After falling Friday night, the Green Bay Gamblers flipped the script on Saturday with a huge comeback win at the Resch Center stamped by an explosive third period.
Trailing 3-0 entering the third, Green Bay exploded for six unanswered goals to take down the Waterloo Black Hawks 6-4.
Waterloo controlled the early tempo, scoring twice in the first and adding another late in the second to carry a 3-0 lead into the final frame. But Green Bay came out flying in the third.
Axel Samuelsson put the Gamblers on the board just 29 seconds in, sparking a surge that saw goals from Jaxon Sokol, Owen Phillips, and Drew Hafele in an 11-minute span to give Green Bay a 4-3 lead.
After Waterloo briefly cut the deficit to one, Caden Gulley sealed the win with back-to-back goals, including an empty-netter in the final seconds, to cap the six-goal period.
Goaltender Henriquez earned the win with 20 saves on 24 shots, while the Gamblers finished with a 35-24 edge in shots on goal.
Green Bay, now 2-1-0-1 on the season, completes the weekend split with Waterloo and will look to build on Saturday’s offensive outburst when they host the U.S. National Team Development Program on Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m.
