Years after introducing a t-shirt in its bookstore boasting an undefeated record in football since its founding, UW-Green Bay will finally put that mark to the test thanks to a unique collaboration with the Green Bay Blizzard.
The Green Bay Athletics Department and the Green Bay Blizzard announced earlier this week that the indoor football team will take on the moniker "Frozen Phoenix" for its game against the Iowa Barnstormers on April 18th. At the behest of Vince Lombardi, UW-Green Bay did not add football to its athletics portfolio when it became a university in 1965, making this the closest the school has ever been to the gridiron outside of its higher education partner status with the Green Bay Packers.
"To be able to bring the Blizzard together with UWGB, we are really excited to do that," said Green Bay Blizzard Owner Larry Treankler. "We've been very blessed to be a part of this family."
"UWGB invites you to 'Freeze With Us' for the Phoenix's first-ever football game on April 18th," said Green Bay Phoenix Director of Athletics Josh Moon. "The Blizzard have been the standard bearer of our community of amazing family fun and entertainment, and we want to emulate a lot of the things they've done to get 5,000 fans in the stands consistently. We are so thankful for their partnership."
