Gamblers edge Waterloo in Halloween matchup at the Resch

The Green Bay Gamblers treated their fans to a thrilling Halloween night win Friday, taking down the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 at the Resch Center behind a fast start and strong goaltending from Mat?j Slavick.

 

Green Bay jumped ahead early with two first-period goals Jack Wooten opened the scoring at 7:44 off assists from Ryan O’Sullivan and Brayden Harris, before Ethan Drabicki added his second goal of the season just minutes later, assisted by Gavin Gulley and O’Sullivan.

 

Waterloo battled back in the second period, evening the score 2-2 with goals from Nate Rieber and Jack Mason, the latter on the power play. But the Gamblers regained control in the third when Brady Katz, who leads the team in scoring, buried his eighth goal of the year at 3:54, assisted by Gulley and Harris.

 

Despite going 0-for-4 on the power play, the Gamblers outshot Waterloo an astonishing 40-19 and dictated play for much of the night. Slavick turned away 17 of 19 shots to earn the win, while Loïc Lachat made 37 saves for the Black Hawks.

 

Green Bay improves to 3-1 over its last four games and will host Waterloo again Saturday night at the Resch Center to close out the weekend series.
