Islanders clobber Cubs

The Washington Island Islanders scored early and often in their 15-4 win over Institute on Sunday.

 

The score was 10-0 before the Cubs scratched across a run in the fourth. The teams traded two run rallies before the Islanders responded to a single Cubs run in the seventh inning with three runs in the eighth to end the game early.

 

The Islanders banged out 16 hits in the win with Alex Johnson, Ben Geiger, Ben Johnson, and Ray McDonald all hitting doubles. Caleb Cornell, Ben Johnson, McDonald Ben Geiger, Matt Foss, and Alex Johnson all had at least two hits with the Johnson combining to drive in five runs. Ryan Jorgenson took the win from the mound, allowing three runs (0 ER) on six hits across five innings.

 

For the Cubs, Arthur Hocevar led the way with two hits while Caleb Hoffman and Quinn Schram each driving in a run. Sam Zirbel took the loss, allowing eight runs (8 ER) on nine hits across three innings of work.
