It took until the sixth inning for either team to scratch across a run in Washington Island's 3-1 win over Maplewood on Sunday.
The Islanders struck first when Ben Johnson and Luke Geiger hit back-to-back doubles to give themselves a 2-0 lead. They added insurance in the seventh inning when Ryan Jorgenson singled in Matt Foss to make it 3-0. The Mets finally scored in the ninth inning when Jaden Diller singled to make 3-1 with the tying run on first base. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger recovered, coaxing a pop out to end the game.
For the Islanders, Johnson and Geiger each had two hits and one RBI while four others tallied at least one hit. Jorgenson earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on five hits across six innings while striking out one.
For the Mets, Diller went 3-5 with an RBI while Kody Kissinger tallied two hits. Jeremiah Jahnke took the loss, allowing three runs (3 ER) on six hits while striking out five across five innings.
