Mets edge Ports on 105.1 The Goat

The Maplewood Mets stayed undefeated in the Door County League with a 5-4 cliffhanger road win over the West Jacksonport Ports on Sunday before a big crowd and a pending rainstorm.

Maplewood and West Jacksonport each scored one run in the first inning on lead-off doubles.  Cody Kissinger scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Gutschow for the Mets, and the Cubs responded with an RBI single by Woody Schartner scoring Alec Schartner.

The Maplewood took a 2-1 lead in the second when Nolan Wagner singled and eventually scored.

The Mets increased the lead to 4-1 in the third inning when Kordell Draves crushed a two-run home run off Ports pitcher Luke Steebs.

The score stayed that way until the fifth when the Ports' added one run and tallied two more in the sixth with the tying run scoring on a wild pitch.

Tory Jandrin came in to pitch in the seventh inning and scored the lead run in the eighth inning after singling and scoring on an error.

The Ports threatened in the ninth inning as Drew Tanck doubled with one out and advanced to third base on a deep fly ball by Woody Schartner who narrowly missed a walk-off two-run home run.  Carter Bieri then lined out to second base to end the game before the rains came.

Jandrin went three innings in relief of starter Jeremiah Jahnke and picked up the win while striking out three for the Mets who improved to 3-0 in the DCL.

Riley Cordier took the tough-luck loss for the Ports who fell to 1-2 in league play.
