Blizzard make it six-straight as they ease past San Antonio 62-28

The Green Bay Blizzard made it six wins in a row Friday night, dismantling the San Antonio Gunslingers 62-28 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams at the Resch Center.

It was back and forth early. San Antonio jumped out to a quick lead on a touchdown pass from QB Fred Payton Jr., but Liam Thompson answered right back with a scoring strike to Trevon Alexander. The Gunslingers responded again, and Kairee Robinson punched one in on the ground to keep it close. Green Bay led 25-21 at the half, but it wasn't exactly a comfortable margin.

The second half was a completely different story. Robinson and the Blizzard took over, scoring his second rushing touchdown early in the third to push the lead. Then the Blizzard defense started making plays. Najei Snyder picked off a pass, Franky West Jr. added another interception, and Jonathan Ross brought down Payton Jr. on a fourth down stop. Every time San Antonio had the ball, Green Bay took it back.

Robinson finished with four rushing touchdowns on the night, and backup QB Cole Stenstrom came in late and connected with Robinson for a fifth score. Green Bay pulled away with 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to put it completely out of reach.

The Blizzard now hold the best record in the Indoor Football League at 9-1. They head to Moline next week to take on the Quad City Steamwheelers, the only team to beat them this season.

Peoria's Two-Out Rally in Sixth Sinks Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not find the final out of the sixth inning against the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field and it would cost them.  Peoria scored five times with two outs in the sixth to push their lead from 3-1 to 8-1 on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Rattlers.

Peoria (24-26) took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back home runs by Jesús Báez Jack Gurevitch.  Báez hit the first pitch from Wisconsin starting pitcher Jason Woodward out for his tenth home run of the season.  Gurevitch drove a 1-1 pitch out of the ballpark for the early two-run advantage.

Wisconsin (25-22) got on the scoreboard without a hit in the bottom of the second.  Eric Bitonti walked and stole second.  Tayden Hall moved Bitonti to third with a grounder to second.  Luis Castillo knocked in Bitonti with another grounder to second.

Báez started another rally for the Chiefs when he blooped a double to right with one out in the third inning.  Jalin Flores cashed in the chance with a two-out single to right to score Báez.

The Timber Rattlers had three walks and a single in the bottom of the third but could not score.  The key play happened when Josiah Ragsdale was thrown out trying to go first to third on a single to center by Jose Cordoba for the second out.  Peoria starter Jacob Odle walked the next two batters to load the bases before getting the final out.

The Chiefs pulled away in their half of the sixth inning against reliever Ayendy Bravo.  Josh Kross, who started the inning with a walk, was at third with two outs.  Jesús Suárez singled to knock in Kross and start a string of six consecutive Peoria batters to reach base.  A walk to Luis Pino was followed by an RBI single from Cordoba, a walk to Baez, and a bases-loaded walk to Gurevitch.  Bjorn Johnson relieved Bravo and gave up a two-run single to Flores before getting the final out with a strikeout.

Eric Bitonti got the Rattlers going in the bottom of the sixth with a double.  Then, Tayden Hall launched a homer to left to cut their deficit to five runs.  That was as close as the Rattlers would get.

Wisconsin’s home record fell to 9-15 with the loss.  Peoria clinched a series win over the Rattlers with their fourth victory in the first six games of the seven-game set.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Wande Torres (3-3, 5.45) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Chiefs will send Blake Aita (1-2, 3.62) to the mound.  Game time is 1:10pm CDT.

Chiefs Top Timber Rattlers in Ten Innings

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Peoria Chiefs needed extra innings to decide Friday’s game at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Chiefs broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the top of the tenth and held off the Rattlers in the bottom of the tenth for a 7-5 victory.

The Timber Rattlers (25-21), who scored thirteen runs on eleven hits on Thursday night, kept on hitting at the start of Friday’s game as they collected three runs on five hits.

Josiah Ragsdale, Andrew Fischer, and Eric Bitonti started the inning with singles.  Bitonti’s single drove in Ragsdale and sent Fischer to third.  A fielder’s choice from Daniel Dickinson got Bitonti at second but scored Fischer for a 2-0 lead.  Dickinson stole second and scored on a single by Luis Castillo.

Tayden Hall singled to left with two outs and Castillo at second base.  Castillo tried to score on the play but was thrown out at the plate.

The Chiefs (23-26) replied in the top of the second when Sammy Hernandez hit a two-run home run to left.  That home run was the third of the season for Hernandez, all three have been against the Timber Rattlers.

Bitonti blasted a solo home run to the boardwalk above the Peoria bullpen in left-center with one out in the bottom of the third.

Luis Pino homered in the top of the fourth inning for the Chiefs and Wisconsin’s lead was back down to one run.

Ragsdale opened the Wisconsin fifth with a double.  Dickinson added to the Rattlers advantage with a two-out RBI.

Peoria rallied to tie the game in their next at bat.  Cam Nickens singled and Jalin Flores doubled to start the sixth.  A wild pitch by starting pitcher Ethan Dorchies allowed Nickens to score and Flores to take third.  Tre Richardson III tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right.

Both teams had a chance to take the lead in the ninth.  Sammy Hernandez hit a lead-off double for the Chiefs against reliever Jack Seppings in the top of the ninth.  Seppings got the first out on a popup, caught Hernandez off second for a rundown on a grounder back to the mound, and struck out Christian Martin for the final out.

The Rattlers chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth began when Tayden Hall drew a lead-off walk against Dominic Freeberger.  Josh Adamczewski was called on to pinch-hit with one out and Freeberger threw a wild pitch to move Hall to second.  Hall would stay there as Freeberger got a strikeout and a grounder to second and the game went to the tenth.

Martin started the inning at second as the placed runner and only made third when Jesus Baez hit a hit pop fly down the line in right that landed out of the reach of Luis Castillo for a double.  Nickens drove in Martin with a sacrifice fly that also moved Baez to third base.  That was key as Flores hit a grounder to Bitonti to first, but the throw home was not handled and Baez scored to make it 7-5.

Ragsdale was the placed runner at second in the bottom of the tenth for the Rattlers.  Fischer brought the crowd to its feet with a deep drive to center that looked to be a game-tying homer.  However, the ball dropped into the glove of Pino just short of the wall for the out.  Freeberger struck out Bitonti but hit Dickinson to bring Castillo to the plate as the potential winning run.

Freeberger and Castillo battled to a full count before the Chiefs hurler got Castillo to chase for strike three to end the game.

Game six of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Timber Rattlers have Jason Woodward (1-0, 5.63) as their scheduled starting pitcher.  Peoria plans on Jacob Odle, who will make his Midwest League debut, to make the start.  Game time is set for 6:40pm.

Rockers drop second straight to Woodchucks

The change in venue did not help the Green Bay Rockers after dropping its second straight game to the Wausau Woodchucks 9-5.

The Rockers took a 4-0 lead in the third inning thanks in a part to a two-run single by Eli Selga, but the tides turned quickly as the Woodchucks scored one in the third and five more in the fourth inning to flip the game into their favor. Caden Mitchell got one run back for the Rockers in the seventh inning, but the Woodchucks put the game away an inning later with three runs in the eighth to sprint past their visitors for the second straight night.

Selga led the Rockers going 2-4 with two RBI while four other registered at least one hit including a homer by Mike Dee.

Caden Roth took the loss for the Rockers, allowing four runs (1 ER) on one hit and two walks across one-third of an inning.

The Rockers will host the Madison Mallards on Friday and Saturday night as they celebrate 20 years of Northwoods League baseball in Green Bay.

Wisconsin Survives Slugfest with Peoria

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Peoria Chiefs participated in a baseball game disguised as a test of nerves on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 12-7 lead before needing to hang on for a 13-11 victory over their West Division rivals.

Peoria (22-26) took the lead with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning.  Won-Bin Cho was at second with two outs when Tre Richardson III hit a grounder to Andrew Fischer at third base.  Fischer’s throw to first was wild and Peoria had runners on the corners instead being done for the inning.  Luis Pino made the Rattlers pay with a two-run single after Richardson stole second.

Wisconsin (25-20) rallied to take the lead and knocked Peoria starting pitcher Tanner Franklin out of the game in the bottom of the second.  Josh Adamczewski started the inning with a walk.  Eric Bitonti drove in Adamczewski with a 109-mph line drive off the wall in center for a triple.  Daniel Dickinson drew a walk and stole second.  Luis Castillo fell behind 0-2 in the count before working the count full and knocking in Bitonti with a grounder to second on the eleventh pitch of the at bat.  Franklin got the second out of the inning with a strikeout but had to leave as he had reached 35 pitches in the inning and 62 for the game.

Then, Josiah Ragsdale put the Rattlers ahead with a single to right against Jason Savacool.

The Timber Rattlers were primed to blow the game open in the bottom of the fourth against Bobby Olsen.  The Chiefs reliever gave up a single to David Garcia, a walk to Ragsdale, and a single to Luis Peña to load the bases with no outs. Fischer drew a walk to force in a run for at 4-2 lead.  However, Olsen struck out the next three batters to end the inning.

The Chiefs made the Rattlers regret the inability to add to their lead when they took their turn in the fourth.  Peoria had two on with two out against Travis Smith when Cho lined a double to left to score both runs and tie the game 4-4.

Pino made a huge difference in the game on two consecutive plays.  In the bottom of the fifth, he ran down a deep fly in center to deny Ragsdale a game-tying hit with a fine catch for the final out to strand a Rattler at second.  In the top of the sixth, Pino drilled a lead-off home run for a 5-4 lead.

Peña, who reached base five times in the game with two hits and three walks, drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the sixth for the Rattlers.  Fischer lined a single to right to put Peña on third base.  Dinges grounded into a 5-4-3 double play, but Peña scored the tying run.

The tie did not last long.  Cade McGee singled and Cho doubled with one out in the top of the seventh.  Wisconsin brought the infield in with José Suárez at the plate only to watch Suárez single sharply up the middle to score both runners for a 7-5 lead.

The Peoria lead did not last long either.  In the bottom of the seventh, the first seven Timber Rattlers reached base and all seven scored.  Patrick Galle, who had pitched the sixth inning walked Bitonti and Dickinson before a single by Castillo loaded the bases.  Garcia singled to left to score two runs to tie the game.  A walk to Ragsdale reloaded the bases and ended the night for Galle.

Gerardo Salas became the fifth Peoria pitcher of the night.  Peña blooped in a single to right to score the go-ahead run.  Fischer to force in the fourth run of the inning.  Dinges made it 10-7 with an RBI grounder and Adamczewski added a sacrifice fly.

Bitonti capped the frame with an RBI double.  The seven-run uprising made it 12-7.

The Chiefs had another rally in them as they plated four runs in the top of the eighth.  Jack Gurevich singled home a run with one out.  Smith, who was approaching 90 pitches on the night, gave up two more singles to load the bases before turning the game over to Yerlin Rodriguez.

Cho welcomed Rodriguez to the mound by lining a triple to right-center on a 3-2 pitch.  That scored three runs, cut Wisconsin’s lead to 12-11, and put the tying run on third.  Rodriguez wiggled off the hook with a strikeout for the second out.  Richardson hit a high chopper to third and Fischer’s rushed throw to first was in the dirt.  Bitonti made a big dig with the scoop as the throw was in time to get Richardson for the final out.

Garcia gave the Rattlers some breathing room with a lead-off homer in the bottom of the eighth.  The homer was his second of the season.  He finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.

The drama wasn’t done in the top of the ninth.  A lead-off single and a two-out walk brought the go-ahead run to the plate for Peoria.  Rodriguez got the final out on a grounder to second as the Rattlers survived to earn their second win in a row,

Bitonti went 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits and two RBI for the Rattlers.  Fischer and Dickinson both drew four walks in the game as Wisconsin drew fifteen walks from Peoria pitching.

Cho knocked in five runs for the Chiefs.

Game five of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Ethan Dorchies (1-4, 7.18) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Leonel Sequera (1-4, 9.16) is set to start for the Chiefs.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rattlers Score Twelve to Earn Split in Doubleheader

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers raced out to an early lead and got a key three-run homer late in the game to defeat the Peoria Chiefs 12-7 in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field.  Juan Baez drove in four runs and Luis Castillo, after a few adventures in the field, delivered a that big home run in the sixth.

The Timber Rattlers (24-20) sent ten men to the plate in the bottom of the first inning and knocked Peoria starting pitcher Nate Dohm out of the game.

Josiah Ragsdale started the rally with a lead-off single with Marco Dinges following with a walk.  Andrew Fischer delivered a single to right that was overrun by Luis Pino to allow Ragsdale to score.  A poor throw into third let Fischer wind up at second base.  A walk to Josh Adamczewski loaded the bases.

Tayden Hall made it 3-0 with a one-out, two-run single to right.  Baez doubled to score Adamczewski for a 4-0 lead that forced the Chiefs to call in Ruben Menes from the Peoria bullpen.

Luiyin Alastre greeted Menes with a sacrifice fly to score Hall.  Blayberg Diaz, the ninth Rattler to hit in the inning, made it 6-0 with a broken-bat bloop single to right to send Baez home.

Peoria (22-25) bounced back in the top of the second with back-to-back homers by Tre Richardson III and Sammy Hernandez off Braylon Owens.

Richardson and Hernandez started the Chiefs rally in the top of the fourth.  Richardson single, stole second, and stole third.  Hernandez doubled to right-center to drive in Richardson.  A flyball to right off the bat of Christian Martin was lost in the sun for a double to put two runners in scoring position.  Jose Cordoba brought the Chiefs to within a run on a two-run double to left.

Wisconsin pushed their lead back to four runs with a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth.  Adamczewski and Castillo singled with two outs and Hall drew a walk against Jose Davila.  Juan Baez cracked a double high off the wall in left to score all three runners for a 9-5 lead.

The Chiefs, winners of six straight games heading into the nightcap of the twinbill, strung together a two-out rally in the top of the fifth.  Luis Pino singled with two out and none on against Quiton Low.  Richardson looked like he made the final out on a fly ball to right.  However, the ball was lost in the sun again and Richardson wound up on third with an RBI triple.  Hernandez kept the ball rolling for Peoria with an RBI single to knock in Richardson.

Castillo redeemed himself in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run home run to right for a 12-7 lead.

Garrett Hodges, who had worked a perfect sixth inning, went back out of the seventh and his first Midwest League save.  Hodges walked three and struck out three to close out the game and earn the split in the doubleheader.

Game four of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Josh Knoth (0-0, 4.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Peoria will go with Tanner Franklin (1-1, 3.31) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Rockers drop home opener to Woodchucks

The Green Bay Rockers were outhit 11-4 in their first game back at Capital Credit Union Park since their championship season as they lost to the Wausau Woodchucks.

The Woodchucks opened the game with two runs in the first and second innings and added insult to injury with three more in the seventh inning. The Rockers finally tallied a run in the eighth inning when Seungmin Shin drove in Zach Novakowski on a sacrifice fly.

Bryson Webb led the Rockers offensively with a pair of hits while Alex LePage took the loss for allowing two runs (2 ER) on one hits and two walks while striking out a pair.

Glory women exit U.S. Amateur Cup

The Green Bay Glory women saw their U.S. Amateur Cup run come to a close, losing to Milwaukee Torrent 2-2 (4-1 PKs).

The two teams traded goals with Mallory Herber opening and closing the scoring for the Glory, with the second goal coming in stoppage time to force overtime. Emily McCarthy and Lanie Weikert provided the assists on the Herber tallies. After two overtime period, the Torrent pulled away in penalties thanks to a pair of saves by its goalkeeper.

Chiefs Shutout Rattlers in Game One

The Peoria Chiefs held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to two hits in a 6-0 victory at Neuroscience Group Field in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Peoria (22-24) grabbed the lead in the fourth inning.  The first two batters reached on an error and a walk.  Cameron Nickens knocked in the first run with a single.  Won-Bin Cho made it 3-0 with a two-run triple off the wall in center.

Jack Gurevitch hit a lead-off home run in the top of the fifth to expand the Peoria advantage.  Cade McGee added a two-run homer with one out in the fifth.

Wisconsin (23-20) had numerous baserunners throughout the six innings tossed by Chiefs starting pitcher Ty Van Dyke, who allowed two hits, walked five, and hit a batter.  However, Van Dyke got the Timber Rattlers to hit into five double plays in five consecutive innings, including inning-ending twin killings in the second, third, fourth, and fifth. Van Dyke, in his second start for the Chief since his promotion to the Midwest League, also got a 6-3 double play after issuing a lead-off walk in the sixth.  He needed just 75 pitches while recording one strikeout in the game.

Luis Peña made his return to the Wisconsin lineup for the first time since April 22 when he was activated from the Rattlers injured list prior to the game.  He was 0-for-2 with a walk.

The Chiefs win was their sixth in a row.

Forkert dominates as Bays roll; Kolberg, Islanders, Indians earn DCBL Week 3 wins

The Door County Baseball League returned to action Sunday after a rainout wiped out the previous week’s slate, with four games welcoming in Memorial Day in Week 3 play across the peninsula.

At Sister Bay, Sam Forkert struck out 11, a career high, over seven innings to power the Bays (2-0) to a 12-2 win over the Cubs (0-2) in the team’s home opener, broadcast on 105.1 The GOAT and the NEW Radio Sports Network with Adam Collins and Gary Barta on the call.

Forkert allowed four hits and two runs while walking two as Sister Bay took advantage of early defensive miscues to build a lead. The Bays scored twice in the first inning on an error and added on throughout, including a five-run eighth inning fueled by doubles from Tom Sawyer and Griffin Cole. Cole finished with two RBIs, while Larsen, Forkert and Spencer Krause each had two hits. Sister Bay totaled 11 hits, eight walks and 14 stolen bases without committing an error.

In Baileys Harbor, Kolberg (2-0) defeated the A’s (0-2) 7-4 behind a 13-hit attack. Jack Peterson led the Braves with three hits, including a key double in a three-run second inning, while Austen Dart also collected three hits. Tyler Neinas earned the win, allowing two unearned runs over five innings.

At West Jacksonport, the Islanders (2-0) scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull away for a 6-2 victory over the Ports (1-1). Ray McDonald drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run before two errors led to three more. Max Bordeau homered for the Ports in the eighth. Islanders pitchers combined to hold the Ports to five hits while the offense drew 12 walks.

Blizzard on bye week, preparing for Gunslingers

The Green Bay Blizzard has a bye week this Saturday and will look to rest and recover their players in preparation for their week 12 game against the San Antonio Gunslingers.

The Blizzard boasts the best record in the IFL and sits atop the Eastern Conference with an 8-1 overall record and a 7-1 against conference foes. Their lone loss came to the Quad City Steamwheelers in Week 5, and the Blizzard got their revenge a few weeks later, coming out with a 65-40 victory.

Unlucky Thirteen for Wisconsin at Great Lakes

An early Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lead was washed away by the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night at Dow Diamond.  Great Lakes collected fifteen hits on the way to a 13-4 victory.

Andrew Fischer gave the Timber Rattlers (22-18) a 2-0 lead three batters into the game with two-run home run to right-center.  Fischer has twelve homers and thirty RBI this season.

The Loons (27-15) got a run in the bottom of the first against Josh Knoth.  Chuck Davalan walked and moved to second on a ground out.  Davalan would steal third and score on a throwing error on the play.

Knoth, in his first start as a Timber Rattler, pitched a scoreless second inning before leaving the game.  Knoth, who missed the 2025 season with an injury, joined the Timber Rattlers on Thursday after three rehabilitation starts in the Arizona Complex League to begin his season.

Great Lakes took the lead in the bottom of the third against reliever Garrett Hughes.  A two-run single by Kole Myers put the Loons up 3-2.

Wisconsin had runners at first and third with one out in the top of the fourth.  Luis Castillo hit the ball hard, but the line drive was right at first baseman Jose Hernandez, who caught the ball and stepped on first to double up the runner for an inning-ending double play.

Travis Smith took over in the fourth and allowed three runs.  Davalan drove in a run with a single and Jose Meza made it 6-2 with a two-out, two-run single

In the fifth, the Loons sent ten men to the plate, scored five runs, and took control of the game.  Smith retired the first batter of the inning.  The next three Loons reached on two singles and a walk.  Then, Davalan cleared the bases with a three-run double.  A single and another walk loaded the bases.  Smith walked Meza to force in a run and end his night.

Jack Seppings, the Rattlers fourth pitcher of the game, took over for Smith and got the second out of the inning on a weak grounder to second that scored a run for an 11-2 Great Lakes lead.

Jose Hernandez, who had three hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle, drove in the final runs of the game for Great Lakes with two-run home run in the sixth.  Seppings struck out four over the final 3-2/3 innings.

The Rattlers scored their final runs of the night on a two-run double by Josh Adamczewski in the eighth inning.

Davalan reached base four times, scored four runs, drove in four runs, and stole two bases from the lead-off spot for the Loons.  Great Lakes

Ragsdale went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for Wisconsin.  Adamczewski walked twice, stole a base, and drove in two runs.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Dow Diamond.  Ethan Dorchies (1-4, 7.62) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Brooks Auger (0-0, 0.77) is set to start for the Loons.  Game time is 5:35pm CDT.

UW-Green Bay announces Class of 2026 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has announced its inductees for the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The induction ceremony will be on June 13th at the Weidner Center.

The announced 2026 class includes women's basketball player Mehryn Kraker, volleyball player Taylor Wolf, men's diver Danny Pogue, men's golfer Shaun Rezachek, women's swimmer Kaye-Lani Laughna, and faculty member Charles 'Chuck' Ihrke.

Charles 'Chuck' Ihrke first became an Assistant Professor at UW-Green Bay in 1969, until his promotion in 1975 to Associate Professor. Chuck received the Founders Award for Excellence in teaching in 1984, the university's highest honor for faculty, before his retirement in 1999 as associate professor emeritus of human biology. In his 30-year teaching career at UWGB, Ihrke served as chair of biology and human bio, a representative to the NCAA, and chair of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and Prior Learning Council.

Mehryn Kraker created one of the most impressive resumes in Green Bay women's basketball history. The forward graduated fourth in all-time scoring with 1,671 points. Kraker is the Phoenix's all-time leader in three-point field goals made with 234. In her senior season in 2016-17, Kraker set a new Phoenix record, sinking 75 three-point field goals in a single season. Kraker scored 35 points at Detroit Mercy on Feb. 4, 2017, the third-most points scored in a single game in school history. Also during her senior year, she received the Division I-AAA Athletic Director's Association Scholar Athlete Player of the Year and was named espnW Mid-Major Player of the Year.

Kaye-Lani Laughna was on the Green Bay swimming & diving team from 1998 to 2002. She received the Swimmer of the Meet award in the 2000 MCC and 2002 Horizon League championships. She also won the 50 and 100 freestyle for three consecutive years from 2000 to 2002, and is one of three women's swimmers in conference history to win the 50 freestyle three times in the conference championships, and is one of three women's swimmers in conference history to win the 100 freestyle three times in the conference championships. She is also one of two women's swimmers in conference history to win two different events three times at conference championships (50 and 100 free).

Daniel Pogue also spent four seasons on the Green Bay Swimming & Diving Squad from 2008-2012 and made his mark as a program record-breaker. Pogue set the record for the highest score ever recorded in the men's 1-meter board with an incredible 379.15, 50.5 points over second place. Pogue additionally set a record for the 3-meter board, scoring 352.00 points, a record that stood for a decade. Pogue was named Horizon League Diver of the Meet twice, a five-time conference champion for the Phoenix, and earned his Green Bay program record 15th Diver of the Week award on Dec. 6, 2011. In his senior year, Pogue earned the Men's Horizon League Diver of the Meet Award after winning the individual title from his school record-breaking 1-meter dive, and his record-breaking 3-meter diving event performance that earned him the conference runner-up.

Shaun Rezachek played golf for four seasons at Green Bay, from 1997 to 2001. He received the honor of Horizon League Champion in 1998 and 2001, before the league's automatic NCAA bid. Rezachek was All-League all four years, while also winning Horizon League Player of the Year in  1998 and 2001. Rezachek is one of four men's golfers to win the Horizon League Player of the Year at least twice. In the spring of 1998, he achieved individual wins at Butler and Cleveland State. He had a Phoenix personal best 18-hole score of 65 at the Iron Horse/Eastern Illinois Invite. Rezachek coached the Phoenix from 2002 to 2005, which included guiding Jason Hill to a Horizon League Player of the Year award in 2005. Rezachek was also awarded the 2005 Horizon League Coach of the Year, guiding the team to multiple tournament wins during that season.

In 2017, she became the first player in program history to earn both Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors and All-Freshman Team recognition. She was named to the All-Horizon League and All-Tournament Team three consecutive years (2017–2019), highlighted by an MVP of the Horizon League Championship Tournament in Green Bay's 2018 title run and NCAA tournament qualification. Wolf was a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year (2018, 2019), a three-time AVCA All-American, and was named the university's Newcomer of the Year (2018) and Female Athlete of the Year across all sports (2019). The Clippers also had a good showing, with Cedar Tomberline taking first in the 110M hurdles and first in the long jump.  Rayshaune Johnson picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the 100M and the 200M.

The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.

Wisconsin Slams Great Lakes

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a grand time at Dow Diamond against the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday night.  Marco Dinges and Andrick Nava both hit grand slams and Chandler Welch earned his fifth win of the season with solid relief work for a 14-5 victory.

Wisconsin (22-17) had a great opportunity in the first inning when Loons starting pitcher Jakob Wright walked the first two batters of the inning.  The Rattlers could not score after a popup, a force play at second, and a strikeout.

There were two outs with none on in the bottom of the first as Wisconsin starter J.D. Thompson struck out the first two Loons in the frame.  Thompson hit Chuck Davalan, threw a wild pitch, and gave up an RBI single to Nico Perez for the Loons first run.  Perez stole second to get into scoring position and scored when Jose Meza doubled off the glove of first baseman Eric Bitonti.

Josh Adamczewski prevented a third run in the inning when the left fielder fielded a single by Eduardo Guerrero and threw out Meza, who was trying to score from second, at the plate to end the first.  Great Lakes (26-18) would not score again until the ninth inning

The Rattlers started their comeback in the second inning.  Josiah Ragsdale and Daniel Dickinson reached on walks to start the frame.  A double steal moved them both into scoring position.  A wild pitch by Wright let Ragsdale score.

Ragsdale and Dickinson both reached on walks to open the fourth.  Ragsdale was thrown out at the plate for the second out on a grounder to third by Nava and it looked like the chance to tie the game would be missed.  However, Braylon Payne kept the inning alive when he drew a walk to load the bases.  That brought Dinges to the plate and his towering drive to left had just enough to clear the yellow line for his sixth homer of the season and a 5-2 lead on the slam.

Wisconsin wasn’t done.  Andrew Fischer walked to continue the frame.  Adamczewski lined a double to left to score Fischer for a 6-2 lead.

In the fifth, Dickinson walked, stole second, stole third, and just beat a throw home off a grounder to first by Payne.  Then, Juan Baez scored on a passed ball for an 8-2 advantage.

Fischer and Adamczewski were hit by pitches to start the sixth inning.  Bitonti drove them both in with a double to right.

Nava stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth.  Reliever Reynaldo Yean walked the first three batters of the inning and was replaced by position player Jose Hernandez, who got the first out on a flyout to center.  Nava ambushed the first pitch from Hernandez and lined a homer over the wall in right.  The home run was the first by Nava since June 2, 2024 when he was with Jersey Shore in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Thompson retired eight in a row after the single by Guerrero in the first inning.  He would leave in favor of Welch after giving up a two-out walk and a single in the fourth inning.   Thompson struck out four over 3-2/3 innings

Welch got the final out of the fourth, worked around a one-out single in the fifth, was helped out on a double play to end the sixth, and stranded two runners in the seventh.  Welch left the game after getting checked out by the training staff with a runner on and one out in the eighth.  Welch also had four strikeouts over 3-2/3 innings.

Ayendy Bravo, in his Timber Rattlers debut, ended the eighth with a 6-4-3 double play.

Bravo got the first two outs of the ninth before allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases.  Emil Morales lined an 0-2 pitch to the corner in left for a three-run double to account for the final score.  Bravo ended the game moments later on a flyout to center.

Great Lakes pitchers walked fourteen on Thursday night.  Ragsdale and Dickinson each drew three walks and had a single to be on base four times.  Dickinson scored three runs to go along with his three stolen bases.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Dow Diamond.  Josh Knoth is set to make his Midwest League debut as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Great Lakes has named Christian Zazueta (1-1, 4.50) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 5:05pm CDT.

Rattlers Fall in Close Game at Great Lakes

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers cobbled together an unlikely three-run rally in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Great Lakes Loons on Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.  Then, the Loons tied the game with an unearned run in the sixth, took the lead on a run-scoring balk in the seventh, and held off the Rattlers over the final two innings for a 4-3 victory.

Great Lakes (26-14) scored twice in the first inning.  Chuck Davalan hit the second pitch of the game from Braylon Owens out of the ballpark for a leadoff home run.  Eduardo Quintero was next to hit for the Loons.  He walked and stole second but was still there with two outs.

Owens kept the Loons off the scoreboard after the fifth.  He struck out seven, walked two, and allowed four hits over five innings.  Owens is the Midwest League leader in strikeouts this season.  He has recorded 53 strikeouts in 36-1/3 innings pitched for the Rattlers in his first professional season.

Wisconsin (21-17) took the lead in the top of the sixth by scoring three runs without a hit.   Great Lakes reliever Davis Chastain, who had walked eight and struck out 29 in his first 19 innings of the season for the Loons, walked the first five batters he faced in the sixth.  Josiah Ragsdale and Daniel Dickinson each drew walks with the bases loaded to force in the runs to tie the game.  Blayberg Diaz gave the Rattlers a 3-2 advantage on a sacrifice fly.

Yorman Galindez took over for Owens to start the bottom of the sixth.  Galindez retired the first two batters of the inning but hit Nico Perez on an 0-1 pitch.  Perez stole second to get into scoring position.  He broke for third on a 2-2 pitch to Emil Morales.  The pitch was a ball, Diaz threw late and wild to third, the ball glanced off the glove of Andrew Fischer into left field to allow Perez to score the tying run.

In the bottom of the seventh, a walk and a single put runners on the corners with no outs.  Galindez committed a balk to allow the go-ahead run to score.

Wisconsin had a lead-off single from Eric Bitonti in the eighth and a two-out single in the ninth from Marco Dinges but could do nothing with them as the Loons evened up the series with a win for both teams.

Game three of the series is Thursday evening at Dow Diamond.  J.D. Thompson (0-0, 6.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Jakob Wright (2-1, 5.25) is set to start for the Loons.  Game time is 5:05pm CDT.

Green Bay Blizzard pull out gritty win over Tulsa, move to 8-1

It wasn't pretty, but the Blizzard got it done Saturday night. Green Bay survived a back-and-forth thriller against the Tulsa Oilers, outscoring them 13-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away 41-35 and improve to 8-1 on the season.

The game was a slugfest from the start, with the two teams trading punches through the first three quarters. Tulsa took a 35-27 lead heading into the fourth before Green Bay completely locked them down and scored twice to close it out. The Oilers never saw the ball again after Tariq Bracy's late interception sealed it.

Trevon Alexander was the offensive star, hauling in four catches for 93 yards and three touchdowns. Liam Thompson had his moments despite a rough night through the air, finishing 11-of-20 for 158 yards and four scores while also rushing 13 times for 75 yards and a touchdown. Kairee Robinson chipped in 44 yards on the ground and a score of his own.

Thompson's three interceptions kept Tulsa in it all night. Jerminic Smith Sr. did the damage for the Oilers with nine catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns, and Caleb Ramseur added 66 rushing yards. But when it mattered most, Green Bay's defense showed up and the offense finished the job.

The Blizzard return home to the Resch Center Fri., May 29 for the teams first matchup with the San Antonio Gunslingers this season. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.

Cubs Drop Rattlers

The South Bend Cubs continued their onslaught against Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitching with a 24-4 victory at Neuroscience Group Field on Saturday afternoon.  Kane Kepley went 4-for-7 with five RBI to lead South Bend’s 24-hit attack.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester made the start for the Timber Rattlers on a rehab assignment.  He pitched around an infield single and a walk to work a scoreless first inning.  The second inning was difficult for Priester and the Rattlers.

South Bend (20-15) sent twelve players to the plate and scored seven runs in the second.  Seven of the first eight Cubs to bat in the inning reached base with four singles, two walks, and a hit batsman.  There were two bases-loaded walks and RBI singles by Kane Kepley and Cameron Sisneros.

Bjorn Johnson relieved Priester with the bases loaded and one out.  All three runners scored with RBI singles by Kade Snell and Leonel Espinoza and a wild pitch by Johnson for a 7-0 lead.

The Cubs added a run in the third inning on and RBI single by Ty Southisene against Jason Woodward.

Wisconsin (20-16) got their first run on a two-out, solo home run by Braylon Payne.  The homer was his eighth of the season for Payne.

South Bend’s bats went back to work in the top of the fourth and scored four more runs on a two-run single by Southisene sandwiched between a pair of bases-loaded walks.  In the fifth, Miguel Useche had an RBI double for an 11-1 lead.

Andrew Fischer crushed a home run to right to start the bottom of the sixth inning to take over the Midwest League lead in homers.  Wisconsin’s third baseman is the first hitter in the league to reach ten homers this season.

The Cubs pulled away with seven more runs in the seventh, a run in the eighth, and three runs in the ninth.  South Bend had twenty singles and four doubles on Saturday.  The also took advantage of seventeen free base runners on three hit batsmen and fourteen walks.  The final five runs scored by South Bend in the game were scored off position players.  Luiyin Alastre, making his second appearance of the series, allowed a run on a hit in 2/3 of an inning.  Andrick Nava went from catching the first seven innings to pitching the last two.  He allowed four runs on seven hits in two innings.

Kepley, the South Bend lead-off batter, had eight plate appearances in the game.  He was 4-for-7 with three runs and five RBI.  Southisene and Useche both had four hits.  Useche scored five runs.

The kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.

South Bend's Fast Start Slows Rattlers

The South Bend Cubs have made a habit of scoring in the first inning during their series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  The Cubs plated four runs in the first inning on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field and cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Rattlers.

South Bend (19-15) had one run in the first on Tuesday and opened Wednesday’s game with three runs.  Wisconsin (20-15) held the Cubs off the board in the first inning on Thursday, but there was no stopping the Cubs on Friday night.

Kane Kepley and Ty Southisene had back-to-back singles to start the inning to give the Cubs runners at the corners with no outs.  A walk to Cameron Sisneros loaded the bases.  Kade Snell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  Leonel Espinoza followed with a three-run home run for the 4-0 lead.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Travis Smith settled in after the first inning to allow one more hit and no runs over his five innings.

The Rattlers offense struggled against South Bend starting pitcher Cole Reynolds. The lefty didn’t allow a hit until a Josiah Ragsdale single with one out in the bottom of the fifth.  Reynolds would get out of the inning without allowing a run.  He pitched five innings, walked two, hit one, and struck out five as he turned the 4-0 lead over to his bullpen.

Wisconsin put two runners on base with two outs in the bottom of the sixth on singles by Josh Adamczewski and Marco Dinges against Ethan Bell, who got the final out with a strikeout.

The Cubs duo of Kepley and Southisene started a rally in the top of the seventh against Rattler reliever Chandler Welch.  Kepley doubled and Southisene was hit by a pitch to set the table.  Sisneros cleared the table with a long home run to right-center and a 7-0 lead.

Later in the frame, Justin Stransky drove in a run with a triple.

Kepley, who is 10-for-18 with eleven runs scored in the series, added one more run on Friday with a two-out bloop single to drive in Alex Madera in the top of the ninth.

Adam Stone worked the final three innings of the game to earn his first save and hand the Rattlers their second shutout of the season.

Josiah Ragsdale had two of Wisconsin’s four hits on Friday night.

Game five of the series is Saturday afternoon.  Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester is scheduled to make the start for the Timber Rattlers on a Major League Rehabilitation Assignment.  The Cubs have named Jostin Florentino (0-1, 9.82) as their starter.  Game time is 1:10pm.

South Bend Pulls Away Late to Beat Wisconsin

Thursday’s game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and South Bend Cubs at Neuroscience Group Field was tied 6-6 after six innings and heading for an exciting finish.  The Cubs took all the drama out of the final act by scoring four runs in the seventh, nine runs in the eighth, and six runs in the ninth to defeat the Rattlers 25-6.  Matt Halbach led the onslaught by the Cubs by going 5-for-5 with five runs and six RBI.

Wisconsin (20-14) scored three runs after there were two outs and none on in the bottom of the first.  Josh Adamczewski started the rally with a triple.  Eric Bitonti and Josiah Ragsdale extended the inning with walks on full counts.  Daniel Dickinson ripped a double to right to drive home all three runners for the 3-0 lead.

South Bend (18-15) scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to tie the game.  In the fourth, Kane Kepley singled, stole second, and went to third on a ground out.  Cole Mathis drove in Kepley with a sacrifice fly.

Rattlers starting pitcher J.D. Thompson went back out for the fifth.  He walked Halbach, the inning’s lead-off hitter, and was removed from the game as he reached his pitch limit.

Bryan Rivera took over and surrendered a double to Leonel Espinoza.  Alex Madera drove in Halbach with a grounder.  Espinoza scored the tying run from third by just beating a throw from Adamczewski on a sacrifice fly to foul territory by Justin Stransky.

Braylon Payne put the Rattlers back in front with a tape-measure home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth against Kenyi Perez.  Payne’s seventh home run of the season gave Wisconsin a 4-3 lead.  Perez would walk three batters after the homer by Payne, but Wisconsin did not cash in on the opportunity to extend their lead.

That lead would be short-lived.    Kepley started the sixth inning with a walk and a steal of second against Rivera.  There were two outs and Kepley was still at second when Rivera walked Kade Snell with a wild pitch on ball four allowing Kepley to take third base.  Halbach tied the game with an RBI single.  Espinoza put the Cubs in front with another RBI single.  Halbach scored another run when he came home from third on an errant throw to second stolen base by Espinoza.

That 6-4 South Bend lead was erased on two-out rally by Wisconsin in the bottom of the sixth.  Cubs reliever Kevin Valdez struck out the first two batters of the inning before walking David Garcia, giving up a single to Payne, and walking Andrew Fischer.  Adamczewski reached on an infield single to get Garcia home with a throwing error on the play letting Payne score the tying run.

The Cubs kicked their offense into high gear in the top of the seventh against Jose Nova.  Kepley, again, started the inning with a walk and a steal of second base.  A walk and a single loaded the bases.  Snell grounded into a force play at second to drive in Kepley for a 7-6 lead.  Moments later Halbach hit a three-run home run for a 10-6 lead.

South Bend sent thirteen men to the plate in the eighth and scored nine runs on five hits and four walks against Quinton Low and Bjorn Johnson.  Kepley had two RBI singles and two runs scored in the eighth.  The other big blow in the inning was a two-run triple by Christian Olivo.

Infielder Luiyin Alastre was called on to pitch the top of the ninth inning for Wisconsin.  He allowed six runs on eight hits with a walk as the Cubs had twelve batters trek to the plate.  Stransky launched a grand slam in the inning for a 24-6 lead.  Halbach, who was on base seven times with two walks and five hits, drove in the final run of the game with a single.

This was the second time this season the Rattlers have allowed more than twenty runs in a game.  They had lost 24-7 to the Peoria Chiefs at home on April 16.

The Cubs put the lead-off batter on base from the third through the ninth.  They scored at least one run in each of the final six innings.

Adamczewski’s three hits moved his batting average to .337 on the season.  He has eleven multi-hit games this season.  Payne’s three hits marked his ninth multi-hit game and first three-hit game of the season.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers withstood an early offensive outburst from the South Bend Cubs to score five runs in the bottom of the second inning on the way to an 11-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  The teams combined for 22 hits, seventeen walks, and 22 runners left on base.

There was plenty of offense early in the game as the teams combined to score eleven runs in the first three innings.

South Bend (17-15) took the lead two batters into the game.  Lead-off batter Kane Kepley walked and stole second.  Ty Southisene followed with a double and Kepley scored.  A walk and a single loaded the bases with no outs.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Yorman Galindez got two outs with Leonel Espinoza grounding into a 6-4-3 double play with Southisene scoring on the play.  Drew Bowser plated a third run of the inning with a single.

The Rattlers (20-13) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first inning against Cubs starting pitcher Eli Jerzembeck.  Daniel Dickinson drew a one-out walk to force in a run, but that was all the Rattlers would get in the first.

Southisene added an RBI single to his to ledger in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead.

Jerzembeck scuffled in the Wisconsin half of the second as Wisconsin loaded the bases with no outs on a single by Luis Castillo, a double by Blayberg Diaz, and a walk to Braylon Payne.  Consecutive infield singles by Joh Adamczewski and Eric Bitonti with one out pulled the Rattlers to within a run.  The tying run scored on a wild pitch by Jerzembeck.  Tayden Hall gave the Rattlers a 6-4 lead with a two-out, two-run double.

Christian Olivo brought the Cubs to within a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI grounder.  That was the only run allowed by reliever Garrett Hodges, who was making his Midwest League debut.  Hodges hit a batter, walked four, and allowed one hit over his two innings of work.

Hall added to Wisconsin’s lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth.

Braylon Owens took over for Hodges to start the top of the fifth and retired the first two batters of the inning.  Then, Kepley walked and stole second.  Southisene was next and he singled to score Kepley to cut the Rattlers lead to one run again.

Southisene had three hits and three RBI for the Cubs.

Wisconsin added a run on an RBI double by Hall in the sixth and put the game away with three runs in the eighth.  An errant pickoff throw to first let Bitonti score.  Juan Baez capped Wisconsin’s scoring with a two-run homer to left off Alfonso Romero.  Baez had not homered in a game since May 26, 2024 when hit was a member of the Carolina Mudcats.  Coincidentally, Baez hit that Carolina League homer against Alfonso Romero.

Owens shut down the Cubs over the rest of his outing.  The right-hander struck out six and picked up a rare five-inning save, his first save as a professional.

Hall had five RBI in a game on Wednesday afternoon.  The last time he had five RBI in a game was on May 2, 2024 when he was with the Carolina Mudcats in a game against the Columbia Fireflies.

Bitonti and Adamczewski both reached base four times in the game.  Adamczewski had three singles for his tenth multi-hit game of the year.  Bitonti walked twice, singled twice, scored three runs, and stole a base.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  J.D. Thompson (0-0, 7.20) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Ethan Flanagan (0-2, 4.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Cubs.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Cubs Take Game One 10-1 Over Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a rocky return home with a 10-1 loss to the South Bend Cubs on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  A quartet of South Bend pitchers shut down Wisconsin’s potent offense as the Cubs offense collected ten runs on thirteen hits.

South Bend (17-14) scored a run in the top of the first inning.  Kane Kelpley singled on the first pitch of the game, stole second, and went to third on an infield single.  Cole Mathis drove in Kepley with a two-out single for the 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (19-13) answered in the bottom of the first.  Braylon Payne walked, stole second, and took third on a balk.  Josh Adamczewski knocked in Payne with a sacrifice fly.

Kepley gave the Cubs the lead back with a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the second.

The offense went quiet for both teams through the sixth.  Adamczewski singled to start the bottom of the sixth inning for Wisconsin for the Rattlers first hit of the game.

The Cubs pulled away from Wisconsin in the top of the seventh as they scored six runs on three hits, four walks, a hit batsman, and an error.

Cameron Sisneros drove in two runs with bases-loaded single to start the scoring in the frame.  Kade Snell drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-1.  An error and a hit batsman on Christian Olivo added the final two runs of the game.

Wisconsin was held to three hits in the game.  Adamczewski’s single, a double by Payne in the eighth, and David Garcia with a two-out single in the ninth.

The Rattlers were back home after winning the final three games of a series against the Peoria Chiefs in which they scored 34 runs.  Wisconsin’s away record this season is13-5.  The loss on Tuesday dropped their home record to 6-8.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Yorman Galindez (0-2, 6.75) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  South Bend has named Eli Jerzembeck (0-0, 0.00) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Gamblers make 15 picks in Phase 1 of USHL draft

The Green Bay Gamblers had a busy first night of the 2026 USHL draft, making 15 picks in Phase 1.

The Gamblers' first pick was in the third round, which saw them take Bobby Spang. Spang is a wing who is seen as a good shot creator and has the ability to take over during his shift. Their next two picks also went to wings in Jiho Song and Tyler LaDuca.

The Gamblers then added two centers in Mason Bricker and Thomas Boisvert. Scouts say both of these players have great two-way upside and add needed depth to the Gamblers' roster.

The Gamblers spent their next few picks on a group of forwards highlighted by Adam Hlavá?ek, a strong scorer from Czechia. The other forwards include Brayden Hekle, Adam Erstad, Carter Schoegler, and Riley Wolkove.

Also making additions on the defensive side, the Gamblers scooped up Micah Socha, who was one of the top-rated defenders available. Jonathan Cooper, son of Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, Gunnar Lager, and Garrett Sutton rounded out the defensemen.  Green Bay, with its final pick, scooped up goaltender Connor Reed.

Bays start and end strong against A's on 105.1 The GOAT

Sister Bay scored four runs in the first two innings and three in the final two innings of an 8-3 win over Baileys Harbor on Sunday.

The Bays took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before tacking on three more in the second inning as they took advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch. The A's and the Bays traded runs in the middle innings with Baileys Harbor countering Sister Bay's RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Stewart Larsen with Caleb Plzak's RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and a run-scoring single by Chris Lodl. The Bays outscored the A's 3-1 in the final two innings with Larsen and Casey Weddig singling in runs and the A's scratching across the run amidst a ninth inning rally.

The Bays were led by Spencer Krause, who went 4-4 with an RBI. Larsen had two hits while four others recorded one. Alex Laughlin, Sawyer Johnson, Larsen (2), and Krause all registered at least one RBI. Sam Forkert earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits with five strikeouts across seven innings.

Patrick Haase, Bryce Plzak, Lodl, and Justin Hartel all recorded hits for the A's with Lodl, Caleb Plzak, and Gavin Blink getting credit for the RBI. Danny Lodl took the loss in the complete game effort, allowing eight runs (6 ER) on 10 hits while striking out 11.

High five fourth gives Braves win over Cubs

Kolberg scored nine unanswered runs en route to a 9-1 win over Institute on opening day on Sunday.

The Cubs struck first when Arthur Hocevar drove in Jared Pflieger on a groundout to make it 1-0. The Braves tallied single runs in the first, second, and third innings before collecting five runs in the fourth inning. That frame was highlighted by RBI hits from Nick LeCaptain and Tyler Neinas. A run-scoring single from Devin Schinktgen provided the Braves an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth ahead of nerve wracking top of the ninth that saw the Cubs draw three walks, but unable to score a run.

Neinas led the Braves with two hits and three RBI while Schinktgen (3), Charlie Neinas (1), and LeCaptain (1) recorded RBI as well. Trevor Reinhardt earned the win with five strikeouts and no hits or runs allowed across two innings.

For the Cubs, Sam Zirbel and Robbie Pollman recorded the lone hits to go along with Hocevar's RBI. Nelson Demmin was the pitcher of record for the Cubs, allowing seven runs (7 ER) on four hits with two strike outs across 3.1 innings.

Big sixth inning lifts Ports past Mets

West Jacksonport scored seven runs in the sixth inning to help them score an 11-8 opening day win over Maplewood on Sunday.

The Mets led the game 3-1 before the Ports started to take control of the game. They took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs on a Max Bordeau home run. After giving it up in the sixth, the Ports took the lead back with a C.J. Goetz grand slam the frame's biggest blow. The Mets scored twice to chip away at the deficit courtesy of a wild pitch and a single by Jaden Diller before a pop out ended the game with the tying run at the plate.

Drew Tanck, Luke Steebs, Will Schartner, Goetz, and Bordeau all had two hits in the game with Goetz's five RBI leading the Ports. Tanck earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (0 ER) on six hits while striking out four across the final 3.2 innings.

The loss spoiled a 3-6, one RBI day for Gutschow for the Ports, which also received multi-hit games from Diller, Kody Kissinger, and Matthew Malvitz. Will Jandrin took the loss for the Ports, allowing seven runs (3 ER) on six hits across three innings of work with three strike outs.

Late offensive onslaught helps Islanders down Indians

Washington Island scored 15 runs after the seventh inning to sprint past Egg Harbor 18-8 on Sunday.

After Ben Geiger and Ray McDonald gave the Islanders a 3-0 first inning lead, the Indians scored eight unanswered runs, highlighted by extra base hits by Brody Kollath and Cody Giesseman. Trailing 8-3, the Islanders took the lead in the sixth inning with seven runs, six of which came after the Indians turned a double play after the first three batters reached. The Islanders poured it on from there, scoring another six runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to trigger the early ending.

The Islanders were led Ben Geiger's 4-6 performance that saw him drive in three runs. Luke Geiger, Ben Johnson, McDonald, Matt Foss, and Alex Johnson drove in a pair. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on two hits across four innings while striking out three.

For the Indians, Cory Fuller, Giesseman, and Nick Posh all had two hits with Fuller (2), Kollath (1), Cole Frangipane (1), and Connor Mueller (1), driving in runs. Brady Kita took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (7 ER) on 10 hits across 5.2 innings while striking out two.

Fischer & Bitonti Lead the Way to a Wisconsin Win

Andrew Fischer and Eric Bitonti had amazing offensive days for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday against the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park.  Both just missed on a cycle but powered the Rattlers to their third consecutive win, a 15-8 victory to close out a series victory over the Chiefs.

Fischer tripled, hit two homers, scored four runs, and drove in five as he went 4-for-6.  Bitonti was 5-for-5 with a walk, a homer, two doubles, two RBI, and scored three runs.

Wisconsin (19-12) ambushed Peoria starting pitcher Leonel Sequera with five runs on five hits in the first inning.  Marco Dinges singled with one out.  Fischer tripled off the top of the wall in right to drive in Dinges.  Bitonti ripped a single to center to score Fischer.  Later in the inning, Blayberg Diaz stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded.  Diaz drove a double to the wall in right to knock in all three runners for a 5-0 lead.

Won-Bin Cho got the Chiefs (14-18) on the scoreboard with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second.

Bitonti blasted a solo homer, his fifth of the season, in the third inning for Wisconsin.  In the fourth, Alastre had an RBI triple with Fischer crushing a two-run home run to right for an 9-2 lead.

The Chiefs took advantage of a bout of wildness from Rattlers reliever Jose Nova in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Three walks, a throwing error, and seven wild pitches by Nova allowed three runs to score and cut Wisconsin’s lead to 9-5.

The Rattler bats went right back to work.

In the sixth inning, Fischer and Bitonti singled to start the inning.  Josiah Ragsdale drove in Fischer with a single.  Luis Castillo doubled to score Bitonti and Ragsdale for the 13-5 lead.

In the seventh, Fischer had a runner on base and needed a double for the cycle.  Instead, he crushed a home run out of the stadium to right field for a 15-5 lead.

The Chiefs chipped away with a two-out, RBI single by Josh Kross in the seventh, and a two-out, two-run home run by Tai Peete in the eighth.   They would get no closer.

Bitonti was at the plate in the top of the ninth inning and needed a triple for the cycle.  He drilled a pitch off the top of the wall in right, but the carom dropped down to Peete and Bitonti had to settle for his second double of the game.

The Timber Rattlers collected nineteen hits in the game, the most by the team since the franchise moved to the High-A Classification prior to the 2021 season.

Bitonti became the first Timber Rattlers to have five hits in game since Sal Frelick, who have five in a game against the Quad Cities River Bandits on April 20, 2022.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They will be back in action on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field against the South Bend Cubs.  Wande Torres (2-1, 6.35) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Dinges Delivers a Wisconsin Win with Late Home Run

Marco Dinges drove in four runs for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night at Dozer Park against the Peoria Chiefs.  His two-out, three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning capped a five-run rally for the Rattlers to send them to a 7-5 victory over the Chiefs.

Peoria (14-17) had the lead two batters into the bottom of the first inning.  Tai Peete doubled to start the frame.  Rainiel Rodriguez drove in Peete with a bloop single to right for the 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin (18-12) tied the game in the third.  Luiyin Alastre singled with one out.  Braylon Payne doubled to send Alastre to third.  Dinges knocked in Alastre with a grounder to second.

The Chiefs went back in front in the bottom of the third.  Tre Richardson reached on a bunt single as the lead-off batter and stole second as Wisconsin pitcher Ethan Dorchies struck out Rodriguez for the second out.  Jesús Báez lined the next pitch to left for an RBI single to score Richardson.

Dorchies retired eight batters in a row from third inning through the first batter of the sixth.  That streak ended when he hit Cade McGee with one out in the sixth.  A single by Jesús Suárez put two runners on base for the Chiefs.  Then, Won-Bin Cho hit the next pitch off the batter’s eye above the wall in center for a 5-1 lead.

The Rattlers responded in the top of the sixth.  Daniel Dickinson drew a lead-off walk against reliever Gerardo Salas.  Luis Castillo lined a homer to left, his second home run of the season, to pull Wisconsin to within two runs.  David Garcia and Alastre both singled with one out to set the stage for Dinges, who stepped to the plate with two outs.

Dinges jumped on the first pitch from Salas and hit a towering drive to right that easily cleared the fence for a three-run blast and a 6-5 Wisconsin lead.  The homer was the fifth of the season for Dinges.  It was his first since April 26.

Alastre added an insurance run in the top of the eighth when he drew a bases-loaded walk.  Not that the Wisconsin bullpen needed an insurance run.

Quinton Low, who got the final out of the bottom of the sixth, pitched a perfect seventh and a perfect eighth.  Yerlin Rodriguez, in his first save opportunity of the season, struck out the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game.

The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.  Jason Woodward (0-0, 2.18) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Chiefs have named Leonel Sequera (2-2, 5.86) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 2:05pm.

Door County League Set for Mother's Day Opener as a Century of Baseball Continues

The opening day schedule for May 10 features four 1:30 p.m. matchups: Institute at Kolberg, Maplewood at West Jacksonport, Egg Harbor at Washington Island, and Sister Bay at Baileys Harbor.

The marquee matchup of the afternoon takes place at Ernald O Viste Field in Baileys Harbor, where the home-team Athletics host the Sister Bay Bays in the legendary "Grudge" rivalry, a fierce Northern Door competition that dates back decades. Fans unable to attend can tune in to 105.1 The GOAT, where Bryan Mazur and Adam Collins will provide live play-by-play coverage, presented by NEW Radio Sports Network and Door County Media Group.

The league today consists of eight teams, the Baileys Harbor A’s, Egg Harbor Indians, Institute Cubs, Kolberg Braves, Maplewood Mets, Sister Bay Bays, Washington Island Islanders, and West Jacksonport Ports.

In recent years, the league has been dominated by Kolberg and Sister Bay. No other team has won either a league championship or a playoff trophy this decade.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers used the long ball to beat the Peoria Chiefs Wednesday night at Dozer Park.  The Midwest League leaders in homers hit four solo shots and received solid pitching to record an 8-5 victory over the Chiefs.

The Timber Rattlers (16-11) scored twice with two outs in the top of the second inning.  Josiah Ragsdale started the inning with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and stole third.  David Garcia drove in Ragsdale with an infield single.  Luiyin Alastre kept the inning alive with a walk.  Then, Braylon Payne singled to center to knock in Garcia for a 2-0 lead.

Peoria (13-15) got right back into the game in the bottom of the third.   Josh Kross hit a solo homer with one out.  Cade McGee singled and Jesús Suárez followed with a two-run homer for a 3-2 lead.

Tayden Hall tied the game in the top of the fourth with a lead-off home run to center.  Andrew Fischer put the Rattler back in front with a two-out, RBI double to score Luiyin Alastre.  The double by Fischer ended an 0-for-13 streak at the plate.

The Chiefs evened the score in their half of the fourth.  Won-Bin Cho hustled a single into a double with one out and went to third on a flyout to right.  A wild pitch by Wande Torres on an 0-2 pitch allowed Cho to score the tying run.

Hall gave the Rattlers the lead in the top of the fifth.  Ragsdale had walked, stole second, and moved to third on a passed ball.  Hall lined a single to center to score Ragsdale for the 5-4 lead.

Fischer and Josh Adamczewski extended the Wisconsin advantage in the sixth inning with back-to-back solo homers with two outs.

Torres went back out for the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off walk before retiring the next two batters.  He would leave the game with a runner at third and a 7-4 lead.

Jose Cordoba welcomed reliever Jack Seppings to the game with a single to center and the Rattlers lead was down to two runs.

Ragsdale provided some insurance with a lead-off homer in the top of the eighth.  It was his third home run of the season.   Ragsdale went 2-for-3 with two walks, two stolen bases, and three runs scored in the game.

Seppings worked a scoreless seventh, eighth, and ninth to close out the game for his first save of the season.

Torres allowed five runs on seven hits but walked just two while striking out five over 5-2/3 innings to earn his second win of the season.

Wisconsin had their second four-homer game as a team this season with the quartet of blasts on Wednesday.  The Rattlers lead the Midwest League in homers with 37.

Peoria Pounces in Fourth Inning and Pulls Away from Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers let an early lead get away from them and they wound up on the short end of a 5-3 loss to the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Josh Adamczewski put the Timber Rattlers (15-11) in front with a lead-off home run in the top of the second inning.  The homer was his sixth of the season.  Wisconsin has hit 33 homers as a team in 26 games.

Rainiel Rodriguez tied the game for the Chiefs (13-14) with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Chandler Welch got the next two batters but struggled to find the final out of the fourth as a walk and two singles loaded the bases.  Won-Bin Cho put Peoria in front with a two-run single.

Both teams traded runs in in the fifth.

Wisconsin pulled to within a run on an RBI double by Tayden Hall to score Josiah Ragsdale.  Blayberg Diaz put runners on the corners with a two-out, infield single, but both runners were left stranded.

Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, stole second, and went to third on a grounder.  Wisconsin brought their infield in with Jesús Báez at the plate.  Báez hit a sharp grounder to Andrew Fischer at third.  The throw to the plate was in plenty of time to get Rodriguez.  However, Diaz didn’t catch the ball cleanly, and Rodriguez scored as the ball trickled away from the Wisconsin catcher.

Peoria added to their lead in the sixth inning.  Cho walked, stole second, and went to third on a flyout to right.  Tai Pete singled through the drawn-in infield to drive in the insurance run for a 5-2 lead.

Hall singled with one out in the seventh.  Braylon Payne followed with a single to center with Hall taking third.  A sloppy flip from Báez at short to second base got away from Cade McGee to allow Hall to score on the error.  The Rattlers would get no one else to reach base for the remainder of the game.

Five Peoria pitchers combined to strike out sixteen Rattlers in the game.

Game two of the series is set for Wednesday night at Dozer Park.  Wande Torres (1-1, 5.82) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Blake Aita (0-2, 5.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Chiefs.  Game time at Dozer Park is 6:35pm CDT.

"The University has been amazing to work with and they understand the opportunity in front of us and what this team means for the city. Bandits End Series with 12-3 Win over Wisconsin

Asbel Gonzalez and Derlin Figueroa both homered twice for the Quad Cities River Bandits in Sunday’s 12-3 over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field.

The River Bandits (13-10) took the lead in the top of the second inning on a two-out, RBI single from Erick Torres.

Eric Bitonti tied the game with a lead-off line drive home run to the Wisconsin bullpen in the bottom of the second.  Daniel Dickinson followed with an infield single.  Then, Josiah Ragsdale doubled off the wall in left.  A poor throw to the infield got away from the Bandits and Dickinson scored the go-ahead run for the Rattlers (14-10).

Quad Cities went back in front in the top of the fourth.  Luke Pelzer started the inning with a triple.  Jose Cerice tied the game with a ground-rule double to right.   Wisconsin brought the infield in with Cerice at third and one out.  A grounder to short off the bat of Tyriq Kemp was mishandled for an error to let Cerice score to go-ahead run.  Later in the inning, Angel Acosta’s two-out single scored Kemp for a 4-2 lead.

The Bandits added to their lead in the fifth against Jason Woodward and Michael Fowler.  Gonzalez hit a lead-off home run against Woodward.  Blake Mitchell reached on a hit batsman.  Then, Pelzer hit a line drive off Woodward’s right forearm.  Woodward was able to get the out at first but left the game before facing the next batter.

Fowler got the second out but gave up a two-run home run for Figueroa and the Rattlers were down 7-2.

Miscommunication on a play at first base with two outs in the top of the seventh allowed the Bandits to extend the inning as they had runners at second and third instead of Fowler being out of the inning.  A wild pitch let in the first run.  Kemp followed with an RBI single.

Gonzalez went deep again in the eighth.  This time it was a two-run home run off Bjorn Johnson.  Gonzalez hit three home runs in the series.

Wisconsin’s offense was virtually silent from the third inning through the seventh.  Josh Adamczewski has a two-out single in the third and a walk in the sixth to be the only Rattler to reach base in that span.

Adamczewski had a hand in Wisconsin’s run in the bottom of the eighth.  Braylon Payne singled and Marco Dinges walked to start the frame.  Adamczewski singled with one away to score Payne.  The next two hitters were retired to stop the Rattler rally.

Figueroa put a cap on the scoring with his second home run of the game, a one-out, solo shot in the ninth against Quinton Low.

The River Bandits hit eleven homer runs in the six-game series as they won four of the six games.  They have hit seventeen homers in twelve games against the Rattlers this season.

Ragsdale and Adamczewski each had two hits in the game for the Rattlers.  Sunday was Adamczewski’s eighth multi-hit game of the season for Wisconsin.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with game one of a series against the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.  Chandler Welch (3-0, 4.09) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Timber Rattlers.

Wild finish pushes Blizzard to third straight win

The Green Bay Blizzard picked up a wild one Friday night, holding off the Fishers Freight 57-52 to move to 6-1 on the season.

Liam Thompson was the engine behind everything for Green Bay, throwing for 209 yards and three touchdowns while adding three more scores on the ground. He finished 17-of-22 through the air and tacked on 48 rushing yards, giving him six total touchdowns on the night.

Isaac Ross led the receiving corps with six catches for 73 yards and a score, while Draysean Hudson hauled in four balls for 65 yards. Terrell Carey chipped in five receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown as well.

The Blizzard were the more efficient team on offense, racking up 297 total yards compared to 230 for Fishers, and controlled the clock with over 43 minutes of possession. Franky West Jr. led the defense with seven tackles.

It wasn’t without some drama though. Green Bay saw the Freight hang 52 points and pull within striking distance in the fourth quarter before the Blizzard put it away.

The Blizzard will look to keep it rolling in week 9 when they host the Quad City Steamwheelers Friday, May 8th at 7pm at the Resch.

Wisconsin Beats Bandits 2-1 for Second Straight Win

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers didn’t need a dramatic last-inning comeback to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits on Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  They received key hits from Josiah Ragsdale and a strong combined effort on the mound from J.D. Thompson and Travis Smith to beat the Bandits 2-1.

Thompson, the second round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 draft, made his pro debut in the game.  He was the starting pitcher for Wisconsin and allowed one hit with no walks and three strikeouts over three scoreless innings.  Smith took over in the fourth inning and pitched the rest of the way for the Rattlers as he scattered five hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.

Quad Cities (13-10) nearly broke through in the top of the fifth inning against Smith.  Derlin Figueroa doubled to start the inning against Travis Smith.  Tyriq Kemp singled to left with one out and Figueroa tried to score from second.  Left fielder Luis Castillo made a one-hop throw to the plate to catch Figueroa for the second out.  Smith would get the final out of the inning on a routine flyout to right.

Wisconsin (15-9) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  Bandits starting pitcher Josh Hansell was perfect through four innings.  Then, Ragsdale hit a lead-off home run to left to start the fifth for a 1-0 lead.

Ragsdale doubled to start the bottom of the seventh against Quad Cities reliever Tanner Jones and was standing a third with two outs.  Jones walked David Garcia to extend the inning, and Castillo took advantage of the opportunity by grounding a single through the left side of the infield to score Ragsdale with an insurance run.

Smith went out for the ninth inning and retired the first batter of the inning on a popup.  Austin Charles was next and he tightened up the game with a solo home run to left.  Smith regrouped and struck out the next two batters to close out the Wisconsin victory.

Saturday was the second straight game for a Timber Rattlers reliever to pitch six innings.  Braylon Owens struck out eleven and allowed one run over his six innings of work on Friday night in Wisconsin’s ten-inning, 6-5 win over Quad Cities.

This was the fastest game of the season for the Rattlers as it was played in one hour and fifty-eight minutes.

The series finale is Sunday at Neuroscience Group Field.  The pitching matchup is a rematch from the first game of the series last Tuesday with Ethan Dorchies (1-3, 7.71) for the Timber Rattlers and Emmanuel Reyes (1-0, 1.13) for the River Bandits.  Game time is 1:10pm.

Demilon Brown picked up 41 yards and two touchdowns on his feet, also going for 9 receiving yards and a touchdown. Timber Rattlers swept by River Bandits in twin bill

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers dropped a pair of contests against the Quad Cities River Bandits on Thursday.

The Quad Cities River Bandits quick start in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field set the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers back on their heels and on the path to an 11-5 loss.

The River Bandits (12-8) grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning on four walks and one hit.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Bryce Meccage walked three straight batters with one out.  He got the second out before walking Austin Charles on a 3-2 pitch to force in the first run.  Then, Derlin Figueroa cleared the bases with a double for a 4-0 lead.

Quad Cities poured on the offense in the second inning as they launched four home runs and scored six runs.  Tyriq Kemp started the inning with a homer.  Meccage left the game with two on and one out in favor of Bryan Rivera, who gave up a three-run home run to Ramon Ramirez.  Rivera got the second out of the inning but allowed back-to-back home runs to Austin Charles and Figueroa.

Charles tripled with two outs in the top of the fourth and scored on a wild pitch.  Charles reached base three times and scored three runs.

Wisconsin (13-8) had three runners on base with two outs for Juan Baez, who drew the fourth walk of the frame from Bandits starting pitcher Mason Miller.

Andrew Fischer launched his fifth home run of the season with two outs and none on in the bottom of the fifth for Wisconsin.  That started a streak of four straight hits for the Rattlers with Daniel Dickinson knocking in the second run of the frame with a single.

Fischer reached base for the fourth time in the game with a lead-off double in the bottom of the seventh.  Eric Bitonti cracked a one-out home run to center, his third homer of the season, to drive in Fischer for the final two runs of the game.

David Shields and two Quad Cities River Bandits relief pitchers combined on a two-hit, 8-0 shutout in game two of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field.  The performance by the trio of hurlers allowed the Bandits to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Rattlers.

Quad Cities (13-8) scored first for the third straight game of the series when they scored three runs in the top of the third inning in the nightcap.  A bloop single and a pair of one-out walks from Wisconsin starter Wande Torres loaded the bases for the Bandits.  Ramon Ramirez blooped in a single to left to drive in the first run.  Jose Cerice followed with a sacrifice fly.  Luke Pelzer had a two-out, RBI single to make it 3-0.

The Bandits added to their lead in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Cerice.

In the top of the sixth, Wisconsin pitchers allowed a single walked four, hit a battler, and threw a wild pitch as Quad Cities added three more runs.  Michael Fowler walked Blake Mitchell and Ramirez with the bases loaded and two outs to force in two runs.  Yerlin Rodriguez relieved Fowler and threw a wild pitch to allow the final run to score before he got the third out.

Wisconsin (13-9) had two hits and five base runners in the game.  Luiyin Alastre singled with two outs in the third inning.  Luis Castillo had a lead-off single in the fifth.   There were three walks and a hit batsman to account for the other Rattlers to reach base.

Shields pitched five scoreless innings, walked two, allowed both hits, and struck out six to earn his second win of the season.  Kamden Edge and Yimi Presinal each tossed a scoreless inning out of the Quad Cities bullpen to close out the game.

Game two of the doubleheader marked the first time the Rattlers have been shutout this season.

The series continues at Neuroscience Group Field on Friday night.  Wisconsin has named Yorman Galindez (0-2, 7.27) as their starting pitcher.  Quad Cities will go with Justin Lamkin (1-0, 1.02).  First pitch is set for 6:40pm.
