The road will not get any easier this weekend for the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team in the Twin Cities after dropping its matchup to St. Thomas 80–61 in St. Paul on Thursday night.
The Tommies took control of the game from the opening whistle, outscoring the Phoenix 20–7 in the first eight minutes. Green Bay got as close as 11 points, but hot shooting from St. Thomas kept the Tommies in comfortable control for most of the evening. With the pressure eased late, the Phoenix were able to chip away at the deficit after the break, outscoring the Tommies 35–30 in the second half.
Mac Wrecke led the Phoenix with 10 points, while Justin Allen added nine. Marcus Hall and Josh Hines each chipped in seven. St. Thomas had four players reach double figures, including a game-high 20 points from Nolan Minessale.
The Phoenix will now hop the river and play Minnesota at Williams Arena in Minneapolis for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
