UWGB girls nearly upset #20 Washington

Coach Karius' program has gotten off to a strong start in her first season, and the Phoenix almost took off the 20th-ranked program in the nation, but a slow fourth quarter allowed the Huskers to claw their way back to a 79-74 victory.

It was a 65-56 lead heading into the last frame when Washington had their biggest quarter, while holding the explosive Phoenix offense, outscoring UWGB 23-9.

Only their fourth loss of the season, Green Bay still put up a strong fight to one of the nation's best teams as four finished in double figures. Jenna Guyer totaled 19 points and added eight rebounds. Maddy Skorupski had 14 points with eight boards, and Meghan Schultz and Carley Duffney contributed 13 points a piece. Sayvia Sellers led Washington, and all scorers, with 30 points.

The Phoenix continue to play with immense trust in their teammates and it has propelled them to a 8-4 start, 3-0 in Horizon League play. A week will pass before their next opponent, Miami (OH), another non-conference road matchup. Tipoff is set for noon Dec. 20.
