Packers shut down Saints

The Green Bay Packers led wire-to-wire, recording the NFL's first shutout of the season, beating the New Orleans Saints.

The Packers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, with Dontayvion Wicks catching a quick pass from Jordan Love while Josh Jacobs and Chris Brooks broke the line for the other two. Meanwhile, two punts and a fumble made the first half forgettable for the Saints, which gained only 81 yards.

The Packers were not as prolific in the second half, but just as effective as Brandon McManus banged in two field goals to put the Packers up 27-0 midway through the fourth quarter. With Malik Willis behind center, the Packers lit the fireworks one more time as Emmanuel Wilson found the endzone from one yard out to give them their final margin of victory.

Love made 16 completions for 186 yards and a score, while the running game took the load of the work for the Packers, accumulating 188 yards on nearly 40 carries. Jacobs led the way with 69 yards on 13 carries to go with his 38 receiving yards on four receptions. The Packers' defense recorded two turnovers and three sacks while allowing less than 200 yards of offense.

The Packers will face a more formidable task on a short week when they play in Minnesota to face the Vikings at 3:25 p.m. Sunday.
