If Green Bay secures a United Soccer League (USL) franchise in the coming years, UW- Green Bay could provide the organization a life raft until a new stadium is built.
WLUK-TV in Green Bay reported earlier this month that Aldo Santaga Stadium could be expanded to its current capacity of 700 to more than 2,000 to house a USL team until the new stadium is built.
There a lot of moving parts still to figure it out with Mayor Eric Genrich admitting that exclusive window will likely need to be extended. Genrich cited the need to find a viable ownership group and stadium site before they can continue the process. The former WPS headquarters site and the Legends District near Lambeau Field have been two areas where fans would like to see a new stadium according to a Green Bay Press Gazette poll.
