Blizzard OL Clark Retires

The Green Bay Blizzard is saying good bye to one of its stalwart players due to retirement.

OL Trent Clark announced this week that he was retiring from professional football after playing for the Blizzard the past two season. During his time on the line, the Blizzard posted a 21-12 record. He was a critical part of an offensive line that allowed the third-fewest sacks in back-to-back seasons.

Gamblers ring in New Year vs. Cedar Rapids

The Green Bay Gamblers will celebrate the end of 2024 with their traditional New Year's Eve game Tuesday night against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders.

In their last game, the Gamblers held on to beat the Madison Capitols 2-1 in overtime to steal a sweep of their in-state rivals Saturday night at the Resch Center. The tightly contested game would see no scoring until William Samuelsson lit the lamp more than seven minutes into the third period. The Capitols would tie the game seven minutes later, and the game entered the extra period deadlocked at one. Lukas Peterson took care of business quickly for the Gamblers, registering the game-winner 21 seconds into overtime.

The Rough Riders are 3-3 in December, including a series split against Dubuque last weekend. They won the first game 6-3 before falling in the second game 4-3.

The puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Glory wrap up tryouts on Friday

The Green Bay Glory will try to set their rosters following their final day of tryouts on Friday.

The Glory held their first two days of tryouts last weekend as the Glory men look to build on their promotion last season and the Glory women hope to build on its past success.

Packers-Bears set for noon Sunday

The Green Bay Packers will wrap up the regular season against the Chicago Bears early this Sunday.

The NFL announced the Week 18 slate shortly after the final game on Sunday as they look to set the best games in the prime spots. With the Packers destined for a lower seed in the NFC Playoff and the Bears merely fighting for a better draft pick, the NFL's oldest rivalry will be played at noon on Sunday.

Saturday's games will feature the Ravens hosting the Browns (3:30 p.m.) and the Bengals visiting the Steelers (7 p.m.). The late afternoon games on Sunday will see the Rams host the Seahawks, the Chargers visit the Raiders, the Jets welcome the Dolphins, the 49ers head to the Cardinals, and Broncos play at home against the Chiefs. The NFC North will be decided in primetime as the Lions and the Vikings meet in Detroit.

Packers come up short again vs. Vikings

For the second time this season, the Green Bay Packers dug themselves a hole they would not be able to dig out of against the Minnesota Vikings, this time a 27-25 loss on Sunday in Minneapolis.

The Packers took an early lead thanks to a Brandon McManus field goal, but they lost a fumble and were stopped on fourth and short, which allowed the Vikings to score the next 20 points and take a 20-3 lead into the locker room.

Josh Jacobs would cut the lead in half late in the third quarter on a short touchdown run, only to see the Vikings score a touchdown on the next drive. The Packers would score twice in the final 6:30 thanks to an Emmanuel Wilson rushing score and a three-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Malik Wilson, but they would remain porous on defense as they allowed Sam Darnold to find Cam Akers on a game-clinching third down conversion to seal the game for the Vikings.

Love ended the day 19-for-30 for 185 yards and a touchdown, most of which came late in the second half. Jacobs ran for 69 yards on the ground as the Packers' rushing game once again topped 100 yards. Darnold picked apart the Packers' banged-up secondary, throwing for over 370 yards and three touchdowns.

The Packers will face the Chicago Bears in their regular season finale at Lambeau Field on Sunday at noon.

Two venues, one loss for Phoenix men vs. Mastodons

On Sunday, the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team saw plenty of change in a short period of time, but it resulted in another loss, this time an 83-67 decision to Purdue Fort Wayne.

Power outage issues forced the game at the Resch Center to be delayed first by 20 minutes before it was eventually delayed for almost two hours as it was moved to the Kress Events Center. It didn't change the result, as the Phoenix fell behind early before a 15-0 run by the Mastodons put them in a hole they would never be able to dig out of. The 20-point halftime advantage would grow to as much as 23 points before the Phoenix posted an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit before the Mastodons held them at bay the rest of the way.

Preston Ruedinger led the way for the Phoenix with 12 points. Ryan Wade added 11 points, while Ben Tweedy and Marcus Hall chipped in nine. Quinton Morton-Robertson led all scorers with 16 points for the Mastodons.

The Phoenix will hit the road this week for a pair of games, beginning with Wright State on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a trip to Northern Kentucky on Saturday for a noon tip.

Packers look to avenge early-season defeat to Vikings

The Green Bay Packers will have pride and playoff seeding on the line Sunday afternoon when they play the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The Packers posted the NFL's first shutout on Monday Night Football in their last game, a 34-0 drubbing of the New Orleans Saints. Jordan Love made 16 completions for 186 yards and a score, while the running game took the load of the work for the Packers, accumulating 188 yards on nearly 40 carries. Josh Jacobs led the way with 69 yards on 13 carries to go with his 38 receiving yards on four receptions. The Packers' defense recorded two turnovers and three sacks while allowing less than 200 yards of offense.

The Vikings are on an eight-game winning streak since their last loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Last week, the Vikings outlasted the Seattle Seahawks 27-24 on the road behind 246 passing yards and three touchdowns from Sam Darnold, two of which went to Justin Jefferson as a part of his 10-catch, 144-yard day.

In the matchup, the Vikings jumped out to a 28-0 lead before holding off the Packers to win 31-29. The two teams play Sunday at 3:25 p.m.

Phoenix men look to begin turnaround against PFW

After entering the holiday break on a forgettable note, the Green Bay Phoenix men hope to start a streak of a different kind on Sunday when they play Purdue Fort Wayne at the Resch Center.

The last time the Phoenix played, they came off a close loss to Michigan Tech and battled Drake tough, but ultimately came up empty with a 72-62 loss on Saturday night in Des Moines. The game was absent of its usual second-half swoon, marking a possible turn of their season's misfortune. Instead, a 15-2 run midway through the first half sank the Phoenix. In Anthony Roy's absence, Mac Wrecke had his best night in a Phoenix uniform as he scored a career-high 19 points. Preston Ruedinger (14 points) and Marcus Hall (10 points) also finished double figures for the Phoenix.

The Mastodons have won four of their last five with a 89-58 loss to Michigan before the holidays the lone blemish during that span. They are tied for fourth place in the Horizon League with a 2-1 mark and currently sit at 9-5 on the season.

Because of the Packers, the game has been moved from a 4 p.m. tip to a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.

Gamblers top Capitols in OT thriller

The Green Bay Gamblers held on to beat the Madison Capitols 2-1 in overtime to steal a sweep of their in-state rivals Saturday night at the Resch Center.

Gamblers' return features hat trick

The Green Bay Gamblers' Mykhailo Danylov scored at least one goal in every period of their 4-1 win over the Madison Capitols Friday night at the Resch Center.

Danylov got the Gamblers on the scoreboard three minutes into the first period, with teammate Vasily Zelenov breaking a 1-1 tie midway through the second period. He would tally his second and third goals late in the second and third periods, respectively, with the final tally coming on an empty netter. Gavin Moffatt picked up the win, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced.

The two teams face each other again Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.

Packers shut down Saints

The Green Bay Packers led wire-to-wire, recording the NFL's first shutout of the season, beating the New Orleans Saints.

The Packers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, with Dontayvion Wicks catching a quick pass from Jordan Love while Josh Jacobs and Chris Brooks broke the line for the other two. Meanwhile, two punts and a fumble made the first half forgettable for the Saints, which gained only 81 yards.

The Packers were not as prolific in the second half, but just as effective as Brandon McManus banged in two field goals to put the Packers up 27-0 midway through the fourth quarter. With Malik Willis behind center, the Packers lit the fireworks one more time as Emmanuel Wilson found the endzone from one yard out to give them their final margin of victory.

Love made 16 completions for 186 yards and a score, while the running game took the load of the work for the Packers, accumulating 188 yards on nearly 40 carries. Jacobs led the way with 69 yards on 13 carries to go with his 38 receiving yards on four receptions. The Packers' defense recorded two turnovers and three sacks while allowing less than 200 yards of offense.

The Packers will face a more formidable task on a short week when they play in Minnesota to face the Vikings at 3:25 p.m. Sunday.

Phoenix men move Sunday tip time

When it comes to the schedule, as the Green Bay Packers go, so do the Green Bay basketball teams.

The Green Bay Packers' noon matchup against the Minnesota Vikings was flexed to 3:25 p.m. as the two teams battle for seeding in the upcoming NFC playoffs. As a result, the Phoenix men's game on Sunday was moved from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate fans who may want to get home in time to watch the game on TV.

If you already have your tickets, those will be valid at the gate on game day.

Phoenix men enter holiday break on skid

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team will have a week to regroup after all eyes were focused on them following a shocking 72-70 loss to Michigan Tech last week.

The Phoenix men ended the week with a 72-62 loss to undefeated Drake on Saturday night in Des Moines.

The Phoenix return to action on December 29th at 4 p.m. for a tilt against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons.

Packers play under the lights against Saints Monday

The Green Bay Packers will try to make a holiday night statement on Monday when they welcome the New Orleans Saints to Lambeau Field.

The Packers have won four of their last five games, including last Sunday's 31-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Jordan Love's night ended with him going 20-27 for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs led a rushing attack that accumulated 140 yards on the night as he rushed for 94 yards on 26 attempts. The Packers were also able to get to the quarterback, especially after Geno Smith's injury in the second half forced Sam Howell into action. The team registered seven sacks and two interceptions, including two sacks from Kingsley Engabare and picks from Edgerrin Cooper and Carrington Valentine.

The Saints are without many of their offensive weapons, including starting quarterback Derek Carr, running back Alvin Kamara, and tight end Taysom Hill. Despite that, they have won three of their last five games.

Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.

Phoenix basketball wrap up non-conference play Saturday

The Horizon League will be the sole focus moving forward after the Green Bay Phoenix women and men return to action on Saturday.

The Phoenix women open the day with a 1 p.m. tip against UW-Parkside. They are coming off of a win against another Wisconsin-based D-3 school, Ripon College on Thursday.

The Phoenix men will try to snap a long losing skid when they play at Drake at 5 p.m. They allowed Division 2 Michigan Tech to climb back from 13 down to beat them 72-70 in front of 5200 fans at the Resch Center.

Both teams will play Horizon League rivals the rest of the way after Saturday's matchups.

Packers looking healthy ahead of Saints game

The Green Bay Packers' injury list keeps getting shorter at a crucial part of the season.

Five Packers players appeared on the Thursday injury list, with S Javon Bullard (ankle) and LB Quay Walker (ankle) the only ones who did not practice. Corey Ballentine (knee) and Luke Musgrave (ankle) were limited participants, while Jaire Alexander (knee) was a full participant. The Saints' injury report was a little longer at eight players and more dire with five players not practicing.

The Packers and the Saints will play each other on Monday night football.

Phoenix women rip Red Hawks

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team started both halves strong to blow out Ripon on Thursday night 75-42.

The Phoenix women outscored the Red Hawks 23-7 in the first quarter and 20-7 at the beginning of the third quarter to set the tone for the rest of the half. Ten different Phoenix players scored in the game, including five that reached double figures. Natalie McNeal led the way with 15 points, and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz added 14 points, while Cassie Schiltz, Callie Genke, and Jenna Guyer all chipped in 10 points. Ella Ten Pas and McKenzie Bestor scored 10 points apiece in the loss for the Red Hawks.

The Phoenix women will battle UW-Parkside in a Saturday matinee.

Cooper named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper made a little history this week when he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Cooper was honored for his performance against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, registering five tackles (two for loss), two passes defended, a sack, and an interception. It was the second time he was honored for his play this season, with the first time coming after recording eight tackles, a strip-sack, and a pass deflection in the Packers victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. Cooper becomes the first Packers player to earn the award twice in a season since Clay Matthews recorded the feat in 2010. He is also the first rookie to do so since the award started in 1984.

The Packers play again on Monday night at Lambeau Field against the New Orleans Saints.

Phoenix men limp to loss against D-2 Huskies

Things went from bad to worse for the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team on Wednesday afternoon, as they lost to Division 2 Michigan Tech 72-70.

Even playing without its best player due to injury, the Phoenix men seemed destined to snap a season-long losing skid on the back of Jeremiah Johnson, the freshman point guard trying to fill the shoes of Anthony Roy. The Phoenix led by 10 points at halftime and by as much as 13 points early in the second half before it suffered another scoreless drought that has drowned hope so often this season. The Huskies outscored the Phoenix 11-2 late in the half to take a slim lead before the two teams traded single-point advantages. Playing in front of his home fans, the Huskies' Marcus Tomashek of Ashwaubenon, Wis. drilled a three-pointer and crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the upset. Tomashek finished the game with 30 points, while Dawson Nordgaard of De Pere, Wis., registered another 10 points. Johnson ended his day for the Phoenix with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while Marcus Hall added 17 points, and Mac Wrecke chipped in 10 points. One of the other team's stars, Preston Ruedinger, was forced to leave the game early due to injury.

For Phoenix fans looking for a palate cleanser, the women play at home Thursday against Ripon College at 6 p.m. before both teams play again on Saturday. The men play at Drake at 5 p.m. while the women are at home against UW-Parkside at 1 p.m.

Phoenix basketball look to put rough Saturday in rearview mirror

A step down in divisions may be a welcome respite for the Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams after a forgettable Saturday afternoon for both squads.

In Green Bay, the Phoenix women challenged but could not overtake the bigger Creighton Saturday afternoon, losing the game 74-52. It was 11-0 before the Phoenix even got onto the scoreboard. The women would get the game to within single digits, only to see the Blue Jays stretch their lead again. Natalie McNeal was the lone Phoenix in double figures with 19 points. Jenna Guyer and Maddy Schrieber each had seven points, while Callie Genke chipped in six. They will play Ripon College on Thursday at 6 p.m.

In Santa Barbara, the Phoenix men's four-point lead at halftime quickly turned into another 20-point-plus loss, this time an 83-66 point loss to UC-Santa Barbara. The Gauchos made their run when Anthony Roy went out, outscoring the Phoenix 40-24 from that point on. Jeremiah Johnson did his part to keep the Phoenix in the game, leading the team with 18 points. Preston Ruedinger chipped in another 13 points. The Phoenix are home against Michigan Tech on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Packers jump over Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers were up two scores before the Seattle Seahawks could even get settled at home in a 30-13 win for the visitors Sunday night.

The Packers scored touchdowns on their first two possessions thanks to the legs of Josh Jacobs from one yard out and the hands of Romeo Doubs on a 13-yard play to make it 14-0 before the second quarter. The two teams traded field goals in the second quarter to give the Packers a 20-3 lead at the break and a 23-6 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Trading scores continued to be a theme in the fourth quarter thanks to Zach Charbonnet scoring from 24 yards out and Doubs recording his second touchdown in the back endzone to make it a 30-13 final.

The Packers are at home on Sunday when they host the New Orleans Saints.

Second-period surge sinks Gamblers vs. Phantoms

The Youngstown Phantoms found the back of the net four times in the second period to sprint the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday 5-2.

Mykhailo Danylov matched an earlier goal by the Phantoms with one of his own to tie the Gamblers in the first period. The flood gates opened after Egor Shilov scored halfway through the second period. The Phantoms tied the game one minute later and piled on after that, including two goals in the final minute of the frame. Gavin Moffatt had his second straight rough game against the Phantoms, allowing five goals on 29 shots faced.

The Gamblers will take a break for the holidays before they return to action on December 27th  and 28th against the Madison Capitols at the Resch Center.

Packers prepare for Sunday night lights vs. Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers look to shake off the rust and the loss when they take the field against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.

The Packers have not played since December 5th, when they lost to the Detroit Lions on a game-winning field goal in the final seconds. In the 34-31 defeat, Jordan Love finished the game with 11 completions for 206 yards and one touchdown, while Josh Jacobs racked up 66 yards to go along with his three touchdowns.

The Seahawks have won four straight games, including last week's 30-18 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Zach Charbonnet rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Geno Smith threw for one more score.

Game time is set for 7:20 p.m.

Gamblers blown out by Phantoms

The Green Bay Gamblers' netminder gave up at least two goals in each period as they lost to the Youngstown Phantoms 8-3 Friday night at the Resch Center.

Aidan Park's 14th goal of the season broke up a streak of three straight goals for the Phantoms to open the game. After the Phantoms chased Gavin Moffatt early in the second period after two more goals. Andrew O'Sullivan and Egor Shilov narrowed the advantage to 5-3 heading into the third. The Gamblers' Dylan Johnson allowed three goals in the third period, giving seven different players multi-point games.

The Phantoms and the Gamblers will play a rubber match at the Resch Center on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.

Park's hat trick sends Gamblers to victory

An Aidan Park hat trick was more than enough for the Green Bay Gamblers to take a 5-2 win over the Youngstown Phantoms Thursday night at the Resch Center.

The game was tied at one after the first period but two goals in the second and third periods gave the Gamblers the cushion they needed to secure the victory after a tough set in the American Cup last week against Des Moines. Park scored a goal a period while Reece Cordray tallied his in the second and Egor Shilov registered his first USHL goal in the third.

The two teams meet again at the Resch Center Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

Phoenix, Panthers exchange blowouts

Both rivalry games were blowouts as the road team picked up wins in the I-43 Battle between Green Bay and Milwaukee's basketball teams.

In Milwaukee, the Phoenix women shot 52 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc as they downed the Panthers 86-53. A back-and-forth affair in the opening half got out of hand in the third quarter when the Phoenix outscored the Panthers 31-11. Three players registered double figures, led by 20 points from Maddy Schreiber.

Things did not go as well at the Resch Center as the Phoenix men lost to the Panthers 88-67. After being down by eight at the break, the Phoenix got the deficit down to three before the Panthers went on a 26-6 run that ended any thoughts of a comeback. Anthony Roy marked his return to the lineup with 20 points while Marcus Hall added 18 points in the defeat.

Packers to honor Murphy at Saints game

The Green Bay Packers' outgoing president will be in the spotlight before the team's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

The organization announced on Wednesday that President and CEO Mark Murphy will be honored during the Packers/Saints game with a commemorative coin and pin, the cover of the game program, a special video tribute, and a ceremony during the December 23rd affair. Murphy has spent 17 years with the Packers after leaving his job as athletic director at Northwestern in 2008. In addition to the team's success on the field, Murphy engineered the development of the adjacent Titletown District, contracted more than $600 million in improvements to Lambeau Field, and brought the 2025 NFL Draft to Green Bay.

DCY Swim Team Shines at Prestigious Walter Schroeder Finalist Meet

The DCY Swim Team made waves this past weekend, securing an outstanding victory at the Walter Schroeder Finalist Meet, one of the premier winter swim meets for YMCA teams in Wisconsin and Illinois. The event, known for attracting top talent across all age groups, saw 16 teams and over 2,500 events contested, with DCY SWIM emerging triumphant as one of the smallest yet mightiest teams in attendance.

With a roster of just 32 swimmers, the DCY Swim Team competed in 153 individual events and eight relays, achieving a remarkable 63 top-six finishes that contributed to their team score. Over 60 personal bests were recorded across the three-day competition, showcasing the dedication and skill of these athletes.

While holding strong in second place through Friday and Saturday, it was the younger age groups who propelled DCY to the top on Sunday, delivering outstanding performances that helped secure the overall win. This achievement was further highlighted by Julia Michalski and Daylia Sund, who both surpassed the National Cut for the 100 Breaststroke with incredible times of 1:07, well under the 1:08.19 qualifying mark.

DCY’s 15-and-over relay teams also impressed, swimming within striking distance of national qualifying times, underscoring the depth and potential of this dynamic group.

“This victory is a testament to the hard work and focus of our swimmers,” said Mike McHugh, Director of Competitive Swim. “To achieve this level of success as a smaller team is truly extraordinary. We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes.”

Up Next: Jingle Bell Meet at DCY

The DCY Swim Team will host the Jingle Bell Meet this Saturday, welcoming seven teams from across the region. This event promises to deliver thrilling races and the opportunity to see some of the fastest swimmers in the state. Community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on these talented athletes.

Benching triggers apology from Phoenix's Roy

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team's loss to Cleveland State not only dropped them to 2-8 on the season, but prompted several questions about the state of the team on Saturday.

At the Resch Center, Cleveland State's bench outscored the Phoenix men 45-20 as they won the game 83-61. With head coach Doug Gottlieb choosing not to play his star player Anthony Roy due to philosophical differences, Foster Wonders and Mac Wrecke each tallied 10 points while Jeremiah Johnson chipped in nine points in the loss. After the game, Gottlieb would not discuss the specifics as to why his star player was benched, but compared the situation to building a house.

“It’s like if you build a house — that’s what we’re doing, we’re building a house. And if you go like, ‘Wow, you know, the foundation, well we can save money here, we save money there. You get one chance at a dream home. It’s my dream home. I’m building it. I’m going to spend the extra time and extra expense and do it the right way," Gottlieb said.

Roy did go into specifics on social media, saying his benching stemmed from him missing a morning shootaround. He was contrite in his post saying that "sitting out against Cleveland State was a very humbling experience. From here on out, I’m committed to holding myself to the highest standard. Not just in how I play, but in how I carry myself as a teammate and as a representative of this program. To my teammates and coaches, thank you for holding me accountable. I’ll do everything I can to lead by example from this point forward.”

Gottlieb accepted the apology, signaling its time to move forward and focus on their game against Milwaukee on Wednesday.

No local teams moved via performance factor

It will be the status quo for the area's fall sports after the WIAA announced its divisional movement due to its performance factor process.

School programs reaching the six-point threshold during the past three seasons are placed in the division containing the next largest set of enrollments from where the schools’ enrollments would place them for each respective sport other than track & field, swimming &?diving–which do not have a team component to advancement in the Tournament Series–and sports with only one division. Schools are restricted to moving up a maximum of one division from the previous year’s placement.

No school in Door and Kewaunee counties has received enough points over the last three years to warrant a move, though Luxemburg Casco's runner-up finish in the state volleyball tournament puts them a step ahead toward being bumped up for 2026 if they experience similar success next year. Currently, Luxemburg-Casco wrestling is the only team to be affected by the initiative.

This initiative affords schools the opportunity to request to move to a division with lower enrollments for all sports except football, swimming &?diving, and track &?field in 2025-26. The Classification Committee reviewed four such requests for girls volleyball (Omro, Oshkosh North, Salam and Sheboygan South), one for boys soccer (Sheboygan South), one for both boys and girls cross country (Sheboygan South boys and girls), and two for girls tennis (Roncalli/Two Rivers and Sheboygan South). The committee approved four requests in girls volleyball (Omro, Oshkosh North, Salam and Sheboygan South), one in boys soccer (Sheboygan South), one in boys cross country (Sheboygan South) and one in girls tennis (Sheboygan South).

The school sports programs that have accumulated at least six points to engage a promotion to a division with higher enrollments–if their 2025-26 tournament placement enrollment doesn’t initially move them up a division–are listed below. Please note that programs that meet the performance points threshold to be promoted and are initially assigned to a lower enrollment division–based on their 2025-26 tournament assignment enrollments–will be promoted back into the division they competed in during the most recent season’s Tournament Series.

The performance factor process affords schools the opportunity to appeal their promotion to the division with the next largest enrollments based on performance points. Of the 48 programs listed above that compiled points to engage in a promotion, 11 appeals were submitted. The Classification Committee evaluated one appeal in girls volleyball (Wonewoc-Center), two in boys soccer (Lake Country Lutheran and Waukesha West), three in boys cross country (Cedar Grove-Belgium, Solon Springs and West Salem), two in girls cross country (Lancaster and Xavier), one in girls tennis (Aquinas) and two in football (Badger and Wrightstown). The two approved appeals were Wonewoc-Center in girls volleyball and Xavier in girls cross country.

The original ad hoc committee consisting of 11 superintendents/district administrators, six athletic directors, one principal and one principal/athletic director proposed the performance factor process, which was approved by a 265-115 membership vote at the 2023 Annual Meeting that is being implemented in 2024-25. The current committee consists of nine athletic directors, two principals ad seven superintendents

The performance factor initiative promotes school programs that reach a threshold of tournament success based on a performance point system allocated over a three-year period.

The WIAA will determine the Tournament Series assignments to be released for all 2025 fall sports except football and girls volleyball in early January 2025. For more on the performance factor process, visit the Classification Committee homepage on the WIAA website.

Rough day for Phoenix fans after two losses Saturday

Neither the men nor the women could fill the W column for the Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday.

In Fort Wayne, Ind., the Phoenix women could never dig out of a five-point halftime deficit before losing to the Mastodons 67-66. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz registered a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Maddy Schreiber contributed 14 points and Cassie Schiltz added nine points in the loss. A 5-0 run late after the Phoenix took a slim point lead with over six minutes remaining proved fatal as the women will now wait for its matchup at Milwaukee on Wednesday.

They will return to the Resch Center on Wednesday to face Milwaukee.

Lions get last laugh against Packers

A see-saw battle in the second half went the way of the Detroit Lions as they kicked a game-winning field goal to beat the Green Bay Packers 34-31 at Ford Field.

A Josh Jacobs touchdown in the final six minutes of the second half was all the Packers could muster in the first half as the Lions jumped out to a 10-0 lead and scored again before the second quarter was out to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room.

The Packers flipped the script early in the third quarter when a long 59-yard pass play to Christian Watson set up a Jordan Love touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft. A rare Jared Goff set up the next Jacobs rushing touchdown as the Packers took their first lead against the Lions, not just for the game but also the season. The Packers and Lions would trade scores the rest of the game, with Goff finding Tim Patrick twice in the end zone and Jacobs rushing for his third touchdown. A Brandon McManus touchdown tied the game with over 3:30 left, but Jake Bates' 35-yard field goal gave the Lions the win, a playoff spot, and a tighter grip on the NFC North title.

Love finished the game with 11 completions for 206 yards and one touchdown while Jacobs racked up 66 yards to go along with his three touchdowns.

The Packers will have an extended break before they play in Seattle for Sunday Night Football on December 15th.

Gamblers fall hard to Bucs in American Cup

A Cole Longacre goal late in the first period to be the lone highlight for the Green Bay Gamblers as they fell in their first American Cup against the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-1.

A defenseman's tally with five minutes to go in the first period tied the game at one before the Buccaneers took control from there. The Buccaneers scored four times thanks to a pair of goals and an assist from Nathan Delladonna. Gavin Moffatt took the loss in net for the Gamblers, stopping 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

The two teams go at it again in Rochester, New York at 7 p.m.

Gamblers get early start to weekend set in Des Moines

The traditional Friday-Saturday set is being thrown out this weekend as the Green Bay Gamblers face the Des Moines Buccaneers on Thursday and Friday to open the month.

The vibes of a four-game winning streak disappeared last weekend when the Gamblers were swept by the Tri-City Storm at the Resch Center. In the final game of the series, Andrew O'Sullivan tied the game up at 1-1 halfway through the first period, but it was 3-1 by the time Will Zellers put the puck in the net, only to have the Storm score two more times to end the game. Gavin Moffatt stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced in the loss.

The Buccaneers find themselves in seventh place in the eight-team Western Conference, going 0-9-1-0 over their last 10 games.

The puck drop both nights is 7:00 p.m.

Green Bay basketball teams split against IU Indy

The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams both led at halftime, but only the women were able to hold onto that lead Wednesday night against IU Indianapolis.

At the Kress Center in Green Bay, the Phoenix women outscored the Jaguars 22-3 in the first quarter on their way to a 78-56 win. The Phoenix hit nine three-pointers in the contest, with Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schiltz knocking down four en route to a 12-point game. She was one of five players to reach double-figures, led by Maddy Schreiber's 16 points. The Phoenix returns to life on the road  Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tip with Purdue Fort Wayne.

Inside the Jungle of Indianapolis, the Phoenix men led by six points at the break, but a five-plus minute scoring drought paired with a 14-0 run by the Jaguars led to an 84-75 defeat. Both teams were streaky in the first half, with the Phoenix answering a 10-0 Jaguars run with one of their own. Anthony Roy once again led the way with 34 points, with Foster Wonders adding 14 and Marcus Hall chipping in another 11. They will return home on Saturday to host Cleveland State at the Resch Center for a 2 p.m. tip.

Packers look to even the score against Lions

The Green Bay Packers hope health is on their side Thursday night when they face the league-leading and division-rival Detroit Lions.

The Packers got another fast start against the Miami Dolphins en route to a 30-17 victory on Thanksgiving night. Jordan Love finished his night going 21-28 for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs was kept in check with 43 yards rushing with a touchdown.

The Packers have not lost since they fell to the Lions at rainy Lambeau Field on November 3rd. A pick-six by Kerby Joseph complemented a touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a run-scoring run from Jahmyr Gibbs in a 24-14 victory. Though they've had some close games along the way, the Lions haven't lost since a home defeat to Tampa Bay in September.

Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m.

Packers' McKinney leading Pro Bowl Games safety voting

The Green Bay Packers have 14 players in the top 10 of their respective position in the early going of the 2025 Pro Bowl Games vote.

Thanks to his seven interceptions, safety Xavier McKinney is the NFL's leading Pro Bowl vote-getter at the free safety position, just ahead of NFC North rival Kerby Joseph of Detroit.

The Green Bay Packers released the full list of the 14 players that could find themselves in Orlando in February:

  • Free safety Xavier McKinney (first in the league/first in the conference)
  • Running back Josh Jacobs (fourth/second)
  • Cornerback Jaire Alexander (fifth/second)
  • Inside linebacker Quay Walker (sixth/third)
  • Special-teamer Zayne Anderson (sixth/third)
  • Center Josh Myers (seventh/third)
  • Return specialist Keisean Nixon (seventh/fifth)
  • Long snapper Matt Orzech (seventh/third)
  • Guard Elgton Jenkins (eighth/fifth)
  • Receiver Jayden Reed (eighth/fifth)
  • Defensive end Rashan Gary (ninth/third)
  • Punter Daniel Whelan (ninth/third)
  • Offensive tackle Zach Tom (10th/seventh)
  • Tight end Tucker Kraft (10th/sixth)

You can cast your vote for your favorite Packer here through December 23rd.

Packers getting healthier ahead of Detroit

The Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions are trending in opposite directions when it comes to their injury reports, and that's good news for fans of the Green and Gold.

The Packers listed 13 players on their injury report, but only Elgton Jenkins (Knee), Edgerrin Cooper (Hamstring), and Corey Ballentine (Knee) did not practice. That means that Jaire Alexander (Knee) and Romeo Doubs (Concussion) were able to practice for the first time in a week, albeit on a limited basis.

The Lions have less people listed on their injury report at six, but four of them (T Taylor Decker, DL Levi Onwuzurike, DL Josh Paschal, and DL DJ Reader) could not go on Monday.

Packers sign two to practice squad

Saturday ended up being a busy day for the Green Bay Packers after playing on Thanksgiving night.

The Packers signed LB Michael Barrett and G Marquis Hayes to the practice squad. They also released WR Malik Knowles from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

A contributor on last year's national championship team at Michigan, Barrett spent time on the practice squads of the Seahawks and Cleveland Browns this season before being signed by the Packers. Hayes, a second-year player out of Oklahoma, bounced between Carolina and Arizona this season before landing in Green Bay on Saturday.

Blizzard add more four more to roster

The Green Bay Blizzard may have lost one player to the UFL this spring, but it has welcome four new players over the past week.

DL Rafiq Abdul-Wahid, DB Donyai Dixon, DL Miqueal Pillow-Smiley, and QB TJ Davis all signed with the Blizzard since November 22nd. Abdul-Wahid led the entire IFL in sacks last year as a part of the Blizzard's league-leading defense. You can learn more about the players below.
