Big sixth inning lifts Ports past Mets

West Jacksonport scored seven runs in the sixth inning to help them score an 11-8 opening day win over Maplewood on Sunday.

The Mets led the game 3-1 before the Ports started to take control of the game. They took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs on a Max Bordeau home run. After giving it up in the sixth, the Ports took the lead back with a C.J. Goetz grand slam the frame's biggest blow. The Mets scored twice to chip away at the deficit courtesy of a wild pitch and a single by Jaden Diller before a pop out ended the game with the tying run at the plate.

Drew Tanck, Luke Steebs, Will Schartner, Goetz, and Bordeau all had two hits in the game with Goetz's five RBI leading the Ports. Tanck earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (0 ER) on six hits while striking out four across the final 3.2 innings.

The loss spoiled a 3-6, one RBI day for Gutschow for the Ports, which also received multi-hit games from Diller, Kody Kissinger, and Matthew Malvitz. Will Jandrin took the loss for the Ports, allowing seven runs (3 ER) on six hits across three innings of work with three strike outs.
