The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team used a 20-5 run in the third quarter to improve to 2-0 on the young season with a 55-46 win over Loyola Chicago on Thursday.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter and the Ramblers outscored the Phoenix 19-17 in the second quarter to make it a 25-24 game at the break. A 12-0 run to start the third quarter allowed the Phoenix to cruise the rest of the game with some late turnovers causing the game to get closer near the end of the contest. Both teams had nearly 20 turnovers with the Phoenix posting an 11-8 edge in steals.
Maddy Skorupski led the Phoenix with 15 points while Ellie Buzzelle added 12 points in the win.
The Phoenix will be back at the Kress Events Center next week for two games, including on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against North Dakota.
