Coming off a narrow loss, Green Bay earned a close road win this time, topping Oakland 73-68 to improve to 16-13 overall and 11-7 in the Horizon League.
The last time the two teams matched up, Marcus Allen dropped 30-plus points, but Oakland came prepared Friday night, holding him to six. However, the Golden Grizzlies didn’t account for the trio of Justin Allen, C.J. O’Hara and Caden Wilkins.
Wilkins went 4-for-5 from 3-point range, scoring 12, while O’Hara and Allen combined for 37. The Phoenix shot 45.5% from the field and 86.7% from the free-throw line.
Oakland struggled from the field, shooting just 37% overall and 5-for-20 from 3-point range. The Golden Grizzlies did go a perfect 17-for-17 at the line to help keep the game close, but it wasn’t enough.
Isaac Garrett recorded a double-double for Oakland with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Continuing its road trip, UW-Green Bay will stop at Detroit Mercy on Sunday for a noon tipoff.
