The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team kept the ACC power close but was unable to close the gap in a 79-67 loss to North Carolina State on Thursday in Cancun.
After being outscored 22-14 in the first quarter, the Phoenix whittled down the advantage over the following two quarters, eventually getting the game to within one point with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. The size and speed of the Wolfpack showed up again late as they outscored the Phoenix 21-10 from that point on to hand the Phoenix the loss in Canun Challenge.
Gracie Grzesk finished the game with a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers in the game, with Jenna Guyer adding 15 points off the bench, and Carley Duffney registering 10 points in the loss. Zoe Brooks was one of three Wolfpack players to reach double figures with 21 points.
The Phoenix women are back in action Friday night when they face Richmond at 8 p.m. The Spiders, which are receiving votes in the AP Poll, will face eighth-ranked TCU before facing the Phoenix.
