Phoenix women see lead evaporate, fall short against Badgers

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team saw their fortunes flip nearly twice in a 76-72 loss to Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Phoenix started out hot, outscoring the Badgers 25-15 in the opening frame. The Badgers responded with their own hot shooting and tough defense in the second quarter, outscoring their guests 21-12 to trim their deficit to one point at the break. Both teams would go on their runs in the third and fourth quarters with the Badgers leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter before the Phoenix narrowed but never closing the deficit on the road.

Meghan Schultz once again led the Phoenix with 22 points while Kamy Peppler added a season-high 15 points Carley Duffney chipped in with 11 points. The Badgers countered with Destiny Howell's 23 points. Breauna Ware and Kyrah Daniels scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The road does not get any easier for the Phoenix, though at least they will have the hosting duties on Saturday when they welcome Kansas State to the Kress Events Center for a 1 p.m. matinee before heading out of the country for the holidays with a Cancun Challenge matchup against North Carolina State.
