Mets topple Ports

A late surge helped Maplewood cruise past West Jacksonport 13-5.

The two teams played close in the early stages, with the Mets clinging to a 4-2 lead heading into the game's back half. A five-run sixth inning changed that for the Mets with homers from Adam Gutschow and RBI doubles from Tory Jandrin and Nolan Wagner, changing the game's tenor. The Mets added two more runs in the seventh and answered a three-run Ports eighth inning with two more runs in the ninth inning.

For the Mets, Gutschow and Wagner each had at least two RBI, and Kordell Draves had two hits. Will Jandrin earned the win on the mound by allowing two runs (2 ER) on seven hits while striking out five. The Ports outhit the Mets 13-7 and benefited from three Mets errors. CJ Goetz had three hits and an RBI while Alec Schartner and Drew Tanck each had two hits. Goetz took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (4 ER) on one hit, spoiling a six strikeout inning.
