had a 1-0 lead three batters into the game.  Rodney Green, Jr singled and Logan Sauve doubled to put runners on the corners.  Ali Camarillo drove in Green with a grounder to third.

Ethan Dorchies, the Rattlers starting pitcher, loaded the bases with one out a walk and a hit batsman before escaping the inning on a strikeout and a nice diving play at third by Eric Bitonti for the final out.

Bitonti started the Wisconsin rally to tie the game in the bottom of the second with a lead-off double.  Tayden Hall knocked in Bitonti with a triple to the corner in right to even the score.
 

The Timber Rattlers (53-44 overall, 19-16 second half) had chances to take the lead but had two runners thrown out the plate – Hall when he tried to score from third on a grounder to short in the second and Daniel Dickinson when he tried to score on a wild throw from the outfield in the fourth.

Wisconsin left ten runners on base through nine innings, including two runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth and the bases loaded in the ninth.

The Rattlers loaded the bases with one out in the ninth on a single and two walks against Jose Dicochea, who escaped the inning on a force play at the plate for the first out and a force play at second to send the game to the tenth inning.

Lansing started their half of the tenth with Green as the placed runner at second.  He was sacrificed to third on a bunt by Sauve.   Camarillo delivered a single to left through the drawn-in infield to score Green.  That single by Camarillo was the first for the Lugnuts since the fifth inning.

Rattlers reliever Quinton Low got the second out with a strikeout before a single and a walk loaded the bases to bring Pedro Pineda to the plate.  Pineda sent a sinking line drive to left center.  Payne made a diving attempt on the catch and got a glove on the ball but could not secure it.  The ball got behind him and went for a three-run triple for a 5-1 lead.

Dicochea went back out for the bottom of the tenth with Payne as the placed runner at second.  Dicochea loaded the bases with no outs when he hit Dickinson and walked Bitonti.  A passed ball allowed Payne to score and move the other runners into scoring position.

Luis Castillo, the Wisconsin leader in RBI hit a weak grounder to third that was just inside the bag at third for a two-run double to pull the Rattlers to within a run.  A walk to Tayden Hall put the winning run on base.

Dicochea got the first out on a strikeout before he was replaced by Griffin Kirn.

Luiyin Alastre stepped in with a crowd of 5,568 urging him on.  He hit a slicing line drive ticketed for right-center.  However, the excitement of the crowd turned to disappointment as they realized second baseman Gunner Gouldsmith was positioned perfectly.  Gouldsmith took a couple steps to his left to snare the liner and turned it into a game-ending double play when he flipped the ball to Camarillo on the second base bag to double up Castillo, who had strayed too far from the bag.

Wisconsin only struck out three times on Sunday as they ended the game 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of eleven runners.

Sunday’s results in the second half West Division playoff race were not favorable for the Timber Rattlers.  The first place Beloit Sky Carp swept a road doubleheader with the West Michigan Whitecaps to run their record this half to 23-13.  The surging Peoria Chiefs completed a six-game sweep of the Cedar Rapids Kernels.  The Quad Cities River Bandits lost to the Dayton Dragons at home.  Those results dropped Wisconsin into a three-way tie with Peoria and Quad Cities at 19-16, 3-1/2 games behind the Sky Carp.  There are thirty games remaining in the season for Wisconsin.
 

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with game one of a six-game road series against the Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit.  Wande Torres (6-5, 4.85) has been named as the tentative starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT. 

The playoff picture for the Door County Baseball League can look a lot different after Sunday with one game in particular providing most of the drama.

First-place Washington Island heads across Death's Door to play Sister Bay, who is tied for second-place with Kolberg at 9-2. The Islanders shutout Institute on Sunday 10-0 in eight innings. Cam Munao extended his lead for the battling title with a 4-4 afternoon with three RBI and two runs scored. Caleb Cornell was great as well for the Islanders, going 3-5 with two RBI. The combination of Ryan Jorgenson, Benett Isaacson-Krueger, and Will Henrickson were stingy with each allowing no runs on one hit while combining to strikeout eight batters. Tom Sawyer, Stew Larsen, and Spencer Krause all had two hits. Larsen led the way with five RBI while Krause and Sam Forkert each had two. Forkert was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs (4 ER) on 13 hits while striking out eight.

Second-place Kolberg hits the road to face Egg Harbor, who entered the weekend tied with West Jacksonport at 3-8. The Braves' Trevor Hawkey, Trevor Reinhardt, Jack Peterson, and Tyler Neinas all had two hits as they combined to drive in four runs. Austin Rohe and Austen Dart accounted for the other two RBI. Reinhardt got the win on the mound, allowing one run (0 ER) on four hits and no walks while striking out seven across six innings. The Indians fell to Baileys Harbor 6-1 last Friday night. Cody Giesseman, Alex Danen, Nick Torski, and Cole Frangipiane all registered hits. Jace Johnson took the loss, allowing two runs (2 ER), on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

Baileys Harbor looks to firm up its position in fourth place when it travels to Maplewood, who sits two games behind the A's in fifth place at 4-7. The A's beat Egg Harbor 6-1 last Friday night. Chris and Danny Lodl combined to shut down the Indians, striking out eight batters with the blemishes belonging to Chris (1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB over six innings). Chris Lodl and Bryce Plzak each had two hits while Bryce Plzak, Danny Lodl, Caleb Plzak, and River Pawelski all had one RBI to go with Aaron Brey's two. The Mets lost to Kolberg 7-2 on Sunday. Jerek Valley came off the bench to go 2-3 while Adam Gutschow and Kordell Draves each went 1-4 with an RBI. Gavin Brady took the loss, allowing seven runs (6 ER) on eight hits and five walks in three innings of work.   

All games begin at 1:30 p.m.

Luis Lameda picked a great time for his first hit as a Wisconsin Timber Rattler.  The third baseman had been 0-for-13 after his call up to Wisconsin from the Wilson Warbirds.  He delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field.  Wisconsin picked up the 6-4 win and a twinbill sweep.

Wisconsin (53-43 overall, 19-15 second half) struck early and often with a four-run first inning.  Luis Peña started the rally with a single and he moved to second on a wild pitch.  Daniel Dickinson drove in Peña with a one-out single to right for a 1-0 lead.  Eric Bitonti followed with a single.  Luis Castillo launched a 3-0 changeup from Lansing starting pitcher over the wall in right for his thirteenth home run of the season and a 4-0 lead.

The Lugnuts (41-57, 12-22) fought back to tie the game with two runs in the second and two runs in the fourth.  Wisconsin starter Jayden Dubanewicz had runners at first and second with two outs and made a wild pickoff throw to second that allowed both runners to move into scoring position.  Gunner Gouldsmith drove in both runners with a single to right.

Gouldsmith came to the plate with runners at first and second in the fourth inning and lined a double to right-center to knock in both runs and tie the game.  Dubanewicz struck out the next two batters to strand Gouldsmith and keep the game tied.

Jacob Morrison, in his Timber Rattlers debut, took over for Dubanewicz to start the fifth inning.  He pitched around an error in the fifth and a one-out double in the sixth to hold the line.

The winning rally started for the Rattlers on a two-out single by Tyler Rodriguez in the bottom of the sixth against Lansing reliever Riley Huge.  He stole second and went to third on a wild pitch.  Huge walked Filippo Di Turi to keep the inning alive for Lameda.

Lameda laced the first pitch from Huge to left-center.  Rodriguez scored easily. Di Turi raced around the bases and beat the throw to the plate for a 6-4 lead.

Morrison walked the first batter of the seventh.  Then, Milwaukee’s third round pick of the 2025 draft, retired the next three batters to finish of the game.  Morrison allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out three as he earned his first Midwest League victory.

The victory was the third straight for Wisconsin and allowed them to clinch a series win as they are 4-1 against the Lugnuts this week.

In the day's first game, the Timber Rattlers were the beneficiaries of a strong start from Josh Knoth and another home run from Braylon Payne to defeat the Lansing Lugnuts 9-0 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field.

Payne gave the Timber Rattlers (53-43 overall, 18-15 second half) the lead with a one-out, solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.  Payne, who has hit three homers in his last three games, has 21 on the season to give him the Midwest League lead and move him to within one homer of the Wisconsin home run record.

The Timber Rattlers staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth with help from the Lugnuts defense.  Yannic Walther walked with one out, but he was still at first base with two away.  Payne and Daniel Dickinson reached on back-to-back infield grounders that were misplayed for errors to load the bases.  Lansing starter Steven Echevarria walked Eric Bitonti on a 3-2 pitch to force in a run.  Luis Castillo followed with a two-run double for a 4-0 lead.

Echavarria’s game ended after a walk to Tayden Hall reloaded the bases.

Filippo Di Turi greeted reliever Mitch Myers with a two-run single for a 6-0 lead.  Wisconsin sent eleven men to the plate in the frame with seven in a row reaching after two outs.
 

Knoth was electric.  The Wisconsin starting pitcher struck out seven, allowed three hits, and walked one over six scoreless innings.

Lansing (41-56, 12-21) had two chances to get to Knoth. 

In the fourth inning, a one-out double by Ali Camarillo and a walk to Jake Reinisch put two runners on in a one-run game..  Knoth struck out the next batter for the second out.   Then, the Lugnuts attempted a double steal with Walther, the Wisconsin catcher throwing out Reinisch as the trail runner at second base for the final out of the inning.

In the sixth inning, Dylan Fien reached on a two-out error.  Camarillo followed with a single to left.  Fien took third on the play and an errant throw allowed Camarillo to take second base.  Knoth received a visit from pitching coach Pat McGuff struck out Reinisch for the final out of his start.  Knoth set a new professional high for innings pitched in a game to earn the quality start.

José Nova pitched the top of the seventh and worked around a one-out single to close out the Rattlers second straight shutout of the Lugnuts and eighth shutout of the season.
